The day to say 'Goodbye'
To say Adelaide was dreading this day would be the understatement of the century. She was beyond dreading. Even though it might have started off as a joke, Adelaide had caught herself wishing she would actually fall sick if it meant she wouldn't have to leave in the morning.
Currently, the clock on her bedside table read 3:30 AM. The party had ended at 1AM, which was still very early for them but everyone wanted Adelaide to 'get enough rest before tomorrow', so they had left sooner than usual.
Even though Adelaide was way beyond tired from having been awake for over 24 hours now, she couldn't catch a glimpse of sleep as her mind reeled over what was to come next. In a few hours, she would have to walk out of these doors and leave her home, her friends, her love for two months.
Adelaide's eyes widen in shock at what she had just thought...did she just call Joseph her 'love'? Yes, yes she had. And she meant it. Didn't she? Was she rushing into yet another relationship that was bound to fail like her las ones? Or was this as right as it could ever get?
Adelaide sits up in worry and after contemplating it for a few moments, she dials the number of the one person she couldn't get out of her head.
"Calling...Angel Eyes💖"
After a few rings, the call connected.
"Del? Is everything okay?" Joseph's gruffy voice echoed through the call, causing Adelaide to frown.
"Sorry, did I wake you?" she apologizes, mentally facepalming herself for forgetting it was 3 in the morning.
"Um no, I was...I was up," Joseph replies as Adelaide hears something heavy fall, "shit."
"Jo? Is everything okay there? What happened?" she questions worriedly.
"Huh? Yeah, all good. My bottle spilled all over the counter-top," he responds as Adelaide frowns again.
"What bottle? Are you drinking at 3 in the morning?"
"...I am," he admits in an almost ashamed voice, "just a little beer. I couldn't sleep."
"Oh," Adelaide mumbles as silence falls on both their sides of the call.
"Del?" Joseph whispers in an unsure tone, breaking the silence after a few minutes of silence.
"Hmm?"
"Can I drop you off at the airport tomorrow?" he asks hesitantly.
"Oh...I uh, Rachie and I were going to go together," Adelaide replies sheepishly.
"Oh, alright. Nevermind then."
"Wait no, I'll uh, I'll ask Rachie to get there on her own. You can drop me off," Adelaide corrects herself, wanting to see him one last time before she set out. She could kiss him goodbye then.
"Okay, your flight's at 10, right?" Joseph then asks.
"Yeah, so we can leave at 8 and get breakfast first?" Adelaide suggests.
"I'd like that," Joseph agrees as a smile creeps up on Adelaide's face, "anyway, you should really get some rest. I'll see you at 8 tomorrow, Del."
"Yeah, see you tomorrow then," Adelaide replies sadly before hanging up the call. She lies back down on her bed with a sigh, her heart feeling heavier with every passing second. She wanted to tell him she loved him, she wanted to scream and yell it out to the world that she was in love with her 'part-time lover' and her best friend, her confidant- her Joseph.
But Joseph had gone through so much to tell her about his feelings and she wanted to make it just as special for him because he only deserved the best confession. Adelaide decided to use the two months to come up with the perfect plan so when she returned, she could finally confess her love for him in the most perfect way possible.
But then her heart began to hurt again, thinking of having to be away from her love for two long months, miles away with very different time zones. She only hoped and prayed they could get through this properly and finally be together for good once she got back. As if Ranma could feel Adelaide's emotions, he crawled onto bed and cuddled under the sheets, laying on top of Adelaide's chest as she wrapped her arms around him, closing her eyes to finally get some rest.
On the other end, Joseph was onto his fourth beer bottle as he continued to drown his emotions at the bottom of the bottles. All his feelings were a mess and his insecurities were getting to the best of him. He trusted Adelaide, but he couldn't help feel that she might fall back in love with Toby. There was no guarantee he wouldn't make a move on her again if they began to spend everyday together again. Besides, Adelaide hadn't said 'I love you' back to him yet. What if she had never even fallen out of love with toby? What if he was just a distraction?
Joseph shakes his head vigorously, removing such thoughts from his mind. Adelaide would never to that to him...or anyone. She was moralistic and caring, someone who respected others and loved them with all of her. She would never hurt him or use him like that. She wouldn't. She didn't. Did she?
With a sigh, Joseph swigs at his beer bottle again, continuing to drink the night dry.

7:45 AM
Adelaide had only gotten 3 hours of sleep before she jumped awake upon dreaming a nightmare that she had forgotten to pack for her flight. It was all a nightmare...except for the fact that the nightmare was real. She was so in-deep in her feeling that she had indeed forgotten to pack most of her things. All that he had packed was Ranma's food.
"Hey good morning," she hears a voice chime into the house and she already knew who it was, "your door was ope- what are you doing?" Joseph quizzes.
Adelaide ignored him as she continued to frantically throw all her clothes into the two big suitcases she had laid down on her couch.
"Del, Del calm down," Joseph says, carefully approaching her and holding onto her arm to stop her from pacing around, "what happened?"
Adelaide's eyes finally meet his as she looks up to answer, "I forgot to pack."
Joseph tried to hold back his laughter but failed to do so as a serious of chuckles escaped his mouth, causing Adelaide to shove him away and glare at him.
"If you're not going to help me now, at least don't laugh at me," she grumbles as Joseph holds his hands up in mock-surrender.
"Hey, you're the one who's not stopped talking about this in two weeks and then you just...forgot to pack for it?" he teases as Adelaide glares at him, causing him to drop his smile and clear his throat before saying, "right, help you with packing. Where do you want me to start?"
"Help me fold these and hand them to me while I close the other bag," she instructs while motioning towards a pile of clothes that lay on the floor. Joseph nods before folding up the sleeves of his shirt and beginning to neatly fold the clothes, handing them one-by-one to Adelaide and she organized them inside the suitcase.

8:30 AM
"We can just stop by a roadside cart and get some takeaway," Joseph assures as Adelaide continues to frown on the drive to the airport.
"I'm so sorry I ruined our breakfast plans by procrastinating on packing," Adelaide apologized for the hundredth time since they had left her place and realized they wouldn't have enough time to sit for breakfast.
"Del, I told you it's alright," Joseph assures, "let's just say you owe me a brunch after you get back."
"Yes, for sure. Anything to make up for this," Adelaide agrees enthusiastically as Joseph chuckles, stopping the car near a cart that was serving donuts, waffles, pancakes and warm coffee, "now come on, let's get you some food before you get on that 7 hour flight."
The two get out of the car and get themselves some donuts and takeaway coffee before getting back into the car and driving towards the airport with heavy hearts.

9:15 AM
Joseph pulls into the aisleway of the airport terminal that Torrance, Alyssa and Rachel were supposedly waiting for her at. Adelaide exhales loudly as Joseph gets out first, holding the passenger door open for her.
"So, this is it," Joseph mumbles as they stand face to face with each other, Adelaide's back turned towards the terminal.
"This is it," Adelaide repeats in a sad tone.
"Hey, don't sulk right before you leave," Joseph says while holding onto her hands in reassurance, "you're going to have so much fun with all your friends there. Even Rachie's going to be there at all times. I swear, you wont even miss us because of how much fun you'll have there," Joseph jokes in an attempt to lighten up the mood.
Adelaide offers him a tight-lipped smile before saying, "it would be impossible not to miss you, Jo."
"I'll miss you too, Del," he mumbles, "but we'll talk everyday. And it's just two months. We'll be fine," he repeats, trying to assure himself more than her as Adelaide hums along.
"Oh and, before I forget," he says before letting go of her hand and reaching into his back pocket to bring out a small velvet box and holding it out for Adelaide to take, "we were rushing so much yesterday that I forgot to give you your birthday gift."
"You didn't have to, Jo. The date, alone, was the best gift ever," she smiles at him as he places the box in her hands.
"Open it still," he urges her as she smiles down at the box before opening it to reveal a necklace.
"It's a..." Adelaide trails off, not being able to find the right words for it.
"It's a snowflake necklace," Joseph finishes for her with a small smile as Adelaide looks up to meet his eyes.
"It's beautiful," Adelaide says as tears threaten to spill out of her eyes, "thank you."
"You're most welcome. Here, let me put it on you," he says as she turns around as he locks the necklace around her neck before turning her back around to see how it looked.
"Looks like it was made just for you," he compliments as she smiles at him, looking deep into his eyes.
In that moment, she didn't seem to care about the special confession she was planning. All she wanted to do was kiss him and confess to him how head over heels in love she was with him. She couldn't seem to wait any longer. Not after he couldn't stop being perfect for even a mere second.
Just as Adelaide opens her mouth to say something, someone from behind calls out her name, causing both their attention's to snap at the source of the sound.
"There you guys are," Torrance exclaims in a frustrated tone, "Addy, we've been waiting for an hour!"
"Um yeah, sorry," Adelaide grumbles as she feels a physical pain settle into the bottom of her stomach and an ache to echo through her heart.
"Hey man, sorry we can't sit an chat," Torrance waves at Joseph, getting a light-lipped nod in return as Joseph handed Torrance he bags. Torrance takes both the cases in his two hands before walking back into the terminal as Rachel nudges Adelaide.
"Come on, Lyss is waiting for us in the line. We need to go now or we'll miss the flight," she informs. The idea didn't seem bad to Adelaide. In fact, it sounded perfect. But to add to her misery, Joseph walked over to them and placed a small kiss on her cheek before smiling down at her, "go on. You wouldn't want to miss you flight. I'll see you in two moths, Del."
Adelaide stood numb as Rachel too said goodbye to Joseph before dragging her to the terminal, all the while her eyes remaining trained on Joseph's figure as he stood there with a sad smile, waving at her. Every second his figure got farther, her heart ached more and more and when finally he could no longer be seen, Adelaide felt as if the world was crumbling around her. She felt so in pain yet so numb, all at once.
From then to boarding the flight with Ranma on her lap- it was all a trance for Adelaide as she looked out of the window, seeing LA retreat from underneath her, leaving behind the love of her life without even begin to tell him how much she loved him.

Have a safe flight, Del. Call me when you land and have loads and loads of fun! I promise I'll be right where we said goodbye when you come back, waiting for you. Missing you already💖
I miss you too. So much. And
I love you

Goodbye for now, Jo. Can't wait to come back home, already. Take care!💖
Author's Note
God, this is so sad I hate myself for even writing this!
Also, I know to some it might seem like they were being too extra about the goodbye since it's just two months but in my head, this is just the beginning of a love that has always been there for them. And just when things were finally falling into place, they had to separate so abruptly again. So, I think this is how one would react/hurt in such a situation where you finally get the love you've yearned for all these years but you just have to leave it behind right then, even if not permanent. I hope that makes sense heheh.
