SHES SO PRETTY
Mason sat on his bed, scrolling aimlessly through TikTok.
It was late, and the quiet of his apartment felt heavier than usual.
He rubbed the back of his neck, frustrated with himself. Every time he thought about texting Elena, something held him back. It wasn't like he didn't want to—he missed her, a lot—but he didn't know how to start the conversation after weeks of being distant.
His thumb paused when Elena's TikTok popped up on his For You page. The video started with her standing in front of her hotel room mirror, her hair falling perfectly as she gave the camera a shy smile. The audio she used was some trending sound, but Mason barely registered it.
She looked incredible. Effortless. Confident. Beautiful.
The video transitioned to clips of her day, walking around Belgium with Dominic and Justice. There was a quick shot of her laughing, her eyes crinkling in a way that always made his chest tighten.
Mason leaned back against the headboard, running a hand through his hair as the video looped. He watched it again, and then again, until McKenna's voice broke his trance.
"Are you seriously watching that for the fifth time?"
Mason flinched, hastily locking his phone. McKenna stood in the doorway of his living room, arms crossed and an amused look on her face.
"Are you seriously sitting here, watching TikToks?" she teased, closing the door behind her.
Mason locked his phone quickly, sitting up straighter. "I was just—"
"Uh-huh," McKenna interrupted, smirking as she flopped onto the chair by the window. "Let me guess. Elena?"
Mason's face heated, and he looked away. "What are you doing here?"
"I was bored," she said casually, unscrewing the cap of her water bottle. "And I knew you'd be in here sulking."
"I'm not sulking," Mason muttered.
"Right," McKenna said, leaning forward. "So, are you going to tell her or what?"
"Tell who what?" Mason asked, though the defensiveness in his tone gave him away.
McKenna rolled her eyes. "Oh, come on. You've been hung up on Elena for months now. It's obvious."
Mason groaned, running a hand through his hair. "It's not that simple, McKenna."
"Yes, it is," she said firmly. "You like her. She probably likes you. So, what's the holdup?"
Mason hesitated, staring down at his phone. "I've barely talked to her since New Year's. I've been so caught up with filming, and... I don't know. She's in Belgium, living her life. What if she doesn't like me "
McKenna gave him a look, leaning back in the chair. "Mason, you're overthinking this. Trust me, as someone who's been around you nonstop these past few weeks, it's you who hasn't moved on. She's on your mind all the time."
Mason rubbed the back of his neck, unsure of what to say.
"Look," McKenna continued, her voice softening slightly, "you're scared. I get that. But, from what you've told me—and let's be honest, you don't shut up about her—Elena isn't just going to forget about you. She clearly means a lot to you, so stop making excuses and talk to her."
Mason looked up at her, his brow furrowing. "What if it's too late? She's been hanging out with those guys—Dominic and Justice. They're always in her TikToks, and she looks happy with them."
McKenna let out a small laugh. "You seriously think Dominic or Justice are competition? They're her coworkers. They're in their 20s ! You're 17 and so is she She's having fun, yeah, but have you seen the way she looks at you? Even in the old photos and videos, it's obvious."
Mason frowned, thinking back to those moments—her laughter when he called her Star Girl, the way her eyes would light up when he teased her, and the way she hugged him before her flight. "I don't want to ruin things," he said quietly.
McKenna sighed, standing up and crossing the room to sit beside him. "Mason, not telling her is the only way you're going to ruin things. If you like her, tell her. Life's too short to sit around second-guessing everything."
Mason stared at her for a moment, then nodded slowly. "You're right. I'll text her."
McKenna shook her head. "Nope. Not texting. FaceTime her. Or better yet, wait until she's back from filming and tell her in person. But for now, at least make an effort to check in. You've been radio silent for too long."
Mason chuckled softly, her bluntness easing some of his tension. "You know, for someone who pretends not to care, you're pretty invested in my love life."
McKenna smirked, standing up and grabbing her water bottle. "It's hard not to care when you're so clueless. Now, call her before I do it for you."
Mason watched her leave, then looked down at his phone again. He opened Elena's TikTok, watching her latest post one more time. His thumb hovered over the call button for a moment before he sighed.
"Okay, Star Girl," he murmured to himself, a small smile tugging at his lips. "I'll fix this."
With newfound determination, Mason opened his phone and started calling her .
