PERSONALITY.
"I'm gnashing my teeth like a child of Cain. If this is a prison, I'm willing to buy my own chain." Young-Ja has played pretend all her life. It was her favorite game growing up, and like her grandfather always said, those moments of childhood bliss shapes who she is as a person. Young-Ja is authoritative and easily annoyed; damn near a miracle that her eyes haven't gotten stuck in the back of her head due to her rolling them so much. She has a very shallow bad side and a void that is her good side. Only a select couple of people find themselves in her favor. She can point out the obvious elephants in the room and sniff out an intruder from a mile away, which is how she was able to sense Jun-Ho's presence so quickly. Solving puzzles is an instinct, and weaving out trash is second nature. She has to mask her vulnerability behind cruelty and frigid walls that she built from the ground up all her life. She does feel sympathy, though. That's one thing that separates her from her grandfather and The Front Man. Though beneath her lies she is kind, she tells you the truth bluntly. If she thinks that there is no hope for your survival, she'll tell you straight up. If she thinks she knows what's best for you— no matter how harsh it may be— she will say it. In her defense: providing someone with false hope is more inhumane than laying the harsh truth on them. Despite her demeanor, she's surprisingly funny—often making sarcastic quips and silly jokes. Her sense of humor is a little dark, and she has a tendency to act childish when she feels comfortable, whether it's pouting, making faces, or laughing at something absurd. Deep down, she craves fun and spontaneity,

MEMORABLE RELATIONSHIPS.
✷ OH IL-NAM was once her saving grace: her grandfather who so generously offered to gain custody of her after tragedy stuck their family when she was thirteen, only a month after her birthday. During the games, he would make Young-Ja sit and watch the blood bath that unfolded on the screen; eventually desensitizing her to it, and the games were almost like a sports season to her; to be expected, but not enjoyed. It must've been something wrong with her, something fucked up in her head that made it impossible to find joy in the suffering of other people... and the worst part was, he promised her that she would have to take responsibility for the games when he was dead and gone. She grew to resent her grandfather, and infiltrated his plans from the inside, all while keeping her head strung high and pretending like she was mightier than everyone in the room. She didn't mourn when her grandfather died. Hell, she wasn't aloud to due to her betrayal and the others treating her more as a prisoner than a relative of the creator. She took his passing as she was supposed to take every player who died in front of her eyes on the screens she used to monitor: trash being discarded.
✷ HER PARENTS were the best part of her, and their passing made it difficult to view December as anything more than a freezing cold ice box full of dreariness. They gave her a pendant approximately one month before they passed that's now in Jun-Ho's possession, and it's one of her most precious assets.
✷ HWANG IN-HO was her competition that she gladly lost to. Her grandfather decided that she wasn't quite ready to take over the role as the front man, so he gave it to In-Ho instead, but a part of her believes that he only did that to get under her skin. Her and In-Ho coexist for the most part until season two when he views her as nothing more than a worthless traitor that he's only keeping alive out of respect for Il-Nam. He's considerably responsible for half of the mistreatment she receives in season two, along with the masked officer.
BACKSTORY.
If you plan your moves correctly, you come out victorious. Young-Ja was the only child of Oh Jun-Yeong, the son of one of South Korea's richest men, Oh Il-Nam. Growing up was easy for her: entertainment all at her demand, never having to worry about schooling, and a life of absolute security, until that bubble burst. Her parents died on the same night when an unknown man mugged them in an alleyway outside of a restaurant, strangely pulling the trigger even after they had given him the money he asked for. She was left orphaned, and the responsibility was given to her grandfather to raise her. Her parents were always a touchy subject because of her father's constant collisions with Il-Nam over business deals that resulted in numerous trials of no-contact. A part of her thinks that it's not too far off to assume that he killed them. Il-Nam raised Young-Ja with the principals that contributed to his twisted form of entertainment, hoping that he could shape her into something similar to him: a monster robed in human flesh.

WHO FELL FIRST.
Jun-Ho. He just didn't really realize it. She was fresh on his mind when he awoke from his coma and saw that her necklace was lying on his bedside table... he was practically thanking whatever was up there watching over him that he didn't lose the necklace. Along with tracking down his brother and the island itself, he wanted to know if Young-Ja was still alive. The thought of her being dead practically because of him kept him up at night.
HEADCANONS.
✷ Young-Ja lets her silly shithead side come out around him. She pesters him for being shit at blending in as a guard and how she nearly clocked his act immediately.
✷ She gets on his nerves. She'll ask him stupid questions that make him seethe just to get him angry, because she's thinks it's funny when he's annoyed.
✷ In a domestic setting, she likes to text him while he's at work.. quite randomly. It could be 4:00 P.M. in the afternoon and she texts him "Just remembered that other women can interpret you!! IM GONNA THROW UP (˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ )"
✷ He wears her pendant around his neck under his shirts or in a secure pocket. He would never forgive himself if he lost that. He wanted to give it back to her or at least leave it wherever she lied dead. Either way, he was going to give it back to her.

✷ They both think that each other is dead. Young-Ja pretty much gave up all hope when Jun-Ho was shot right in front of her and fell off of the cliff. She was sure that he wouldn't make it and all of the planning was for nothing.
