Chapter 1
November 30th
Elf Village, North Pole
Head elf's house
Juliette had woken up with dread, it was the last day of November and how she hated the coming month. She had slept in because she wasn't ready for the rush of Christmas.
The young elf girl after a couple of minutes she finally pulled the blanket from over her. Juliette could already hear the pounding of tools making toys and the screech of wrapping paper being yanked, she covered her pointy ears with her hands. She hated all the unneeded noise that surrounded her, and her ears would pick up on every single one of them.
"Where are my earmuffs?" The question was more to herself than anyone else.
Her father Christan surprisingly walked into her room the object in hand. "You're up, good." The head elf placed the new puffy candy cane striped earmuffs over the youngest Roscoe's head and onto her ears.
"Dad!" She smiled brightly. Juliette loved her dad, and she rarely got to spend time with him, The man always off somewhere with Santa Claus. She jumped up and wrapped her arms around her father.
"Darling." He shoved the girl off of him slightly and folded his hands behind his back. "Juju come downstairs."
Juliette sighed following the man down the stairs. Wait, she looked down. "Can you I get a jolly minute?" She put her hands in her pajama sweater waiting for her father to respond.
"Juliette it's important." He turned around to his youngest his eyes looking at her. "Quickly, he wouldn't want to see you like that."
The elf backed into her room, was he going to try to marry her off again? She walked into closet filled to the brim with warm clothes. What was she going to wear if it was so big that he took off work?
There was a knock at her door. Had she taken that long?
Romeo walked through the door. "The big man is waiting for us."
"What!"
The two walked down truly dressed like twins. The boy in a sweater that said, "hug me it's cold" and the girl said, "love me like a miracle", Romeo with green and Juliette with the holiday day red.
At their breakfast table was the big man, the man of every hour, Santa Claus. He had sheet of paper on the table before him. The two teens were completely oblivious to the two suitcases at the front door.
Two seats were placed on the other end of the table from Mr. Claus. "Children sit."
There weren't many times that they wouldn't listen to the man. Slowly Romeo walked closer to the table pulling a seat out for his sister.
They were all stiff and unsettled, well the elves were Santa seemed excited.
"Romeo, Juliette, you two have come of age." Santa broke into a jolly chuckle. "So, I have your final task into being a working elf."
"Can I be a song elf?"
"What do we need to do?"
The man in red look at the Roscoe twins. "If you want young lady." He sent the girl a wink as a promise that it was possible.
The Claus raised the paper in his hand. "This list. Will keep Christmas alive." He paused the drama of the man was godly. "Have either of you two heard of Santa's third list."
Juliette rose her hand. She knew, she knew, she knew what it was. "The Christmas list. I thought that was a wise tale."
"Yes, dear. Do you want to explain it or shall I?" He nodded to the more confused Roscoe.
"You sir."
"The Christmas list is what keeps our magic alive. As kids get older, they stop believing in us. The north pole, elves, even myself." He stopped and took a bit out of a cookie that was in a jar. "We have to remind them somehow. Every year I send an elf or two to make some Christmas miracles."
"Matchmaking!" Her eyes widened at the attention it had gotten. "Sorry, continue." She bowed her head shyly.
"This list has 24 names, 12 couples each one will be reviled once you've gotten the first together." Even though it was completely visible to him it wasn't for anyone else. "You have until Christmas eve to get them all together."
"Here?" Romeo asked. He loved the north pole and helping all the elves all the time.
"No." Christian spoke from the kitchen. "Lights down lane."
Romeo glared at the man. "Why, not Red-light Village?" He challenged his father.
"Son, the humans need to believe in Christmas." Santa said standing up and gave Juliette the list. "You must go before midnight." He walked to the door the two twins following.
"Can we go please Nomieo?" She pouted at the boy putting her hand on his shoulder.
