β main plot.
in the kingdom of elyria, a cruel king rules with an iron fist. for decades, magic has been outlawedβa selfish and useless ploy invented by the king to "avenge" his dead sister and, as a bonus, to eliminate magical threats. in retaliation, seven magical people infiltrate the palace and plot a coup to kill the king and right society. unbeknownst to them, the king isn't who he claims to be nor is the queen who she says she is; the foreign royals, too, are creating their own separate plots. in theory, killing the king isn't a difficult task, and perhaps it'll be easy, but taking his dominion and changing society? well, that'll be much more difficultβprovided they can even succeed in eliminating the king.

β foreign royals.
after the conquest occurring over a period of several years not long ago, four of elyria's neighboring kingdoms fell under their rule and became subject of their radically different ideals. with most of the foreign royals locked away in some distant place, the eldest male and female child of each royal family were taken in as wards by a governing noble family. after months or perhaps years of learning the elyrian ways, this set of eight royals were brought to the palace; the princesses to court the prince and the princes existing as respected hostages. here's the catch: there are five princesses courting the prince, four coming from conquered kingdoms and one coming from an allied one, but here's where things really get tricky. the princess who succeeds in winning the prince's heart will marry into the royal family and her family will be spared and released while her brother is given more liberal dictation of their home country. the second catch? well, for those who don't catch the prince's eye, they'll lose their heads just the same as their whole family will. it's a heavy burden to bear, truly. unless you're the khalidan royals. now, they're just selfish bastards in it due to their competitive nature and power hungry philosophies.

β the seven assassins.
aka the main seven magical roles. these people have come together and have formed a plot to assassinate the king. coming from different areas of life, these people have three things in common: their magic, their liberal beliefs, and their hatred for the king. after meeting in secret, the group devised a methodical plot to get everyone inside the palace. first, the daughter of the king's right hand already had a place and so she made the mistress her lady so she could be close to the king. after seducing the king and becoming his mistress, the mistress brought in the artist to paint portraits of her and the royals. then, the daughter of the king's right hand brought in the sedeina to work in the royal sedei. from there, the apothecary was brought in by the mistress who referenced him when she'd deliberately poisoned herself (though everyone thought someone else had poisoned her) and from there, the mistress brought in the king's assassin to serve as her guard and as a royal assassin. and lastly, to seal the deal, they brought in the knight whose skill was already notorious throughout the kingdom to serve in the palace, specifically under lord valaryen's liege. together they intend to assassinate the king and all those they deem worthy of a bloody demise on their path to forge a better world.

β the elyrian royals.
the king himself is a tyrannical force many of the others are trying to take down and he's going to be kept more of a mystery than an open book throughout the roleplay. i'll just start by saying that he'll be more difficult to kill than you'd expect. however, the king has siblings and they're here to bring stability and security. they're like the watchers; they know more than they let on and they're both deceptive liars. however, the king's also got a bastard sister. brought here by her half-sister, the bastard's got no clue why she's even here except to serve as a distraction for her younger half-sister and this was not the family reunion she'd been hoping for. but then there's the king's children. of his three surviving children, these young royals serve as juvenile watchers. they're the more oblivious ones and they're all wrapped up in their own worlds but there will come a time where they have to pick a side. will they be loyal to their blood or will they take a leap of faith even if they lose their heads for it?
lastly, there's the king's seventh bride. having been arranged in a marriage to the king, the young noblewoman has to begin studying the king to map out how she's going to outlive him. she's young and sweet without any intention to kill her future husband but who knows how far he'll push her? she knows the shared fate of the king's past six wives and she knows without a doubt that she won't make it if she isn't smart. however, the queen's gifted with magical abilitiesβsomething she's not allowed to have or supposed to have. if displeasing the king is a nail in the coffin then having magical abilities means certain death without any exceptions. so, she'll be forced to choose, too, before she's on the chopping block like the women who came before her.

β the elyrian nobility.
as clean slates, the young nobles can have any beliefs. they can be the nastiest brats you've ever met or the most cunning killers you've ever seen. one thing's for sure thoughβnone of them are truly innocent even if they act like it. raised sly, intelligent, and ambitious, the elyrian nobility is constantly at one another's throats, just waiting for the golden moment to tear someone else down to raise themselves up. even if there's no way to get higher, they'll find a way. in fact, some may have plans to become the king's next mistress or his next queen (as many are already gearing for the new queen's downfall) and others may intend to court a prince or princess. at the end of the day, nobles only want to gain more power than they already have. or perhaps there are the golden few who want to take out the powerful instead.

βββββββ
β guards & ladies.
serving foreign royals and elyrian royals, guards and ladies easily slip into places where no one else would be allowed in. they have eyes and ears everywhere and they make the perfect spies and thus, some do work as such. though ladies sometimes appear dimwitted and guards callous, they've got much more intelligence and passion to them than they are credited with. with ambitions of their own, guards and ladies seek to elevate and support the royal they aid or they serve to spy on them for someone else. anyone can be bought out, right? lastly, the elyrian queen's ladies are particularly special. though some guards and ladies correspond in plots with their royals, the queen's ladies leave her out of the loop. the queen's too naive to know anything. whether their plot is supportive or malicious is completely between them and no one else.
βββββββ
βββββββ
β the king's council.
these cunning bastards exist solely to keep the kingdom afloat although if i didn't know any better, it'd seem like it's going pretty well on its own (having conquered four of its neighboring kingdoms already, that is). but actually, keeping things together isn't as easy as it seems. the king's council is filled with sly, intelligent men who may be working for the king, working against the king, or working solely for the kingdom and not for or against anyone. these men are highly ambitious and honestly, they serve as one of the biggest threats of exposure for the main seven, the queen, and the foreign royals. it seems as if they're always looking for things that'll tear your reputation to pieces. and they are.
