chapter thirty-two;

━━━━━━ "CATCH US IF YOU CAN", KISA LAUGHED as her and dabi ran out of the bank, carrying two bags of currency.

     the couple hurried into their race car that they had promptly borrowed from a random civilian, which just so happened to be a little more wealthy than the average person.

     dabi started the car as kisa buckled in.

     "ready?"

     "fucking drive", kisa grinned, to which the car had sped down the road, towards the outskirts of tokyo city.

"should we pick up some food on the way?"

before kisa could answer, a loud abundance of sirens had started blaring nonstop, making the woman irked.

"why're they so obnoxious?", kisa scoffed as she pressed a button to open the car's rooftop.

     "be careful", dabi warned as kisa promptly took her boot heels off, standing on the seat with hello kitty socks on in all her glory.

     grinning, kisa waved at the officers that were driving and leaning their bodies out the window. it was risky since they didn't know kisa's quirk...well...her powers.

     "it's looking pretty cold today. how about I help warm you guys up?", kisa shouted as her two hands outstretched in front of her, blasting swirls of black flames at the multiple cars that were chasing them.

     the girl then started manically laughing, leaning against the edge of the car's rooftop as she watched the cars tumble into each other, creating a metal-like tumbleweed.

     though there was one police care that had avoided all the chaos.

kisa had partially forgotten that humans even had quirks, including police officers. clicking her tongue, the girl watched as the male officer seemed quite pleased that he has a water type quirk.

the male had somehow managed to conjure up tornadoes of water, sending it towards the couple's borrowed car.

     though before kisa could diminish the swirling tornadoes of water, dabi had sharply turned the car left, making kisa nearly fall onto the male.

     "damn, why so aggressive?"

dabi simply chuckled as he shrugged. "we're escaping a crime scene right now, I think I have the right to be aggressive".

kisa clicked her tongue as she sat back down on her seat, fumbling through her bag as she found her other revolver that she didn't use against re-destro last time.

"you're gonna waste a quirk-canceling bullet on a measly police officer?", dabi snorted.

     "it's my other revolver, the one with normal bullets", kisa said.

     "I thought both were filled with quirk-canceling bullets when you fought against re-destro".

     "it was a luck of a draw. I kind of forgot which one held the normal and the special ones. it just so happened that I shot him with the quirk-canceling ones", kisa laughed as she stood up on the seat once more, aiming her gun at the car still chasing after them.

"you know, I wonder why the heroes haven't showed up yet", dabi commented.

"it's a mere bank robbery. heroes don't need to take care of such a insignificant crime", kisa said as she shot three bullets at the driver, cracking the glass and making it hard to see where they were going.

the police car ended up crashing onto its side as dabi and kisa swiftly escaped.

the girl enjoyed the breeze of victory as she sat back down, seeing as they were now up in the mountains, surrounded by mostly leafless trees and bushes.

"let's stop over there", kisa pointed, to which dabi had immediately turned the car, harshly stopping as the girl's body fell forward and nearly smashed into the dashboard.

kisa glared at dabi, who just had a smirk on his face.

"shall we camp out here for the night princess?"

     "hm...I suppose. that's the whole point of a road trip isn't it?", kisa smiled, taking out her phone as she forced dabi into a picture with her.

     "what the hell? you could've told me first", dabi said as he quickly combed through his hair, taking out his own phone and pulling kisa towards him.

     the girl laughed as she crawled out of her seat and onto dabi's lap, so that their faces were closer to each other.

     "smile~", kisa teased, to which as soon as dabi had clicked the camera button, the male had turned to kiss the girl's cheek.

     "sneaky little shit", kisa smiled as she thought the picture looked quite nice despite their background being the backseat of their car.

     "so what are we going to do the with the two bags of money?", dabi mumbled, wrapping his arms around kisa's waist.

"hmm...what do you want to do with it, my love?"

"burning it would be too much of a waste. how about going overseas? or eating expensive meals everyday?"

kisa hummed as an idea suddenly popped into her head.

"how about we save it for a later date? I want to take you somewhere tomorrow", kisa suggested.

dabi frowned a bit at that. "I suppose..."

"come on love. tomorrow's a very important day", kisa persuaded.

"it's january first", kisa reminded, to which it had seemed just like another normal day to dabi.

"it's a new year, which means a new beginning", kisa smiled, leaning her face against dabi's as she opened the rooftop of the car.

it was quite the chilly night, but dabi's body emitted more heat than the average person's, making kisa sink into the male's warm embrace.

"that's not how life works", dabi solemnly replied. "you can't just stop being a villain and start anew".

     "ironic isn't it? you can go from being a hero to a villain in a day, but not the reverse", kisa bitterly laughed, interlacing her fingers with dabi's and rubbing the back of his hand.

     "do you regret it?"

"regret what?", dabi asked.

"didn't you aspire to become the number one pro hero? or at least beat all might?"

     "I did...", dabi mumbled, tilting the chair back so that he could get a better view of the plentiful stars.

     "I wanted...to be stronger", dabi mumbled, kissing the top of the girl's head and keeping his lower half of his face there.

     "if you were to go up against him right now, do you think you'd be able to take him down?", kisa asked.

     dabi scoffed. "no".

     "really?"

"my fire may be stronger...but his experience makes up for it", dabi answered.

"what if I told you that I can help you stand on an even field with him? perhaps...an even higher one?"

"at what cost?"

"again, just help me become empress of the yōkai world, and I'll give you equal strength to that of all might's".

     "why would you just decide to help us on a whim?"

     "it's not on a whim. I've been planning for this for too long", kisa lightly chuckled, to which dabi just raised a brow in confusion.

     "you speak like you're a hundred years old", dabi snorted, making kisa shake her head in protest.

"don't tease me", kisa playfully scolded. "and plus, I'm doing this because I want to spoil my husbands. is that so wrong?"

dabi chuckled. "you make it sound like you actually love us".

kisa hummed.

"well maybe I do".
