asshole lacrosse players. ╱ season one, episode two.
AS THE SCHOOL bell rang for the final time that day, while people were rushing out of the classrooms and into the hallways, Eden took her time. There was a hesitance in her movements, knowing what would be coming out of her leaving school. While this was what she wanted, to be a part of this. Anxiety clawed up her throat at the thought of finding a dead body. She truly didn't know if she could stomach it, she was so surprised at how easily the two boys were taking it. They acted so nonchalant when it came to finding the other half of the body.
Eden's eyes wandered around the halls, just waiting for Stiles to pop up in between the people slowly filing out and into the parking lot. But his face never popped up. So the blonde headed towards her locker, thinking about what textbooks she needed to take home with her that night. Just as she found herself in front of her locker, Eden's name was being called at the end of the hall.
Glancing toward the source of the noise, she was met with Piper Jackson smiling brightly as she was walking towards her. "Eden! I haven't seen you all day!"
"Hi Piper," Eden greeted nonchalantly as she pulled her biology textbook out of her locker.
"Where have you been?" The redhead asked kindly, her hands resting on the straps of her backpack.
"Around, just really haven't been feeling like sitting with queen bee and her jock asshole at lunch," Eden answered, most of that was true, but she couldn't let the redhead know the real reason that manifested in two teenage boys she was looking for.
"I get it, they can be a lot. I'm not a huge fan of Jackson honestly." Piper shrugged, her words making Eden look up from her locker.
"Why do you hang around him then?" Eden questioned.
"For Lydia," Piper replied, her words earnest but there was an annoyance behind them. "Behind her queen bee persona, there's a real person. I've seen it. We've been best friends since middle school, that person is still there. Even if she doesn't like people to see it."
Eden stood there taking in her words, finding sympathy for the girl who just wanted her best friend back. "Hopefully, she'll drop him soon enough."
Piper smiled at her words, "Yeah, I hope."
"So, what did you want?" Eden questioned, closing her locker door once all of her stuff was packed into her bag.
"I just wanted to say hi," The girl gleamed, but there was a hint of mischief in her eyes. "Also, I was wondering if you'd be interested in me introducing you to a couple guys from the lacross team."
Eden sent her a look of unsureness, knowing her lack of interest in this idea already. "I don't know Piper..."
"Oh come on, it'll be fun." The girl said brightly, her face full of hope.
"I-"
"Hey, you ready to go?" Eden internally rejoiced when she turned to see Stiles walking up to her and Piper, his tone turning into a more hurried pace when he grew closer to her. Eden went to open her mouth to respond to the boy, but the redhead was quicker.
"What're you two doing tonight?" Piper questioned, her eyes tightening with a slyness to them as she smiled mischievously.
"Studying."
"Video games."
Piper furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, her eyes moving from Stiles and back to Eden. "You play video games?"
"No, he's been trying to get me to play with him, but I keep refusing." Eden lied fluently, she turned to Stiles to give him a quick glare to make sure he'd go along with her words. "We're just studying tonight, right?"
The boy instantly nodded along with her words, "Right, I'll wear her down eventually."
"That's what I'm trying to do," Piper groaned playfully, looking between Eden and Stiles as a light flickered in her eyes as something dawned on her. "Stiles will you please convince her to take up my offer."
Eden grunted lightly at her words, the boy looked between the girls, confused by the disgruntlement Eden was visibly feeling. "Offer?"
"I'm trying to set her up with a few guys on the lacrosse team," Piper responded, watching the distaste on Eden's face as the words came out of her mouth. "She doesn't want to, but I think it's good for her. What do you think?"
The boy paused for a second, trying to think of what would be the right thing to say. From Piper's hopeful eyes to Eden's swirling with repulsion, Stiles was conflicted. He just shrugged, "I mean, shouldn't she decide? If she wants to or not?"
Eden couldn't help the small smile that twisted on her lips at his words. She soon after promptly grabbed his arm and began dragging him toward the exit. "See, he's on my side. We gotta go, Piper, I'll see you later."
The redhead couldn't stop a frown from etching on her face, but it quickly faded as she nodded. "Okay, I'll convince you!"
Eden smiled falsely, "We'll see."
As the two walked with Eden leading him, her grip still tight on his arm. Stiles couldn't help from looking back at Piper and back at the girl next to him. "Are you gonna do it?"
The moment they exited the school, Eden dropped her hand, quickly shoving it into the pocket of her jacket. "The Piper thing? I don't know. You know the lacrosse boys, what do you think?"
"I wouldn't do it, they're a bunch of assholes, minus Danny," Stiles answered, his words blunt and honest.
Eden couldn't help but snort at his words, "You realize you and Scott are on the lacrosse team as well. So that means you guys are assholes too right?"
Stiles immediately shook his head, "See, we're different. Since we typically ride the bench, that devoid us of being in the asshole category."
"Of course, I totally forgot about that," Eden remarked sarcastically, she couldn't help glancing up at him with a smile, finding their conversation amusing. "Your dork status brings you down to earth."
"Exactly," The boy let out a laugh at her words, glancing down at her in the same manner, "But I prefer nerd."
"Oh right, my mistake." The blonde teased. As the joke faded away, Eden realized that their eyes still latched on each other's with an intensity that she hadn't felt before. The girl was quick to break the stare with an awkward cough the boy instantly followed suit. "So where's Scott?"
"We're meeting him at the hospital."
Eden looked up at him with curiosity, "Why the hospital?"
"He skipped sixth period to confront Derek and I guess he smelt something there. He said he needed to smell the other half of the body, so he can make sure the smell is the same." Stiles explained as he unlocked his Jeep. Both of the teens immediately hopped into the vehicle.
"Great, so now we gotta sneak Scott into the morgue?" Eden asked.
"Pretty much." Stiles nodded, eyes flicking from the road to her briefly as he spoke.
"How are we gonna go that?" The blonde followed up, confused as to how Scott was gonna get in there unnoticed.
The boy sighed, shrugging at her thought process, "Not a clue."
"Awesome." Eden mumbled, her eyes flicking towards the passenger window, finding the view outside easing as fear and anxiety clawed at her chest, worrying about the night that had yet to come.

EDEN'S HEART BEGAN to pound in her chest as Stiles pulled into the hospital parking lot. Her nails had been tapping against the passenger side door since they pulled out of the high school lot. She could tell the incessant tapping was getting to Stiles as she occasionally saw him give her the side eye as the corner of his lips twitched in annoyance. She was sure he could feel nervousness wafting off of her in waves, so that's why he had yet to say something to her about it.
Eden thought the car ride to the hospital would be quiet, but she should've known to expect nothing but quiet. Stiles didn't hesitate to talk about the situation at hand, only making Eden more nervous. She could tell it was in an attempt to calm her down, but the more he explained what Scott's plan was like, the more Eden felt hesitant to do it. But as they parked the car, she realized she had no choice.
Once her feet hit the pavement of the hospital parking lot, she noticed Scott stalking up to them with anxiety surrounding him, and she immediately understood she was not alone in her feelings. She barely noticed her surroundings until she was following in tow with Scott and Stiles as they entered the hospital.
They took a moment to take in their surroundings, noticing the amount of people that were bustling through the hospital. Stiles quickly gestured to both of them, pointing at the door that led to the morgue. "Hey,"
"Okay." Scott sent them a nervous smile and nodded as he refused to break eye contact with them as his eyes bounced between them and the door he was supposed to walk through.
"Good luck, I guess," Stiles said, his voice unsure.
"If you get caught, I don't know either of you," Eden stated, finding a seat in one of the waiting chairs. They watched her for a moment as she pulled a random pamphlet from the table next to her and began reading it. Scott shook his head as Stiles shrugged and watched the boy begin his trek through the door.
Eden watched the boy disappear behind the door in her prereferral vision, she let out a breath of relief knowing that she was safe in the waiting room. She expected Stiles to plop down next to her, but his voice caught her attention as he talked to someone on the other side of the corner.
"Hey Lydia," The boy greeted, his hand resting on the corner of the wall. "You probably don't remember me...um, I sit behind you in biology."
There was an awkward silence that followed his words, Eden half expected him to stop and just sit down. But against her hopes, he continued. "Uh anyway, I always thought that we just had this kind of connection. You know, unspoken, of course. Maybe it'd be kind of cool to get to know each other a little better..."
Eden couldn't help the grimace that washed over her face at his nervous words, knowing how this was most likely going to play out, knowing the redhead behind the corner.
"Hold on, give me a second," Lydia replied, it was almost an instant connection, knowing that the girl was on the phone. "Yeah, I didn't get any of what you just said, is it worth repeating?"
Stiles laughed awkwardly, standing straight up, immediately shaking his head. "Um, no, sorry."
The boy was quick to sit down next to Eden, defeat written all over his features. The blonde felt so bad for him, uncomfortableness washed over her in waves, still in shock by how awkward that conversation was. While she shouldn't have said anything, the girl truly couldn't help herself. "That was a tough watch."
Stiles sarcastically laughed, sending her a slight glare. But he couldn't hide the light blush dusting his cheeks as he sunk further down into the chair. "Hahaha, thanks,"
Eden bit her lips to avoid the slight amusement, rising in her chest. But the humor immediately faded once the door in front of them was roughly pushed open. Both of the teens sitting down jumped up to their feet once their eyes fell on Scott, his face much paler than it was before.
"The scent was the same."
Eden's eyes widened instantly in surprise, as Stiles's features mimicked the same expression. The boy didn't stop until he was walking over to Scott. "You sure?"
"Yes."
Stiles sighed, eyes briefly flickering up to the ceiling as he thought. "So he did bury half of the body on his property."
Scott nodded, "Which means we have proof that he killed the girl."
"I say we use it," Stiles stated, his attention now directed at the entrance door, making his way toward it.
"How?" Scott questioned, confusion lacing his features as he watched Stiles.
"Tell me something first," Stiles remarked, twirling around to stare down Scott. "Are you doing this because you want to stop Derek, or do you want to play in the game, and he said you couldn't?"
Scott glanced at him, his eyes swirling with sincerity, "There are bite marks on legs, Stiles...bite marks."
That seemingly was all Stiles needed to know before he nodded and clapped his hands softly as he made eye contact with both of them. "Okay, then we're gonna need a shovel."
Eden's nose scrunched at the thought of a shovel and what it was going to be used for. But she just swallowed her distaste and followed closely behind the boys, knowing if she really did this, there was no going back. As she found herself sinking into the passenger seat of Stiles' jeep, there was a feeling in her chest, that told her that she'll be okay with that.

THE MIDNIGHT AIR clung to her through the holes in her fishnets like a second skin, making a chill run through her spine. She stood idly by with her arms crossed, trying to warm herself up. Even with her lined leather jacket, the cold air never failed to seep into her bones. She most definitely regretted the black jean shorts that covered her body once she walked out into the eerie night air at the burned-down Hale house.
Eden sat on the ground next to the grave while she shined a light for Scott and Stiles as they had been working diligently to dig up the grave. It was clear to the boys that Eden was just there for moral support and she had no plan of getting into the grave and doing something. Once they began, Stiles quickly appointed her the duty of holding the flashlight for them. The girl didn't even fight back against it and just did what he said, knowing that was better than what they were doing.
They quickly began their dig once Derek was driving off, to do what was unknown to them, but they just knew they had to act fast. But fast isn't what describes grave digging. Minutes eventually turned into an hour and a half of digging and they didn't seem even close to finding the body. Eden noticed that Scott was beginning to get antsy as he would occasionally stop digging and look around wildly, almost waiting for Derek to pop out from around the corner. But he never did.
"This is taking way too long." Scott broke through the focused silence, his panic shining through clear as day.
Stiles ignored his complaint, not stopping his shoveling motions. "Just keep going."
"What if he comes back?" Scott questioned, his voice exasperated from all the digging.
"Then we get the hell out of here," Eden said plainly, leaning her chin on her knee as she readjusted the hand holding the light.
Scott turned back to the girl at her words, "What if he catches us?"
Eden shrugged in response, but Stiles just sighed staring at him like it was obvious. "I have a plan for that."
"Which is?"
Eden straightened up at Stiles's statement, interested in his plan. The boy sent them both a glance, not stopping his digging. "You run one way, Eden and I run in the other. Whoever he catches first, too bad."
"I hate that plan." Scott grimaced.
"I don't mind that plan," Eden interrupted, shrugging away Scott's concern.
"Well, of course you would." The brunet wolf didn't hesitate to throw her attitude right back in her face, a look of annoyance on his features.
"Don't be mad at the fact that you'd be the one being caught not me."
The boy straightened up, twirling around to look at the girl, "How are you so sure that I'm the one getting caught?"
"Well, first of all, a. you're alone and he's more apt to go after you, and b. I can push Stiles down to get away. So either way, I'm golden." Eden stated it as if it was the most obvious thing ever. At her words, both boys were now turned around, Stiles looked at her in offense.
"You'd push me down to get away?" Stiles blurted, his tone laced with slight hurt. Scott just rolled his eyes and turned to begin digging again.
Eden shrugged, "Listen, realistically I can see you talking yourself out of it. Me, Derek wouldn't like me and it'd be lights out."
The boy with the buzzcut took a second to think about it and then nodded slowly in agreement, "Yeah, I can see that."
"See," Eden remarked, "You understand now,"
The boy snorted and shook his head as he turned around to start again like Scott, "Still mad though,"
"Oh well, go file a complaint with HR then." Eden clapped back, leaning her head against her curled-up knees. Once again, she began keeping the flashlight still for them so they'd have a better view.
"I just might," Stiles commented nonchalantly, his back still turned to her.
"Good luck," Eden said, her face in a faux grimace. "They rarely get back to anyone these days."
"Oh, yeah-"
Scott quickly interrupted their little back and forth. "Will both of you stop it, I think I found something."
The two teens next to him immediately stopped as they heard the clink of the shovel hitting something hard, something that wasn't dirt. Eden instantly jumped up from her seat on the ground, lighting shining as she desperately tried to see what was in the grave. Her eyebrows furrowed the moment she saw all the knots that lined the bag that held the body.
"Hurry," Scott stated as he watched Stiles struggle to unknot the bag.
The boy with the buzzcut sent him a glare, "I'm trying, did he have to tie the thing in like nine hundred knots?"
Scott immediately dove in, pushing the boy's hands away. "I'll do it."
Eden's heart pounded in her chest watching them slowly untie the bag, she feared what they were going to find. Once the bag was open, the boys clearly didn't expect it either. They instantly jumped out of the grave in surprise, screams of terror echoing through the silent night air. Eden barely had any time to move back as Stiles's back rammed right into her legs, making her fall back and taking her down to the ground. Her body slammed against the ground, and a groan of pain escaped her lips at the throbbing sensation that ached through her bones.
"What the hell is that?" Stiles questioned loudly, not even registering that he had run into the girl behind him. That was until he heard her groan when he had yet to get off her legs, turning his gave her a quick once over and moved. "Oh crap, Eden you alright?"
"Peachy." The girl remarked, dusting off the dirt that made its way to her legs. She got up to inspect the grave, having yet to see what made them act that way. Once the girl saw the top half of a wolf, the girl immediately ducked away cupping her mouth in surprise. "What in the actual fuck?"
"It was a wolf."
"Yeah, I can see that." Stiles sent him a look of annoyance, "I thought you said you smelled blood, as in human blood?"
Scott shook his head, shrugging lightly, "I told you something was different."
"This doesn't make sense," Stiles stated, his eyes glued to the wolf that lay at the bottom of the grave.
"Maybe Wolfie doesn't know his scents as well as he thought," Eden blurted, which led to an immediate glare from Scott.
"I know what I smelled."
The blonde sent him an annoyed look in return, crossing her arms in annoyance, "Yeah, well that's not a human, dickhead, explain that."
Just as Scott went to argue, Stiles interrupted their bickering, "We need to get out of here." Both didn't hesitate to nod in agreement, immediately dropping their argument. "Alright, Scott help me cover this up. Eden, hold the flashlight still."
Stiles went to grab the shovel, but he paused as his eyes caught something a few feet ahead of them. "Eden, shine the light over there, what is that?"
The girl furrowed her eyebrows and pointed the flashlight in the direction that he said. Her eyes instantly fell on a purple flower that reminded her of lavender. "It's a flower."
"Yeah, what about it?" Scott questioned, making a brief shared confused glance with Eden.
Stiles's eyes refused to leave the plant, "I think it's wolfsbane."
Scott's face looked even more lost at his answer. "What's that?"
"Haven't you ever seen The Wolf Man?" Stiles questioned, not only towards Scott but Eden as well.
Both of them shook their heads, while Scott replied with a simple. "No."
"Lon Chaney Jr.? Claude Rains? The original, classic werewolf movie?"
Again, Scott and Eden's faces remained blank, both shrugging simultaneously. "No."
"What?" Stiles exclaimed like he was offended by their lack of movie knowledge. "You both are so uneducated it hurts. How you're a werewolf, I don't understand."
Stiles immediately shot up from his position kneeling on the ground, to touch the flower. But things got even more confusing when the stem of the flower was attached to a rope. They all shared a worried and bewildered glance as they watched Stiles follow the rope, picking it up as he went along. Eden's eyes trailed the boy as he went round and round the grave, his face getting more and more perplexed as he went.
In the corner of her eye, she saw something change. Snapping her head to the grave, she let out a loud gasp as her stomach dropped. "Guys, look."
Both of them paused, mouths gaped as they stared down at the grave. The upper half of the wolf that used to reside in the grave was no longer there. Now was replaced with the upper half of a dead girl. The sight alone made Eden sick to her stomach, but she swallowed the nausea and focused on what their next move was.
By the way Stiles quickly packed up the materials they used, it was clear they were leaving as soon as possible. Eden felt like she was on autopilot as she picked up the things that Scott and Stiles couldn't carry. She wanted out, to be away from the body, and in Stiles' jeep where she wouldn't have to see the dead girl looking right up at her. Eden felt like the girl was watching her every move and it made her even more antsy to leave. But the feeling of panic never ceased. Even after the abandoned charred house was out of sight, the feeling still lingered. This changed things, and Eden didn't know if that was good or not.
