[03] The 'A' Cafe
Six months had passed since Kiara left for London, leaving behind the family she loved, and the memories that still lingered in her heart like an open wound. The pain of her broken heart had been a constant companion, a reminder of the love she had lost, and the life she had left behind. Every day was a struggle, every moment a reminder of what she had lost.
After many struggles, countless setbacks, and unwavering determination, Kiara had finally found a sense of stability and purpose in her life
The "A" cafe, a place that had become a refuge for Kiara, a place where she could escape the memories of her past and lose herself in the hustle and bustle of the busy cafe. She had been working there part-time, juggling her shifts with her studies, trying to make a new life for herself in London.
The cafe had become a familiar comfort, a place where she knew the rhythms and routines, where she could anticipate the regulars' orders and banter with the friendly staff. Kiara had grown to love the smell of freshly brewed coffee, the sound of steam hissing from the espresso machine, and the warmth of the cozy atmosphere.
But the pain of her memories was not just limited to Abhir. Kiara missed her family, her friends, and the life she had left behind. She felt like a part of her had been ripped away, leaving her with a gaping hole that she couldn't fill. The city of London, which was supposed to be a new beginning, felt cold and unforgiving. The grey skies and the bustling streets only seemed to emphasize her loneliness.
As the days turned into weeks, and the weeks turned into months, Kiara's struggles only seemed to intensify. She felt like she was drowning in her sorrow, like she was losing herself in the process of trying to move on. There were days when she wouldn't get out of bed, when the pain of her memories would be too much to bear. There were nights when she would cry herself to sleep, her heart feeling like it was shattered into a million pieces.
Despite her struggles, Kiara was determined to move on. She threw herself into her work, using the distraction to numb the pain. She made new friends, people who didn't know her past, and who didn't judge her for her mistakes. She started to explore the city, finding solace in the anonymity of the crowds. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't shake off the feeling of emptiness, the feeling that a part of her was still back in India, with the people she loved.
The questions that had haunted Kiara for so long, the ones that she couldn't shake off no matter how hard she tried. Did Abhir marry Charu? Was he happy? Were they happy together?
Kiara's mind would wander to visions of Abhir and Charu, of them exchanging vows, of them building a life together. She would imagine Abhir's smile, his laughter, his eyes shining with happiness as he looked at Charu. And with each passing day, the pain of those images would lessen, but the ache in her heart would remain.
She would wonder if Abhir ever thought of her, if he ever remembered the way she used to make him laugh, the way she used to make him feel. Or had he erased her from his memory, had he moved on to a new chapter in his life, one that didn't include her?
Abhir was her first love, her pehla pyaar, and as the saying goes, "Pehla pyaar bhulaya bhula nahi jata" - the first love can never be forgotten. Kiara's heart still yearned for him, still ached for him, still loved him with a passion that refused to fade, even though her love had been one-sided.
She remembered the way Abhir used to smile at her, the way he used to talk to her, the way he used to make her feel like she was the only person in the world. She remembered the way she used to feel when he was around, like her heart was skipping beats, like her soul was on fire.
Even though Abhir had never reciprocated her feelings, even though he had never loved her back, Kiara's love for him had been pure and true. She had loved him with every fiber of her being, with every beat of her heart. And even though it had been one-sided, even though it had been unrequited, Kiara's love for Abhir had been real, and it still lingered in her heart.
As she lay in bed, surrounded by the darkness of the night, Kiara couldn't help but wonder what could have been, what would have happened if Abhir had loved her back, if he had felt the same way. The thought was a bittersweet one, filled with regret and longing, but it was a thought that Kiara couldn't shake off, a thought that would haunt her for the rest of her life.
Kiara's introspective reverie was shattered by a loud, piercing scream. "Kiaraaaa!" Her roommate's voice cut through the air, making Kiara's heart skip a beat. She startled, her eyes wide with surprise, as she turned to face Dhvani.
"Dhvani yaar, aese koi chilata hai kya?" Kiara asked, rubbing her chest to calm her racing heart. "Dara diya tha mujhe," she added, her voice laced with a mix of amusement and annoyance.
Kiara and Dhvani's friendship was a serendipitous meeting of two kindred spirits. They had met in their university, bonding over shared interests, laughter, and tears. As they spent more time together, their connection deepened, forming a bond that was more beautiful than that of sisters.
As they took a short break in the back room of the 'A' cafe, where they both worked, Dhvani suddenly burst out laughing, her eyes shining with mirth. "Sorry, Kiara! I didn't mean to scare you!" she exclaimed, holding her sides in amusement.
Kiara's initial shock gave way to a warm smile as she laughed along with Dhvani. "What's got you so excited?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.
Dhvani took a deep breath before speaking. "The cafe's owner is coming tomorrow," she announced, her eyes sparkling with excitement. Kiara's eyes widened in surprise. "Really? I've never met him before," she said, her mind racing with questions.
Dhvani nodded. "Yeah, I've heard he's really nice. He went to India a few months before you came to London, and now he's returning," she explained, her voice filled with curiosity.
Kiara wondered what his trip to India had been like, and what changes he might bring to the cafe. She hoped that he would be pleased with her work, and that she would be able to continue working at the cafe.
Dhvani's eyes took on a dreamy quality as she spoke, a sly smile spreading across her face. "Maine toh suna hai woh bohot hot aur handsome hai!" she exclaimed, her voice dripping with excitement.
Kiara rolled her eyes good-naturedly, chuckling at her friend's dramatics. "Dhvani, you're such a romantic! You've never even met the guy, and you're already swooning over him," she teased, playfully nudging her friend.
Dhvani's grin only grew wider, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Hey, someone's got to keep things interesting around here! And who knows, maybe he'll sweep us off our feet," she said, winking at Kiara.
Kiara's brow furrowed in confusion as she tried to make sense of the strange feeling that had settled in the pit of her stomach. She didn't know why, but the mention of the cafe's owner had made her feel nervous, like she was waiting for something to happen.
As she pondered the feeling, a shiver ran down her spine. It was as if she knew the owner, but that was impossible. She had never met him before, and yet...and yet, there was something familiar about the way Dhvani had spoken about him.
