ENTANGLED BEGINNINGS
WANG JUNGFEI'S POV
I want to know what it has to have a peaceful life, to have 2 minutes of peace where you do what you admire, where you do whatever you want. But guess what, life has its own darkness.
I never had the luxury of experiencing peace. My life has been a series of unfortunate events, each one darker than the last. It all started when my father died on duty in a tragic accident. Then, a mysterious event claimed my mother's life, and nobody cared enough to give me the justice I yearned for.
Now, I have nothing. Just the memories of my parents and a past where we were a happy family. And here I am, navigating through life's cruel twists, enduring it all with a smile on my face.
My father, a brave soul who sacrificed his life for others, left me too soon. His absence created a void that no one could fill. And then, the mysterious circumstances surrounding my mother's death only added to the shadows that loomed over my life.
No one cared about the truth or sought justice for her. I was left alone, grappling with the pain of loss and the injustice that tainted my family's memory. Life became a relentless struggle, and I learned to wear a facade of strength, hiding the turmoil within.
As I reminisce about the beautiful moments we shared as a family, the warmth of love, and the laughter that echoed in our home, it feels like a distant dream. The stark contrast between that blissful past and my current reality is a painful reminder of how swiftly life can change.
I've walked this path alone, with the weight of grief and injustice on my shoulders. The world moved on, oblivious to my struggles, leaving me to fend for myself. But I've learned to carry this burden with a smile, masking the pain that lingers beneath the surface.
In the pursuit of peace, I find solace in the memories of a time when happiness was not a distant memory. As I navigate through the complexities of life, I hold onto the hope that one day justice will prevail, and the shadows that haunt me will be dispelled.
Determined to carve out a new path, I decided to try my luck by applying for the vacant secretary position I heard about. It was a glimmer of hope in the midst of life's uncertainties. As I got ready for the interview, I couldn't help but feel a surge of nerves mixed with anticipation.
I dressed in my most professional attire, carefully choosing each piece to present myself as a capable candidate. The mirror reflected a woman ready to face the challenges that awaited her in the corporate world.
Arriving at the office, I couldn't shake off the knot in my stomach. The unfamiliar surroundings and the weight of my past experiences lingered in the air. Yet, I pressed on, determined to embrace this opportunity for change.
My encounter with the receptionist, however, was less than welcoming. A woman with a scowl etched across her face looked me up and down, her tone laced with condescension as she questioned my purpose.
"What are you here for?" she snapped, as if my mere presence was an inconvenience.
"I'm here for the secretary position interview," I replied, trying to maintain my composure despite the rude greeting.
The receptionist rolled her eyes, dismissing me with a wave of her hand. "Sit and wait," she commanded, her tone leaving no room for argument.
I found a seat in the waiting area, my mind buzzing with a mix of determination and frustration. The inhospitable welcome didn't deter me; if anything, it fueled my resolve to prove myself in this new endeavor.
As I entered the interview room, my eyes fell upon a handsome face adorned with a boxy smile. He stood up, extending his hand, and introduced himself.
"Hello, I'm Kim Taehyung, Assistant to Jeon Jungkook, the CEO of Jeon Corporation. Nice to meet you," he said with a warmth that eased some of my nerves.
"Nice to meet you too, Mr. Taehyung," I replied, shaking his hand.
"Please, call me Taehyung. Let's keep it casual," he grinned, motioning for me to take a seat.
As I settled into the chair, he started with a genuine inquiry, "So, Jangfei, tell me a bit about yourself. What brought you here?"
I shared snippets of my past, my professional background, and my aspirations, trying to paint a picture of who I was beyond the resume.
Taehyung, with his attentive gaze, proceeded with a set of professional yet insightful questions. "How do you handle stress? Can you give an example of a challenging situation you've managed in the past?"
With a nervous smile, I recounted instances that showcased my ability to navigate pressure and challenges.
He nodded approvingly, diving into more specific queries about my skills and experiences. "What do you think are your strengths, and how can they contribute to our team?"
I spoke earnestly about my strengths and how they aligned with the responsibilities of the secretary role.
As the conversation flowed, Taehyung's boxy smile remained a constant, creating a comfortable atmosphere. He asked about my familiarity with the company and how I envisioned contributing to its success.
The final question lingered in the air, "Why do you want to work for Jeon Corporation?"
I took a deep breath, expressing my admiration for the company's values and my eagerness to be part of a dynamic team.
Taehyung leaned back, his smile unwavering. "Well, Jangfei, it seems like you'd be a great addition to our team. Welcome aboard."
A sense of relief washed over me as he extended his hand for a congratulatory shake. "Thank you, Taehyung. I look forward to working with you and Mr. Jeon," I replied with genuine gratitude.
"
Jangfei, welcome to the team! Would you like to start right away?" Taehyung asked with a friendly smile.
"Absolutely, I'm ready," I replied, my eagerness mingled with a hint of nervous excitement.
Taehyung took a moment to brief me on my tasks, providing an overview of the daily responsibilities as Jeon Jungkook's secretary. As he handed me a neatly organized dossier, he emphasized the importance of perfection, given Mr. Jeon's preference for meticulousness.
"You'll be working closely with Mr. Jeon, and he values precision. Be perfect in what you do, and you'll do great," Taehyung advised, his tone encouraging.
Nerves fluttered within me as the weight of the responsibility sank in. The prospect of working directly with Jeon Jungkook, a man known for his high standards, added an extra layer of pressure.
Taehyung continued to outline the tasks, detailing the intricacies of managing Mr. Jeon's schedule, handling communications, and ensuring everything ran seamlessly. His guidance was thorough, and he patiently answered my questions, providing insights into the nuances of the role.
"Remember, attention to detail is key. Mr. Jeon appreciates perfection, so let that be your guiding principle," Taehyung reiterated, his eyes reflecting a mixture of seriousness and warmth.
With a final nod, he excused himself, leaving me alone with the tasks and a sense of responsibility settling over me. The challenge was clear - to be impeccable in my role and leave a lasting impression on a man known for his exacting standards.
As I stood in front of the door, facing the man who demanded respect, perfection, and power, I knocked only to hear a deep voice commanding me to come in, sending shivers down my spine.
With trembling hands, I opened and closed the door, finding him gazing at the outside scenery through a large glass window. His hands were casually shoved inside his dress pants, perfectly complementing his grey tuxedo that screamed luxury.
I cleared my throat nervously and wished him a good morning, stuttering slightly. "Good morning, M--Mr. Jeon," I managed, cursing myself for the falter. I bit my lips in anticipation as he finally turned around, revealing an emotionless yet darkly handsome face. His eyes were deep black with a captivating shine, showcasing the power he held. Piercings adorned his eyebrows, adding to his alluring and dominating aura, intensifying my nervousness under his gaze.
I couldn't meet his gaze, feeling on the verge of panicking. Taking a deep breath, I looked up and offered a hesitant smile. "It will be my pleasure to be your secretary. Please forgive me if I make any mistakes," I bowed.
There was silence, only the echoing sound of footsteps as he approached. I lifted my head to find him getting closer, making my breath hitch and my heart skip a beat. I moved backward as his steps continued toward me, contemplating the situation I found myself in.
His intimidating gaze focused on my face, traveling from my lips to my eyes repeatedly. I felt myself pressed against the wall, my back against it, as he approached. "I think Taehyung already told you that I like perfection and exacting standards," his deep voice sent shivers through my nerves. He came even closer, his eyes landing on my trembling lips, making me more nervous.
"Yes, sir," I whispered, feeling my back against the wall. His eyes were fixated on my lips, and as he leaned down closer to my ear, I closed my eyes. "Be careful what you do from now on, because if you do something I don't like, it won't be good for you," he whispered, smirking as he pulled back. I opened one eye and saw him sitting in his CEO chair, looking for some papers.
"What is today's schedule, Ms. Wang?" his deep voice brought me back to reality as I fumbled with the papers, starting to explain today's schedule. This was going to be a challenging ride.
