chapter one

Jayson (VO) My name is Jayson Reynolds. I prefer "Jay", it's a nickname. I live in a small town named Silver Falls. My mom is Sheriff Susan Reynolds and my grandmother, Melissa Reyes, works at a café. And my Dad, Jake Reynolds, he's overseas occupied with military. I miss him every day. The last time I saw him was at my high school graduation.

I work at the Silver Falls Newspaper as a photographer. I take pictures of trees and landscapes. But my boss, Mr. Cheetam, he's an asshole and my pictures aren't quite enough for him. But I still get paid though. $200. For each picture I take.

SILVER FALLS NEWSPAPER INC.

That day, in Mr. Cheetam's office after Jayson taken some more pictures of what he usually takes; which Silver Falls itself.

[Jayson's Outfit]

Mr. Cheetam sits behind his desk, looking at Jayson's picture portfolio with a bored sign. "Your pictures are boring, Mr. Reynolds."

"I know they are, sir, but I have nothing else to take pictures of." Jayson told him.

"Do you love your job here, Mr. Reynolds?" Mr. Cheetam asked.

        "Yes, sir." Jayson told him.

"Then, I suggest you come up with something else, other than this . . ." Mr. Cheetam trailed off, showing him a picture of some trees and leafs. ". . . Boring crap. I'll give you a week to come up with something else."

           "Yes, sir." Jayson said.

Mr. Cheetam then, counts some money and hands it to Jayson $200 dollar cash. "Here you are."

Jayson gently takes the cash in his hand. "Thank you, sir."

"And stop calling me "sir", it's plain." Mr. Cheetam said, annoyed.

"Okay, Mr. Cheetam." Jayson said.

Mr. Cheetam smirks. "Much better. You're dismissed."

And Jayson walks out of Mr. Cheetam's office and walks over to his desk, putting his $200 cash in his green canvas messenger bag and walks away.

Driving up to the Silver Falls bank on his motorbike, Jayson puts in the $200 cash in his Chime card. Afterwards, he gets back on his motorbike and drives away.

JAYSON'S APARTMENT

After arriving at his neatly tidy apartment, Jayson cooks himself a microwave dinner, Lean cuisine pasta.

He sits on the couch and turns on the news channel. On the news channel is the Mayor Peter Carrington.

Jayson rolls his eyes, annoyed, with a dislike for Mayor Carrington. He changes the channel to a cartoon comedy marathon.

He small smiles to himself as he gets comfortable by leaning backwards on the couch and eats his Lean cuisine pasta with a fork.

Shortly after . . .

After eating his food and falling asleep after watching the cartoon comedy marathon, Jayson lays on the couch.

A gentle knock is on the door, which causes Jayson to wake up and turn off the TV and puts his Lean cuisine container in the trash can.

Jayson walks up to his door and opens it. He becomes surprised. Mavis Haddock is there.

[Mavis's Outfit]

       "Mavis?" a surprised Jayson said.

"Hi there, Jay." Mavis greeted him with a small smile. "I was wondering if you have time, would you like to go on a date with me at the café."

"Sure. I'd love to." Jayson told her with a smile.

SILVER FALLS CAFÉ

That afternoon, Jayson and Mavis are sitting at a round table. After ordering two flatbread deli ham, diced tomatoes and cheese sandwiches with sweet teas.

"So, how've you been, Jay?" Mavis asked him, taking another bite out of her flatbread sandwich.

"I've been pretty good." Jayson told her. "How about you? How's everything at Silver Falls Tech Center?"

"Everything's good." Mavis told him. "My Dad offered me the tech supervisor position."

"You're gonna take it right?" Jayson asked her.

"My Dad is Curtis Haddock, the boss and CEO of the Silver Falls Tech Center." Mavis reminded him with a conflicted expression on her face.

"I'm sure that your Dad talked to you about that." Jayson said to her.

"He did, but I don't want my colleagues to think I got the supervisor position because of my Dad, you know." Mavis said.

"Yeah, I get it. But you can't let it persuade you from not taking it." Jayson said. "You should take it, Mavis."

"Okay, I told my Dad I'll think about it, so yeah." Mavis said.

Jayson and Mavis exchange small smiles at each other.

And then, suddenly, it starts to rain outside, but something else statics the TV and everything else in the café.

"What the hell is going on?" Mavis asked, looking around.

"Don't know." Jayson said, not knowing himself.

"Can someone help me with the backup generators?" Jayson's grandmother, Melissa Reyes, asked from the kitchen.

"Mavis? I'll be right back." Jayson said, getting up and walks up to the back of the kitchen. "Grandma?"

Melissa Reyes looks at her grandson, Jayson. "Jay?"

Jayson tries to turn on the backup generators.

From outside, a cosmic storm appears from out of nowhere and rushes pass the café.

And the sudden impact causes the backup generators to spark and explodes, causing Jayson to fly backwards from out the kitchen and lands on the floor, unconscious.

"Jay?!" Mavis exclaimed, worriedly, scurrying up to him and crouches down beside him, gently laying his head in her lap. "Jay?"

Melissa Reyes quickly dials 911 on the telephone.

Mavis comforts an unconscious Jay, gently caress his cheek with her hand. "Jay? Stay with me. Stay with me, Jay."
