5 - Let's Get Away

"(y/n), get down!" my brother screams at me, as masked individuals with blasters approach us, firing at us senselessly.

My mother cradles me in her arms as we dive to the floor, my brother firing back at the attackers. Tears run down my cheeks as I fear for my life, squeezing my eyes closed in my mother's embrace. I scream as one of the attackers fire a shot at my brother's arm, making him wince and grasp his arm in pain.

"Ayzel!" I cry, desperately trying to free myself from my mother's grasp. All I wanted to do was run to him, but I couldn't. I see my mother shift glances between me, my brother and the four attackers advancing on us. I could see the wheels in her mind turning, deciding what to do. The tears start to fall faster as my mother pushes me aside and runs at the attackers. They throw a gas canister in front of me and my brother so we couldn't see where she had gone. The smoke erupts before us, and I could no longer see my mother anywhere.

I could see Ayzel stare at the cloud of smoke, his chest heaving up and down. I shake my head violently, realising what his next move was.

"Ayzel, don't. I beg you, don't leave me." I plead to him. Ayzel takes one look at me, staring into my eyes, an expression of pure heartbreak plastered on his face. He looks back into the smoke longingly. "Ayzel, DON'T!"

He doesn't listen. "I'm sorry, (y/n)."

Ayzel takes one last look at me and dashes off into the smoke. I let out a heart-wrenching scream as I watch my brother disappears for the last time. I sat there, alone, sobbing on the cold floor, my hands grasping my head as my body shook uncontrollably from devastation.

Then came the silence.

I stared out into the cloud of white smoke, which did not seem to clear. I sat alone, hoping, wishing, pleading that my brother and mother would miraculously emerge from the mist. That was until I heard two gunshots in the distance. My heart completely snaps in two and I scream yet again.

"NO!"

I woke up in cold sweat, my chest moving rapidly up and down, tears rolling down my cheeks. I frantically sat bolt-upright in my bed and brought my knees to my head, sobbing into them softly. It had been nearly a year since the murder of Ayzel and my mother, yet it still haunts me to this day. They had sacrificed themselves for me and died because of it. Their deaths were my fault, and that will weigh on my shoulders till the day I die.

It had been nearly a month since I began disguising as a Jedi, and fortunately it seemed to be working. Anakin has trained me every single day - sometimes with Obi-Wan also - and I had become quite close with Ahsoka, who visited me fairly often. Hiding like this was exhausting, and with the horrific nightmare I had last night, it was beginning to take a toll on me. I needed to get away.

This morning after my breakfast in my room with Ahsoka, I met up with Anakin, an idea in my mind. I sauntered into the room and stood behind Anakin as he spoke with Obi-Wan. I cleared my throat and the two Jedi turned to face me. A smile grew on Anakin's face as he saw me.

"Good morning, Princess. What can we do for you?" Obi-Wan said cheerily.

I took a deep breath, "I need to get away... a break if you will."

Obi-Wan and Anakin raise their eyebrows in amusement at my request. Anakin folds his arms ands looks into my eyes. "And where exactly do you have in mind, your highness?"

I thought for a moment, until the perfect place came to mind. I knew I couldn't return to Solaris without Sarin knowing, and Coruscant was becoming far too suffocating. I needed to be somewhere peaceful, where I didn't need to hide.

"Naboo."

Anakin exchanges a quick glance with Obi-Wan who strokes his beard and nods slowly in response.

"Well then let's get away," Anakin smirked, causing a smile to spread across my mouth.

Anakin and I set off as soon as the ship was prepped by Obi-Wan. I specifically requested no-one else followed us, and so Obi-Wan did not notify the Council, as I'm sure they would not approve of me leaving. I packed a few of my dresses with me, so I didn't have to wear my stuffy Jedi apparel anymore. On Naboo, I could be myself and I could enjoy the the little freedom I had left. The journey took less time than expected, and in no time we had arrived at Theed.

Whilst we were still on the ship, I changed out of my robes and into a beautiful flowery green dress I had brought with me. It just about reached the floor, and I had no problem with the short sleeves as my shoulder injury from the month before had luckily healed. I let down my hair from my braid and let it fall about on my shoulders. It felt good to be me again, and not the girl I was pretending to be.

{a/n : this is the dress I chose! I imagine greens, blues and pale yellows to be Y/N's signature colours and so I thought this dress would suit the sunny natural vibe of Naboo! }

Anakin was waiting for me outside of the ship. As I came out of the entrance and onto the ramp I could see his eyes widen and a smile crept onto his mouth as he watched me walk down to him.

{ANAKIN'S POV}

She was beautiful. I simply could not take my eyes off her and nor did I want to. I scanned her from head to toe, admiring how her hair fell about in soft waves, adoring how the golden sun made her skin glow, appreciating the gorgeous dress she was wearing, the colour complimenting her beautifully. She was stunning. Truly stunning.

She walked down to stand my me and I could barely get any words to come out of my mouth, her beauty making me at a loss for words.

"Princess, you look... you... just wow," I stammer, taking a look at her up close. I watched her blush and smile at me, which seemed like the first time she had ever smiled at me. I hold my hand out to her to help her down the last step and surprisingly, she takes it.

"Thank you, Skywalker," she smiled. My heart was pounding inside my chest as she squeezed my hands gently. I looked into her eyes and found myself getting completely lost in them... what was she doing to me?

I helped the Princess onto the ground and we walk over to the ship which was to take us to the house by the lake, which was generously given to us by an unnamed person. I found this a little suspicious, but (y/n) did have me to protect her and she did have her lightsaber with her also, so we should be fine.

Once we arrived, I helped her out of the ship and watched her take in the surroundings. I could see how her face lit up when she saw the lake, the deep blue water glistening in the sunlight. She wandered over to the stone patio, and rested her arms on the eroded pillars, staring out at the water.

"It's beautiful," she said in a soft voice.

Not as beautiful as you.

"It really is, Princess." I edged closer to her, testing my chances. She flinched as my robes grazed her bare arms and I gulped, afraid she would shy away again. I wanted to get closer, I felt like I needed to-

"(y/n)? Oh my gosh, (y/n) is it really you?" (y/n) moved away from me suddenly and turned around the other way to face the voice. In front of us, walking across the stone patio was my old friend, Padmé Amidala. I see a smile grow on (y/n)'s face and she rushes over to Padmé.

"Padmé!" (y/n) pulls Padmé into a hug, who giggled in happiness.

"Oh my goodness, it's been too long! How is Rokka and Ayzel? Are they here too?"

I see (y/n)'s smile fall and she pulls away from Padmé, directing her eyes to the floor. I think to myself, who is Rokka and Ayzel? (y/n) had never mentioned them before.

"They, uhh passed. There was an attack on Solaris and they... didn't make it."

An instant look of regret washed over Padmé's face. She quickly muttered an apology and pulled (y/n) back in for another hug, squeezing her gently. Once they pull away from each other, Padmé turns to me.

"Ani, is that you? My goodness, you've grown. You've become so handsome!" Padmé says to me, walking over and touching my arms. I smile at Padmé but look past her at (y/n) who was stood alone.

After all, how could I possibly focus on Padmé, when (y/n) is right there, forever capturing my attention?

I smiled at Padmé politely, "It's nice to see you too, Padmé."

(y/n) walked over to us, her green skirt dragging on the cobblestones behind her and took her place next to me, opposite Padmé. She turned to face the lake.

"What a beautiful place you have here, Padmé. It's just as how I remember it. Do you remember when our families used to meet, and you and I would go swimming in the lake?"

Padmé grinned at (y/n)'s recollection and placed her hand on hers. So they knew each other as younglings.

"I do. They were such good times... I truly am sorry about Ayzel and Rokka, (y/n). I would have visited if I knew."

"No, no, it's ok Padmé. Solaris has been in ruins since their death; it's simply too painful to see what Senator Sarin has done to my planet, so it's probably best you didn't come." Padmé squeezes (y/n)'s hand. She looks as though she was fighting back tears. It broke my heart to see her that way. Whoever Rokka and Ayzel were, they seemed to have been very important to her.

Padmé sighed and turned back to me, smiling widely. "So how have you been, Ani? Is Obi-Wan alright?"

I was confused at Padmé's sudden switch from (y/n) to me, I swear she had never been this interested in me before. I see (y/n) tense up a little, which only confused me further. Before I could answer her, (y/n) stepped forward and placed a hand on Padmé's arm and smiled at her.

"Padmé, would you mind giving us a tour? I'm dying to see the house and grounds."

Padmé nodded and linked arms with (y/n), who shot me one last beautiful look before walking off with Padmé, arm in arm.
