Cloud Watching 《1》

Before we begin this story, I would like to thank you all for your support, patience, and feedback on this story.

I want to express that I do not own the actual show Boondocks, and this story is purely made for fiction and entertainment.

Regarding several characters of this book, there will be several "out of character" moments, that are only for the sake of the plot to keep the story progressing.

Once again, regarding characters, that being the main character; Y/n, is to be pictured as a black girl.

This story is heavily influenced by the topics of "Slowburn" and "Childhood Love", so please do not expect anything that is out of childlike nature for them, unless it has occurred in the show.

Any form of artwork is not made by me but found via Pinterest, Twitter, etc.

Along with any realistic pictures.

That will be all, and once again, thank you.

Disclaimer: The book will contain offensive language, statements, themes, and mentions of triggering sorts. The chapters that contain such things will of course have warnings as you read.

Thank you.

"The court rules six to thirty-six years of imprisonment in federal-state prison, on the behalf of the child abuse, child endangerment, child neglect and runaway of a child, all of the third degree. Domestic violence of the third degree, as well. The bail for Ryan Marwood and Stella Marwood is 80,000 for Stella and 100,000 for Ryan. In the custody case of Y/n Nyx Marwood, the child will be in Maryland under the care of the family member, Otis Jenkins, and his sister Luna Jenkins. The whereabouts of the child will be classified to the knowledge of both parents until they have proven in their development classes and the child wishes to have contact with either parent. The case is dismissed."

The judge lifts the gavel and strikes the wooden surface at the end of his declaration to the crowd. A whirlpool of emotions surfaces in the room. A mother and father hung their heads in shame, as their lawyers' faces stayed bland as a desert. Only two genuine smiles lit the room like two fireflies in a dark forest.

Beyond the courtroom, in a building so cold the child shook endlessly. The only warming comfort she had was the stuffed penguin that smiled back at her frown. Compared to the girl's form, the penguin seemed to be what she took care of the most. Her sneakers were tattered and scuffed with dirt, drained from the bright pink and white color they once had.

The skirt she wore was dull blue that matched the dark purple of her jacket. On the very front of the jacket, fake diamonds were glued on, forming the shape of a heart, with several of the diamonds missing from the jacket. Along the sleeves were sewed hearts that faded from a dark yellow to a lighter hue. Due to its quality, several spots of uncared-for bleach marked the cloth.

The broken zipper to the jacket exposed the lime green tank top. Its color matched with the long ribbons, that were once in the design of bows but now long tails that lay at her back. The large curls of her hair seemed to fight against the ribbons, with curls of hair hovering over her face. They hid the large round doe eyes that bore into every person she looked to.

Down her legs were colors and cartoons drawn characters on bandages that attempted to hide every bruise and scar from any eyes. Even wrapped around her delicate fingers and the back of her hand. Her arms had the bandaids she was more fond of, as they had her favorite characters. However, the sleeves hid them.

The girl looked down at her penguin, its sewed smile managing to lift her frown ever so slightly. Suddenly, the thrust of forced open doors made her jump as her head turned to the left. Two faces she's seen only once, yet remembered each detail to them both.

A man who stood taller, but seemed to only be a few inches below the average height of the average man. His skin was tanned from its usual pale color. The color of his hair was the matching hue of dark brown as his loafers and eyes. His suit was a navy blue, that ended with a tucked-in white tie.

To his side was a taller woman, even without her heels she would tower over him. Her skin was pale and flawless, though a small mole dotted her upper right cheek. Her long raven hair swayed down to her hips, as she walked, she'd occasionally brush her slim fingers through her hair.

  Her nails were painted a deep red, that matched her lipstick color as well. She wore a long black dress that hugged her legs, yet exposed beyond her knees, and a red belt clung at her waist. The red was the same color as the heels that clicked along the tile floor, announcing her presence. Yet, no color resembled her bright green eyes.

The girl turned from them, lowering her head to her lap, to stare down at the penguin and sway her legs as the two came closer. "Oh, Y/n. What happened to your ribbons?" Asked the obvious feminine voice coming from the lady. Both of the adults kneeled and bent down to her height, yet she didn't dare to look them in the eyes. "They came apart, Miss Emerald..." The young girl whispered, the sound of her voice shaking like a skinny twig in the wind.

"Oh, dear, you can just call me Emerald, and you can call this gentleman, Marco," Emerald said with a smile. "Yes, there's no need for formalities hun. Do you know what that means?" Marco asked. Nodding her head, the little girl spoke; "I-It means to be formal in both quality and state.."

"You are very smart for an eleven-year-old. Your academic scores prove that." Marco chuckled as Emerald giggled. Yet, she didn't join their laughter, there was no reason for her to laugh. "Where's AJ? The staff members said I would be with my family soon, my brother isn't here...and I don't know where my parents are.." Her words shattered the hearts of the two. To do their job, a lie has to be twisted time from to time. Now, they wished they never said the lie at all.

Marco looked to Emerald with a look of worry and shame. Emerald was just another reflection of his expression. Emerald chose to explain first. "W-Well Y/n-" "They aren't here, are they?" She interrupted. The hurtful silence answered every one of the girl's questions. The girl's body gently trembled, as the streaks of tears ran down her cheeks, soaking the fabric of plush she held. Her soft whimpers and hiccups alerted the two adults. "Y/n, sweetheart, don't cry, please don't cry," Marco begged the girl as he gently lifted her head to him.

"We're sorry love, we truly are," Emerald said as brushed the curls of the girl's hair from her face, and gently caressed her thumb across her cheeks to rid of the tears. "T-Then where am I-I going t-to go..?" She whimpered. "Well, while the investigators look for your older brother, you'll be staying with your family in Maryland. That's why you have your things with you." Emerald explained, eyeing the small gray suitcase that held a yellow back upon it. Barley much was in both of them.

"I don't know anyone in Maryland. Where am I going to go? I don't want to go to foster care...I want to go home." Y/n told the two. "Well, it's funny that you say that because you do have two family members in Maryland, waiting on you as we speak. Do you remember your older cousins, Luna and Otis?" Marco asked you. Those names brought back joyous memories. Otis and Luna Jenkins, are two siblings that made it to their success. One in music and the other in fashion design.

The few times they visited Chicago they always made the girl's experience worthwhile. She can't forget them. "Yes, I remember them." A smile came to the adults' faces at the sound of her words. "Well, that's just great! Because they are waiting to take you in! Doesn't that sound nice?" Emerald asked. The girl's dull stare froze Emerald's smile. She knew deep down what the little girl truly wanted. She was smarter than she dared to let on.

The girl only nodded. Not a jump and cheer of joy. Not even the smallest smile to express it either. Only a nod. "Well...I'll go get the papers, and Marco will walk you to the chauffeur outside." Emerald stood up straight and hurried off to the front desk.

Marco sighed and turned his gaze to you. "Hey, Y/n." He called. The girl hummed in response to his call, surprisingly, her eyes stared right into his. "You wanna know what cheers me up when I'm upset?" He asked. The deafening silence made the man shake. "What's that...?" She asked.

Marco sighed in relief briefly before reaching into his pocket to take out a fairly sized piece of Hersey chocolate. "Candy!" He exclaims. That's when he caught it. A gentle smile and a glimmer of joy shined in her eyes. "Wanna share?" He asked. "Yes please..!" The eagerness in the girl's voice was hesitant but well received.

    Once the wrapper was off, Marco cut half of the sugary sweet with her. She happily thanked him and ate the sweet once it was in her hands. He couldn't put his finger on it, but this child specifically had him wrapped around her finger. Even the smallest smile she drew lit up a whole room.

    "Thank you again...Marco." She grinned. "Don't mention it, kid. Now, let's get to the car. Emerald will be out there any minute." Marco says, handing the girl her backpack. Without a word, she nods and puts on her bag, deciding to keep the penguin in her arms. Whilst Marco took the small suitcase in his arms.

    The two walked out of the building, to the world. Looking to the sky, the girl felt a sense of comfort at the sight of the abundance of fluffy clouds that basked in the sunset.

    She could remember just leaning on his shoulder, the wind being music to her ears as the sky was her entertainment. A stifled giggle uttered from her at the memory of what he claimed to see in the sky.

    "Y/n?" Emerald's voice called, as her hand hesitantly hovered over her shoulder. The girl shifted to her side to avoid her touch, an evident sign of reflex. She looked up to Emerald, whose eyes showed sorrow. "I'm sorry dear, I didn't mean to scare you. It's just that you were in a daze and.." Emerald bit her tongue as she spoke.

    The woman would sigh and clutch her briefcase in her grip. "Never mind that. Are you excited? If I can recall you've never been on a plane before." She says, the girl nodding in agreement. "Are you scared? I get quite nervous around heights." Emerald chuckles.

    "No..not really. AJ gave me Skipper for our first roller coaster together, so I should be fine.." The girl tells her. "How sweet of your brother. Perhaps I should do the same, hm?" She suggests. "If that will help you.." There was a shrug to the girl's shoulders in her reply, yet, she paused in thought. Dismissing the thought, the girl takes a step forward.

    "Marco is in the car already.." With her words, she continues into the car. Emerald huffs a dejected sigh. "I'm right behind you Y/n."

    The ride to the airport was ungainly. Marco was in the passenger seat, Emerald sat behind him, while Y/n sat behind the driver. With her gaze focused out to the window, eyeing the world. The two adults would make their attempt to converse with the young girl. The majority of her answers were short or met with a shrug. It ended once you decided to force yourself into the subconscious of slumber.

~~~~
    "Oh Y/n, it's time to wake up sweetie." The voice gently cooed. Her eyes fluttered open to find Emerald leaning over her with a hesitant smile. She bent inside from the girl's car side of the door, allowing a cool breeze of air into the car.
     "I'm sorry to wake you, but I know you don't like being carried. We're already at the airport and the jet is waiting for us." She told. Y/n would whine with a nod as she sat up to stretch her arms. Emerald pulled back and held out her hand to her.
    Without a second thought, she took Emerald's hand and stepped out of the car, eyes growing wide at the sight of the jet. Its entry door was wide open, with the steps displayed.
    Few men dressed in all-black suits scouted the area, one seemed to be on a phone call as his gaze was focused on the girl. One man was carrying the small suitcase into the jet
    She looked to Emerald, confused. "Why all of this...? Child Protective Services don't have the funds to afford private jets...or bodyguards." She said. Emerald hummed in agreement, nodding her head. "You are correct Y/n. But, your cousins both insisted that you and I ride in a private jet to Maryland. The guards are to keep you safe more than me." She chuckled at her joke.
    Yet, the girl didn't laugh. "I would want you to be safe too. And Marco." Her grip tightened around the penguin whilst little strength was added to the hand that held Emerald's. Emerald's eyes gently widened before sliming as she smiled. "Thank you Y/n. Oh, and Marco won't be joining us on the flight. While you were sleeping, he was called back to the office. So it's just you and me." She chirps.
    The girl nodded and tugged Emerald's hand along. "Then let's go." The girl walked at a simple pace, with the woman happily following at her side. Emerald's smile was an obvious definition of her enjoying the sudden change in Y/n's off mood. It seemed that just a little time and rest was all she needed.
    Once inside the jet, the two were star-struck with the entirety of its interior. The sleek freshness that waved across the entire plane brought the underlying fear of possibly getting something dirty. "Wow, you're cousins sure know how to do it big, wouldn't you say?" Emerald asked the girl. "Do it big? Isn't that when you party and drink alcohol with people in a foreign country?" Y/n asked in reply.
    "Uhm..well...yes. But that's not what I mean! We are most certainly not doing that! I mean your cousins just know to uhm-...accessorize?" Emerald wanted to cut out her tongue for saying something so stupid to a child who was smarter than her mouth on autopilot.
    Y/n stared at Emerald with her brow arched in confusion. "You can just say that they're rich. They won't care." Y/n's hold on Emerald's hand grew limp as she walked to the empty chair. The child happily took the window seat, and Emerald sat in front of her at the window seat as well.
    Emerald watched as Y/n placed her bag and penguin plush in the unoccupied chair next to her. "She's still just a little girl. I couldn't imagine what travels through that mind of hers." Emerald thought to herself. "Say, dear, when was the last you've eaten?" She asked her.
    "Uhm...four hours ago. Marco gave me candy." She told. "Ah yes, would like to eat something more fulfilling, hun?" Emerald asked, truly feeling quite peckish herself. "No, I'm fine. I'm just tired. Is it okay that I sleep?" she said, already leaning her chair back and zipping her jacket further up her chest for warmth.
    "O-Oh. If you want to, go ahead love." Emerald watched as the girl yawned and muttered a soft "Goodnight," Before closing her eyes.
~~~~

    "What clouds do you see Nyx?" The boy asked the girl as she toyed with the stuffed plush in her lap. She followed the boy's gaze, seeing fat fluffy clouds gently swaying in the clear sky. Squinting at the sight of them to see any form of something. Yet, nothing came to mind. "Uh...a cloud?" She answered.

    The boy snickered before cackling a raspy laugh. "No shit sis, it's a cloud. But look at its shape one more time dummy." She would huff to her older brother's words and eye the sky once more. Relying on the little creative imagination she had, she managed to spot a cloud in the shape of a heart.

~~~~
  Turning on her back, with her eyes fluttering open to blinding light from the open window. "Morning already...?" The girl said aloud as she yawned, stretching out her back one last bit. Looking ahead, she spoofed the was pulled out, set with a fresh white cloth and breakfast meal for two.
Yet, the second person was nowhere in sight. "Miss Emerald?" The girl called out, looking to her sides, rising in her chair.
    "Miss Emerald?" The girl called once more, bringing her knees onto the chair as she turned to look behind her to find Emerald making her way with a tray of cupcakes in hand with a bottle of the finest apple cider. "Oh dear, you're awake. I'm sorry that I wasn't here when you woke up, love." She told, her tone comforting the slight worry the girl hid. "It's okay. Why do you have those?" She asked, returning to a proper sitting position.
    Emerald took her seat across from her, plaiting down both the try and bottle. "Well, I found out that you and I both have a sweet tooth, which is why I brought cupcakes. The cider is for you since one of the waiters gave you the wine glass and gave me an empty one." She told, switching the glasses, but not before pouring a fair amount of cider for the girl to drink.
    Placing it by the girl's plate, she mumbled "Thank you" as she hesitantly reached for her fork. "Of course. Now, eat up. I know those cupcakes look tasty, but a balanced breakfast is important." Emerald giggled, happing cutting into her streak. Y/n looked to the tray that held four large cupcakes, two vanilla, and two chocolate. The frosting of all cupcakes was pure white, all decorated with a fruit slice. The strawberry and mango one took her interest in taste.
    Wanting the treat as soon as possible, she proceed to eat the meal consisting of eggs, maple bacon, and three fluffy pancakes, drizzled with syrup and whip cream. Emerald watched as the girl's eyes widen in delight at the goodness of the food as she ate. "Don't eat too fast, love. I don't want you to choke when we're only a few hours away." With her words, the child nodded and slowed her pace in eating.
    "Only a few hours away." Looking out the window, viewing a clear blue sky, the sight of two clouds in the shape of hearts made her smile.
~~~~

    Finding herself with her knees perched on the sleek black leather of the black limo, and her hands pressed against the car door as she gazed out the tinted window. Eyeing whatever came past. Gawking stares from people, stores she'd dream to ever step foot in, groups of children laughing together, and much. All things, she never was accustomed to. Yet, the bubble of fear battled with her excitement.

    "I see that you're excited, Nyx." The girl turned to Emerald surprised, yet her expression read otherwise. "I-I'm sorry, your middle name is mixed around, and on one of your files, you only wrote your middle name. I apologize if I crossed any boundaries. I'm just very fond of its uniqueness." Emerald profusely sputtered, whispering another apology.

     Y/n would shrug and sigh. "I accept your apology. It's okay though, you can stop saying sorry. You do that a lot." How the child's tone was so soft yet scolding confused her. How could a child bear so much control?

    "Yes, I do that. I've never been this apologetic or jumpy, if I may be honest. But, never mind me, how are you feeling? Are you excited?" Emerald asked. The girl stroked the penguin plush with a dull gaze focused on the window.

    "I don't know. I'm happy to see them, and I know why I'm here. I just don't know how to feel about it. So, eh." Ending her statement with a shrug she turned to Emerald. "Well, I want you to know, that this is for the best and that everything from here will be something you never dreamed of." The gentle smile on Emerald's face sparked the belief of hope inside her.

    Without saying a word, she looked down at her plush, not noticing the sudden slow pace the car was coming to. "Ah, and just like that! We're here!" Emerald beamed, snapping off her seatbelt and collecting her purse and clipboard.

     With sudden eagerness, the girl forced on her backpack, not caring to adjust the straps, and tucked the plush underneath her arm. Both doors were opened by two tall men dressed in all-black suits and fearless scowls marked on their faces.

    As she stepped out of the car, she squinted her eyes at the glowing light from the sun. Once her vision settled, she took in the scenery. Tall healthy trees with long firm branches that carried large green leave, occasionally birds cooed and flew around the area.

    Fresh cut grass that carried an abundance of healthy flowers, especially blooming begonia flowers. Bushes were trimmed into the shapes of dollar signs, even decorated with alstroemeria flowers.

    To the side of the car, was a large fountain entirely made of pure white marble and gold, towering the fountain was a rage gold statue of a man. He stood proudly, with his arms stretched out wide, a microphone in one hand and money in the other. At his legs were tigers, resting at his feet. It was all purely made of gold. Just from the appearance of the man, and the familiar chain around his neck, you knew who that was.

    "Wow, your cousin sure knows how to flaunt his riches," Emerald said as she approached you, holding the handle of your luggage. "Uh..yeah I guess so." She replied, gently taking her luggage from her. Turning her gaze back to the house, gawking at the massive building.

    On the clean steps, leading to the house, two butlers and two maids all stood tall with their hands behind their backs. A hand full of people joined them on the steps, excited as could be. Then, they stepped out. Otis and Luna Jenkins. There was an obvious difference between the siblings. One walked with a prideful smile, and the other strutted with a resting glare matched with a frown. Yet, today, she smiled.

    Otis as always, towered over his sister, as she only ever managed to reach his shoulder. Her heels made her seem just a bit taller. "Y/N!!" Otis shouted, hurrying down the steps with Luna behind him. "Otis! Luna!" The girl cheered, dashing halfway to the two. Midway, she leaped into the arms of Otis who spun the girl before tossing her briefly in the air and catching her. Her laughs sang like doves to their ears.

    "About time yo ass got here! Damn, you got bigger." Otis laughed, hoisting the girl up higher in his arms. "Obviously Otis, the last time we saw her, she was eight. Ah, but you look so cute!" Luna cooed, gently pinching her cheek, making sure her acrylic nail didn't near your eye. She only smiled and laughed, gently swaying her feet in excitement. "Thank you, Luna." She beamed.

    The three looked genuinely happy. The joy of togetherness radiated from them just smiling and sharing laughs for a brief moment. "Excuse me?" Emerald pipped, catching their attention again. "Oh, you must be Emerald, nice to finally meet you in person." Luna greeted, bringing a smile to her face.

    "You the CPS lady I spoke on the phone with, right?" Otis asked. "Yes, that was me Mr. J- uh- Mr. Thugnificent. I just wanted to say I have to have a mandatory conversation with you and Luna once Y/n is settled in her room. She can join if she wants." Emerald said, looking to you.

     "What you wanna do cuz? You can go up to your room and look around if you want." Otis suggested. The girl wondered for a moment before nodding to his suggestion. "Yeah, I'll just head to my room." You said.

    Otis nodded and turned to the stairs, whistling a call to the butlers and maids. "Ey, y'all come 'get her stuff and get her to her room. Take the guest to the office or something. You drink 'Henny?" Otis asked Emerald as he placed his niece onto her feet.

    "Uhm?" Emerald said stunned. "Dumbass, you can't serve a CPS worker Hennessy on the job." Luna scolded. The banter between the two siblings didn't take long to rise, confusing Emerald but bringing Y/n to laugh. One of the butlers passed with her luggage, and a maid tapped the girl's shoulder, beckoning her to follow her.

    She'd nod and look at Emerald with a smile. "It was nice knowing you Emerald, goodbye." Just before the woman could wish the girl goodbye, her back faced her as she made her way to her new home.

~~~~
    "Aren't you excited young one? A fresh new start." The maid beamed. "Uhm...kinda? I've only lived with Otis and Luna back in Chicago for just a few days during vacations...it wouldn't be very long." You told her as she stood by the doors to the house.
     "Yes, Thugnificent and Luna mentioned you both-" She paused with a gasp. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to mention-" "It's fine, I don't care. I just wanna get inside now.." You interrupt, dreading to hear another apology.
    "Yes, allow me." The maid would open the doors to the house, then stand at the door waiting for you to enter first. "Please, after you." With her words you walked inside, to be absolutely amazed at the sight.
    "Woah..." Was the only word you were able to muster at the sight. The bright chandeliers glowed on the white marble of the floor. The sun beamed through the bright windows, reflecting a glow on the glow of the chandeliers. "Luna had the mansion redecorated before your arrival. She explained the original decor was unfit for a child. Do you prefer this?" The maid asked.
    "I'm not used to anything like this.." You started, still starstruck in awe. "But it is very pretty, I like it." You answered. The maid nodded with a smile before walking ahead. "Follow me lil'nificent, I'll show you your room." You nodded and gripped the plush tighter in your arms as you followed her up the stairs.
    At least three cases of stairs had to be walked to get to your room, you were silently thankful you had to walk to school with your brother when taking the bus or being dropped off wasn't possible.
    Once you and the maid made it to the fourth pair of double doors, that were just as large as the others. The handles were glowing gold that matched the gold-plated letters that were on both doors. It was the first letter to your name. "Thugnificent thought it would be easier for you to find your room with the letters. I say it is quite a nice touch." The maid says. "He couldn't stop making changes when the news of your arrival was confirmed. It was sweet, they are crazy about you." She giggled.
    You could feel a flush of embarrassment swarm you at her words. Of course, it was excepted by them, just hearing it out loud was embarrassing. "That is nice...Uhm..can I go in?" You asked. "Why of course you can dear, why, it is your room. Do the honors." The maid said, guiding your hands to the the door handle. It was cold against your palm but immediately warmed due to its warmth. Pulling it downwards, you pushed the door forward, the left one following in the process.
Stepping inside, you felt your legs freeze as your thoughts stopped.
    Just with a quick glance, you sprinted further inside, tossing the plush and bag onto your bed, a giggle of joy sung from you. You ran to the hammock chair that hung from the ceiling. You happily sat in it, and giving yourself a slight push to swing.
"Well, I see you have a favorite spot in your room." The maid teased. "I've never had one of these before! The closet was a tire swing in the park across the apartments." With a swing of your legs, you hopped down from the chair, feeling the high of excitement settle in, at a more reasonable level for you.
    "There's a park around the neighborhood. I can take you wherever you'd like." The maid told. "Maybe later, I want to look around for a bit...is it okay if I do it, alone?" You sheepishly asked. "Why of course it is. I and the others will be around if you need anything." You nodded and watched her leave, the doors automatically shutting behind her. Once you felt that she was completely gone, you jumped into your bed face-first into the soft pillows.
    A scream of overwhelming emotions ripped from your throat and into the pillow, with your legs kicking in the air. Rolling onto your back, a sigh of joy left your lips. You couldn't help but feel this way. Even with your joy and fear battling one another, a smile was still on your face as you stared at your smooth ceiling.
    "I like this...I think he would like it too." You said to yourself. The smallest pin of disappointment burst your bubble of hoy. It wasn't going to be the same without him here. It angered you how he disappeared, leaving so many questions you had unanswered, but you knew he wasn't the type to do anything for no reason. You couldn't help but feel the twisting anger and sadness as you rolled out of your bed. Perhaps washing your face will relax your nerves.
    Guessing where your bathroom could be in your massive room was a success, at the same time a shock.
    Sprinting into the bathroom with a smile, you stood in front of a large mirror that glowed brighter in your presence. No matter the marks on your face from your tears or the cut to your eyebrow, you still smiled in delight.
    Turning around to see the large bathroom, you could just imagine the warm water and soothing bubbles on your skin. A spa was something you dreamed of having. AJ and you would just play with bubbles in the bathroom and nap after eating the slices of cucumbers. Giggling bitterly at the memory, you went back to the sink to splash cold water on your face.
    The fluffy white towels that were displayed for your use were so soft. You practically hummed to its feelings against your face. Looking around the bathroom once, your smile stayed as you left.
    Now, the closet!
    Walking across your room to the next two double doors, humming a random tune that rhymed to you. Opening the doors, you gasped.
    "Damn...this is so much!" Astonished at the massive space, and few clothes that were placed. Just from one look, you could see how expensive the few outfits were. Gucci, Channel, Louis Vuitton, and more.
    Jewelry stands and boxes were prepared for any accessory you treasure inside of them. Only if you had any to do so.
    None the matter, it's best to set up whatever you had in the open spaces of your closet.
~~~~

    The five adults stood by the entrance doors, their voices in a hushed tone. It was unnecessary considering the fine thickness of the walls.

    Emerald stood by the open doors, with her briefcase and clipboard in hand once again. "Again, don't hesitate to call whenever you need guidance, information, or any of the sort. I will be excepting a monthly check-in on Y/n in trade for her parents' whereabouts. Understood?"

    Otis and Luna would nod with dull, drained expressions. Endless paperwork and writing, with some berating, was quite tiresome for the two adults. "Yes, we understand. We'll start right away." Luna huffed in irritation, rubbing her fingers against her temple. Her partner, and Otis's close friend, Macktastic, placed a comforting hand on the small of her back. Willingly, she leaned into his touch, it being almost a habit to her.

    "Yeah, we know what to do. Safe flight and shit. Make sure they make out this bitch." Otis ordered the butler. The man nodded and ushered Emerald from the doors to her chauffeur. Slamming the door shut, the rapper huffed in exhaustion, palming the back of his neck to ease the stiffness. "I need a damn drink. We can do shopping for Nyx tomorrow." Luna declared, stomping off further into the mansion before the two men could give their own input to her early drink.

    Macktastic looked to Otis, surprised by the drained look on his face. "You know, she's only here temporarily." He spoke. Otis smacked his teeth before grinding them at the reminder. "Nigga, I know. I don't need to hear yo' damn, "spiritual" talk on kids or some shit. I know what I'm doing." He snapped.

    "No, you don't. Neither does Luna. No one in this damn house knows how to raise a damn kid. Especially when it was supposed to be two kids! How do you think you're gonna handle that?" His words were cutting to Otis. His silence answered every question without a second doubt. "That's what I thought. It's not like she's going to be here forever." He sighed, even upset with his own words.

    Mack didn't hold any anger or hatred toward the girl. There was no reason for him too. He just knew the truth of her situation, and what was to come of it. Looking at his friend, seeing his gaze was fixated on the floor, with the only hope being his last string of belief.

Otis only straightened his posture, his eyes fixated on the stairs before them. A burning passion glowed in his eyes. It was familiar with the look he gave to their music, but it was completely different. This just wasn't about a record label or a song that'll be on top of the charts. This was about her.

"I'll find a way."
