"y/n! We're going to be late!" You heard your mom shout your name.

You woke up, your eyes opening slowly, forgetting for a split second where you were. A deep yawn left your mouth, your hair was a mangled mess. You turned to your side where there was a large window showcasing the outside world. The window was slightly open but you could still feel the freezing cold hit your bare skin.

You laid in bed not wanting to move, almost scared to.

"y/n!" she called,

"I'm coming, mom!" you yelled in response. Slowly, the rush of reality slapped you in the face as you tried to reach for your phone. You finally got a hold of the device, only to find that there weren't any notifications

6:58, are you kidding.

You groaned to the sound of cars passing and people chatting. You jumped out of bed and walked to the window, the clouds gloomy and dark almost like it was going to pour any second.

You could smell the dirty streets of Paris as you shut the window, your gaze shifting back to the bed. From the corner of your eye, you could see the stacks of brown cardboard boxes in a corner.

I really have to unpack

With every step you took, the cold hardwood floor hit the sole of your feet. Lately, everything just seemed to want to swallow you whole. Nothing had meaning anymore... not since the accident.

"Look who finally made an appearance." your mom chuckled.

"Ya." You forced a giggle as you jumped on top of the stool. You sat near the island countertop where your face fell, causing you to fidget with your fingers. Those small actions, though tiny, didn't go unnoticed by your mom from where she was leaning on the counter, sipping her coffee.

Everything felt like a cookie jar. No matter how many times I refilled it, a void always seemed to make its way into my heart. I've tried plastering a smile on my face but it was like a black cat would run past me giving me bad luck.

"Are you ready for today?" she asked, trying to change the energy.

"What are we doing today?" you furrowed your eyebrows, lifting your head back up.

She pointed at you as she drank her coffee, hiding a grin, "You mean, what are you doing today."

"Oh no. I am not going to that place again, that was embarrassing." you face palmed your forehead, "After da- " Your eyes fluttered as your mom looked at you, your smile faded. You quickly looked at her attempting to hide your pain.

"Why do I have to go this early, it's 7 am." you complained, rolling your eyes slightly and forcing another smile.

You tried your best to be real, but everything was forced. Putting on a show was like a constant punch in the face, but the truth is that was all you could do. And all that pain just added to the growing bruise left behind by the loss of someone you loved.

Was this really what my life has become, fake smiles and lost thoughts?

"You're not going back to the Library." she said, placing her cup on the counter and keeping her eyes on you.

"What? Then why did you wake me up so early?" Your eyes darted towards the woman.

Your eyes widened, a gasp leaving your lips as she spoke, "You're going to school."

"Nope, no I'm not." you plastered on a grin as you stood up and marched out of the room, your mom following. "Where I'm going is back to bed, good night."

"You're going." she demanded, on your heels.

"No." she glared at you, "I'd rather go back to the library, I need it."

"You're banned from the library after the incident where you dropped the shelves."

"It wasn't on purpose and I apologized." you snickered as you jumped back into bed.

"Come on y/n, you're going to be meeting new people. This would be good for you, plus it'll be fun." She reasoned you began to cover your head with the sheets that laid across your bed.

"How would that be fun? Hanging around annoying people who stare and criticize your every move is not fun." You exclaimed underneath the thick fluffy blankets.

"y/n" She sighed, your mother sat by the end of the bed. "I know it's hard but you can't keep cutting people out of your life. Ju- Just please go." Her tone was thin, afraid to push her limit.

You heard the pain in her voice when she spoke, you popped your head out of the sheets. Your mother's gaze fell on the window then back to you, where you gave a small smile.

"For me?" She let out a weak grin. "please?"

"Fine." She began to rub your foot, a tear ran down her face. "But just because you said please." you joked causing your mother to share a brief chuckle.

After the accident, moving to another country was harder than expected. Mom has been trying to cheer me up, trying to make a fresh new start. Since then, it's only been me and my mom.

"Thank you." She stood up, "get ready for school." She pushed your hair behind your ear and leaving a kiss on your forehead.

"Come talk to me after you're done, I'll be in the living room." She mumbled, your mother smiled before she closed your bedroom door.

But we've been making it work, she tries to be strong and happy for me but I could hear her sobs at night. She hides her pain and lies which hurts.

You pulled yourself out of bed and made your way towards the shower. Entering the steamy hot shower, it burned your back to which you felt every bit of pain.

You quickly finished your shower making your way towards your closet. Forgetting it was empty, you grab the first thing at the top of the cardboard box.

You tried on some old worn-out mom jeans and an oversized graphic t-shirt. You looked in the mirror,

ugh, why do I look like that. I- I shouldn't wear that. It looks fine, right? I'm overthinking this, just... be confident.

You sighed, as you grabbed black converse and walking towards the living room, you looked down at your phone.

no notifications, nothing.

Your mother dashed past you, you flicked your head up to the sound of her voice. "Okay, I'm leaving." Your mother quickly grabbed her bag.

"Wait, where are you even going?" You questioned, a worried expression appeared in your eyes.

"I'm going to meet my new boss," She replied. "This creep wants me to meet him at his house." Your mother playful stuck out her tongue causing you to laugh.

"Weird."

"I know right, but if you need anything just text me?" She looked at her watch, making sure she wasn't running out of time.

"Wait how am I getting to school?" You walked to her, her phone chimed causing all her attention to fall to the notification.

"Walk or something, I don't know. Take the metro!" She muttered as she stared at her phone. Your mother ran towards the door as her eyes widened.

"Mom of the year!" You sarcastically cheered, she giggled.

"I left the Euros on your countertop, along with some of the paperwork the school gave me. I got to go, bye love you." She exited the house before you could reply.

"bye mom... I love you" you softly mumbled to yourself.

Am I really entering into something I don't know what I'm getting into? What is this school even called?

You looked at the folder that was laying on the counter where mother informed you it would be. "Collège Françoise Dupont? Why... Did I agree to this." you groaned, you put in the address on your phone.

I don't even have a backpack, what do I do?

You ran to your room and grabbed a black old book bag from a raggedy cardboard box.

This should do.

You put the folder and the euros your mom left in your bag, you quickly ran out of the house.

You made your way towards the school not paying attention to anything around you. The breezy fresh air hit your skin causing you to shiver.

What do I do when I get there? I didn't see a schedule in the folder, should I go to the office then? Right?

What's the worst thing that could happ-

Before finishing the thought you bumped into a blonde charming boy causing you to fall hard to the floor.

Shit spoke too soon.

He was tall and handsome, Your eyes glistened to the sight of his green eyes. He had eyes that spoke of all things newborn in the spring, of a soul that remained ever-young.

They say green is the strongest color because it ignites the new season after the passing of wintry days, and in that, his eyes were born strong, the green hue reminding me of sunshine and floral blooms.

"uh, sorry." you stammered,

"it's okay." He smiled holding out a hand. Your hand reached out only inches from his touch, before taking his hand someone pushed the boy.

"Ugh, who are you?" A blonde perky girl interrupted your touch with the boy. You got up yourself and ignored her question. "And what are you wearing? You look like you bought your clothes from a thrift store."

I did.

"Uh, I'm talking to you." The boy looked at her, you tilted your head. "Ugh whatever, Come on Adrikins, you shouldn't be around this homeless girl." The young blonde pulled the boy by the elbow as they both made their way up the stairs.

The boy looked back at you as the blonde girl settled with her friends, you smiled at the boy as did the boy.
