Audre Blessing was an angel to the world around her. living in a world of rose petals and unanswered dreams, she seemed to float through life. a world where nothing affected her or even touched her. she was out of reach of the outside world. a virgin suicide in the making. she would stare out of her balcony, heart-shaped sunglasses on, viewing the world as if it were her kingdom. all her peers loved her, her teachers adored her, and her siblings idolized her. but Audre knew better than everyone, that to truly be a blessing (both figuratively and literally) she must be perfect. she must never sabotage the fragility of her empty existence.

Neil Perry was raised in the same world. Welton's golden boy certainly lived up to his name. clever and well behaved, he embodied everything the perfect son should be. unlike Audre, however, Neil's flawlessness was a facade easily broken. as if it were simply as delicate as a stained ashtray. he cautiously toed the line between right and wrong. muttering disagreements under his breath, standing his ground and taking risks, much to the chagrin of those around him. he, after joining the dead poets society was on a road less taken, a road that no one desired him to take, a road of his own. 

and that's where Audre came in. Mr Perry and Mr Blessing produced a foolproof plan, pushing Audre and Neil together for them to become the cookie-cutter, all American couple. Jackie and John Kennedy of Vermont. it would protect both the men's assets and secure their future generation. what they did not count on though was Neil and Audre rescuing each other. Neil rescues Audre from her gilded tower and Audre rescues Neil from his. because both must learn that to truly "carpe diem" you must do so with another person. a person who you must genuinely love.
