How long has it been, Kageyama wondered. Perhaps two months, no, three..or was it four? He didn't know anymore, the constant cycle of sun rising and going down had become an unimportant part of his daily life.

Of course, as a human, he should follow the sun, right? And he did, for the first month he kept track of all the days, carving a line into a tree each morning, but soon it became a luxury. The "hunt season", as Hinata described it, had started and the two were busy setting up traps for clueless jungle animals.

Somewhere in a midst of the second month they moved. Hinata wasn't happy with the place anymore and the two of them ventured further into the jungle. Hinata was an expert at finding amazing hidden places, little paradises so Kageyama had zero worries.

In the time they spent travelling, Kageyama got to know Hinata even more - he was mesmerized by him. He was an enigma, he didn't talk much, he focused on his goals and yet he was so warm.. he taught Kageyama everything he could. The other couldn't help but adore Hinata and his adorable little shenanigans, Hinata blossomed like the most beautiful flower now that he had someone to interact with.

During the storms, Hinata would stay close to Kageyama, comforting him, keeping him warm and safe. It was around this time..no, it was during one specific event when Kageyama realised the actually had feelings for the boy. It was a rainy day, well more like rainy week, and Kageyama was beginning to get gloomy.

As much as he liked thunderstorms, being trapped in a small hut just watching the rain fall was getting more and more depressing. That's when Hinata dragged him out of hut, he could feel the sadness radiating.

They danced in the rain, they found themselves running on the damp jungle floor, chasing eachother, they drank water straight off of leaves and experienced life in its greatest form. There was no need for electronics, no need for any sort of fake entertainment - at that moment they were enjoying their life to the fullest. Seeing the smile on Hinata's face, feeling the warmth of his hand - it made Kageyama's heart quiver..but was it okay to like him?

It should be okay, right?

Kageyama now knew what it was like to be an animal, just like humans truly are. He was more capable than he thought. At this point, he didn't even want to go home. This was his home. This jungle, the damp floor, the tall trees and animals - this felt right.

Speaking of various animals, he got along with them better than he had expected. Monkeys were the best, in his opinion, leading the two towards various sources of food, relying on them for warmth, interacting with them whenever they had the chance. Of course, he did come face to face with some preditors like jaguars. He stared one right in the eyes as they stood a stream apart from eachother, but the big cat didn't attack.

Perhaps, most surprising to Kageyama was to find sloths just hanging around. Their fur is much harder than it seems.

Hinata could easily climb up trees and pick whatever he needed, he could run and swim really fast, so naturally Kageyama was in the disadvantage regarding the physical stats. However, he did put up clever traps, could track animals and recognize which one left trails, which proved to be very great skills in their situation. They were the perfect duo, feasting day to day, gathering and enjoying the wonder of the earth.

Even now, Kageyama was sitting on the ground, watching the sun set through the trees. Hinata walked up from the behind and sat down next to him, putting his head on Kageyama's shoulder. The taller male blushed slightly, experiencing the most natural reaction. He decided that this was his chance, it was time to do something. He looked down at their hands and slid his palm onto Hinata's smaller one, intertwining their fingers. For a moment there, Hinata was a bit confused, but the redness of Kageyama's cheeks made everything obvious.

He shuffled even closer, holding Kageyama's hand and listening to the sounds of the jungle... and Kageyama's heartbeat. It was calming, almost hypnotizing. Thump, thump, thump....

This was home.

This was okay.

This was love in it's purest form.
