CHAPTER EIGHT
| the assassins order
Julina woke up to an empty bed, she had felt the unbearable betrayal when she did.
Her eyes wandered around the room, trying to ease her hurting heart. She saw the lion on Robb's face at their ceremony, he seemed happy, he seemed in love. Perhaps she had been dreaming and Robb had been disgusted by marrying a Lannister. Maybe she was only blind.
With a sigh she stood up and grabbed her nearest coat and put it on. The sun was lightning the chambers to the point Julina had to cover her eyes.
There was no reason to be sad, not at a day like this.
"My Queen?" Said a voice that Julina recognized instantly.
Julina turned around and pulled her coat tighter around her body, "Call me Julina Katya. I have told you this," she said meekly, trying to get her mind off of her morning.
Katya glanced at the bed, probably expecting to see the king sleeping. She glanced back at her and sent her a pitying smile which Julina wished she did not. She only wanted to forget.
"Why don't we take a walk Julina? It is the perfect weather,"
Julina thought about it, not in the mood to walk outside where everyone could see her. But she merely shook her head and made her thoughts vanish.
Maybe a good walk was exactly what she needed.
━━━
"Julina!"
Julina and Katya turned around at the sound of the shout. They had been walking for a good couple of minutes before stopping at Wintertown.
They had met the people of Winterfell, some were nice and some other were rather . . . bashful. But her heart had warmed when she saw a child waving at her excitedly. She had waved back and given her mother a few coins to help her and her daughter.
"Robb?" She questioned confused. Why was he here? But the cold bed made it through her mind again, forcing her to remember that he had left her all alone.
He let out a strong breath after riding fast on his horse. It seemed like he was in a hurry to see her.
"You cannot just give me such a fright. I am more then happy to escort you to Wintertown,"
Julina furred her brows, "Katya accompanies me along with two Stark guards," she said pointing to the two guards standing a couple of steps behind her.
"I will be more assured on your safety if you were with me," Robb tried. It seemed like he was afraid of her well being. Why did she wake up alone in their bed after all the connection Julina thought they had?
"I missed you in the morn," Julina said simply, her arms crossed over her chest.
Robb's face turned confused before a moment got conflicted. "I'm sorry for leaving. I had an important issue to discuss with the lords,"
Julina mentally cursed herself. And all those accusations for nothing? She had been stupid, expecting Robb to despise her when he was clearly trying to make her more comfortable.
Her face got red but hid it, "Of course, I understand,"
"Walk with me?" Robb asked, extending his arm out for her to take. She nodded and accepted the gesture and locked her arm on his. Katya walked behind them, just a few steps further from the guards.
"I'm sorry for bothering you with my small complaints," Julina said, her voice small as they looked at the people who bowed and nodded for their King and Queen.
Robb let out a laugh, something Julina found she enjoyed hearing immensely much. "You could never bother me with your small matters. All your complaints matter to me," he said.
He looked at her, "I know neither of us wanted his marriage, but I promise for as long as you are my wife, that I will honor and love you,"
Julina felt her heart stop. She blinked, staring at him with tears threatening to fall. She pushed them back. "Robb I-"
She screamed. All around her was chaos and Julina was clutching her arm as the blood run through her dress. Robb held her tightly trying to cover her for other arrows.
"Find him, and bring him to me!" Robb ordered, his hands still around Julina, careful not to touch her injured arm much.
Robb put his hand on her face making her face him and look at him in his desperate eyes. "You will be alright Julina,"
Julina nodded and pressed her lips tightly as another rush of pain ran through her arm. She knew she was going to live, but that didn't ease her growing pain.
"My king, we need to bring you both back to Winterfell fast. There may be more assassins trying to hurt the Queen," a guard explained hastily, his arm holding his sword.
Robb nodded. He helped her up and made her lean to him. "Can you walk?"
Julina let out a dry chuckle, "I was hit in my arm not my legs,"
Robb cracked a smile before his eyes went to her wound again. His eyes hardened and ordered guards at her side.
He would kill whoever ordered her death.
━━━
"The assassin was a poor archer. If he had been good he had shot the Queen through her heart," Lord Glover retorted. The Lord had grown fond of his Queen for her un-Lannister personality.
"The question is who ordered the assassin to try and kill my wife," Robb questioned sharply, his eyes staring daggers into Lord Karstark's head. He was obviously hinting at him.
The Lord noticed and huffed, "She would've deserved to be hit, could've saved our people a good deal lot,"
It was quiet. No one dared to utter one word as they knew how fond their King was of his wife.
Robb sat still, his hands gripping the arms of his chair tightly. "What did you say?" He growled out, trying to contain his anger.
Lord Karstark didn't turn his gaze away from him. "I said she deserved to die, your Grace,"
It all now made sense, his hatred for Julina, the way he talked about her. Lord Karstark was the one who paid the assassin to murder Julina. The thought made Robb see red. Julina was not like the Lannister's. She is kind and lovely. She would never hurt anyone, yet there sits a man, willing to kill an innocent girl for the crimes of her family. The Gods would know if Lord Tywin would hear of this.
"Are you saying it was you?" He questioned sharply, standing up and walking towards his seat at the table.
"Did you send an assassin for my wife?" Robb tried again, questioning him carefully.
Lord Karstark stood up, causing the other Lords to as well in fear of their King. The lord didn't care and continued to stare at him like he always had.
"Maybe I did. The bitch was unworthy anyhow,"
Robb banged his fists on the table,"Take him away!"
Lord Karstark didn't do anything else other to send him a small smirk as he was being dragged away by Stark guards. He would never let him near Julina again.
━━━
"Are you alright?"
Julina turned her head to find Robb walking inside their chambers, closing the door behind him. He sat gently next to her as he pulled her into a peaceful embrace. He felt her heartbeat and felt like he could listen it to a deep slumber.
"Yes . . . there is no need to worry, it was only my arm,"
Robb lifted her chin, making her look at him. "Everything about you concerns me, Julina," he stopped for a moment before closing his eyes debating whether he should tell her or not. In the end, he sighed and gave up. There would be no lies between them.
"I have prisoned Lord Karstark for the attempt of your murder," Robb said.
Julina stiffened, her eyes closed as she let out a deep breath.
It made sense. Everything did. She had seen Lord Karstark with a man, they had talked in hushed voices but she caught them. He wanted revenge for his sons and he wanted her dead for it.
She felt Robb behind her, laying her down in the mattress. She closed her eyes and let the exhaustion put her into a deep slumber.
