Amelie sat on her mum and dad's bed in London. She was where her dad usually slept, but upon seeing the girl curled up in a ball the night prior, the man just smiled and walked into the spare room, knowing that all Amelie needed was Bethany.

It had to be at least seven am when Amelie heard her mom begin to stir. Amelie had been awake for hours, just staring up at the ceiling, her mind running millions of miles and hour.

Ever since the words "i don't think this is a good idea." had fallen from Sam Golbach's mouth, Amelie had been living on autopilot. It had been exactly fifty-two days since those words had left his mouth and Amelie still felt the exact same as she had when she first heard them. She thought flying across the world three days ago would magically fix her, but it didn't. In fact, it made it worse because there was no way he could find her here and say he made a massive mistake and that he, too, wanted to be with her.

Amelie had been raised on the saying, "i don't need a man." and she knew she didn't. She knew she was fine in her own, the only thing was, she wanted one. She wanted one very specific blond haired blue eyed man that didn't seem to want her.

She wanted him to tell her what to do, where to sit, what to need. It was toxic and unhealthy, but she would have taken anything he could give her. Sadly, she had missed out on it and there was no one to blame but herself. He had told her a few weeks ago that he had his heart set on her, but... didn't quite seem like that now.

The worst part about the whole situation was that he seemed to be fine. Completely and utterly fine. Like her heart wasn't ripped out. He got to live happily as ever as she become a shell of herself. She liked every photo he posted and threw her phone across the room when he had a huge smile on his face. She watched every video he and Colby posted and stared at the tv like she was staring through it.

How come his life moved on while hers stayed the exact same?

Bethany turned to face her daughter, looking at  the girl through tired eyes. It wasn't shocking to find Amelie in her husband's spot whenever the girl visited. Despite still having her own room, Amelie would always climb into her parent's bed.

"Good morning." The older woman whispered.

Amelie continued to look up at the ceiling, "Morning."

It didn't take a genius to figure out that Amelie was not acting like her usual self, but it did take a mother. When Amelie showed up on her doorstep on a random June evening with no warning, Beth knew something was up. She didn't push, she didn't ask, she just worried about the girl in silence for the first few days.

"What's wrong?" Bethany sighed, she couldn't bare to look at the heartbreak so evident on her child's face for any longer.

Amelie took a deep breath, "I fucked up. I waited too long and now— now everything's gone to shit and I can't fix it."

"I'm sure you didn't mess anything up — what have I told you about the language, Amelie!"

Amelie rolled her eyes and shook her head with a small smile, "Sorry... But I did. I was selfish and only thinking of myself and— and when I finally said what I thought he wanted to hear it was too late."

"He?" Bethany questioned, completely unaware of anything going on. Since christmas she was under the impression that Amelie and Sam had been dating, so this was news to her, "I thought you and that boy from Christmas were dating."

"We're not dating, but it is about him." Amelie let out a shaking breath, "I thought if anything happened or if we acted on anything our friendship would be ruined and now looking back I was so stupid. Me not acting on it and me not saying anything is what ruined it in the end. If I had of said something sooner then everything would be okay."

"He was a nice man." Bethany smiled. She had clocked the way Sam was staring lovingly at her daughter the second she met him. The way his arm sat comfortably on the back of Amelie's chair and the way Amelie would lean into his side and laugh extra hard at his corny jokes — which were not funny by any means.

Amelie smiled at the memory of Sam being so anxious to meet her parents, "Yeah, he is."

"But it's his loss." Her mum spoke up after a moment of silence, "You're an amazing girl and if you 'waited too long' then he's not the right one."

"I really do think he was though." Amelie admitted not only to her mother, but also to herself.

"Then fight for him."

"What?"

Bethany sat up and hovered over her daughter, a large smile on her face, "Fight. For. Him. If he's the one then fight for him. Don't give up so soon. One silly little argument or whatever won't ruin it if he's the one."

Amelie burst out laughing for the first time in days. She laughed until her stomach hurt and eyes teared up.

"You're insane." She smiled once she calmed down.

"I'm serious, Amelie-blythe. If you're serious about this then... get serious."

"I wouldn't even know where to start."

Bethany lay back down, "Hey, I gave you the idea, It's your bed you have to lay in it now."

"Unbelievable."
