Chapter 20
*this is the same day from the last chapter*
"Hey guys!" William and Louis looked up from their phones. They looked at each other then to me. "Hey" They both said awkwardly. I walked to the fridge muttering "ok" and grabbed my drink.
I walked over to the couch where the two boys were sitting. When I sat down, I noticed they shifted uncomfortably. There was awkward tension in the air as I drank my boba and the boys stayed on their phone.
I coughed a little catching the attention of the boys. "Do you guys wanna do something? It's only" I looked at the time on my phone, "2:57".
William had put his phone down. "Yeah sure what do you guys wanna do?" Louis shrugged his shoulders while I was thinking. I quickly ran to my room shuffling through my closet.
After finding the stuff, I walked back into the living room. "Let's play tennis" I smirked at the two.
It took us a while to find an empty tennis court in the middle of L.A. on a Tuesday afternoon. Once we found one, the boys quickly ran towards the court to claim it, causing me to stay behind and grab the equipment.
I dropped the stuff onto the ground and put my hands on my hips, looking at boys laying on the bench. "Thanks for the help you guys, totally appreciate it."
"No problem Ami" Louis smirked. I threw a tennis ball at his head.
"So how are we gonna play? We have an odd count of us." William asked throwing the ball, the one I threw at Louis's head, into the air and catching it.
Louis was rubbing his head as he responded, "Well we can play one on one then whoever wins both rounds can play one against two." William and I made eye contact then looks to Louis with a funny look. "Aye Ami," William said, catching my attention. "I'm pretty sure he meant play singles then turn it into doubles against single." We laughed as Louis scoffed, taking a racket from the bag and stealing Williams ball midair.
"C'mon guys! Let's play shall we?" Louis ran to the other side of the court, attempting to warm up. William and I grabbed our rackets. I told William he could play first and I'll keep score.
"Okay both players ready?" I looked at the two as they nodded their heads. "Okay love all, first serve, Louis." He looked at me expectedly. "Oi man that means you serve the ball now!" William yelled from across the court, causing me to laugh.
Louis's first serve fell too short and never made it over the net, the second went out of court. This went on the whole match, he lost. No surprise there. Soon enough it was my turn.
I got ready on my side of the court, "dribbling the ball" with my racket. "William would you like to serve first or would you like me to serve first?" William thought for a second. "You could serve first." William got ready.
I snickered to myself. I positioned myself on the serving line. The thing is, the boys don't know that I'm a pony. Meaning I've been playing tennis since I was a kid. My serves and backhands were my specialty. I remember before leaving for London, I had measured my serves. They go as fast as 74 mph. I looked back at the boys waiting patiently.
"Love all, first serve"
I threw the ball into the air and watched it bounce into the serving box and fly by William's head. He fell backwards, surprised by the ball. I smirked as the two looked at me, mouths open.
"Okay okay" William started getting up. "I'm ready, that was warm up."
I grabbed another ball, serving it the same way.
"Ok...looks like me and Willie here will be a team." I watched as they dapped each other up and Willie showed Louis where to stand.
I threw the balls over to Willie since it was his turn to serve. He had a decent arm at tennis, I was impressed. I felt like William and I were the only ones playing, he kept serving only to me and I kept hitting back lobs.
"Can one of you guys PLEASE hit it to me?" Louis cried out. I laughed as I volleyed a ball to him. He wasn't paying attention so instead it hit him in his face. I laughed out loud then ran to him when I realized he was in pain. I jumped over the net as William stood in the corner, laughing.
I tried to keep in my laughter as I examined Louis's face. "Are you okay? I didn't mean to hit you in the face." I touched Louis's face searching for any bruises. I realized how close we were and then quickly back away. Louis looked at me. "I'm fine, I'm good, that just caught me off guard."
William busted out in laughter again, causing us to look over at him. "Sorry, sorry that was just hilarious." Louis threw a ball at William, hitting him in the stomach. William fell to the floor, clutching his tummy in pain. Now it was our turn to laugh.
We continued to play till dark out, the boys impressed with my skills.
We were driving back home when Louis spotted a boba shop. "Ami, Ami! Turn back around!!!" I looked over to the guy in the passengers seat, hitting me in the arm.
I looked at William confused, he just shrugged his shoulders. "Why do you want me to turn around in the middle of the street stupid?" Slowing down and pulling over. I looked over to Louis.
"I saw a boba shop, over there" He pointed to a hidden shop across the street. I rolled my eyes and drove us to the parking lot.
"You're paying stupid." I said as we got out of the car. "That's fine with me." William and I hung back next to the car as we watched Louis skipped his way to the door. We chuckled at the sight.
After buying the drinks, we drove back home. We were going to head back to the apartment, but William told us to follow him. We climbed what felt like 10 more floors until William opened a door. The door to the rooftop. He led us towards some benches that overlooked L.A.
We sat down in silence, slurping the yummy drink. We didn't talk, but Louis had put his arm around me as I shuddered in the breeze. I hesitantly laid my head on his shoulder. I was thinking about my place in life. And how far I've come from the dark place I used to be in when I was last here in the city. I had two guys beside me who didn't in any way treat me like the last one did. If anything, it was like we cared for one another. Though Louis and I have only known William for a couple of days, we felt complete together. I knew they were going to be my best friends.
Louis on the other hand, we've known each other for weeks. He told me about Aubrey and how they broke up before we left. He knew she was going to use him for fame so he ended things before she could get anything from him. I would've never realized that, as he was good at hiding his emotions. I knew Louis has caught me a couple of times thinking about Dylan, but he never questioned it.
I continued to wonder what my life would be like if I moved on from Dylan, or even better, I had never met Dylan. Those thoughts ran through my head until a weird question came to mind. What if I dated Louis? I knew I wouldn't date William after spending some time with him, we were just too alike. I looked up at Louis with my head on his shoulder. He must've felt me staring cause he looked back at me. Louis was attractive I had to admit, but I know I wasn't capable of having a relationship. I have too many issues. Issues I don't want Louis to deal with.
I began to feel sad as I watched L.A. at a different view point. Though I used to live in this city since I was born, I've never seen it from above, especially at night. So many people here and luckily I haven't bumped into the one person I desperately didn't want to see. Dylan.
I pushed away my thoughts as I pull William in and Louis closer. I gave them a hug. William rested his head on my shoulder as Louis put his chin on my head. Rubbing my back comfortably, I put my face into Louis's chest, thankful for the loud noises from the city, they didn't hear me start to cry in happiness. Happy that I had wonderful people around me. Thankful for leaving the toxic people behind me. Just glad to be here.
