You had gone through this thinking you'd be able to make it, and hoping you could survive it long enough to see Jake and your children again all together. In a way, one of your last thoughts, before you passed out, had been relief to see your two girls making it up there, even if you hadn't. But why was it that after all that suffering, after all the bloodshed, after all the pain, is this the way things had to end for you? Was it for nothing?
That last question had been answered for you right before you lost consciousness. The only thing that kept you at ease before you blacked out and convinced you that all of this was worth every struggle, was seeing your daughters reach the surface with Jake and Lo'ak. Even if you weren't there to reunite with them, after hoping, yearning, and fighting for it until you felt like you couldn't anymore. Ultimately, it was worth it, as much as you despised fate for not allowing you to enjoy it with Jake and your kids.
Why couldn't you see your family? Why weren't you allowed to live and take at least one last breath of fresh air? Why is it that fate stopped you at the last second to finally get what you had been fighting for so badly? All you wanted was to see Jake again, to have him hold you and never let him go, to see all your children make it out of this in one piece even with Neteyam's close call. Why did this have to happen to you? Even if you managed to kill Lyle, why is it that you had to waste your strength to take him out and then not be able to join the people you loved the most in the world?
Why were you sinking to the ocean floor? Had Jake noticed? Have the kids noticed? Was it too late to save you? These questions kept nagging at you until your brain didn't have it in it to form any more thoughts and it drove you insane. Hadn't you done everything right? Where did this go wrong and you ended up missing the cues along the way of this being how you'd end up? Why was it so hard to ask to want to live blissfully?
You didn't realize how close yet so far away you were from getting to that, and as much as you had tried to stay strong through everything that's happened in your lifetime up until now, why couldn't those efforts pay off into being able to live? Even while knowing Jake and the kids for such a short amount of time, your life, your heart, and everything in you had become so attached and entwined to them that it felt like a dagger in your heart to know that you may not be able to live to see the kids grow up, to think as your connection with Jake only strengthened and never wavered over the years as you both got to live out your lives until the end. Still, you wished you could've seen this as your fate because you would've taken advantage of every moment you had with them before this battle and not taken a second for granted. You just wanted to see them again.
Though, as you passed out and your body had landed and rested in a couple of rock and coral sediments, your body was still alive and responsive, just not conscious. There was one person who had still yet to come out of the ship, and that became your last hope.
Just as you had put your life on the line with Neteyam and Lo'ak to save him on the ship, Spider was the last one to come out of the ship and start to swim out of the last corner. He had already left Quaritch down there and was planning to meet up with you and the Sully's up at the surface, so he was now on his way to find where the family was so he could reunite with them but he was caught by surprise on his way there.
Just as Spider was leaving the ship, heading up towards the surface, and stopped on the corner of his eye Payakan with figures hovering around the fin of the creature so he assumed those were the Sully's. As his mask hissed with every breath he took, Spider began to swim upwards but as he did, he felt himself freeze as he caught something in the corner of his eye.
Hoping his eyes were playing tricks on him, he turned his head briefly and looked down. He felt like his blood had run cold and he paled at the sight in front of you. Your limp body was motionless against the ocean floor, and next to you was a lifeless Lyle with multiple stab wounds across his abdomen.
Spider didn't even have time to think about what might have transpired for things to have turned out to what he was witnessing, but what Spider didn't have to think twice about was heading down to get you. He hoped he wasn't too late that it hadn't been too long since what got you to this state occurred, and that he could get you up to Jake as soon as possible.
With plenty of air left in his mask to breathe through, he was glad he was the last one to get out of the ship and to be the one who got to be able to help you get out of this. He couldn't imagine how much you've suffered to get to this point only for it to be ripped away so cruelly and unjustly.
Soon enough, after swimming as fast as his limbs allowed him to, Spider got to you and ignored Lyle completely. Same as Quaritch, even though they were long gone, Lyle is one person he did not feel any remorse for leaving down here and Spider was able to infer that you were able to defend yourself until the very last second. He would forever be grateful for your help before and now he would be returning the favor to you. "Hang on, Mrs. Sully," He said to himself as his voice slightly wavered with nerves.
With Spider being human and you being Na'vi, it was a little challenging to try to hold onto you securely enough to bring you to the surface but he figured it out and lifted you enough so you were laying on his back and he wrapped your arms around your shoulders. Another advantage was that Spider had yet to use his emergency inflating vest so now getting you up there would be a breeze.
He had yet to use it, after the entire battle and even before when he was being held hostage so now it was coming in handy. Making sure you were securely against his back and that he had a good hold around your arms. Then, it was time to go. And with a tug on the tab of the lifejacket, it inflated and before you knew it, you and Spider were making your way up to the surface, and closer to your family.
During the time that Lyle had gotten to you and Spider found you afterward, that was around the same time that Kiri and Tuk had made their way up to the surface, completely unaware of what had happened to their mom. Before Kiri and Tuk arrived at the surface, Lo'ak and Jake were reconciling briefly and were waiting for everyone else to arrive.
After Jake was done exchanging words with his son, both of them suddenly heard a loud wail coming from Payakan. Lo'ak turned his head from his dad, to back to moving to make eye contact with the Tulkun as he raised an eyebrow at the sudden outburst of the creature. It sounded desperate.
"Brother, what's wrong?" Lo'ak inquired as his face contorted into one of worry and Payakan wailed again. Jake observed the exchange, knowing that the creature was trying to express something to his son. "Where's y/n?" Payakan emitted another wail, and Lo'ak was able to understand that loud and clear, after learning more and more about how Tulkun's communicate. From what he knew, Lo'ak expected you to come up to the surface with his sisters at any moment, so they just had to wait a little while longer until they did.
"She will arrive with my sisters soon, we have to wait" Lo'ak spoke as he signed to Payakan, and the Tulkun let out a reverberating hum that expressed his understanding. Lo'ak sighed and turned his head back to look at his dad who was still trying to comprehend what was happening. "Is everything okay?" Jake asked his son, and Lo'ak was quick to nod in response as he continued to hold onto Payakan's fin and not let go.
"Yeah, Payakan just wanted to know where Mom was. I just told him that she should get here with Tuk and Kiri soon" Lo'ak said, and Jake nodded as he continued to take even breaths to get his breathing back to normal. He couldn't wait to see you. He wanted to hear your voice. He had already been apart from you for far too long and he just wanted to have his family in one place. Quaritch was gone, now, he no longer felt like he needed to be on the run. Sure, Sky People were still around, but their biggest threat was gone.
They needed to go back and check on Neteyam, and hopefully, if he woke up, he wouldn't be alone and Tsireya and Zara would be there to keep him company until they got back. If not, Jake hoped he wake up when they got back to him and be surrounded by his family. The fight felt like it was over, but deep down he knew it would only be over until he knew for certain that he had his family complete, safe and sound, and in one piece by his side. He tried not to think about it too much and just told himself to be patient.
But before he could continue to try and convince himself that it was all going to go uphill from here, that's when the universe started to prove his thoughts wrong. He heard a gasp of water and heard two familiar voices from afar. Kiri and Tuk had officially made it up to the surface and began to swim towards Payakan's fin, where their dad and their brother were.
Tuk and Kiri used their arms and legs with all of their remaining strength to swim and get close enough to Payakan's fin and finally get to the embrace of their dad after being separated for so long. The very reason why you and Jake got back to the ship was to get them back and bring them to safety, and now that they were here in his hold, he felt like your and Jake's efforts had been worth it. Lo'ak heard the splashing of water and turned his head, gasping when he saw his sisters getting closer, but not his mom. Both Jake and Lo'ak thought the same thing. Where were you?
"Dad! Dad!" Tuk called out as Jake immediately set space for his two daughters on the Tulkun's fin. Kiri was right beside her sister, and so much adrenaline and relief was coursing through the Sully's veins, they didn't think they'd ever see each other in one place again, and they were all utterly exhausted and felt like they could sleep for days. "Come. Come here," Jake breathed out as he gathered everyone. Well, almost everyone. Jake, when he only saw the two of them and looked around, to find nobody else, his face dropped. His anxiety began to spike again because he didn't want to believe the worst, but as he was about to speak, Lo'ak beat him to it.
"Kiri, Tuk, where's mom?" Lo'ak asked, his eyes blown with worry as he looked around their vicinity. At their brother's words, Kiri and Tuk's faces dropped as they looked behind them and saw nobody else around. You weren't behind them like you had been a couple of minutes before.
Suddenly, Lo'ak, Kiri and Tuk's minds flashed with recognition as they were reminded of a very cruel memory from the past. A year and a half before, when Neytiri got out of their sight for even a second, they never saw her again and lost her forever. The kids' minds froze as they felt horror and terror that history would be repeating itself. Jake felt like he was frozen, as his eyes suddenly locked onto the horizon of water in front of them, searching for any sign of you.
Where were you? You were supposed to be with the girls, weren't you? And suddenly an emotion that he hadn't felt in a long time came creeping in. Unadulterated fear and dread ran through his veins at the voices in his head telling him over and over that he had yet again, lost his mate, his family was torn apart, his heart would be shattered for good and he would no longer let himself fall in love if his thoughts were correct.
But he didn't want them to be true. You promised you'd come back. He held onto that, and he knew you wouldn't give up so easily. You're one of the bravest people he's ever met and a little adversity never stopped you. He expected you to come up above the water any second now but nothing was happening. You were coming back to him, he couldn't live on without you. 'Damn it, y/n, where are you?' He thought to himself as he couldn't even hide the horror that was creeping up on his face. He couldn't hide it.
"I.." Kiri started as she looked back at Lo'ak, bile formed in her throat, and her heart began to beat faster inside her chest. What happened to you? They could've sworn you were right behind them, giving them boosts so they got up to the surface as quickly as possible, and making sure neither of them fell behind. Tuk wasn't any better, her eyes were wide, and her breaths were short and suppressed as she tried to keep tears at bay at the possibility that something had happened to you at the last moment, and fate had torn into their family once again, reopening the wounds of the past.
The wounds that healed because of you and the unity you brought. Your support, your presence, your voice, your kindness, your humility, your unwavering strength, and your understanding ways brought this family back together after it seemed like they'd been separated for good. You were everything they had been missing, how could it be happening all over again? How could fate be so cruel? Before Lo'ak could reply to Kiri's words as the oldest Sully daughter wrapped her arms around Tuk's shoulder in comfort and deep guilt, the Sully family all turned their heads at a loud splash followed by a voice calling for Jake.
"Jake! It's y/n!" Spider said as everyone saw Spider was swimming over to the Sully family with you unconscious on his back. Nobody knew how to react at first. Payakan saw you in the state you were in and wailed loudly, with a squeal laced with concern. How had this happened to you?
The Tulkun felt pain all over and was deeply worried about the state you were in, whether you were alive or not. After all the lengths you went for him and Lo'ak, making sure the truth came to light, and after coming through with his promise that your past mate wanted him to deliver to you, Payakan felt a deep sense of care for you and your well-being. He wanted you to live.
As for your children, they all gasped as their eyes widened at the sight in front of them, watching as their human friend brought their seemingly lifeless and motionless mom over to them.
"Mom!" Lo'ak was the first to react as he yelled out, feeling his throat strain at how much his voice was wavering. He watched in complete horror and couldn't tell if his mind was playing tricks on him. This cannot be happening to them again. They had been so, so close. You had to be alive, right? It wouldn't be too late. They had been through too many close calls today that it was starting to feel like this was when their luck would run out.
What about all those times that he felt so misunderstood and that the whole world was turning against him, and you were the only one who showed him true compassion and never doubted him for a second? You risked the rules of your clan to make him happy, to let him know that his feelings were valid, that his opinions mattered, and that he wasn't alone anymore. He didn't want to lose that, you have become the picture-perfect image of a mother that they needed. That he needed. "No. No...this isn't happening again. Please, mom. Don't go, don't do this" He muttered under his breath as he began to shake, and couldn't stop his voice from shaking.
Not to mention how happy you've made his dad and broadened his horizons so much further than he could've ever expected. And right as he thought that the conflict was over, that they didn't have to suffer anymore, here you were being stripped away from the opportunity to live at the last second. Lo'ak hated how unfair it was. You didn't deserve it. What could he do? What could any of them do now? They needed to take you back to the village as soon as possible. You still had a chance. They weren't going to give up on you. You've never given up on them, so they would reciprocate.
"Mama!" Tuk cried out as she and Kiri reached their hands out to you as Spider brought you close enough to your family. The two girls could no longer hold back the tears that had been building up and seeing you so unresponsive brought back painful memories it scared them so much that this would be how things would end. The girls were horrified at seeing your body so limp and looking as if it had shut down completely.
Was the sight in front of them truly real? Was it fabricated? It finally felt like it was over, but this curveball was making them question everything. Kiri and Tuk begged the Great Mother to help them, to let them live. What would Neteyam think if he woke up and he saw you like this? Kiri, Tuk, and Lo'ak all assisted Spider in bringing your body up unto Payakan's fin to lay you down.
Once they did and they had you settled and the kids had settled around you, Kiri's lips trembled as she tried not to start sobbing right then and there holding Tuk close on one side, and with her free arm, she reached out to place her hand on top of your head. The two girls were now sobbing as they stood by your side and held your motionless hand as tightly as they could as if that alone could bring you back. They needed anything alone to give them comfort that they would be okay. Anything at all.
But Jake felt like he had seen this before. The body of the one he loved the most lay before him, with no signs of life. The moment that he saw Spider come out of the water with you on his back, he froze. He couldn't react. He was numb. He had seen this before. Once again, like Neytiri, he wasn't there when what happened that ended up with you like this and couldn't protect you or fight to prevent it. He felt guilt run through every bone in his body. He knows he would have been barely able to even get up to the surface if it wasn't for Lo'ak and Payakan, but he would've gone to depths of the ocean for you even if it cost him his life but he's stuck blaming himself.
You promised each other to end this together, and he vowed to never let you suffer alone anymore and to shoulder every burden and fight by your side. But he failed. He failed you. He watched as his children crowded around you and he was frozen as his breathing picked up and feeling like his heart was hammering against his chest. He didn't want to admit it, and even now after it felt like it was all over fate suddenly brought this curveball on him, but he was exhausted, he was mentally and physically drained.
How much would they have to endure until it felt like you were all safe? He wanted to go home with you, with the kids. The way you were on your back, slumped, without movement, scared him. You were scaring him because history was repeating itself. You couldn't be doing this to him, right? He's seen this before and he didn't like how it ended. His blood was running cold and he felt shivers all over his body as he attempted to process this.
He hated himself at this very moment because he wanted to have a bigger and quicker reaction, but his body and mind were not allowing him to. He couldn't focus, he couldn't think, his children were sobbing, his wife was unconscious, and he still had to go back to his oldest son. He couldn't take it, he couldn't lose you, why did there have to be more to this battle?
Jake finally began to let his body react and move closer to you until he was right next to your head and placed his hand on top of your head he tried to let his mind cooperate and to tell him what to do next. He would usually know what to do in the face of adversity and dire situations but for some reason, his body wouldn't react any further and his mind was no help either. This was entirely different. This came out of nowhere and it hit him like a truck once he saw that they weren't in the clear, as he had thought before.
He was feeling his ears ringing painfully as he looked down at you, and even after feeling numb and disassociated beyond his comprehension, the first he did once he got his bearings back was to move the hand that he had on your head to cup your cheek and the other to check your pulse.
If he felt something, one thing that he was sure of and that his mind could not convince him of otherwise is that it would give him hope to come up with a solution once he knew for sure. Either way, he knew that you had to be taken back to the village as soon as possible, whether you were dead or alive, as painful and agonizing as it was to even come to that realization.
His hands were shaking but Jake placed two fingers against your neck where he prayed to Eywa that he would feel something. Kiri, Lo'ak, and Tuk all leaned forward with anticipation as they waited for their dad to tell them if she was still alive. The kids would feel so much more hopeful if they could know that your heart was still beating and they could take you and Neteyam back to the village to be treated. After seconds of an agonizing wait, Jake felt something. He felt a pulse. It was very, very faint, which is why it took him a couple of seconds to make sure he felt it. But you were alive.
You had a chance to live, and he wouldn't waste another second. "There's a pulse, she's alive" Jake sighed deeply in relief as he felt like heat gather behind his eyes. He'd make sure you'd live, and from the moment you wake up, he would never let you go ever again. Upon hearing the news, the kids all felt relief wash over them and Kiri and Tuk hugged each other even tighter and Lo'ak smiled and exhaled shakily, wiping his tears away.
Now, they had to act fast. "We need to get her back to the village, fast. She's breathing and her heart is beating but we can't waste more time. Let's get Neteyam, Zara, and Tsireya and get out of here" Jake said hastily as the kids and Spider nodded in agreement. Lo'ak was quick to turn to Payakan and speak with urgency, but the Tulkun was ready to go and help in any way he could. "Brother, take us back to Neteyam" Lo'ak said and Payakan was quick to react and wailed loudly in response, but as he tried to move, the Tulkun halted and hummed lowly. The Sully's were all quick to realize why.
Since the Tulkun's only frontal fin is being occupied by the Sully's. Wanting to make this as quick as possible and not waste another second. They were all quick to take notice of this and while Kiri helped Tuk get on Payakan's back by holding her hand and guiding her up, Lo'ak, Jake, and Spider all helped to lift you and place you securely on the creature's back as well, so now, the fin Payakan needed was free and they could be on their way.
Payakan swam as fast as his fins could take him and on the way back to the rock where Neteyam, Tsireya, and Zara were still waiting for the family to arrive, the air was tense. Kiri and Tuk were sitting by your head, with Tuk sitting in between Kiri's legs as her older sister held her tight as the two of them looked down at you sorrowfully and full of fear that your life might slip away if they didn't get to the village in time. Tonowari and Ronal would know what to do.
Tuk every couple seconds pressed her fingers to your neck to see if you still had a pulse and sighed in relief whenever she felt it. She was scared, traumatized, and terrified that she would miss when your heart stopped beating. The cries for her mother to live haunted her sister's siblings, wanting a miracle to come to help them.
Kiri watched and had her eyes fixated on you, teary-eyed, without saying a word as a million scenarios of how this could go replayed in her head. She also recalled every moment she shared with you up until now, and how your mother-daughter relationship evolved. Your daughter prayed endlessly to Eywa to save their mom.
She remembered when she was feeling down after leaving the forest, feeling so different from everybody else and so alienated, but you got through to her and became the anchor she felt like she had lost forever. You were so attentive to her when she had her seizure, and even earlier before when she, Tuk, and you were getting out of the ship and always put them first so they could get to the surface first.
Ultimately, that decision is what led to your demise and your state right now. She felt like she had taken your support, understanding, and your presence for granted. But she would never do it again. She wanted you to wake up so she could express how grateful she is to have you as their mother.
Jake was sitting by your head too, he didn't look away from you as he monitored every movement, every rise of your chest, as faint as they were. He had his hand cupping your cheek gently as his thumb dusted over your cheekbone and his expression remained solemn. He wanted you to open your eyes, to look into his, so he could gaze into those pools of turquoise that he loved so much. He wanted to know how this happened to you. What happened between you getting out of the ship with the girls and only them making it up to the surface?
Jake turned to Spider for answers. He owed that boy everything. He was eternally grateful that he had been the last one out of that ship or it would've been too late to get to you. "Spider," Jake started getting the attention of the boy who was sitting next to Lo'ak. The human boy looked at Jake and hummed in response, letting Jake know that he could continue. Jake took a shaky breath before he spoke again.
"Where was she? Where did you find her?" Jake asked as he redirected his gaze back to you as his eyes darted across your face, trying to memorize every single feature before it was too late. Spider tensed up for a moment as his eyes wavered a bit and he moved awkwardly in place before clearing his throat and responding.
"Um. I was leaving the ship and was about to head up to meet up with you guys because I assumed all of you had already made it up but then I turned my head and saw her unconscious by the reef" Spider explained as the image of what he was describing clouded Jake's head, but he did his best to not let it affect him so that the boy could continue.
"I didn't see what happened before to get her to that state but I saw Lyle dead next to her with stab wounds all over him. I guess that she took him out before he could strangle her completely first" Spider concluded and Jake's eyes widened at the mention of Lyle being the one who attacked you. He was sure that he had knocked him out and threw him overboard high enough to ensure his death.
He had been alive after that and Jake began to curse at himself mentally for not having made sure that he was dead. If he had, this wouldn't have happened. How could he have been so careless? He knew that if you heard him blaming himself, you'd assure him that it wasn't and prove it otherwise. But he couldn't help it. There weren't any words to describe how much he loved you and how it would always be you. He'd truly do anything for you.
Jake made the connection and assumed that the best way to finish the job once Quaritch was gone was to go after you. But it seems like you held your own until the end. The stab wounds? He couldn't place what feeling grew inside him after hearing that. For one, he felt a wave of pride wash over him, knowing how brave you were, even when your life was at risk, and taking Lyle all on your own even when your life was on the line.
It was clear that you fought until the very end just to get back to him and the kids, just as much as he had before, and was about to give up. You were so strong, and so brave, that when you woke up, he would remind you every single day if it was necessary.
There was no 'if', because he was certain you'd wake up. Your hearts and your souls were so entwined that he knew not even death could break the two of you apart. It would take time to rebuild the damage that the Sky People have imposed on the Sully's, but as long as he had you by his side, the two of you can do it all.
It wasn't long before Payakan had brought over the Sullys to the rock where Tsireya and Zara were still looking over an unconscious Neteyam who seemed to appear stable. The eclipse was over and now light was coming back. Everything brightened up and everyone's surroundings could be seen a lot better.
But upon reaching the rocky surface, Tsireya and Zara gasped when they saw that they had come back with a casualty that happened to be you. While Tsireya stayed frozen in place she covered her mouth with both of her hands and her eyes were wide as she tried to process what she was witnessing. But Zara was quicker to react.
"Y/n!" Your best friend reacted as she ran across the rocky surface and tried to get as close to the Tulkun as possible. When she saw you up close, her hand flew to her mouth as she looked at Jake with desperation. "Is she okay? What happened to her?" Zara asked as she immediately began to assist Jake and Spider, who had come closer to help as well, to lift you and help you get onto a more steady surface. Before calling the Ilu's and Jake's Skimwing, your husband needed to know the state of his son.
Your best friend placed her hands under your back while Jake held your head and shoulders and Spider held your legs. "It's a long story, but we have to take her back to the village before it's too late. She doesn't have much time and Ronal can give her the treatment she needs" Jake said urgently and Zara nodded.
He was right she could get a rundown of the situation later. Zara and Spider helped lower you to the ground as Jake adjusted you to lay on his lap, rest your head on his chest and he had an arm under your legs. He cradled your head close to him and proceeded to ask Zara what happened while they were gone.
"Well, his state hasn't changed but he seems to be breathing a lot better than before. All we were waiting for was for him to wake up. We should take both of them back to the village so they have a better chance of waking up" Zara said as she tried to ignore the possibility that you might not come back from this, but she knew you wouldn't let go so easily and would fight against all odds to come back to the ones you loved.
Jake nodded in agreement and looked at his surroundings. Lo'ak, Kiri, and Tuk had dismounted Payakan as well and stood on the rocky surface. Jake heard his son briefly thank the Tulkun for helping them get here and for all that he's done for them, to which the creature responded with a soft trill.
Now, everybody was on the rocky surface, in one place, and it was time to go. Jake called his Skimwing with a yip and quickly gathered you in his arms, with an arm under your legs and the other under your back, as he saw the creature approach from across the corner.
Jake stood up and pressed a kiss soft kiss to your forehead as he began to walk to the edge of the rocks, and swiftly mounted his Skimwing but not taking off yet, he turned his head back and saw that Lo'ak, Spider, and Zara were all helping to lift Neteyam steadily and carefully so they didn't add to his injuries. They were all helping get him moved since the oldest Sully would ride with Lo'ak. The youngest Sully's brother yipped as well and his ilu was quick to appear as well a couple of seconds later.
As they got closer to the shore, Spider and Zara both helped Neteyam be settled first and then Lo'ak sat right behind him so he wouldn't fall off. After that, once they made sure the brothers were secure, each of them proceeded to do the same thing. While Zara called her own Skimwing and mounted it, Spider was quick to get to Kiri and Tuk.
Kiri called her ilu as well, and when it arrived around the corner, Kiri helped Tuk get on first, and then she proceeded to sit right behind her. Since this was an ilu that was larger, there was room for Spider as well so he sat right behind Kiri.
After that, everybody was settled and ready to go. Before they all left, Jake looked down at you and his frown deepened. "We did it, y/n" Jake whispered, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. He defeated Quaritch like he promised, the both of you avenged Neytiri and everyone you've lost. Even if you weren't conscious, both of you reached your goals like you'd promised each other.
Soon enough, everyone yipped and hollered for their respective Ilu and Skimgwings to move forward and start heading toward Awa'atlu once again. On the way there, Jake held you close to him and occasionally pressed kisses on the top of your head and kept his gaze ahead.
Then suddenly it occurred to him how the village would react, the people you have grown up with your entire life, how Tonowari and Ronal would react to see you in the state you were in. The only thing he wanted right now was to get you and Neteyam the care you needed. That was all that mattered.
Jake was also well aware that most of the clan had been reduced during the battle and you and Neteyam weren't the only ones who were probably healing to go back to normal. The heaviness in his chest did not go away, even when they all traveled through the open ocean and got closer to where your last hope for treatment was. Time passed pretty quickly and before Jake knew it, he and the rest of his family following behind could see the village and the reef approaching and getting closer and closer.
Pushing his nerves aside of facing everybody in the village, seeing as you and Neteyam returned from Three Brother's Rocks unconscious. He guided his Skimwing to arrive by the shore of the beach, shortly followed by Lo'ak with Neteyam on his ilu, Zara on her Skimwing, and Kiri accompanied by Tuk and Spider on a single ilu as well. When Jake hopped off his Tsurak, still holding you close to him in bridal style, he stepped foot in the sand and then turned back to the others who were also getting off their creatures.
Zara quickly got off her Skimwing and walked over to Lo'ak and assisted him in lifting Neteyam. She held onto his legs and Lo'ak had his arms around his back to carry him. The last ones to get off were Kiri, Tuk, and Spider, and that was Jake's cue to finally start moving and head towards the village, with everyone else following behind him.
Jake had been walking across the paths of the village a little faster than he intended as he searched for Ronal and Tonowari. In doing so, he received looks and heard gasps from villagers he passed by once they saw him carrying you and also Lo'ak and Zara carrying Neteyam right behind him. He tried to ignore the comments and the whispers because that wasn't what he should be focusing on right now.
Jake knew you were very well known along the village, and not just because you were like a daughter to Tonowari and Ronal or because they knew you'd be the next Tsahik, but because you are a figure to your community and everybody has always known the kind of person you are and how you'd never failed your people with how kind, brave, compassionate, full of love in excess to give to others, and many other traits that made you the perfect leader for the future generations.
You and his son were his priority. Eventually, he walked across the entire village until he reached the place that he assumed would be the safest bet to find the Tsahik and the Olo'eyktan. With urgency, Jake turned the corner and he felt relief washed over him as he saw Tonowari and Ronal inside.
With no warning, Jake stepped inside with you in his arms, and the couple both turned their heads to see Jake but their eyes nearly bugged out of their eyes as they immediately rushed to your mate and then looked behind him to see Lo'ak and Zara approach with Neteyam in their hold too. Kiri had taken it upon herself to lead Tuk and Spider to their hut and wait for the news there, knowing that it was too dire for them to be present during the healing of their mother and their brother.
This was all so sudden that Tonowari and Ronal didn't know how to react, what to say, where to look, what to do. They had been taking care of the aftermath in the village, but what made their blood run cold was seeing the woman they'd considered their daughter seemingly lifeless and your son with injuries that were in desperate need of treatment.
The two of them were looking forward to the moment that you got back to the village so the three of you could officially talk through things, but seeing you like this made them regret not having done it sooner. The moment Jake came into their hut in the state you were in, they put everything aside and immediately put their focus on you and your son who are in dire need of help before it was too late.
Jake was so out of breath and so desperate that he didn't intend for his next words to sound as distressed and desolate as they did. "Help us. Help my mate and son, please. They're barely holding on" Jake said urgently as Tonowari and Ronal turned to look at each other once and then back to Jake with secure and determined looks on their faces. They would do anything they could to help you heal and make sure you and Neteyam lived to see another day. Tonowari and Ronal wanted to know how it came to this, but the details could wait until later.
They needed no further explanation of how you and Neteyam ended up this way because of how urgent the situation was that they quickly began to take action."Follow us. The healing tent should be nearby and they can both be examined there" Tonowari said, and Jake let out a breath of relief he didn't know he was holding and as he turned his head back to face Lo'ak and Zara, he gave them a gesture with his head as he headed out and followed after the Olo'eyktan and the Tsahik, so Lo'ak and Zara began to follow as well, keeping Neteyam secure just as Jake was doing with you. There were healing tents available near Tonowari and Ronal's Marui, so it didn't take very long to get there.
By the time they did, everything happened so quickly that Jake failed to comprehend what was going on. When they arrived at the healing at the healing hut, Tonowari and Ronal spoke with urgency to the healers who were already stationed there and were also treating warriors who had grave injuries from the battle, and explained what the situation was. "My daughter and her son need urgent help. Transfer them to urgent care immediately" Tonowari spoke sternly and in a tone that made the healers immediately begin to do as they were told.
Before Jake knew it, and before he could object, two healers approached him and ripped you away from the strong hold he had on you and out of his arms. As they took you away, Jake's arms reached out as he watched longingly and with concern as he watched the healers place you on a mat across the healing tent and begin to examine you. He moved his head and tried to look over the number of people in the room to see if he could look at you because even if you were now in the hands of people who could nurse you back to health, he still wanted to be by your side.
He felt like he hadn't done enough by just bringing you here and he wanted to be with you every step of the way. He put a hand on the back of his head as he desperately tried to find you in the sea of people in front of him. He was getting anxious. What else could he do?
He didn't want to go back to his tent without you and sit with his thoughts as he wondered if you would make it out of this. He also knew that he had to go back to check on Kiri, Tuk, and Spider. And Neteyam's health was also on his mind. It was just too much, and his mind felt like it was in a nauseous fog, not being able to think straight.
He could also see in the corner of his eye as they took Neteyam away to another mat and they looked over his haphazardly contained injury. With the commotion that suddenly rose in the Marui and with the number of healers running back and forth to get supplies, materials, and to organize themselves, Jake felt himself let his feet move before his brain thought it through, but he couldn't get very far because he felt a hand on his shoulder that stopped him from going any further.
He turned his head back and saw that Tonowari and Ronal were both looking at him solemnly a look that told him that up until this point, Jake had done all he could and all they could do now was wait. Including the Tsahik and the Olo'eyktan as well. You were important to them as well in a way they couldn't even put into words and prayed to Eywa that you would come back to them.
Your parents had wanted the two of them to take care of you and if you didn't come back from this, they'd feel like they would have failed them and you. They understood what Jake must be feeling, and maybe if it wasn't the same kind of relationship, it was out of their hands at this point and all they could do was wait and pull all of their trust in the healers of the village.
"Jake, they'll keep you updated. There's nothing else we can do now" Tonowari said and suddenly a look of hesitancy grew on Jake's face as he realized that he needed to leave you now. He needed to leave his son and his wife and he was having a hard time coming to terms with that. He couldn't sit around and let his thoughts eat him alive.
Ronal seemed to notice Jake's expression because she sighed and spoke up; "They're both in Eywa's hands now, Jake. You have to trust that she'll take care of them. You brought them in just in time and that was more than enough but now it's time to step back" Ronal said, earning a nod of agreement from Tonowari as they both examined how Jake reacted to those words. After a couple of seconds, they watched as he exhaled and ran a hand through his face he looked to the side, closing his eyes shut and eventually nodding in agreement.
As much as it pained him to have to walk out of the hut, he knew he had to and that the healers could have more space to help you and Neteyam stabilize. His hanging around would come in the way of that. Tonowari put a hand on Jake's back as the three of them began to walk out and your mate repeated in his head over and over not to look back or he'd go back on his words and he'd never be able to leave.
On the way back to his hut, Tonowari and Ronal eventually went to theirs and Jake walked back alone. Zara needed some time alone and distract herself as she waited for news about you and your son. Lo'ak had already gone back to the hut with his siblings and Spider. Jake tried to repeat over and over in his head like a mantra that you and Neteyam would be okay, that you were both getting the help you needed. It was just so hard to let go. At least he'd have something to tell the kids for now so that they wouldn't be distressed as they waited.
Eventually, after walking across the village for a couple minutes, he could finally see it in the distance in his mind he started to rehearse what he'd say to the kids. They were most likely waiting for any sort of updates and it'll give them peace of mind at least for at least a little while. He exhaled shakily and placed a hand over his heart as he neared the entrance of his family's hut, and when he did, his kids all snapped their heads to look at him, perked up at the sight of him, standing up, and looked at him expectantly for any updates.
"Dad! Are Neteyam and Mom okay? What happened?" Kiri was the first one to ask, and the other kids nodded subconsciously, given that they were all thinking the same thing. Jake looked at all of them and before he said anything, without another word, he extended his arms and his kids quickly understood. Lo'ak, Spider, Kiri, and Tuk, all rushed to Jake and embraced them in a group hug that he didn't know he needed until he felt the tight grip of his children cling to him for comfort.
He wrapped his arms around all of them at once and rested his head against Lo'ak who was closer to him setting Tuk to rest on his hip. "They're looking over them right now. All we can do is wait now" Jake explained and he felt them nod against him and also heard a couple of 'okay's' from them as well. That seemed to give them enough hope to know that at the very least you and Neteyam were in good hands. They were much stronger than he would ever know and times like these proved that.
Eventually, they all broke away from the hug and before they pulled away, Jake pressed kisses to the top of Tuk and Kiri's heads, and putting Tuk back on the ground and then Jake briefly held Lo'ak and Spider's head close to him and keeping them there for a couple seconds. When his children all dispersed, to distract themselves, Lo'ak had the idea to show Spider around since he would be staying here for a while most likely, so Tuk and Kiri were also quick to follow.
But just as they were all about to leave the hut with Spider, Lo'ak turned back and his face fell when he saw how exhausted his dad looked. His eyes were lidded, his stance clearly said that he was worn out beyond belief and there was a permanent frown on his face accompanied by how his eyebrows were furrowed and full of concern. His dad couldn't be alone in the state he was in. And that's when he decided to leave Kiri to show Spider the village with Tuk, and he would stay and give his dad the strength he needed.
Noticing that Lo'ak had stopped in his tracks, Spider and his sisters looked back and noticed he wasn't moving and was stuck in place as he looked at his dad with worry. "Bro, are you coming?" Spider asked with worry, noticing how Lo'ak had different plans in mind.
Lo'ak looked back briefly at his human best friend and it took him a couple of seconds to answer but he eventually came to a decision. "I think I'll stay. You guys go without me" The youngest Sully brother said, and upon hearing his response, Spider and the girls looked at each other before they nodded and began to head out, understanding what he wanted to do.
And they agreed that at least one of them should stay and make sure their dad was okay and didn't feel lost. You and the kids are all that Jake had left, and having someone by his side while waiting to hear something back is exactly what he needed.
Once they left and Lo'ak was in the doorway, the boy watched as his dad seemed to be on autopilot, moving a little slower than he used to and his movements were delayed as well. It was already late in the day and it would soon be dinnertime so Lo'ak knew what he had to do. The boy stepped back into the tent and silently began assisting his dad in getting the ingredients and items ready that he needed to start dinner.
Upon seeing his son helping out without saying a word, even if his actions said more than a thousand words, Jake stopped in his tracks for a moment and looked at Lo'ak quizzically for a moment as his son briskly got pots, pans, knives, extra firewood, and everything else ready as if it was second nature. But after Jake realized what he was doing, a gentle smile came upon his face, and raised his hand to place it on the top of Lo'ak's head, rubbing his hand up and down his head.
He felt his heart warm at what his son was doing for him, grateful that even after everything, their relationship as father and son had not faltered and that Lo'ak immediately what his dad needed. Lo'ak stopped what he was doing and looked up at his dad but then he mirrored his dad's smile and placed his hand on top of his dad's. There were no words exchanged but they both realized what they were trying to say and do for each other. This is the type of reconciliation that they both needed after everything that separated them before.
After he got what he needed to start dinner, Lo'ak sat down on the floor and looked up to his dad. Jake was still frozen in place, but Lo'ak's smile still hadn't left his face. "Well, I'm sure mom would want to wake up to her favorite food, wouldn't she?" Lo'ak said simply, and that's what made Jake tense as he inhaled a shaky breath. Eventually Jake nodded a soft smile came upon his lips. "Yeah, you're right," He said, finally getting his feet to move forward, walking forward to a corner of their marui to gather the last of the ingredients.
When he retrieved them, Jake walked back and took a seat right next to Lo'ak. After that, the two of them sat in comfortable silence with occasional conversation that resulted in healthy laughter that only brightened up the atmosphere that the events earlier that day caused. The wounds of their relationship began to heal once they sat together and talked to one another, hearing what the other had to say, and spending much-needed time together as father and son. In the end that was all that they needed to mend what was broken.
-
It had been a couple of days and the waiting for you to wake up hadn't gotten any better. Jake hated going to sleep without you by his side, then waking up and remembering where you were and the fact that he couldn't see your face whenever he opened his eyes or even hold you like he used to.
But, he still visited every single day, sitting by your side holding your hand, and rubbing his thumb against your knuckles as he watched your chest rise and fall with every breath. He wished he could stay all day by your side, stay in the healer's tent, but he couldn't leave the kids alone and that's why he was here by your side for as long as he was allowed to, up until the last second when he had to leave.
You were still unconscious and the healers were attentive to any sign you might wake up but you've shown no signs that pointed to that yet. You were comatose now. Jake waited and waited. He sometimes even talked to you about his day, and what the kids did that day, and he updated you on everything even if he knew you couldn't hear him.
Every time he finished spending time by your side, he did the same with Neteyam and sat by his side as well. It stung Jake deep in his heart whenever he saw the unsightly injury of the bullet still healing, but at least the healers wrapped and treated it much better than what they had to do in battle.
They had replaced the temporary seaweed and removed the bullet, and now he was still recovering. The healers say that he would wake up from his temporary coma from the trauma of the gunshot injury any day now. Cases like his are extremely rare, so he should wake up soon, and that gave Jake a lot of reassurance.
This was opposed to you who they had no idea when you'd wake up. Not only did you run out of lung strength and air to go up to the surface, but you suffered trauma from attempted strangling, and also very slight hypothermia from the cold temperature of the ocean at the bottom of the sea floor at Three Brothers Rocks. Jake's blood boiled with anger when he saw what Lyle did to you.
After you were examined and treated, the bruises around your neck had become more prominent and he didn't even want to picture the image in his head of you having gone through something like that alone.
He deeply regrets allowing that monster to hurt you like that and when you woke up, he'd be there by your side no matter what. He wouldn't let anyone hurt you or the children like that ever again.
Now, Jake had finished the time he was allowed to visit you and Neteyam and was now in his tent just tidying up. He wanted you and his son to come back to a clean and comfortable space, and besides it gave him a distraction from all the thoughts running through his head and keeping him anxious. It was early in the afternoon, the sun was out, and the kids were out by the reef playing nearby.
Just as he had been carrying a couple of trinkets from one place to another, he heard fast footsteps approaching the hut. He halted in his tracks as he realized that there were many at once.
Just as he turned around to see who was coming, he was met with Spider, Lo'ak, Kiri, and Tuk all sprinting and stopping right at the entrance of their home.
They all looked incredibly out of breath and the looks on their faces suddenly put Jake on edge and his anxiety spiked. Something happened and he needed to know what it was.
"Dad, Neteyam's awake!" Lo'ak said, and Jake's eyes widened. He didn't need to hear another word. Jake dropped whatever he had in his hands, letting it hit him, and immediately began running alongside his kids to get to the healer's tent. On the way there, his heart couldn't stop beating. He would be able to see his son again, see him alive and well.
His son was okay, and that sent a flurry of relief and happiness through his brain that he just couldn't even comprehend. Now, all that was left was for you to wake up and the family would be together and complete.
As he and the kids made it there, Jake's smile widened even more at the sight before him. There were two healers alongside Neteyam, who was wide awake and still lying on his mat and looking slightly groggy from having just woken up after days of having been asleep.
They were examining his state now that he was awake and wanted to check if everything was in order. When the oldest Sully turned his gaze forward and saw his family standing there with smiles on their faces, he sent them a weak smile and a small wave.
Now that they were here, Jake made a mental note to go check on you briefly after having visited Neteyam and also having the kids see you for a little for as long as it's allowed since you were still being monitored.
But Jake rushed into the side of the tent where Neteyam was and his siblings and Spider were quick to crowd over him with indescribable joy and glee. In their minds, if Neteyam was able to wake up and they got their brother back, so could you, and they couldn't wait for their family to be put back together.
They were immensely happy to be able to be talking to their brother and best friend again."Neteyam...you're okay" Kiri said as she knelt by his head with Tuk next to her, and felt herself getting teary-eyed at seeing the brother she'd considered his twin since they were young, recovering and given a new chance at life.
Kiri heard sniffling and a pair of arms wrapped around hers, so she turned her head and saw Tuk clinging to her sister so tightly as rogue tears left the youngest Sully's eyes. She couldn't believe that after so much hoping and praying he was finally awake. "Did you guys miss me?" Neteyam asked teasingly as the smile he had on his face grew and the kids all laughed, knowing very well what the answer was.
Lo'ak was sitting my Neteyam's head, with Spider next to him so Jake made his way over to the kids and kneeled next to Spider to be able to still speak face to face with his oldest son. One thing he wasn't sure how to explain would be why his mother wasn't here. But, if he wanted to know, he would explain it as best as he could so he'd be in the know.
"How are you feeling, son?" He asked Neteyam to turn his eyes to look at his dad, and the smile that the boy had on his face never faltered. For him, when he was shot and passed out, he wasn't sure if he would ever wake up and see these faces again, but now that he was, he would never wish for anything else but this. But as Neteyam looked around and realized that one person was missing, he ran his eyes across the people around him and took notice of exactly that.
"Hey, where's mom?" Neteyam asked innocently, not knowing what his question entailed. The moment he asked, he could sense that the air and his surroundings turned very tense and not the happy one from a couple of minutes ago. Neteyam looked at everybody trying to read everyone's expressions, and immediately knew that something was very wrong. Why was the mention of you so terrible? Did something happen after he passed out? He remembers seeing you right before that and now you weren't here by his side like the others.
Knowing that nobody else would break the tension, Jake was the one who spoke up first. He would be the one to explain it to Neteyam, and he wouldn't have the kids rehash the painful memories from earlier that day. He would never ask that of them if they weren't ready. He'd take their pain and do everything he could to help them move past it.
"Your mother...she's here in the healing hut as well. After you passed out, she had a complication and is here healing as well. She's not here with you because she's also been unconscious and we don't know when she'll wake up" Jake said as he monitored Neteyam's expression, and tried to be as honest as possible. With every word, his son's eyes widened bit by bit as his mouth hung open. There was silence for a few seconds as the kids stayed quiet and their emotions turned very sullen as Neteyam tried to process what he was hearing.
"What happened to her? What is she healing from?" Neteyam asked with concern, not knowing how he'd react the more he heard the story and explanation. Jake inhaled sharply as Lo'ak placed a hand on his brother's shoulder and Kiri and Tuk placed their hands on top of his on their side. Jake noticed and he got even more nervous to explain it, given that the kids were all preparing to relive it. And without missing a beat and not giving himself a chance to think about it twice.
Jake explained it all and said everything that Spider had told him before about what happened to you. He also proceeded to explain what happened before that, and how the battle unfolded after he passed out. As for Neteyam, he was at a loss for words and he had too many questions. One incredibly ironic thing was how the same man that shot Neteyam and almost killed him, was also the one that nearly killed you.
He wanted to see you, but he knew that you hadn't woken up and that because of his newly treated wounds, he wouldn't be able to stand up for a while too, so he was at a crossroads. He missed so much and it felt like a dagger in his heart when he heard that you'd gotten injured and cornered to the point of near death.
Just like the kids and Jake felt, he felt a sense of deja vu that he had already experienced almost two years before, and now there was something that was missing and that person was you. You should be here with them and not be between life and death.
"And you still don't know when she'll wake up?" Neteyam asked his dad, who seemed to be taking the responsibility of catching him up, and Jake nodded, as painful as it was to admit. The kids nodded as well subconsciously. Neteyam stayed silent for a couple of moments and tried to piece everything together but nothing made sense to him.
How did things escalate so quickly that he woke up and now his mom wasn't with them? He wished he had the strength to stand up and go find you and lay by your side until you woke up. You of all people should have made it out of this unscathed. The moment he got his thoughts in order, he prayed in his mind over and over to Eywa, to give you another chance to live just like he was lucky enough to do.
"Is there anything you need-" Jake started but was then cut off by a voice coming from behind him calling his name. When he turned his head around, the kids had taken it upon themselves to make conversation with Neteyam and try to distract him, all the while Jake was met with the person who was calling for him. It was one of the healers he had been seeing attending to you the last couple of days.
"Jake Sully?" The female Na'vi inquired hoping she had gotten the right person, so when Jake turned around and was met with the eyes of the healer, she smiled gently at him with relief that he had turned around. "Yes?" Jake questioned as he stood up and was now standing in front of the woman, and he quickly analyzed her features. She looked very nervous and uneasy, which worried Jake. Did this have something to do with you? What was happening?
The woman looked behind him to see the kids still nearby, so she looked back at Jake with comprehension and hesitance. "I think we should speak about this elsewhere," She said, and Jake turned his head slightly to the side in confusion, but then nodded slowly and reluctantly as he began to follow the healer to the outside of the healing marui, away from everyone else.
When the two of them were in the clear, Jake crossed his arms and looked at the woman as she cleared her throat and spoke up. Jake analyzed her body language and he couldn't quite place what all the nervousness and fidgeting was for. "What's happening? Did something happen to my wife?" He asked, and once the woman tensed, Jake knew his answer and what this was all about.
The woman was racking her brain on how to start this conversation, but she couldn't think of anything. This wasn't her situation and needed to find a balance as well for how she'll say this to him. "Well...we didn't know if we the healers should be the ones to tell you but with the uncertainty of when y/n will wake up, we decided to break the news to you," The healer said and Jake's eyebrows furrowed. He was only getting more and more confused by the second. Was there a problem with your recovery? Did your comatose state change? He needed to know this woman was beating around the bush.
"Well, what is it?" Jake asked with anxiety and noticed the way the healer inhaled a bit before finally speaking up, feeling that there was no better way to break the news than by just coming out and saying it. "The first time we examined your wife to begin her recovery treatment, we noticed a lot of traits about her physicality that may correlate and relate to ones of pregnancy," The healer said, hoping Jake would start to catch on to what the woman was trying to say. Upon saying that, his eyes widened a fraction, but she could still tell there was a hint of very obvious confusion floating in his eyes.
"What...what are you saying?" Jake needed to ask again his brain was working hard to comprehend what he was being told. He was picking apart the explanation carefully as seconds passed by and the woman decided to go and say everything more clearly so that he could have everything presented to him and he knew all of the details.
"Well the first exam we did on her was last week when she was first brought in, so after seeing the symptoms that we the healers correlated directly to a pregnancy, we waited until today to confirm if the symptoms persisted and they did" The healer continued and kept direct eye contact with your mate as it seems that he finally connected the dots and the woman was at a loss at what else she could say to make to give Jake the sureness that it was real.
"So she's pregnant? Are you sure?" Jake asked as his voice had a very obvious tone of hope for certainty in his voice and he wished he wasn't mishearing what he was being told. His tone was gentle and soft, that was an understatement for the happiness he felt building up inside. The healer nodded, and Jake exhaled a breath he didn't know he was holding as his eyes darted around his surroundings.
"Very much so. From her physical symptoms, after we checked her, your mate is at around 2 to 3 weeks along" She explained with a gentle smile as she watched a smile of disbelief come upon Jake's features. Now his hopes were higher than ever because they wouldn't reveal this to him if they didn't know for sure if you would wake up but now he was certain.
Joy ran through his veins as he realized a part of the dream both of you shared had come true. What a gift that was created with the love the two of you share was now a reality. A baby was growing inside of you, his family would grow and he would raise it with the woman he adored with his entire being.
He would be a father all over again. Suddenly he remembered when you asked him if he would be open to having a kid together, and he recalled saying that he would if it was with her. And now, it came true. Turns out you'd been pregnant at the time and now he needed to know one more thing before he got too excited ahead of time.
But, Jake's face fell when he suddenly remembered the reason why you were in critical care for a reason, and Jake needed to know if there was a chance that the baby would be healthy and have a chance to live despite what happened. If you'd known about this before, he'd be devastated to have you find out that the excitement was for nothing in the end and you'd gotten your hopes up.
"Wait, I have to know. Is- um...is the baby okay? After what happened to her, is it still okay?" He asked, slightly dreading knowing the answer, but to his surprise, the healer sent him a reassuring smile, and a wave of relief washed over him as he knew that he would get a better answer than he was expecting. The chances of you, him, the kids, and the new addition to the family thriving together just became even stronger. Jake was dedicated to you and the kids, and nothing would ever change that.
"Well, we still have to monitor her health during her recovery, but as far as the tests we did go, the baby is very healthy. You brought her in just in time. Any later and the mild hypothermia or the loss of air would have affected it" The woman explained and Jake nodded as he felt relief wash over him. He would take care of you for as long as he lives, and even after the baby is born.
He'd protect his family with his life all over again if it came down to it, and wouldn't think about it twice. After all this fighting, didn't they deserve to live a calm, happy, and peaceful life with his wife and children? He didn't want his mate's children to suffer anymore.
This felt like the door of hope that they desperately needed. After that, the healer excused herself and went back in, leaving Jake outside the tent as he tried to process the information he had just given. But what he did know is that he felt happy, he was relieved, and he was content. He didn't want to fight anymore, and he wanted his children and his wife to no longer have to live in fear.
All that fighting had paid off because not only was your chance of waking up growing exponentially but you were growing inside you a gift from Eywa that was a product of yours and his love into one, and he couldn't wait to hear them inherit your laugh, your smile, your kindness, and everything about you.
Jake briefly looked inside the hut to see if he could spot you amongst the other people they were treating, and when he did, he couldn't help but let his smile beam at the mere sight of you, peacefully in your slumber, to which you would wake up from any moment now. You and his children were a gift to him that he would never take for granted. He'll make that known every single day.
The moment that the healer walked back inside, Jake was left outside the hut. He replayed the news he had just gotten over and over in his head, and he couldn't contain the smile that was coming upon his lips. He wanted to celebrate it with you and tell you that the baby was okay even after everything. He placed a hand over his mouth as his smile only grew. The moment he heard you were pregnant, it seemed like time stopped for a second and it all felt like it was coming full circle. He'd felt like all hope was lost for his family and the future he wanted for them.
All that suffering and agony lead up to this. To his son waking up and being given a new chance, to you being gifted with a baby that he knows you'll be an incredible mother for as you've already been for the rest of your children. Jake wanted to make it to this point, as unreachable as it felt at one point, and it felt surreal that it happened. There was nowhere else he would rather be than right now, knowing there was a bright future waiting for his family. Jake laughed out loud in disbelief as he placed his hands on top of his head and looked up to the darkening sky.
Before he could even think about it for another second, something that came from inside the tent startled him, and he heard a commotion from inside, followed by gasps and the voices of his kids. He didn't even have a chance to question what it was because Lo'ak suddenly rushed out of the tent with his eyes wide and a beaming smile on his face that looked like they would spark with tears of happiness at any moment.
Jake was about to speak up, but Lo'ak beat him to it and his son's words made his heart skip a beat and almost leap out of his body. "Dad! Mom's awake!" Lo'ak exclaimed, with a tone that indicated that not even he believed it yet but he knew he had to tell his dad as soon as possible.
Jake didn't even wait for another second to follow after Lo'ak inside the tent and to where you were. Your mate darted his eyes everywhere to find you, desperate to be with you, talk to you, and do every single one of the things he's been wanting to do for the last week.
His stomach was starting to churn in anticipation, it was so sudden. The healers said they didn't know when you'd wake up, but is it possible he'd be able to see you again today? He wanted to hear your voice, to tell him that you were okay and that you were alive and well. Every second he looked around felt like hours as he couldn't spot you anywhere in the healing tent, so he continued to follow after Lo'ak.
It was after what felt like an eternity of mapping out people's faces left and right that his eyes finally locked onto yours and he realized that you were looking at him too. Your eyes were lidded and you had a soft smile on your face. God, he was so happy to see you again like this. It felt like a mirage to him, and it didn't seem real at all. His eyes drifted to who was next to you and he noticed that Neteyam's mat was moved next to yours.
He should've expected it, after all, Neteyam was dejected about not being by his mother's side and probably requested to be moved so they could recover together. It was a heartwarming realization.
As for the kids, they were clinging to you, and even in your groggy and slightly sleepy state, you found a way to embrace all of them. Kiri and Tuk were cuddled up on one side while Lo'ak who had already made it back to his seat next to you that he had taken before bringing his dad in was now tightly holding your hand.
Neteyam was also awake and relishing in how his family was complete at last. Everyone made it, and they were all alive and well. Jake was the only one who couldn't seem to break eye contact with you, and he simply couldn't move, he couldn't speak either. He had been preparing for this moment and now it was finally here faster than he could've expected.
Eventually, he was able to get his feet to move and he began to sprint across the tent as fast as his legs allowed him to. Seeing that his dad was approaching, Lo'ak moved a little to the side because he knew his dad probably wanted to talk to you and spend much-needed time together.
Your smile grew as you watched him reach you and kneel by your head and his hand immediately went to your cheek as heat began to gather behind his eyes once reality started to set in and he began to realize that this was real.
Your eyes were on full display, looking at him so much love that he could barely stand it. He could see that tears were clouding your eyes just as much as his, and as a stray tear left your eye, he wiped it away with his thumb as he chuckled in disbelief and the hand that was on your cheek, traveled up to your hair and gently tucked stray strands of hair behind your ear.
For you, it felt like a dream and completely surreal that you were getting to see Jake again, feeling like in what felt like your last moments, you had taken for granted the last time you saw him and taking a moment to remember everything about him. His face, his voice, and everything that you fell so deeply in love with and that you had wanted to see one last time.
The moment he touched your cheek, it sent a shock through your body that made you shiver as a tear fell down your cheek and you realized that Eywa was giving you another shot at life. But your smile turned into a frown when you saw that he had tears in his eyes. The sight shattered your heart and you felt it sink.
Jake felt like his ability to breathe had been stripped away and just like he had done for you, you lifted a weak hand and wiped his tears away. He involuntarily leaned into your touch, closing his eyes and exhaling shakily.
Your lips trembled as your eyes darted to every feature in his face, and you lightly guided his head so that he could make eye contact with you again. "Jake, love, look at me..." You whispered softly and Jake felt himself crumble at hearing your voice again.
More tears streamed down his, and so much so, that you lifted your other arm that you were using to hold your daughters as they snuggled into your further and you cupped his other cheek and brought Jake down so that his forehead was pressed against his. You moved your hands from his cheeks to be around his shoulders and he moved his head from yours and tucked it against the curve of your neck.
You felt your breath hitch painfully as you felt tears on your neck and that only made you hold him even tighter. He started whispering sweet nothings in your ear, and promising that everything was okay now. He would never let anyone hurt you or the kids ever again. He never wanted to feel what it would be like to live without you ever again.
He was quick to do the same and wrapped his arms around your shoulders, but not too tightly as he knew how fragile you were. You felt his back start to shudder and shake, so you knew he was crying. You couldn't imagine how long he'd been holding back what he was feeling for the sake of the kids.
In the span of just a couple months of being with each other, Jake and you both individually realized that you were each other's gift from Eywa and that each other's hearts belonged to nobody else but one another. They met each other, healed together, broke into pieces, and put each other back together in order to get back to where you are now. Without fate, Jake wouldn't have believed in love anymore, his children would have never met the best mother figure he would have ever asked the universe for, and you would have never filled that piece of your life that was missing.
Instinctively, trying to ignore the wrenching feeling in your heart, you began to run your hands along his back, pressing your head against his shoulder. The kids watched their parents be reunited and their hearts felt full. Their lives felt complete now and they could begin to heal together. Everyone they cared about was here and that was exactly how they wanted it to be. They didn't want anything to change.
"Y/n, please...don't ever do that to me again" Jake whispered shakily as his body continued to shake and you blinked a couple of times to keep your tears at bay. You loved him so much that you would thank Eywa every day for letting you see him and the kids again. "I'm so sorry, I'm sorry. It's okay, love. I promise I'm here. I love you so, so much," You said softly as you moved one hand to run it through his head, while you felt him press gentle kisses on your neck, relishing your presence for as long as time allowed him to.
Upon hearing those words he lifted his head from your neck and his head hovered over yours, and locked eyes with you, with his gaze never straying from yours. "I love you," He whispered once, and for the first time in what felt like forever, he kissed your lips and parted briefly to say it again. You missed that so much. "I love you, so much," He said with a look on his face that only expressed pure love and devotion to you.
His gaze was soft, and so was his touch. He would never take it for granted ever again. You exhaled a deep breath you had been holding in your lungs and smiled at him as tears resurfaced in your eyes again.
As much as he'd want to be as close to you as possible, Jake realized that the kids probably wanted to talk to you too, and catch up. He also wanted to find the perfect moment to let you know that he knew about the pregnancy and he wanted to let you know how happy he was about it.
Jake sat up a bit but kept his hand next to your head so he could stroke your hair and the kids all scooted closer and began to make conversation.
Kiri told you how she and Tuk had shown Spider around the village and how Lo'ak had been helping his dad with tasks around the village and inside their home. They all caught you up on everything and you listened intently, chiming in and causing them much-needed laughter whenever you made a witty comment that made them laugh or even brought smiles to their faces by giving them the praise they deserved for everything that they've done. before, during, and after the battle. You were proud of your children and you'd let it be known.
After Kiri mentioned Spider you took notice of the human boy sitting by your legs and he seemed to be pretty cautious, with the way he was staying quiet and only talking here and there. You suddenly remembered what happened at the ship and your heart sank a little. I hope he knew you didn't mean to get as aggressive as you did or plan to hurt him at all.
You were both taken away by emotion and too caught up in battle. You hoped he didn't resent you. Yet, you still didn't know that he was the one who saved your life just as you had contributed to saving his. You wanted to take the initiative and let him know that you hoped there weren't any hard feelings there.
Taking a small breath, you spoke up. "Spider?" You said softly, and the boy upon hearing his name straightened up as he felt eyes on him and he heard someone call his name. He looked up and saw that it was you who had called him. "Yes, Mrs. Sully?" He asked, not wanting to cross any boundaries, but you smiled gently at what he used to refer to you and chuckled.
"You can call me y/n," You said in the same motherly tone that you used with your children and Spider felt himself instantly relaxed at that. He nodded and chuckled nervously. Jake watched this interaction and it felt appropriate for him to hint at who was the one who he owed for saving the love of his life and the only reason his mate was alive. He deserved all the credit.
"Y/n, did you ever wonder who got you out of the water?" Jake inquired and y/n tilted her head in confusion as you looked up at your husband, you tilted your head and realized that thought never crossed your mind. You shook your head and with a chuckle, Jake used his head to gesture at the human boy, when you made the connection and looked at Spider, your eyes softened you smiled gratefully at the boy. You had no idea you were able to live because of him.
Because of him, you were here right now and you owed him your life. This boy was so kind-hearted and compassionate that he was every bit of a Na'vi as the ones he grew up around. He was one of you and he would always be.
The resentment you thought there was suddenly wafted up in the air and you realized everything was good. "Thank you, Spider," You said simply with the gentle smile you had on your face never faltering, and with those simple words, Spider nodded and knew those were all the words you needed to express your gratitude for what he did.
Your smile beamed even more when you saw that the stress that seemed to have a tense hold on his body was dissipating and he was much more relaxed. That reassurance was all he really needed all this time. Before any of the kids or you and Jake could continue your respective conversations, you felt footsteps approaching you and your family along with hearing fast patterns getting closer. Before you could question it further, you heard your name.
"Y/n! You're okay!" Zara said as she came into the healer's tent, kneeling next to Spider as she looked at you with so much relief and love. She couldn't believe you were looking right back at her, it felt surreal after everything that happened and she couldn't express how happy it made her to know her best friend had woken up after a week of agonizing waiting to see if you would ever come back, and you did.
To her, you were the strongest person she's ever known, and knew for sure that you would fight against all odds to make it back to those you fought for and loved so dearly. There was still some guilt gnawing inside of her for failing to protect your children as she promised, and it was all Zara had been thinking about as she waited for you to wake up.
When Zara brought this up to you, you reassured her that in the end, everyone made it and that it was okay. Your children were okay, your husband was okay, and you were okay. It all worked out. The enemy was gone, at least for the most part, and now there was only peace to look forward to. Your words nearly brought Zara to tears, having always loved how understanding you are and always looking forward no matter what.
She had been feeling so guilty, and those words of reassurance for what happened back there in battle was all Zara needed. She could begin to move forward as well. This battle affected everyone in different ways, and the healing process began with acceptance, reassurance, moving on, and seeing things in different lights.
Everyone started somewhere and it was never easy, but just as Zara felt like she could do it with you by her side, the same could be said for you. She was your support system and you wouldn't let things that happen in the heat of battle come in the way of it, and neither would Zara.
Eventually sensing that you and Jake wanted to talk alone and have a moment for yourselves, with the promise of being able to come back soon, Zara started to gather up the kids except for Neteyam, and guided them out of the hut. As begrudgingly as they moved, Kiri, Tuk, Lo'ak, and Spider all stood up and followed Zara out of the hut.
That left you and Jake alone, and Neteyam had sometime along the reminiscing gotten very drained so he was now asleep. You looked to the side and saw your saw completely out of it, making you chuckle a bit as you turned your head back to Jake.
Now that the kids left, he took it upon himself to hold you the way he'd been longing for from the moment you and him got separated. He had adjusted himself to lay on his side with half of his body on you, being careful not to crush you. Before he completely lay down, Jake propped himself up on his forearms and looked down at you.
You could tell he had something to say so you waited expectantly and looked up at him, patiently. Knowing you read his mind and knew he had something to say, Jake's eyes darted all over your face as he tried to think of a way to bring this up. This was a good thing, and if the battle hadn't happened when it did, he knew back then you wanted to tell him.
You two needed to talk about it alone before saying anything to the kids, so this was the perfect opportunity to do exactly that. Without thinking about it too much, Jake raised his hand and placed it against your cheek as he brushed his thumb against your cheekbone. He inhaled sharply and simply came out with it without letting his mind make him chicken out.
"And y/n...I know," Jake says with a gentle smile, and for a second you gave him a quizzical expression and you tilted your head to the side. But then when he moved his hand from your cheek and placed it against your stomach, you looked down and your eyes widened, immediately looking up as you connected the dots. You were at a loss for words. How did he find out? You had been planning to tell him for weeks the perfect way and now he knew. How did he feel about it? Was he upset? Was he disappointed? Did he want it? Your mind swam in an endless sea of questions. You opened your mouth to talk but nothing came out.
Jake studied your expressions and reactions, making him chuckle. Eventually, you simply settled with; "How did you find out?" You asked hesitantly, and as Jake rubbed his hand back and forth on your stomach, remembering there was life under his fingertips, he answered.
"When you were unconscious, the healer told me that for the last week, they'd been doing tests to make sure you were pregnant after they examined you the first time you came in and saw symptoms. They confirmed it just before you woke up" He said, and you were at a loss. Your mouth was agape, you didn't know what to say. At least all the nausea and the symptoms you correlated to pregnancy before did mean what you thought they did.
You still couldn't decipher from his tone how he felt about this. He didn't seem upset, he didn't seem like he was against it, and with how gentle he was being with the area around your stomach, your hope began to rise at the possibility that he really may want this as much as you. You've only discussed it once but never brought it up again after that.
Not knowing what else to say, and this being the only question you thought to ask at this moment. You needed to know what he thought. "How...how do you feel about it? I..was scared to tell you. I wasn't sure how you'd react or if you really wanted it. We didn't talk about it a lot, and with everything else going on, I was really unsure" You said, and when you expected Jake to give you a verbal response what you got was the opposite but also pretty much answered your question.
He smiled down at you and kissed your lips in a long, sweet, and firm kiss. You felt him smile into the kiss, making butterflies swarm in your belly. He pulled away after a few seconds, leaving you slightly breathless and you opened your eyes to see that the smile still on his lips. He looked into your eyes with a look that felt so foreign to you but still managed to send shivers down your spine and the butterflies in your stomach multiplied.
"I think...I want to have a baby with you" He said and his response made a smile, little by little, grow on your lips. With no warning, you wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled down to you. He still had half of his body on you and proceeded to wrap both of his arms around your waist and tuck his face in your neck once again as he breathed you in.
"We're having a baby..." You whispered in his ear, and when you felt him wrap his arms around you even tighter, you felt his breath dust against your neck as he responded. "We are...we're having a baby," He said, making you let out a gentle laugh of disbelief as your arms tightened around him. But he wasn't done.
"They're going to be so beautiful. I know that they'll have your laughter, your smile, your eyes, your incredible compassion, kindness, bravery, and strength. Everything about you" Jake went on and on and the more he spoke, the more you felt like you'd burst into tears right then and there. You were glad he couldn't see you because you were doing everything in your power to hold back tears. He wanted this, just like you did. You'd raise it together and grow this family even more. Both of you would make this work no matter what.
After that conversation, you and Jake deemed it necessary to tell the kids, though Tuk had already known since you had told her on the ship. When they all came back to the healing Marui and Neteyam had woken up, you and Jake broke the news of the pregnancy which was received with nothing but joy. Tuk went on about how she was the first one to know, Kiri and Lo'ak were incredibly happy to know that they would have a little sibling soon and were quick to ask questions to feed their curiosity, same with Neteyam who congratulated their parents and hugged them as he could without being too harsh on his own injuries.
Spider also congratulated you, feeling happy that he also contributed to this baby being able to be born. If he hadn't gotten to you before or hadn't seen you, it would've been an entirely different story. The section of the healing Marui where the Sully's was bustling, and even more when Zara, Ronal, and Tonowari found out later that day and felt incredibly happy for you and Jake to be expecting. Zara couldn't wait to know more about what you had planned for the baby, and if you and Jake had thought about anything regarding it. And she got even more excited and completely ecstatic when you told her she'd be the godmother.
Other people got to congratulate you as well like Tsireya and Ao'nung, who found out you had not only woken up that same day but also the pregnancy news. It was just a joyful day and this is the first step towards recovering and healing that y/n hoped to push forward her people to a new phase of seeing happier days amongst the Na'vi and Metkayina. This was one of the many things that helped me take that step forward.
For the Olo'eyktan and Tsahik, it felt bittersweet. You mated, got a family, and were now expecting. You were no longer the little girl that they knew, but a woman fit to be a leader and a mother. Since you couldn't leave the healing Marui just yet, you hated to say goodbye to your family, but at least still had Neteyam by your side to keep you company.
The last people who visited were the people you've considered your mentors your entire life up until now. The two of them stopped by to talk to you, and knowing that you had made it through such an experience, they wanted to make things right now that you had so much to look forward to and so many things to begin to leave in the past.
That talk consisted of going into detail about everything that happened these last few weeks when things spiraled out of control. All three of you agreed that it was not worth it to continue like this and that this battle and the aftermath was a wake-up call to always keep close to who you love because life was unpredictable, and the battlefield was unpredictable. It was water under the bridge and they wanted to be there with you through this new part of your life.
After this incident, it gave them the reality check that they needed and that they shouldn't focus on trivial things of the past. Because if this situation taught them anything, is that they regretted not having patched things up before knowing if they'd live to see another day. None of that conflict was worth it and they wanted to move past it, just like you did. And after that talk, it felt like a weight had been lifted that had been desperately trying to be healed, and it finally did. These were new beginnings and you were doing it right this time.

- A YEAR LATER -
It has been a year since the battle against Quaritch and the Sky People and the Metkayina have been thriving more than ever. The people have healed, they have moved on, they have gone back to their regular lives and the advances for the villages all over were better than ever. Jake had contributed alongside Tonowari to strengthen the Metkayina, to make the Na'vi stronger in case there was a repeat of what happened a year before didn't have the same outcome. It was inevitable that the Sky People would invade more and more of Pandora, but now they'd be ready.
Jake had also stayed in touch with Norm and Max back in the forest and the Omaticaya and they said the resistance was making good advances to push out the Sky People, giving Jake so much more reassurance that they were making progress on many sides of the planet. Right now, in Awa'atlu it was a new day, the sky was bright and blue, the waves were crashing melodiously against the shores of the beaches of the village and the Metkayina had all started their daily tasks of the day. The water was soothing, especially for Eylti te Suli Tsyeyk'ite, your beautiful daughter.
After months of pregnancy, your beautiful daughter was born a couple of months and she was the most precious little girl. She had bits of you and Jake that made you melt every time you looked at her. It was early in the morning, the boys were out hunting with Ao'nung and Rotxo, the girls were making crafts with Tsireya and you were nursing your daughter, given that she woke up a couple of minutes ago and Jake had left a couple minutes to hunt for some breakfast for you and him, and some lunch for the kids when they come back from their activities. You were standing outside your family hut, in the paths, with her in your arms.
You named your daughter after your spirit sister and you missed her every single day. This was just a reminder that what she did for Ronal and her spirit sister lived on, and how much she changed your life since you were young. Jake was immediately on board with the name and there was no discussion on what your baby's name would be, he thought it was absolutely perfect. And it had meaning to you, so he loved it. Besides, you thought Jake had proposed some unusual names for the baby, so the two of you had gone back to square on your ideas. So you settled on Eylti.
As you held your daughter in your arms with one hand under her head and another holding her little body, she cooed and giggled, stretching out her little arms, reaching out as if wanting to touch the water from the distance she was at. You wanted to introduce her to the water soon, because you know Metkayina prepares their children from a young age to get used to the ocean, to ride ilus, and to explore their home.
You smiled gently as your daughter clapped her hands as she saw a couple of's leap out of the water. "Did you see that? Look at the ilu." You asked your daughter in a sweet motherly tone that never made your daughter smile up at you. You lowered your head, nudging your nose against hers, making her giggle and reach up with grabby hands at you and place them on your cheeks. You were smiling so much you knew your cheeks were going to hurt later, but you couldn't help it.
She was the product of the love you and Jake shared. The labor was long and arduous, and Jake had been sitting behind you holding your hands the entire time, pressing comforting kisses against your head. He was so encouraging during the entire labor, as painful as it was. The cries that could be heard in the delivery Marui and resonated everywhere leaving you speechless that your daughter was finally born and she was here.
When she was cleaned up and handed to you, the resemblance between you and Jake was uncanny. From you, Eylti had your same turquoise skin and arms, legs, and tail with fins that all Metkayina had, and from Jake, she had big, doe, golden eyes that stared back at you and Jake so innocently as she took in the surroundings of her parents and the world she was born into. She had ears just like Jake as well, and not the smaller ones Reef Na'vi have. She had dark hair that had a mix of straight and curly strands alike, she had 5 fingers just like Jake and no eyebrows. She was absolutely perfect and still struggled to believe you and Jake made her. After naming her, you hoped she became as strong and resilient as your spirit sister had always been.
Her siblings were obsessed with her, always wanting her attention. Kiri was the one who spent the most time with her new sister and made as many memories with her as possible. She even made a small bracelet for her and got started on making her baby sister's first-ever songcord. Tuk was a close second, given that she was the other youngest Sully and loved having a baby sister. Neteyam was the best older brother, just as he had been for all of his other siblings, and Lo'ak couldn't wait for her to be old enough so that he could take her on adventures as brother and sister.
Now, the two of you stood out in the morning air as you waited for Jake to come back. Eylti was wrapped in a blanket weaved by Kiri as well, and you always had her sleep with it because it seemed like she loved to sleep with it and loved to have it wrapped around her. As the two of you stood outside in silence amongst Eylti's small giggles and the crash of the waves, you were so entranced by the morning atmosphere that you failed to notice the presence of your husband arriving and moving to stand behind you. You only noticed his presence, when you recognized his arms wrapping around you from behind, knocking you out of your thoughts.
You leaned back against his chest, feeling as he rested his chin against your shoulder, and then quickly pressed a kiss against the skin there as a silent greeting. Noticing the presence of his dad Eylti looked up and squealed with joy as she made grabby hands upwards. Jake raised one of the hands that he had around your waist and lifted it to stroke his daughter's cheek gently, making her giggle. You smiled at what Jake was doing and moved your head up to press a kiss against his cheek.
"How are my two girls? I brought some food" Jake said as he leaned his head against yours, and he pressed yet another kiss but to the side of your head. You smiled and looked down at Eylti who had redirected her eyes and focused back on the ocean. "We're good. She's been looking at the ocean all morning. I think we should introduce her to it soon, she's old enough" You said as you stroked her hair with the hand you had under her head. You saw Jake nod in agreement in the corner of your eye.
"Whenever you think she's ready, I'll be right behind you" Jake kissed your cheek and pulled away from you as he walked inside the tent with his bag of fish he caught. You smiled and followed right behind him. Somehow, Eylti had dozed off when you two were outside and when you and Jake were talking so you walked over to the hammock she sleeps in that Neteyam and Lo'ak made together, with weaved details by Tuk.
It was positioned right next to the mat you and Jake slept in, just in case of any moments she woke up during the night or she was hungry. After placing Eylti in her hammock, pulling her blanket on top, and placing a kiss on her head, you walked back over to Jake and helped him get everything sorted out for lunch by the time the kids came back for dinner.
When you sat next to Jake and began rummaging through the nets he brought, you halted a bit in your tracks when you noticed that Jake wasn't completely sitting down and he had placed one of his hands over yours. You looked up at him, and before you could ask him what was wrong, he suddenly stood up and pulled you up with him. You giggled as he turned you around, put his hands on your waist, and lowered the two of you to sit against the wall of the Sully's Marui. You sat between his legs, his arms wrapped tightly around your waist, and you leaned your head and your body back against him and felt him press a kiss against your neck. You shivered slightly at his touch but gave in anyway.
"What about the food?" You asked as you moved your head and looked up at him. He had a fond look on his face and placed a couple of kisses on your temple. He was being so clingy today, more than usual and it made you wonder, but you decided not to question it and just enjoy it. "The food can wait, let's just sit here" He muttered and tightened his grip around you. You smiled and snuggled against him. Jake loved doing this, just sitting with you in his arms as the two of you listened to the sounds of the ocean, the rippling of the water, the wind, the chatter of the Metkayina outside. It had become one of your favorite ways to spend time with him.
You exhaled and felt a chill going down your body. This is the life you wanted, the life you and Jake fought for, the life that your people and those you loved sacrificed themselves for. It was so calm, so beautiful, that you never thought you'd ever get to this point. Jake has expressed to you the exact same thing. You were given a second chance at living and you took advantage of every second you were so lucky to have been given. Your children were happy, and healthy, and were growing up with the future you envisioned for them.
Your husband was making a name for himself in the village, he was respected and was making such a big impact on the Na'vi and other villages alongside Tonowari. You were a mother, you were going to be Tsahik, and Jake was first in line to be Olo'eyktan as well. Jake still kept in touch with the Omaticaya and lent his help in whatever way he could. There's no other person Tonowari trusted more than Jake for the job and the two of you would be the image of leadership that the clan needed. Fate gave the Sullys a second chance, and the bond they created with each other would never be broken, even between life and death.
Your existence gave Jake hope, and it gifted the two of you the future that you fought so hard for. You wouldn't let life or death try to separate you again.
