Author's POV

Standing in front of Cafe, Iris again thought about her decision. The decision to accept her offer to meet and talk.

Iris wasn't ready earlier but then the curiosity inside her, Athena's mother's words made her think upon the truth

She wanted to know whether they were in relationship or not. Whether she is a third wheeler in them or not.

She took a deep breath, again thinking about all these. She doesn't what she will do if her assumptions will be proven right. Should she leave Xavier so he can be with someone he love?

Or should she stay as his wife, making all three of them suffer?

This all depends on the truth Athena might say today.

She quickly entered inside, roaming her eyre around she tried spotting Athena. Her eyes stopped at a slim figure sitting in a corner. She walked toward ger direction with a beating heart. Her hand shaking her nervousness as she approached her.

"I am sorry, The traffic was kinda harsh today.."

Iris said as she stopped on front of her. Athena looked at her like she came out of her thought just now, surprised. She too stood up in greeting her and shook her head.

"It's okay. I wasn't waiting for much time.."

Saying they both sat on there respective seats. Iris was feeling so nervous. Her lips were between her teeths trying to have herself together as much as she can. She saw Athena calling a waiter. She ordered two coffee for both of them. Soon the coffee arrived,Till then they both stayed silent.

Athena too was sitting, not knowing how to start. She was a confident women but this matter, this is her weakness. She then took a deep breath, collecting her thoughts together she started.

"Iris... first of all thank you for accepting my offer to meet and I am so sorry about My mother's behavior. It was so unexpected and unexplainable behavior of her.."

Iris just nodded. She too was hurt by her mother's behavior to even say it's okay. Iris rubbed her hand together trying to gain confidence to look on her eyes while she confess but got none.

Athena looked at Iris to see her reaction when she said nothing, very expected of her she saw was hurt. Athena again took a deep breath

"I-I know what you must be thinking...and it's not wrong of you to think that. If I was on your place, I would have thought exactly what's in your mind."

This line caught iris attention. She looked up at her in confusion.

"But you need to trust me-Trust Xavier with this one...there isn't anything you are thinking"

Iris frown at this. What does she mean by this? Athena forwarded her hand and grabbed her in her. Iris's eyes snapped at her trying to know what she is doing.

Athena looked In her eyes, which were filled with different emotions, emotions which were forbidden for her.

"I'll never say I didn't love him. I do! With all my heart and soul."

Iris felt her mouth opening in shock. She-Athena kept looking at her, her own eyes unknowingly filled with tears. She-Iris felt her heart getting frozen. Athena looked down trying to control her tears.

"But I'll also never say the whatever my mother said is right. We were never in relationship."

A unknown relief showered over hearing her but soon a frown marred on her brows.

Athena kept quite after saying this much. It was the bitter truth She know.

"What does that means?"

Iris asked for the very first time. Athena, whose eyes were filled with painful tears looked up. Iris saw how her lips tugged in a small but painful smile. For a lady like Athena it was very heartbreaking to see her in this state.

"That mean, I love him but he didn't. I doubt he even remember my full name."

Saying she laughed like it was a joke but Iris know, it was anything but joke! She saw how a tear escaped from her eyes. She gulped her own saliva before she say anything eles again.

"Whatever my mother Said, was her imagination. Nothing more. "

Saying this she-Athena took a deep breath like trying to collect her and looked at Iris who was stunted sitting on her place.

Iris was confused as much as she was in relief, she wasn't able to understand her motive.Why she did that? Confession the truth? She would have played her game and tried separating them but she didn't.

Why?

"Why?"

Iris voice out her thoughts. Athena who was gulping coffee trying to distract herself looked up. Iris saw her eyes were red, like she wanted to cry but was controlling herself.

"Huh?"

"Why you said this to me? I mean the truth? You could have taken advantage of this and tried separation us...why you didn't?"

Hearing her Athena's face stretched into a beautiful smile. She leaned forward but her eyes weren't on iris. It was like she was imagining something, even she has a smile on she asked.

"Do you ever fall in love iris?"

Her voice was like she was at peace. Her eyes reflecting the depth of her feelings. Iris quietly shook her head.

Ira truth that she is married to Xavier but about love? She doesn't know....Yet.

Athena smiled got bigger seeing her response. She looked at girl sitting in front of her with love, Iris was too cute for her own good.

"Then Iris, you might think of you as a insane person but when you love someone from your heart. All you want is there happiness. Everything In your life started to revolve around them. In my case, I know what he want. As much as it hurt me. This isn't me what he wants."

Iris felt the pain in her voice. She felt her heart clenching at this. But the look on Athena face was like she doesn't care much.

"How do you know that he doesn't wants you? Wait! Did you ever confessed?"

Athena looked the little girl in front of her. She is yet to discover many things about her husband.

"I know because he isn't my husband. I know because he never looked at me like I an the most beautiful women in the world. I know because he never looked at me like he wants to protect me? Cherish me all his life. "

Iris looked at her deeply. Trying to understand the meaning behind her words.

"I know because he never focused on me. He never cared about me other than professional. I know because his Locker where he kept his personal thing never had my pictures. And yes, I never confessed. It was hopeless."

Iris heard her saying this all with great focus. She didn't utter a single word in between. Each and every word of Athena made her feel the pain she went through. But looking at her face she can say, she is a very brave women. Iris wonder why won't anyone want her? Bring this brave and confident she should have atlest fought once but Here she was, crying over.

"Y-You love him a lot...no? then why aren'tyou fighting for your love?"

Iris felt something unsettled inside while saying this to her. But her innocent heart was too occupied in feeling her pain that she ignored her.

Hearing him Athena looked at her with her head little tilted. She had a small smile on. It wasn't painful or sometime. It was peaceful.

"Love? He live in my soul. And that's why I am letting him go without any fight. I would have fought but for whom should I fight? When I know he is happy where he is. He is where he desired. He is with her whom he wanted all along. Then what's the meaning of that fight?"

Her every word made Iris feel more horrible. She was somehow feeling like culprit behind all this. But her Athena's words were making her feel little confuse too. She-Iris this time opened her mouth to say something not as his wife but as a normal girl...May be a friend.

"Why do you love him so much?"

"Who won't fall in love with a man like Xavier? Even if we keep the looks aside, he is the person anyone will desire. He is caring, sensible, mature, Well settled. You tell me Iris isn't Xavier caring?"

Hearing this much good things about her own husband, she felt unknowingly proud. But the question in last made her stop.

Him and caring?

Iris remember how he use to ignore her, use to made her feel unwanted but soon her mind went to the new iris she saw after there marriage. He was something new, something much better.

She remember how he consoles her, she remember how he is helping her. How much he charged after there marriage? She never thought. A small smile graced her lips remember his forehead kisses, his small but cute talks.

Yes! Xavier is a lot caring.

"Yes, he is..."

Iris Said, still lost in his thoughts. Athena laughed softy at her, she shook her head a little. Athena was seeing her young self in her. At the age of 28, she know the struggle of young life. She never had a father or brother to protect her but in Iris case, she has whole knight family to protect her. Especially Xavier.

"I know he is, and that's why as a well wisher I'll only suggest you too understand him as soon as you can. Because people like Xavier aren't much and you are lucky to have him as your husband. Cherish him before you lose him.."

Athena said soflty. Her voice held pure wishes which iris felt. Hearing this much about him, while getting reminded again and again that he is her husband she blushed.

"H-He isn't that good..he is rude too"

She said cutely. Her voice low but Athena heard everything. She again laughed at the little girl.

Oh baby how wrong you are....

"Rude? Iris seriously? He can be rude to anyone but with you? Tsk tsk tsk i won't believe!"

"H-He is!"

Athena laughed hard at this. She now was understanding why Xavier is all over her.

"Oh my sweet cheek, then you are yet to discover more about your dear husband."

She Said making Iris confused. What more she needs to discover?

"What?"

But before Athena can answer, her phone ringed up. Excusing herself she picked her call which only lasted foe few seconds.

"I am so sorry Iris but we need to cut this short. I hope you don't mind?"

Athena said collecting her stuff. Iris too sobered up and sat staight ready to get up. Once they both were standing they walked toward there respective cars when Athena called Iris.

"Again I am sorry for the misunderstanding my mother created. And sorry if my words hurt you but as a well wisher I'll only suggest to give him-Your relationship a chance whole heartily before it's too late. Accept him and you will know how much of a great person he is. Okay? He really deserves your chance. "

Saying she hugged Iris before pulling away and looked at her for a second before going inside her car.

"Take care and have a good married life"

Iris can feel it was genuine. This whole meeting made her stunted.

Here she expected Athena to confess and beg to leave him for her, she whol heartily left him even after loving him this much.

Iris saw how pyre love him, she saw how happy she was when she was talking about him. Athena know Xavier in much better way than she dose? But as she said.

He isn't her husband, he is hers. May be this is thr clue to give this marriage a chance? May be this is a clue to finally a Accept the fact that he is her husband. Iris can see he was already changing himself for her. Then why should she?

It was close to strike 12 in night. And Iris was pacing in room, there was no trace of sleep in her eyes. But that wasn't the problem. Problem was it was his birthday next day.

And she wasn't able to decide whether she should call him to wish his birthday or not. Her whole existence was shivering by there mare fact that how he will react.

She picked her phone and opened it. She was about to call him when her phone brighten up and his name flashed.

Her heart started to beat fastely. Her hands started to shiver. She kept looking at the caller ID with her hooded eyes. Not having the courage to accept the call.

In her inner turmoil the ringing stopped and the call was cut. Iris closed her eyes tightly cursing herself but before she can say anything more there was a another call. From him again.

This time without wasting anymore time she picked it up. Keeping it near get ear she Stayed silent.

"Kitten?"

She heard his breathless voice. It was husky which made her blush. She bite her lips at his voice unknowingly. She took a deep breath which he heard too. And without wasting anymore minutes she decided to wish him in her over excited voice.

"H-Happy birthday Xavier "

Her lips formed in a big smile as soon as she confessed. She waited for him to thank her or say something eles but what he said next made her smile faded. Her heart frozen while all excitement died down. Saying that he cut the call making the little cry.

"Iris, we need to talk!"
