Inspector Lestrade stared with wide eyes at the red haired woman. How did she know about the existence of the Doctor? And above all, how did she know he was coming? "I beg your pardon?" was what he asked, a bit perplexed.
The woman bit her lip. "Please, you have to listen to me. He's coming. Send them away before it is too late!"
Lestrade gave in and fixated his eyes upon the crowd swirling around 221b Baker Street. He could not take the chance of reporters seeing a blue police box appearing out of nowhere. This woman probably knew the Doctor and he had send her to get everyone away in time. At the moment, Lestrade did not wonder why the Doctor didn't park his space ship somewhere else if he knew there was a huge crowd.
"All right, time to move out," he shouted at the reporters but the only thing they did was flashing more pictures of him and the woman. Lestrade let out a sigh and decided to play a different game. "Well then, if you guys aren't going, see for yourself." He pushed his way through the crowd and walked towards his car.
"Where are you going then, Inspector?" one reporter decided to ask, dumbfolded.
"To the press conference, of course." He paused and almost laughed by seeing their confused looks. "That one by the police station?" he added. And in a flick of a moment, reporters assembled their gear and started to speed walk away. Nobody was paying attention anymore to the Inspector and when the last few reporters had disappeared, Lestrade closed the door of his car and smiled at the woman.
"There... All gone. Now, tell me, who are you and how did you know about the Doctor?" Lestrade crossed his arms, demanding to hear a truthful answer with a stern look.
"My name is Michelle and I know about the Doctor, because I have seen him."
Lestrade found that a pretty short answer, that was all? She hadn't even given him her last hame. He strode towards her and Michelle seemed to grow smaller, but Lestrade didn't care if he scared her. He was a Detective after all, and he knew when someone was holding something back.
"Tell me truth, Miss. How do you know about the Doctor?" he asked her, towering above her.
"I โ I saw him," Michelle repeated her words with a squeaky voice.
"Seen him where?" Lestrade demanded to know, he was not buying it for one second.
Michelle turned her head away. A sign of someone who is avoiding the truth, Lestrade knew. Tears were glistening in her sky blue eyes.
"Seen him where?" Lestrade asked again, she was not going to get away with this easy. He had believed her and send all those people away; that trust in her by him should be returned the same way.
Michelle shook her head, she couldn't tell him the truth. He would think she was crazy!
"Where?!"
"In my visions, okay!" Michelle gave in.
Lestrade stopped his questioning. He couldn't believe it, he just had taken orders from a mental health patient. Great.
"I'm not crazy," Michelle tried to convince him. "Just give it a few moments, he will appear. Trust me."
"Visions?" Lestrade didn't believe in sixth senses, but then, now he thought about it, how did she know about the Doctor? If she had been his companion, she could just have said it. He would have believed that immediately, but here she was, telling him about visions.
"Yes. I don't know how or why, but for some reason I can forsee the future."
Lestrade decided to have an open mind but they waited for minutes, yet the Doctor never came.
"I do not understand," Michelle whispered. Her visions had never been wrong before, so why now? What was different this time? Michelle felt like a fool, she had embarass herself in front of a Detective of Scotland Yard. Why, in Heaven's name, were her visions wrong right now?! The tears were burning behind her eyes and she blinked fast to drive them back.
"I do not understand," Michelle repeated again, lost in thought. Lestrade didn't understand it either, she had seem so sure about it. There had to be a truth in it, her seeing some kind of visions, otherwise she could never had known about the Doctor. Unless she was messing with him, of course, but he didn't think so.
Michelle wanted to leave to get meditate about it, but above all: to get away from the embarrassment. But before she could do so, the door swung open and a voice pierced through the air.
"Ey! What's that lunatic doing here?!"
Michelle snapped her head in the direction of the sound and met with the furious brown eyes of Hawkins. Hawk had spotted her out of the window when she saw the reporters leave, she wondered why the women who had grabbed, had followed her all the way to here. And now with Scotland Yard nearby, Hawk had the courage to confront her in stead of running away as she did first.
Lestrade, however, was not sure how to answer at Hawkins' cry for an explanation. She knew Michelle, but obviously she did not think much of her as she had just called Michelle a lunatic.
"Has he offered you a job as his intern?" Michelle asked. It was what she had tried to warn Hawkins for.
Hawk was confused. "Yes... How do you know that? Did you tell her?" Her attention was turned back to Lestrade, but he shook his head. He hadn't tell her anything.
Michelle wanted to tell her she should head back home and never return here, bad things would happen if Hawkins helped the consulting detective and met the Doctor. Hawkins had to stay out of it, but perhaps everything Michelle had seen about the Doctor, had been wrong. She needed more time to figure out why the Doctor wasn't here now. Something had changed, but what?
"Whatever." Hawk shook her head to get rid of the confusion. "I don't want to see you near me again. You harassed me in the middle of the street."
Lestrade raised his eyebrows in shock.
"I just wanted to warn you, I'm sorry if I hurt you," Michelle apologised, but Hawk did not want to hear it.
"Next time I see you, I'll call the police."
Michelle nodded her head in understanding, but if the Doctor would arrive, they surely would see each other again. But for now, Michelle would leave her alone.
