<-><-><-> Hawkins Tinley <-><-><->
Do you know what is the most horrible thing in the world?
No? Well, let me tell you.
Having to get out of your warm bed while it's cold outside and the first Monday after the Christmas holiday. Really, there's nothing more horrible than that.
So, of course, Hawk grumbled when the alarm rang through her chamber. It couldn't be seven o'clock already, right? She had only just closed her eyes. She squeezed her eyes shut, ignoring everything around her. It was just a bad dream, she was only dreaming the alarm went off. Nothing more.
"Hawkins Tinley!" Her father's voice rumbled through the air and immediately, Hawk's eyes flew open. O dear. Being called by your full name; that's also a horrible thing.
Hawk could hear the door of her fathers' bedroom open. O, they were really pissed.
"Turn off that alarm, now!"
Hawk blindly reached for her alarm, and slammed on the button. The beeping stopped and she prepared herself for her angry father who could open the door any second now.
"I'm sorry," Hawk apologised when the chamber door swung open and she rubbed her eyes, trying to get the sleep out of them. "I hadn't heard it," she smiled innocently.
"How can you not have heard that?!" her father asked, annoyed.
Hawk shrugged and threw the blankets away, the cold reached her without mercy and goosebumps appeared all over her body. She had to fight the urge to crawl back underneath the blankets.
Her father watched her shiver for a moment, rolled his eyes and left the room again, so that she could change in some warmer clothes. Hawk really wasn't looking forward towards the first day of school. It was not that she hated to learn, in fact, she loved learning new things, but the things they learned at school... Well, let's just say Hawk didn't really think it was useful to learn.

A yawn escaped Hawk's mouth as she stared at the writings on the board. Every now and then, her eyes wandered to the clock, but after a while she started to notice something. Something in the corner of her eye. It looked as if someone was staring at her? She snapped her head in the direction of the person and quirked an eyebrow as he quickly looked away. What was his name again... Tristan? Yeah, she thought it was Tristan. Hawk tried to figure out why he would be staring at her, but she honestly didn't know.
Again, he looked at her but Hawk was still staring at him too, and his cheeks turned red as he fixated his eyes straight ahead.
"Miss Tinley?"
"Yeah?" Hawk answered, too late realising the teacher had asked her a question. "Oh, eh..." She stared at the teacher's hand that was pointing at a date on the board. Hawk digged in her mind, she knew what had happened. "The Soviet Union launched Sputnik One."
The teacher nodded. "Indeed. And as you all know, that triggered the Space Race-," and Haw's mind started to wander off once again. Every now and then, she caught Tristan staring again and she decided to ask him what his problem was after class.
When there was only one minute left until the bell would mark the end of the class, Hawk started to pack her stuff, just as most of the others. The teacher was getting a bit annoyed and told them there was still some time left and they should wait with packing their stuff. Hawk softly snorted, right, like they were going to learn something new in that one minute. The students continued to pack their bags, but only slower and quieter. Hawk couldn't help to grin when she noticed the annoyed face of their teacher.
The school bell rang through the classroom and Hawk sprinted away, maneuvering between her classmates and swinging her backpack over her shoulder. Once outside on the hallway, she leaned against the wall and waited for Tristan to show up.
The boy appeared in the door opening and Hawk walked up towards him. He seemed to startle when she suddenly stood in front of him.
"H-hi," he greeted her, but Hawk was not in the mood for formality. He had been staring at her the last fifty minutes, after all. The time to be polite had long past.
"What is your problem?" she spat at him.
Tristan flinched by hearing her harsh tone but before he could give an explanation, one of their classmates shouted at them, "Go stand and talk somewhere else, knuckleheads!"
She was right, standing in front of the classroom probably wasn't the best place to talk. Hawk rolled her eyes but took a few steps sideward nonetheless. Tristan wanted to wait until everyone was gone before he would give her his explanation, but Hawk wasn't that patient.
"Why did you keep staring at me?" she rephrased her accusation.
Tristan nervously glanced back over his shoulder, to see if there still was anyone listening to them. But the other classmates couldn't care less about them and set course towards the auditorium for their small break.
"I'm sorry," he started, smiling a bit awkwardly. "I didn't mean to stare."
Hawk crossed her arms, wondering what his excuse would be. And if it would a good one.
"I was just wondering how I should ask if perhaps-," he grew even more nervous and Hawk had a hard time figuring out what his last few words had been.
"-youwouldliketogooutwithmesometime?"
But when she did, her jaw dropped a bit. Had he seriously asked her out? She hadn't expected that and she observed him to see if he was pulling a prank on her, but he really was nervous and eager at the same time to hear an answer.
Hawk just wasn't sure how to answer.
She never had given the idea of having a relationship a thought. Sure, she was interested in the idea of having a significant other, but she never saw that happening to herself. Not yet, at least. But could Tristan be that one? He was a good-looking boy with short blond hair and brown eyes, but she hadn't even noticed him before until today, when he had started to stare at her so bluntly.
But, instead of telling him all that, she just gave him the first good reason why not. "I'm flattered, really." Hawk didn't want to be too rude. "But we're only thirteen years old. I really am not ready for that."
Tristan's face dropped and she felt bad for rejecting him. After all, he had been the first boy, who was not a creep, to have shown interest in her.
"But maybe," she continued, "if you stick around, that can change."
His eyes lit up again. "So that's a maybe?"
Hawk shrugged and started walking in the direction of the auditorium, with Tristan quickly catching up behind her. He cheerfully talked about his thoughts of school and Hawk joined in his conversation.
Perhaps this was the start of a great friendship.

A/N: A very happy birthday to dragoonlord! Go and wish her a happy birthday!
I wanted to update this sooner, Noortje, as a present, but I also had to study for a test next Friday and well, yesterday I hadn't had as much words as I would've liked so today I had to divide my time between studying and writing.
I hope this is kind of what you meant with your backstory :)
And to the others, if you have specific events for your backstory that you would like me to write, let me know! Or take a leap of faith and I'll write down my own ideas, mwhahaha.
The gif is made by Noortje and she has made some for your characters as well! I'll post them with your Zero chapter(s) (not sure yet if I'm going to write more than one).
