Mia

I knew last night was going to be awkward but I didn't expect it to completely blow up in my face as it did. They both left and they were pissed at me. I knew Cain wouldn't talk to me so I didn't bother reaching out, but I didn't think Jackson would be ignoring me as well.

I spent half of the night calling him but he didn't pick up at all. I assumed it had to be because of Cain. Jackson wouldn't have ignored me on his own. No matter how upset I made him in the past, he always at least listened to me.

I knew he was at work by now and I tried his office number, but his secretary told me he wasn't in. I knew that was a lie obviously. Jackson never missed a day of work no matter what.

I was beginning to go crazy with all the radio silence from both men and I was stuck here wondering where the hell I went wrong. Was it so wrong to want to be with the moth of them? If they truly loved me then they would have agreed.

I sighed and got up from my bed. I needed to talk to someone, anyone. I walked down the long halls and up the tiring stairwell until I made it to the floor Queen was on and walked towards her bedroom. I nodded at the guards and frowned as I looked at her open door.

"Is she in there?" I whispered.

"Yes, ma'am," the guard said.

I gave them a smile before entering the room, but I frowned when I saw multiple suitcases on the bed. My eyes fell on her when she came out of the closet with a pile of clothes and I walked towards her. "Hey, girl."

"Hi, Mia," she said with a smile.

"Are you going on a vacation?" I asked.

"No," she said. "I'm leaving the palace for a little while though."

"Why?" I frowned.

"Syn and I aren't together anymore," she said lowly.

A smile spread across my lips and I wrapped my arms around her. "Good, you deserve better." She hugged me back and sighed before slowly pulling away and continuing to pack. "But why are you leaving your palace? You're the Queen."

"I am, but Syn is the son of Lucifer. He needs to be on the throne and since I can't be with him, he can have the palace," she said.

"So you're not going to be Queen?"

"Oh no, I am," she said. "I'm just going to take a break to clear my head."

"I'm going to miss you," I admitted.

"Don't," she laughed. "We'll still have to email almost every day for work. I just won't be coming into the office for work."

"Oh, okay," I frowned.

"Enough about me. What did you come here for?" She questioned.

I didn't truly feel like it was the right time to spill my load of emotions onto her considering how sad she looked, but I needed to talk to someone. If I didn't, I'd burst.

I sat on the edge of her bed and sighed as I fiddled my thumbs. "So you know how I had to choose between Jackson and Cain?"

"Yes," she said slowly as she stopped her movements.

"Last night, I made a decision."

"You chose Cain, didn't you?" She asked. I could sense an attitude behind her voice but I chalked it up to me overreacting and I shook my head.

"No, I chose both of them."

"What do you mean you chose both of them?" Queen questioned.

"I couldn't choose so I told them I wanted to be with the both of them," I shrugged. "They both just left me in the fucking restaurant like assholes."

"Why the fuck would you do that?"

I looked at her in confusion and looked around. "Because I couldn't choose..."

"Listen, you're my friend and all but that was the most selfish thing I've ever heard. It's funny how this sudden decision is coming up when Cain finally is doing well with Iris," she ranted. She immediately closed her eyes and winced at her words and I slowly stood up.

"What do you mean 'doing well with Iris', are they together?" I questioned.

She sighed and rubbed her head and I thought back to Cain's rejection that one night. Was it her that he was talking?

"That never mattered to you before, so why now?" I asked. "You never cared about my feelings for him before. Why does it matter now if I still love him?"

"Honestly?" He asked.

"Yes."

"I've realized that you're not the only spectacular woman in my world," he whispered.

"What does that mean?"

"It means that I used to see you as my everything. My day didn't start until I saw you, Mia. I thought about you all the time. But after you told me you were going to marry Jackson, I turned away from you. When I did, I saw someone else that made my heart stop."

I knew that he favored her above some other subs, but it never once crossed my mind that he'd like her. Especially not over me. I'd been here and he had chased me...was I worth rejecting for her? She wasn't ugly but if we were on a scale she would be nowhere near me. I was clearly more Cain's type than she was.

I gasped as everything began to make sense to me. Iris was a fairy. They're great at manipulating and deceiving. Cain had to be under some spell! All his words about loving her completely left my mind as this alternative came to mind.

Everything was absolutely obvious now.

With that in mind, I gave Queen a bright smile. "Okay."

"Okay, what?" She asked.

"Just okay."

"Mia, if you hurt her...I'll seriously kill you. Cain is happy."

"Girl," I started. "I've changed. I won't hurt a hair on her green, or blue or red, sometimes pink...rainbow head."

"Seriously, Mia," she said flatly.

"Love you! Call me later!" I yelled as I walked out of the door. I rushed to my room with a newfound sense of enlightenment and I pulled out my work computer. We weren't allowed to search people up for our own gain, but I knew Queen would permit me if she knew it was to save her brother.

I opened my computer and pulled up the Underworld's database. I didn't know her last name so I'd have to do some deep diving to have to figure it out. I typed in her name and groaned when I saw thousands of results.

I typed in her species and it lowered it to almost twenty possibilities and I smiled. I was thankful that there weren't so many fairies in the underworld otherwise I'd be looking forever.

I set the age bar to "between 18-25" and it further shortened the list to about twelve people. There weren't pictures of them since none of the people had been arrested so I sat back and thought about other details I knew about her.

After a few minutes, my eyes widened as I recalled a sub telling me about her leaving to take care of a sick grandparent. It didn't make sense to me why she would do that if she had other family members so that only meant one thing, she didn't have a family.

I eliminated the Iris's in the Underworld with alive family members but stopped when I saw one. "Twenty-one years old, deceased parents, raised by grandfather," I read slowly. "Ex-husband jailed for domestic abuse."

I remembered her mentioning something about Cain taking care of her husband...was this what she meant? This couldn't be a coincidence. Seeing as this was the closest person I saw to her, I scribbled her grandparent's address listed and grabbed my purse and keys.

I'd make sure she'd never mess with Cain again.
