4. A studying session.
"The media and adults say we don't have willpower, condemning us like stocks. Why are they killing us before we can even try?"
- Dope (BTS)
A yawn slipped past Yuna's lips as she walked into the classroom, dumping her bag onto her desk. God. She was so tired. Studying for tests is hard enough, but add Hana rebelling against their mother and getting yelled at? That was enough to make anyone exhausted for days. She perked up when a bottle was placed in front of her, shifting her curious gaze to Ki-joon.
"Coffee," he said simply. She gave him a grateful smile, cracking open the lid. She had barely taken a sip when he brought his face close to her's, fingers coming to gently trace her dark circles. "You haven't been sleeping well," it's more a statement than a question, but Yuna is too flustered to reply. His hand felt warm against her face, and she could see how his eyelashes fluttered when he blinked.
She and Ki-joon had always had a special bond. They'd first caught sight of each other at the age of eight, eyes looking at each other inquisitively as they held onto their mothers' hands. they had been glued to each others' sides. Yuna had approached him and Seo-joon first, handing over a small toy car her brother had given her. Little Ki-joon had lit up and clumsily plucked a flower for her, his mother laughing at the clump of soil that came up with it. But it didn't matter because after that, they became the bestest of friends.
She'd always known that Ki-joon was considered cute. All the grown ups had fussed over his good looking features and how his fiery personality was a contrast to them. It hadn't matter then, but as times went by, Ki-joon became more handsome and charming, and, unknowingly managed to steal her heart. She glanced at Seo-joon pleadingly, the boy trying to stifle his laugh as he took his seat, but the traitor just grinned and looked away. "Yuna?" she snapped her head back to face Ki-joon.
"Sorry. Kind of went into a daze. All the revision I have to do is catching up with me, and it doesn't help that Hana is going through her phase,"
"You still haven't done the work you've missed out on?" he asked incredulously. She pouted at him.
"Don't judge me. Not everyone is as smart as you,"
"Come over today. Seo-joon and I can help you learn everything. Besides, mom misses you," Yuna cooed. She and Seung-hye were very close to each other, bonding over books and discussions about films and other things that interested them.
"I've missed Aunt Seung-hye too!"
"You didn't miss us?" Seo-joon joined their conversation. She wrinkled her nose.
"Why would I miss you two?" Ki-joon scoffed.
"Ah, seriously this girl. If you didn't miss us, there's no need to drink the coffee I bought you," he snatched it off her desk, and Yuna chased after him.
"No Ki-joon. I'm sorry," she whined, reaching for it. He moved it out of her grasp, stretching it above him. It was an amusing sight, Yuna jumping up to try to grab it, Ki-joon's smirk growing wider every time she failed and cursed.
"Those two," Hye-na shook her head, looking amused. "Comedy gold," during moments when the silence prevailed in their classroom, everyone quiet and tired from the burden of tests, Ki-joon and Yuna would do their usual bickering and make everyone watching laugh, brightening up the sober mood.
"They look good together," Woo-joo commented, eyes set on the way Ki-joon's face softened as he handed over the drink to the girl, Yuna chatting as she sat on a desk, legs swinging.
"They do. Too bad they're both too scared to confess to one another," Chaeyoung said, arms crossed. "Can't you do anything Seo-joon?"
"Me?" the boy questioned. "There's no use trying. They'll figure it out one day,"
"It's best to let them find it out themselves, rather than being pushed into a relationship," Woo-joo agreed.
"Are you one to speak Woo-joo?" Chaeyoung asked, a teasing smile on her lips. He flushed, nudging her.
"Yah. Shush,"

"Are you sure that's not the answer?"
"Yes, Ki-joon I'm positive that proteins is not the answer," they were sitting in the twins' bedroom, having come home to the Chas' house directly after school, books spread across them as they attempted to study, eyebrows furrowed in concentration.
"Is this answer too long?" Seo-joon questioned, showing his notebook to the girl, who scanned over it quickly.
"Yeah. Instead of just reading the question and writing down an answer, you have to make sure to check how many marks it's out of. If it's only for 2 marks and you're writing too much, you'll just be wasting your time," she explained. Yuna stretched her arms above her head, loosening her tie as she gazed at the mountain load of work she had left. She still had to do her homework and copy down the notes of the classes she had missed. A knock on the door had them looking up, Seung-hye at the door with a tray.
"I made your favorite Yuna-ah; kimchi fried rice," she said with a smile, setting down the bowls.
"Thank you Aunt Seung-hye." the woman watched, amused as the three children practically inhaled the food.
"Do you remember when Yuna first tried kimchi?"
"'This is the best thing I've ever tasted!'" Ki-joon imitated. "'And you made it by yourself? You must be a professional chef!'" Yuna smacked him.
"My voice was never that high!" her indignant tone made them burst into laughter.
"You were such an adorable child," Seung-hye reminisced. "Always so bright and cheerful, and a great flatterer of my ego. Everything I made for you would be praised for hours. And your Korean,"
"Don't get started on her Korean mom. I'll choke," Seo-joon pleaded.
"Remember the time she accidentally called Aunt Jin-hee 'hag'? She was so offended," the memory of Jin-hee's expression, full of shock and horror, is enough to start making them laugh again. Seung-hye wiped away a tear of mirth, opening her mouth to say something when the door opened again.
"What's all this noise about? Oh, Yuna-ah," Cha Min-hyuk's stern voice turned light when he spotted Yuna sitting next to his sons. "Why didn't you tell me you were here?"
"Hello Uncle Min-hyuk. You were so busy working on the lecture notes for your class that I didn't want to disturb you,"
"That's very thoughtful of you Yuna. What are you three studying? Biology? That's good. Maybe you can teach Seo-joon something. He's absolutely horrible at it," the boy lowered his head, and Yuna's smile became strained.
"Are you sure Uncle Min-hyuk? Seo-joonie always gets the answers right when he's asked about them in class, and he just finished explaining a very complex chapter to me. I couldn't understand anything when our teacher made us go through it, but Seo-joon simplified everything and I got in seconds," Min-hyuk looked surprised.
"Really? Well done Seo-joon," he said approvingly. Seung-hye stood up, fingers clasped in the folds of her skirt.
"We should get going honey. The kids wouldn't want us to intrude in their studying time," Min-hyuk's protests were cut off Seung-hye pushing him out of the room, shooting them a smile before she let the door close behind her.
"Thanks for defending me Yuna,"
"Anytime Seo-joon. Your dad doesn't realize how smart you are. He's too tough,"
"That's one thing our dads have in common," a silence followed this statement. He was right though. Min-hyuk and Sang-hoon often had unattainable expectations and dreams for their kids, ignoring what they actually wanted in favor of trying to get them into prestigious universities and practices.
"Leave that all alone," Seo-joon spoke up. "Let's finish studying," groans echoed in the room, Ki-joon and Yuna reluctantly picking up their books again. She glanced at the window, eyes widening.
"Hey, is that Hye-na?" she questioned. "Coming out of Woo-joo's house?" the three of them exchanged glances before running towards the window, peering out of it. Hye-na tucked a strand of hair behind her ear shyly as Woo-joo said something to her, cheeks blooming pink as he handed her what looked like banners. She waved at him as she strode away, Woo-joo watching her leave with a besotted smile. A piercing whistle made him start.
"Nice Woo-joo!" Ki-joon called, and Woo-joo laughed when he heard two resounding smacks, Seo-joon and Yuna scolding him.
