Chapter 50

Where You Once Belonged

Flashback, 1848:

Quietly and carefully, Damon creeps back into the house after sneaking out earlier that day. His little sister, Charlotte's birthday was a month away. However, he thought she deserved to have a gift before then so he saved up his money since the year previous to get something special for her.

Too excited to wait a moment longer, Damon searches around the house for Charlotte but she is nowhere to be seen. It's then he remembers that sometimes she likes to hide down in the cellar, this is always where she would hide when they would play hide and seek.

That's when he seen her hiding in her usual corner, legs brought up to her chest, arms wrapped around them and hiding her face, "Charlotte?" Damon approaches her but she doesn't move, "Why are you hiding in here?"

When Charlotte looks up at her brother his heart drops. Her cheek imprinted with crimson red handprint, eyes bloodshot with tears streaming down her face. Damon sits beside his sister, pulling her closer against his chest, he gently places a hand under Charlotte's chin, "Let me see. What happened this time?"

"Ms Forbes was here for my piano lesson but father wouldn't leave the room and I got so nervous." Her voice breaks as her sobs continue, "I kept pressing the wrong notes, he got so angry. Father forced me out of the room and said I was a fool and he was embarrassed I was his daughter, t-then he hit me."

Damon noticed their father was being extra harsh than normal on his little sister lately, especially over the last month or so. It has been ever since their Aunt Cora visited, something happened the last night she was here but Damon had never found out the reason. But he knew something had happened, everyone was acting different. His father was more violent, his mother more distant and Charlotte would hide in her room scared to leave because if she did their father would abuse her.

Not wanting to continue talking about it, Damon sits Charlotte up slightly, "I got you an early birthday present."

Charlotte watches her brother as she picks up a parcel from beside him, "Stefan's birthday is before mine."

"Yes but he is still too little to understand birthdays. Open it." Damon passes Charlotte the present, she opens it to reveal a book titled 'The Three Musketeers'. Damon smiles over to his sister, "One day we'll run away from here, when Stefan is older. We'll run away, never come back and we will call ourselves the three musketeers."

Charlotte lowers her head, "Father would never allow that."

"You don't need to worry about what father thinks. We'll be free of him soon, sister. I promise you."

Charlotte smiled down at the book then pulls Damon in a hug, "I love it, thank you, Damon."

Damon pulls away from the hug, taking hold of both of her hands. He looks her mentally making a promise to himself he was going to do whatever it takes to make sure Charlotte would be okay. He kisses Charlotte on her forehead before looking back at her,

"I'm always going to protect you."

----------------------------------------------------

It was so silent at the Salvatore house that evening, you'd be able to hear a pin drop. A dark cloud loomed over everyone as they tried to come to terms with the loss of someone they never expected would leave this world.

Damon hasn't left his sister's side after Stefan left the room to call Klaus. He sits on the edge of Lola's bed, holding her against his chest, just like he would always do when they were children. It's then he looks over to the bookcase in the corner of Lola's bedroom and sees the copy of 'The Three Musketeers' he got Lola for her birthday all those years ago.

"Little sister, you just had to get involved didn't you and on your birthday of all days? I am so sorry." Tears began to well up in his eyes once more, "I've been the worst kind of big brother there is. Truth is I've never been mad at you, I've been afraid. I've been afraid that I was gonna lose you and as I've been trying to avoid that from happening I made it possible. It's all my fault."

Damon sighs heavily as his head drops, chin resting against the top of Lola's head, "And it really hurts that you're never going to hear me say any of this. I've really let you down this time, Lo. You're not the little girl I felt responsible for when we were kids, though you may not be that little girl anymore I still feel responsible for you and I always will. It was my responsibility to make sure nothing like this would have happened to you and I failed."

"I failed you and I'm sorry. I'm never going to be able to forgive myself." Damon softly kisses the top of Lola's head, "I'm gonna find a way to bring you back, sister, no matter what it takes."

Stefan walks back towards the doorway leading into Lola's bedroom, feeling defeated after his phone call with Klaus. He looks over to Damon with sorrow in his eyes, "Hey."

"Does he know?"

Stefan sighs as he lowers his head and puts his hands in his pockets, "Yeah, Klaus knows. He knows everything, he's on a plane back here."

"And Elena?"

"Angry, full of guilt. Hasn't said a word to me other than that she wants to be left alone."

Damon nods slightly as he still holds onto Lola, "Right."

Stefan slowly steps further into the room, "You should come downstairs, you need a drink."

"No." Damon abruptly snaps, "I'm not leaving her side."

"Damon..."

Damon looks over to Stefan as his eyes are full of guilt, "Do not even try to change my mind, Stefan. I've been away from our sister for long enough."

The doorbell can be heard from downstairs, Stefan glancing out of the room before looking back to Damon who stays in the same position. Stefan sighs before leaving the room to go and answer the door.

---------------------------------------------------

"Lola's dead."

"There was nothing we could have done."

That's all that was running through Klaus' mind after the phone call with Stefan.

His breathing becomes erratic as his vision blurs. Klaus' grip on his phone becomes tight, so tight his knuckles begin to turn white.

A construction worker walks past Klaus making him grab the worker by the throat, channeling his heartbreak into anger. The man tries to fight Klaus off but it's no use, Klaus' grip becomes tighter and tighter until so tight he breaks the mans neck. The man falls limp in Klaus' hold, he throws him to the ground and rushes away from the site. He needs to get back to Mystic Falls, he needs to be with her.

Klaus sits in silence on the plane, the hybrids who have travelled with him know to keep their distance. They retrieved the sword but now there's no point, Elena has killed Connor.

A strong sense of guilt overpowers Klaus, he wanted Lola to go to Italy with him but she thought it would have been best to stay in Mystic Falls. He should have been more stern with her, saying she has to come to Italy. If he did then she would still be alive right now.

Klaus stares down at his phone seeing that one unopened voicemail awaits. Knowing this is from Lola, his heart is telling him to listen to it but his body refusing to move and press the button.

What if everything was a lie? What if Lola can't come back? What if she is gone for good?

With a shaky hand, Klaus works himself up to listening to the voicemail.

"Hey." Just hearing Lola say one word alone creates pools of tears in Klaus' eyes that begin to distort his vision, "So, I know I've been hard on you the last couple days, and honestly you did sorta deserve it." Lola laughs awkwardly before taking a deep breath, "I'm tired of being like that, I mean, you're the love of my life, I can't leave you. You once said to me in the form of a letter that what we have is a great love. It's complicated, intense, all-consuming. No matter what we do and how much we fight, it will always pull us back in. Honestly I wasn't sure if that was ever going to be true, but now I know it is."

Just the tone of Lola's voice, Klaus can feel the broad smile she had on her face as she left this voicemail and also the shakiness in her voice, "And I'm more sure than anything that I want to be with you, forever. You're my now, you're my tomorrow, you're my always. I love you so much. I'll see you soon."

Klaus drops the phone as tears fall down his face, the voicemail being a poignant reminder of the life they were meant to live together and now facing the possibility of not being able to live that life if the spell was false.

His eyebrows lower and come together, closing his eyes he brings his hand up to his face to wipe away the falling tears. Trying to compose himself feels impossible and the thought of being thousands of miles away makes the pain of losing his true love even more unbearable.

Klaus picks up his phone and listens to the voicemail again, this being the only way he is going to be able to survive the plane journey back to where Lola is.

-----------------------------------------------------

Stefan opens the front door, his eyes widen in shock, "Adrianna?"

Adrianna stands on the front porch, dark circles around her tear stained eyes, "Where is she? I want to see her."

Stefan narrows his eyes to the brunette standing behind Adrianna, "Who are you?"

Adrianna turns slightly to look at Hayley before looking back over to Stefan, "She's with me."

He opens the door further to allow them both access, "Follow me."

Stefan escorts them both up the stairs towards Lola's bedroom before being greeted by Damon standing in the hallway outside of Lola's bedroom, he looks over to her confused, "I thought I heard your voice."

Damon gestures for Adrianna to walk into the bedroom, her heart sinks as she looks at her best friend lying on her bed covered in dark grey veins, "Oh my god."

"We'll give you some time alone." Stefan says as both him and Damon head downstairs.

Adrianna slowly walks over to Lola, she looks down at her and strokes her hair. Eyebrows furrow together as she tries to fight back tears, "How did it get to this, Lo?"

Hayley walks to the other side of the bed, her mouth becoming dry not knowing what to do or what to say. She looks at Adrianna with a somber expression, "Ade..."

Adrianna shakes her head and starts to look around the room, "She can't stay like this."

"What do you mean?"

"She's covered in blood." Adrianna snaps, she turns to look at Lola as her voice breaks, "She's covered in her own blood. She can't be looking like this when she wakes up."

"What do you mean when she wakes up?" Hayley questions, her eyes widen when Adrianna doesn't respond, "That's actually going to happen?"

"It will happen." Adrianna corrects, she opens Lola's drawers to try and find something, anything. Her breathing becoming erratic and her body trembling, "I know it will. Which is why we need to have Lola looking her perfect self for when she wakes." Adrianna finds a plain shirt in the practically bare drawers, she walks back over to Lola with a hint of a smile, "I don't want the first thing that she will notice is that she's covered in blood."

A smile filled with sadness appears as Hayley watches Adrianna clean Lola up, "I still remember when I first met her." She laughs as she wipes away stray tears with her sleeve, "I tried to steal her purse but failed miserably."

Adrianna faintly smiles at the memory, "Yeah I remember, I was on the phone to her at the time."

Flashback, 2004:

Lola walks down the busy streets of Chicago on a sunny summers day after just leaving Adrianna but both calling each other as soon as they were out of each other's visions. Both intrigued at cellphones and wanting to test them out.

"I'm surprised you know how to use a cellphone, Lo." Adrianna teases down the end of the phone.

"Shut up!" Lola laughs, "I may have been born in the 1800s but I can still use modern day technology."

Before Lola can tease her best friend back, a figure rushes past her, grabbing her purse in the process. She looks on unamused at the figure running off and finding an escape down a nearby alleyway. Lola scoffs, "Ade, can you hold on for a second please?"

The figure rushes down a second alley, but stops when she looks up in shock to see the same woman she tried to mug. Lola stands in the middle of the alley with her arms crossed, "Going somewhere?"

"How did you-"

Lola steps closer and reaches her arm out, "I think you have something of mine." The girl huffs and gives Lola her purse back. Lola looks on at the girl who looks no older than thirteen, "You look a little on the young side to be living on the streets. How old are you?"

"Why should I tell you anything?" The girl glares at Lola and folds her arms, "How about you tell me how you got here so fast?"

Lola smiles over at her amused, "You answered it yourself, I'm very fast. How much money do you need?"

The girls stands up straighter, ready to argue but then slumps her shoulder back down in shock, "I- what?"

Lola shrugs as she reaches for money out of her purse, "Well clearly you need money or you wouldn't have pathetically attempted to steal my purse. So how much?" She begins to count the money she has in her hands, "Will five hundred do?"

"Five- five hundred dollars?!"

Lola holds her hand out that contains the money, "Here." The girl goes to quickly grab the money, but with Lola being faster she pulls back, "Ah, but first, indulge me and come over to that cafe first and answer some questions. You look hungry, I'll buy you anything you want. Oh hold on." Lola puts the money in her back pocket and retrieves her cellphone, "Hey Ade, you still there?"

"What the hell was that?" Adrianna exclaims after hearing everything unfold.

"I know you where leaving but feel like joining us for a coffee first? Our usual spot?"

"I'm on my way."

Lola hangs up the phone, "Alright, let's go." She gestures for the girl to leave first, "After you."

The girl looks at Lola dumbfounded the fact she is willing to help someone who tried to mug her not five minutes ago. She turns around and begins to walk out of the alley but Lola looks at her in shock as she notices something on her shoulder.

The girl turns around and frowns over to Lola, "Well are you coming or not?"

Lola clears her throat and begins to walk out of the alley with the girl. They walk across the street to a little cafe where Lola says the girl can order whatever she wants. That being a double cheeseburger, extra fries and a double chocolate milkshake.

The food arrives swiftly and she begins to dig in. The girl stops momentarily to see Lola sitting opposite with her with nothing in front of her, "You're not eating?"

"I had a big breakfast." Lola laughs slightly recalling the 'big' breakfast she had this morning was blood from a man she thinks was called Steve, "What's your name?"

"Hayley."

"Nice to meet you, Hayley. My name is Lola."

Hayley wipes her hands then sits back in the booth, "So, Lola, do you normally just carry five hundred dollars around with you?"

"No actually, it's normally more than that."

Hayley scoffs, "What are you, rich? Must have some fancy job to have that much money."

Lola laughs as she tilts her head, "Something like that. So what happened to you? Mom and dad kick you out?"

Hayley suddenly becomes a bit stand off-ish at the mere mention of family, "They're not my real parents. But yeah pretty much kicked me out a couple weeks ago."

"Because you broke your curse?" Hayley looks at Lola in shock as her eyes widen but Lola gently places her hand above Hayley's, "Relax, I'm not here to hurt you."

"Are you one too?"

Lola's nose wrinkles as her upper lip pulls up in somewhat disgust, "No, I've just had...experience with people like you."

Hayley raises a brow, "So what are you?"

Lola's attention goes behind Hayley when she sees her best friend appear, "Adrianna, good timing." She gestures over to Hayley, "Adrianna, this is Hayley. Hayley, this is my good friend Adrianna."

Adrianna smiles broadly down at the young girl, "Nice to meet you."

Hayley glances over to Adrianna and greets her with a slight nod before looking back over to Lola, "Can I get another milkshake?"

Lola nods, "Sure."

Hayley slides out of the booth and walks over to the counter. Adrianna takes Hayley's spot, leaning forward on the table looking over to Lola confused, "What's going on? You're not the type to help someone in need."

"She has the mark. The Crescent mark."

Adrianna's mouth hangs open slightly, "You serious?"

Lola glances over to Hayley then back to Adrianna, "We have to help her, Ade."

--------------------------------------------------

Hayley and Adrianna both sit in an eerie silence, both watching Lola after Adrianna changed her out of the blood stained clothes.

"She's gonna pull through, right?" Hayley is the first one to speak up as she keeps hold of Lola's hand she hasn't let go since she sat, "I mean I know no one was prepared this was actually going to happen but-"

"Lola was never prepared for half the shit she's been through, but she got through it." Adrianna gently runs her hand through Lola's hair, "She always will." She sits back in her seat, looking over to Hayley, "Does anyone here know that you know each other?" Hayley shakes her head, "I think it's best for you if we keep it that way for now. You should go, I'll call you if anything changes."

Hayley nods and sits up from her seat, she gives Lola's hand one last squeeze, "I'll see you soon, Lo."

Adrianna's gaze on Lola doesn't leave as Hayley leaves the room. She sits up on her seat, taking hold of Lola's hand, "I'm going to kill you all over again when you wake up. You need to wake up, okay? I need my best friend to walk me down the aisle. I need you here with me." Adrianna's lips quiver as tears fall, "We've spent so many years apart and after this you can think again if I'm going to let that happen again. Whether you like it or not we're going to have at least one epic tequila party every month, you got that?"

-------------------------------------------------

Lola opens her eyes, looking around dazed and confused as she lies in the middle of the tunnels under the Mystic Grill and wonders what the hell happened.

Lola makes her way out of the tunnels and walks around the square looking confused that there isn't anyone around. Something feels different, even the air feels different.

She carries on walking until a set of arms drag her into an alley, she tries to fight them off until they push her against a brick wall. Lola jaw goes slack as her eyes widen in shock at the person who is standing before her.

"Lexi?!" Lola exclaims, Lexi removes her hands from Lola who looks even more confused than before, "Where am I?"

"You're on the other side." Lexi informs, "What happened to you?"

Lola scoffs as she moves away from the brick wall, "Stefan distracted me for less than a second meaning some asshole hunter staked me."

"Well, welcome to the other side."

Lola's eyes narrow as she takes in her surroundings, "It looks very pleasant."

"We need to find your Aunt to know what we do now." Lexi says as she walks out of the alley, back onto the square.

Lola follows her, "How do you know about that?"

Lexi shrugs as they continue to walk, "You learn a lot being over here."

Lola pulls Lexi's wrist, making her stop walking, "You've seen my Aunt Cora?"

"I've seen a lot of people over here. Come on, let's go find her."

Lexi goes to continue walking but Lola remains in place, "What if I don't want that?"

"What?" Lexi turns around confused.

"What if...I don't want to go back."

"What are you talking about?" Lexi asks as she steps closer to Lola, "Why don't you want to go back?"

Lola glances around in different directions as she shrugs, "Would it really be such an impact if I didn't?"

Lexi gently places her hand onto Lola's shoulder, "It's not your time. Everyone still needs you."

"Do they? I'm sure my brothers will be fine, they seemed to be before today."

"You're wrong about them, you know? They care about you. They care about you so much, it may look like they don't but all they want to do is protect you. They just have a really crappy way of showing it. You can kick Stefan's ass for the both of us when you go back. You'll be fine, Lola. You'll make it. You'll get through this because you have yourself and right now you are everything you need." Lexi playfully nudges Lola as she smiles, "You know yourself you don't want to stay here, you've still got a lot of life left to live."

Lola laughs slightly, "Well I don't know, we're getting along a lot better than we did in the real world."

"Miracles can happen over here too." Lexi links Lola's arm and continues to walk, "Including getting you back where you belong."

"How do we do that? I need Cora, how can I see her?"

"You can see anyone, living or dead. You just have to think of them."

"Anyone?" Lola repeats, she looks up as she begins to think, "Even someone like...Freddie Mercury?"

"Really?" A male voice speaks up from behind the pair making them both stop and turn, "You'd chose him over me?"

Lola raises her eyebrows in shock to see Dominic standing behind them, she runs up to him pulling him in an embrace, "Oh my god!" She smiles up at him as she pulls away, she turns to face Lexi about to introduce them but Lexi is nowhere to be seen, "Hey, where'd she go?"

"We do that a lot around here." Dominic places his hand against her cheek, "Care to tell me what you got mixed up in now to be over here?"

Lola places her hand over Dominic's, "I will. But first I need to find someone."

"Who?"

Lola moves Dominic's hand away from her face, "The person I hope is going to tell me the truth."

"Well I hope that someone is me."

Lola turns to see Cora standing beside them with a smile on her face. Lola runs up to her and hugs her, "Aunt Cora!"

Cora pulls away from the hug, putting both hands against Lola's face, "My sweet girl, what happened to you?"

"Just an arrogant vampire hunter." Lola shrugs, "It's good to see you."

"You too, dear. Shall we get this show on the road?"

"This is actually going to happen? I can go back, right?"

Cora nods, "You can go back." She takes Lola's hand and gestures her to follow, "There's just one more thing we need to do."

"What she talking about, Lola?" Dominic chimes in.

Cora looks over to him then back to Lola, "Who's this?"

"This is Dominic." Lola looks over to Dominic and gestures to Cora standing beside her, "Dominic, this is my Aunt Cora."

"The Aunt Cora?" Dominic smiles and holds his hand out for Cora to shake, "I've heard a lot about you."

Cora smiles flirtatiously over to Dominic and shakes his hand, "All bad I hope."

Lola scoffs, "Really? You're going to flirt, right now?"

"What?" Cora shrugs and winks, "I may be dead but your Aunt still has a little skip in her step."

"Dominic was my fiancée."

"Just fiancée?" Cora glances between both Lola and Dominic, confused, "You never got married?"

Lola tilts her head as she narrows her eyes, "It's a bit hard to when Damon killed him the night before our wedding."

Cora's mouth gapes open, her eyebrows shoot up as she looks at Lola stunned, "Oh, well that explains it."

"Yep." Lola nods awkwardly, "Shall we?"

-----------------------------------------------------

Adrianna wakes after shutting her eyes for only a moment, she takes in her surroundings, looking over to Lola hoping everything that has happened was a dream.

Adrianna feels a new presence standing in the doorway, she smiles as she stands up, "Elijah, it's good to see you after all these years."

Elijah takes hold of both of Adrianna's hands, smiling over to her, "Likewise. Niklaus should be arriving soon." Elijah breaks away from Adrianna, stepping around her to walk over to Lola. His eyebrows pull together as his eyes fill with sadness, he leans down leaving a kiss against Lola's forehead.

Adrianna smiles politely as Kol now enters the room, "That must make you Kol."

Kol stretches his hand out to shake Adrianna's hand, "You must be Adrianna, Lola spoke very highly of you." He glances over her shoulder to see Lola, he walks over to her and sits on the edge of the bed before looking back at Adrianna, "How long has it been?"

"About 8 hours."

Kol nods, "I got in contact with Kate who we spoke to a few weeks ago, it's not known how long this will take. It's a waiting game, nothing has ever happened like this before."

"But she will wake up?"

"If everything we know to be true, then yes she will. But is just a waiting game right now. It could take days, weeks, even months."

Adrianna slightly gasps, "Months?"

"Is it possible?" Elijah questions, "Nothing like this has happened, we don't know what outcomes we could face."

"Where is she?!" Klaus demands as he rushes up into Lola's bedroom, anger filling his words. But all that anger leaves when everyone moves out of the way and he sees Lola's lifeless body laying on the bed. He steps back slightly in shock, hitting his back against the wall, "Oh my-"

Adrianna clears her throat and glances between Elijah and Kol, "We'll give you some privacy."

The corners of Klaus' mouth turn downwards, trying to fight back tears as he walks over to Lola. He gasps at how cold her hand feels, he falls down into the chair beside her, gripping hold of her hand and bringing it to his mouth, "What did you do, sweetheart? Will you ever learn not to get involved in things like this?" He bows his head, still holding onto her hand as he sobs, "I never thought it would have happened this way, or this fast."

-----------------------------------------------------

On the other side, Lola and Dominic are both walking towards the old witches house as Cora follows behind.

"You remember I told you about the spell that was cast on me?" Lola asks Dominic, he nods in response, "Well I'm going to be able to break it after all this time."

"That's amazing." Dominic says with a sincere smile on his face, "You finally get to be your true self?"

Lola nods as Cora catches up to the pair, walking in between them both and linking their arms as she looks up at Dominic, "So my nephew killed you?"

Lola cringes, knowing exactly what Cora is up to, "Can we not talk about this please?"

Cora sighs dramatically, continuing to link them both, "Always had a short temper that Damon. Not so much Stefan, he was always a bit like a little bunny rabbit, so innocent."

Lola scoffs as she pulls away from Cora and starts to walk ahead of them, "Yep, well now he just eats them."

Cora purses her lips, shrugging her shoulders at Lola's comment, then looks back over to Dominic, "Did it hurt?"

He laughs awkwardly, "It certainly wasn't the most pleasant thing that I've endured."

"Really, Cora?" Lola huffs as she stops walking, standing in front of them both, "You're going to ask him if it hurt being killed?"

Cora puts her hands up and smiles, "I'm just curious about you vampires that's all."

"Yes well I'm sure you can discuss it with each other once we finish this."

"Actually, Lola." Dominic speaks up, "I'm not going to be here when you finish the spell."

"You're not?" Lola frowns, "Why?"

"I just wanted to see you again. It should just be you and your Aunt for the last part." Dominic takes hold of Lola's hand, smiling over to her, "Take care of yourself."

Lola pulls Dominic in a hug, "I will." They pull away from the hug, Dominic slowly moves backwards as he slowly moves his hand out of Lola's until he disappears.

Cora sighs as she rests her elbow on Lola's shoulder, "You certainly have good taste in men, my dear. You definitely got that from me. Can't really say dear Lillian had the same taste with her marrying your father of all people."

Lola laughs slightly, "As much as I'm not opposed to hearing you bash my father, I don't really think right now is the time."

"You're probably right."

"So how do we do this?"

Cora guides Lola to walk further towards the old witches house, "It's just a simple resurrection spell we will say together and you'll be back in the real world."

"That's all it takes?"

"That's all it takes." Cora smiles, "Are you ready?"

Lola takes a deep breath, "Yeah."

"Take my hands."

Cora holds out her hands, Lola places her on top but quickly removes them, "No, wait! Lexi said that I could see anyone, living or dead, right?" Cora nods, "Okay then before we do anything I need to see him first. I need to see Klaus. I have to make sure he's okay before we do anything."

Cora nods, "Just think about him, that's all you need to do."

Lola closes her eyes and pictures Klaus, when she opens her eyes she's in her bedroom. She sees herself laying on the bed covered in dark grey veins.

Klaus is sat beside her holding onto her hand when Adrianna, Elijah and Kol walk into the room and Kol speaks up, "What do we do if it's not going to work?"

"You don't do anything, Kol!" Klaus snaps with his back to them both, his gaze not leaving Lola.

"Niklaus, Kol is right." Elijah says calmly, "We need to at least think of the possibility that she may not come back this way."

"No!" Klaus snaps, he stands up and glares over to his brothers, "She is not dead until I say she is! It's going to work. It will work! All of you get out." None of them move making Klaus raise his voice, "Get out!"

Klaus watches them all walk away, Lola stands in the corner looking at him in shock. He walks back over to Lola's body, taking hold of her hand once more, "This can't be the end, do you understand me? You can't leave me. Is this punishment for before, love? If it is then just wake up. Please wake up." He shakes his head as he kisses her hand, "I can't do this without you."

Klaus flinches slightly as he feels something on his shoulder, not knowing that Lola is standing right by him with tears in her eyes, "I'm here, Nik. You're not alone."

There's something in Klaus that knows that was Lola, he closes his eyes to control his breathing, "I love you."

Cora takes hold of Lola's other hand, "Are you ready?"

Lola nods as she still looks down at Klaus, "I'm ready."

--------------------------------------------------------

Downstairs, Damon has been pacing around the living room, blowing up Bonnie's phone. He's growing more and more agitated as she continues to not answer the phone, "We need to get Bonnie over here. She brought Jeremy back before, she can bring Lola back."

"It's about 2 in the morning, Damon." Stefan sighs as he sits down by the fire, "Bonnie isn't going to answer the phone."

"I don't give a crap what time it is!" Damon snaps, "I'll go break her door down to wake her up if I have to! We've been trying to find her all damn day, where the hell is she?!"

Adrianna walks into the living room, Stefan stands up and walks over to her, "What's going on?" He asks after hearing Klaus shouting upstairs.

Adrianna shifts uncomfortably as she pulls her sleeves down over her hands, "They're having a disagreement."

Stefan frowns, "A disagreement about what?"

"It's really not my place to say."

Damon walks up to Adrianna and glares at her, "You better tell me what you know, Adrianna."

Adrianna glares back at Damon, "I said it's not my place to say. If you want to know more, ask them."

----------------------------------------------------

Lola and Cora are back at the old witches house, as they walk in candles all around the room light up. Cora claps her hands together and looks over to Lola, "What did Esther Mikaelson say to you when she finished the spell?"

"Nothing really, she just said one dark soul must die for a pure soul to be reborn."

Cora scoffs, "Yes I thought she might have slipped that one in."

Lola looks at her Aunt confused, "Why, what does it mean?"

Cora opens her mouth to reply but can't find the right words. She takes a moment before she looks over to Lola, guilt behind her eyes, "Once you go back, you won't be a vampire. You'll be human."

"I'll be human?" Lola repeats, Cora nods, "Cora, I haven't been a human since 1864! So I'm gonna go back and be over 160 years old?"

"Of course not. You'll be the age you turned, 22." Cora continues to look at Lola with the same guilty expression, "You'll age like a normal human."

"So why pull that face? That's good right?"

"It's uncertain if you'll be able to be anything more than that."

Lola looks down at the ground and sighs, "Meaning becoming a vampire again."

Cora puts her hand on Lola's shoulder, "I'm sorry."

Lola fake smiles as she looks up at Cora with tears in her eyes, "It's fine, that doesn't matter right now. The only thing that matters is I can go back."

"Before we start, there's something else you need to know. At the old Salvatore plantation, underneath the largest oak tree, there is a box buried there. You need to dig it up and inside there are all my artefacts containing magic."

"You buried it, why?"

Cora sighs as she takes hold of both of Lola's hands, "A part of me has always hoped we could be here right now performing this spell and here we are. After that night where your father forced me to cast this spell on you, I had always hoped one day I was able to rectify it. And once I did so, you'd need those artefacts in order to siphon magic. I had also planned to bury my grimoires along with them but-"

"I have them already." Lola interrupts, a hint of a smirk appearing, "Once you died, mother kept them hidden in the attic but I stole them and hid them away myself."

Cora laughs, placing her hands on either side of Lola's face, looking at her proudly, "That's my girl."

Lola puts her hands on top of Cora's, "What's going to happen to you after this?"

"I'll be at peace. The only thing that has kept me here is my wish of fixing what I made you. I am so proud of the woman you have became. You know I've always said you should have been my daughter more than Lily's. You get your determination, your fight, your whit from me and of course your good looks." Cora smiles faintly, pushing some of Lola's hair behind her ear, "I'll be at peace knowing you get to live the life that's been stolen from you all these years."

Lola smiles at her, a tear falling down her cheek, "Thank you."

Cora wipes away the stray tear from Lola's face. She takes a deep breath and blinks away her tears, "Right, that's enough of the emotional speeches and tears. Okay, it's easy. You take my hands and just repeat after me, Phesmatos Ravaros On Animum."

Lola nods, she takes both of Cora's hands, "Phesmatos Ravaros On Animum."

"Perfect and now I need you to truly concentrate holding my hands and siphon my magic. Then we say it together."

Lola closes her eyes and begins to concentrate, a red aura surrounds their hands as Lola begins to siphon as they both chant, "Phesmatos Ravaros On Animum, Phesmatos Ravaros On Animum."

--------------------------------------------------------

"Niklaus, perhaps we should-"

"We are not moving her, Elijah!" Klaus shouts at Elijah with his back to him, "She's going to wake up. Lola is going to wake up because despite of what our mother has done in the past she has not made this up! I don't care if it's going to take days, weeks, months or even years! Lola is going to wake up just like she was supposed to. The spell stated she needed to die to be reborn."

"What did you just say?" Stefan says quietly as both he and Damon walk into Lola's bedroom.

Damon frowns, looking at the Mikaelsons, "What spell?"

Adrianna sighs as she follows Stefan and Damon into the room, "Klaus, you need to tell them."

Klaus scoffs as he keeps his back to everyone, sitting by Lola's side, "I don't need to tell them anything, this happened because of them."

"You don't get to come here and blame us for this!" Damon snaps as he steps closer to Klaus.

Klaus scoffs as he turns slightly to face Damon, "Shouldn't I? I leave town for a day, just one day and this happens!"

"Tell me what the hell is going on." Stefan demands.

"A spell was cast on her when she was younger, by your Aunt." Adrianna says.

"Aunt Cora?" Stefan questions, "What kind of spell?"

"To hide who she truly is, a witch." Kol says.

Damon shakes his head, "You're lying. This isn't possible."

Elijah then speaks up, "It is possible because it's the truth."

"No it's not!" Damon snaps.

"Maybe it is." Stefan mumbles, Damon turns to face Stefan confused when Stefan continues, "Remember we seen Lola with that mark on her wrist? It's not there anymore and we seen that symbol in one of Cora's old books. That night in 1848 when Cora came to visit, everything changed after that. We confronted Lola about that weeks ago, Damon."

"Yeah and she denied it." Damon glares at everyone else in the room, "And I believe my sister over any of you."

Adrianna walks to the corner of the room and folds her arms, "We're not lying."

"If you're not lying then why didn't Lola tell her own brothers about this, huh?" Damon asks the room.

"Maybe because you don't act like her brothers. Maybe because she doesn't trust you." Klaus retorts, he stands up from his seat and walks over to Damon, with anger in his eyes, "Maybe because you didn't deserve to know the truth!"

"My sister is gone!" Damon shouts, "My sister died in my arms so you don't get to tell me your bullshit story that Lola might come back to life!"

Klaus glares at Damon, enraged, "How dare you."

"What you gonna do, Klaus? Huh? What?" Damon steps closer to Klaus, "You gonna kill me?"

"Do not tempt me."

Stefan steps in between them both, reaching his hands out and separating the pair, "Alright both of you just calm down."

Damon slaps Stefan's hand away, "Don't tell me what to do, Stefan! How can you believe all of these lies?"

"If there is a a possibility we can get our sister back I'm gonna believe it, Damon!"

Adrianna completely ignores the argument going on, instead she stays standing in the middle of the room. It's then she notices Lola's hand faintly moving, "Her hand moved." She whispers.

Elijah looks over to Adrianna and frowns, "What?"

Adrianna walks over to Lola's bed, "Lola's hand, she moved!"

Everyone turns to look at Lola, they look down at her hands to see the dark grey veins slowly disappearing, the warmth of her skin reappearing. The flames on the candles that Adrianna dotted around the room begin to double in size.

Everyone can sense something is happening, they just don't know what. All eyes are fixated on Lola's body, not daring to even blink.

Adrianna sits on the edge of the bed, "Come on, Lo."

-----------------------------------------------

Cora and Lola continue to chant, the flames on the candles around them both also rise. The door leading to the witches house blows open with a high force wind. Cora opens her eyes and stops chanting as Lola continues,

"Phesmatos Ravaros On Animum, Phesmatos Ravaros On Animum."

Cora slowly moves backwards, slowly pulling away from Lola. She smiles at her niece, "Until we meet again, my darling."

-----------------------------------------------

The grey veins continue to disappear on Lola's body, her skin coming back to its natural glow slowly. All the veins leave her body, but she remains still as a statue. The large flames burn out, darkness and silence surrounds the room.

Klaus sits on the other end of Lola's bed, taking hold of her hand. Everyone takes a step closer, waiting.

All the candles relight as Lola wakes gasping for air.

"Oh thank god." Adrianna breathes out.

As Lola sits up, Klaus pulls her in for a hug, fearing if he lets go of her this will all have been a dream, "Are you okay?"

It's like Lola melts into Klaus' hold, she breathes a sigh of relief being back with him. She opens her eyes and sees Adrianna sitting beside her making her eyes light up, "Ade! You made it!" She notices Adrianna change of hair colour, from brown to auburn, "And you changed your hair!" Adrianna is lost for words, all she can do is smile so wide her cheeks begin to ache and tears stream down her face.

Lola looks around the rest of the room, everyone's faces having no colouring whatsoever. She furrows her brows, "Why are you all looking at me like that?"

Klaus stands up from the bed and reaches his hand out for Lola's, "Come on, I'm taking you home."

Damon steps closer, with a blunt tone, "She is home."

Klaus clenches his jaw as he steps towards Damon, Lola sits up from the bed taking hold of Klaus' hand and moving him back, "Alright, don't start." She glances between Elijah, Kol, Adrianna and Klaus, "I'll see you all downstairs, okay?"

The Salvatores watch everyone leave. Stefan looks over to his sister with tears in his eyes. Not knowing what to say but having so much to say at the same time, "Are you okay?"

Lola laughs awkwardly, "I think so."

"This isn't possible." Damon breathes out as he wipes away his stray tears.

Lola looks over to her older brother, faintly smiles over to him, "Hey, D."

"This is real? You're actually here?"

Lola looks down at her body and shrugs, "Last time I checked." Damon rushes over to her and pulls her into a tight hug, "Oh, okay." She tries to move but isn't even possible with how tight Damon is holding onto her, she clears her throat, "You're sorta crushing my ribs, brother."

Damon pulls away from the hug, "How is this even possible?"

"You both already kinda know."

"About what we spoke about before? About Aunt Cora?" Stefan asks, Lola nods in response, "Why didn't you tell us?"

Lola takes hold of both of her brother's hands, "I promise I will tell you everything you want to know but right now I just need time to get my head around it all myself."

"Of course, we'll be right there when you're ready." Stefan says sincerely, he pulls Lola in for a much more gentle hug than Damon did, "I've missed you so much."

"We both have." Damon adds.

"I've missed you guys too." Lola says, she wipes her tears away from her face and smiles up at both of her brothers, "We'll talk soon, okay?"

Lola walks down the familiar stairs of her home, smiling to herself that she can't believe she's back. She walks down the hallway to see everyone else waiting for her.

Kol is the first one to greet her, "You scared us for a second, Lottie."

Klaus takes hold of Lola's hand, "You ready?"

"I'm ready." They all walk out but Lola steps back, she moves her hand out of Klaus' grasp and steps closer to Adrianna, "I'm gonna ride with Ade so she knows where to go, I'll see you back at the house."

Klaus frowns as he tries to read Lola's facial expression, he hesitates to leave for a moment but eventually follows his brothers from the Salvatore's land.

Lola and Adrianna look over to each other, both smiling broadly and pull each other in a hug. They start jumping around, both saying in unison, "I've missed you so much."

They both climb into Adrianna's car and set off back to the Mikaelson mansion. Lola opens her window, taking a deep breath as she sits back, closing her eyes in utter contempt but still has the lingering feeling in the back of her mind about what her Aunt Cora said before she came back.

"You're being unusually quiet." Adrianna speaks up making Lola jump out of her daydream, "How do you feel?"

Lola sighs, "I feel different."

"Good different?"

"I don't know."

Adrianna glances over to Lola, looking concerned as she frowns, "Talk to me, Lola. What's wrong?"

Lola shakes her head, "It's nothing, I'll explain when we get to the house."

-------------------------------------------------

"Niklaus, for heavens sake would you stop pacing around?"

Klaus ignores Elijah and continues to pace around the foyer of the mansion, "Something is wrong, Elijah."

"What are you talking about?" Kol speaks up, "Lola is back, what could be wrong?"

"There was something in her eyes." Klaus mumbles as he continues to pace around, growing more and more anxious waiting for Lola to arrive, "Something she isn't telling us."

Elijah sighs, "The poor girl has only just came back from the dead, give her a minute. Charlotte is clearly overwhelmed by it all."

"I'm telling you something is wrong!" Klaus snaps, "I know Lola, more than anyone. I know when something is wrong."

They all fall silent as they hear a car pull up the drive. Elijah clears his throat, "We'll be in the other room." He walks towards the study, Kol soon following.

Klaus opens the front door just as Lola and Adrianna walk up the steps to the door. Both Lola and Klaus look at each other stunned, neither one knowing what to do.

"I'll give you both a minute." Adrianna says as she walks into the same room Elijah and Kol went.

Lola smiles at Klaus as tears of joy fall down her face, "Hey."

Klaus pulls Lola in a hug as he lifts her up, carrying her into the foyer. He buries his face into the nape of her neck, breathing heavily relived she is back in his arms. Klaus pulls away and inspects Lola making sure there isn't anything else wrong, "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine."

"Sweetheart-"

"Nik, I'm okay." Lola assures him as she places both hands on either side of his face, she rests her forehead against his, "I'm okay. But there's something I need to do."

Klaus pulls away, "What is it?"

Lola takes Klaus' hand and walks into the study where everyone else is, "I need to check something." She lets go of his hand and walks towards Elijah, reaching her hand out, "Elijah, give me your tie pin." Elijah looks at Lola confused, glancing at Klaus over Lola's shoulder. Lola sighs as she pulls her hand out further, "Please? I'm sure your tie can survive without it for two minutes."

After some hesitation, Elijah hands Lola his tie pin. She takes it and steps further into the study.

Klaus soon following, looking at her confused, "What are you doing?"

Lola pierces the skin on her hand with the tie pin, she flinches slightly as blood seeps through. She wipes away the blood to see more blood appearing. She steps back, falling into a chair behind her, "Shit."

Klaus kneels in front of her, taking her hand into his, inspecting her hand, "You're not healing."

"I'm not healing."
