Chapter 19

Klaus

LOLA POV:

Flashback, 1887:

It's been a few months since I've been going round the country on my own. Ever since Dominic broke my heart all those months ago, never giving me an actual explanation, just getting Damon to tell me he left and isn't coming back. I've just needed to be on my own.

Damon and I had been with each other since we turned, but I just needed to create a bit of space between us. I wanted to find myself and I knew I had to do that without him. Damon did not like that one bit. In fact, I haven't spoken to him since I left him in New York. Little did I know the next time I would see him would not be until 1919.

The next stop on my list was New Orleans. I've heard stories of all the supernatural beings in New Orleans and I guess you could say curiosity got the better of me. It's a beautiful city, everyone just seems so free here and that's exactly how I need to be.

I found myself walking down the French Quarter, admiring all the recently new architecture. As I continue walking, I'm in search for a fresh snack. I hadn't fed in a while so it was well overdue. There are poor people, but that's not my style. I tend to feed on people who look down on others, thinking they are better because they have a few pennies in their pocket, those who treat people unfairly for no reason.

It's then that I spot my next victim, amongst a crowd that is congregating in the Quarter is a man, I would say mid 50s, upper class. As I walk further into the crowd, I see that man beating a defenceless young boy who looks no older than 12.

"All you witnesses are here to see what happens to thieves." The man proudly shouts out as he walks around the crowd smiling.

"Please, don't hurt me! I just needed food." The young boy crouched down on the floor pleads.

The man picks up the young boy by his shirt, lifting him up off the floor, "The world needs less of the likes of you, pathetic little orphans who think they can steal from me!" The man screams in the boy's face, he throws him back down onto the floor and starts to beat him with a cane.

The crowd soon disperses, just leaving me standing there watching the man. The young boy is curled up in a ball on the ground, trembling. The man looks up at me and laughs, "You here to watch me finish the job?"

I smile innocently at the man, "Not exactly." I flash my vampire features, the man's face turns white and he is now the one who looks terrified.

I vamp speed over to him and pin him against the wall in the alley by his neck.

"What kind of demon are you?" He spits out struggling to breathe in my hold.

"The best kind of demon there is." I say smirking at him, "The kind of demon that puts an end to people like you." My teeth pierce into his neck, draining him of all his blood.

I drop him onto the floor once he is dead. I look over to the young boy who is now looking at me in fear, "Please don't hurt me."

I kneel before the young boy and smile, "Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you. Here." I bite into my wrist to heal him.

He looks up at me scared, "It's okay, it will heal you."

The boy reluctantly grabs onto my wrist and begins to drink and all his injuries heal instantly, "You killed him." The young boy says under his breath as he looks over to the dead man.

"That man was going to kill you, just because you are trying to survive. What's your name?" I ask softly.

The young boy looks up at me and smiles slightly, "It's Louis, Miss."

"Oh well you know what Louis means?" I say smiling down at him.

He looks up at me confused and shakes his head.

I stand up and hold my hand out for him to help him get up, "Louis is known as a warrior, and no warrior should be treated like you have been treated." I walk over to the man's dead body and grab all the money he had in his pockets.

I walk back over to the young boy and hand him the money, "You are a warrior, never forget that. You are going to live your life how you deserve. You're going to be happy, successful and never going to let anyone treat you badly." I compel him, he smiles at me and then walks back into the crowd.

"That was beautiful." A new voice says, a woman voice.

I turn to face her, she is a beautiful girl with long blonde hair, "Who are you?"

She smiles and walks towards me, "You remind me of my brother, when he wants to be a decent person. He helped someone like this a long time ago."

I've only just met this girl and already I can tell she is a good person. I get the same feeling from her I've got from a fair few people over the years, "You're a vampire."

"As are you, clearly." She responds smirking over to me.

"So you say your brother isn't always a decent person, what has he done that is so awful?" I ask growing intrigued.

She scoffs slightly, "That bastard has kept me daggered for 50 years for loving someone he didn't want me to love."

I raise my brow over to her, "Daggered?"

"Yes, I'm an original, we can't be killed; not permantley anyway. My brother has a charming set of daggers he uses on my siblings and me whenever we do something he doesn't like."

"You're saying a lot to a stranger you only met 5 minutes ago." I say to her in a joking manner.

She laughs at my comment, "It appears I am, for some reason I feel strangely comfortable around you. And because I feel so comfortable around you, I'm hosting a ball tonight, if you aren't too busy killing worthless men you should join."

I look down at the man and laugh, "I don't see why not. I'm Lola, by the way."

"Rebekah."

Slowly opening my eyes, remembering where I am. These flashback dreams just feel so surreal. I smile to myself thinking of Rebekah, we were both like sisters. My mood instantly changes when I remember what Klaus had done, as if it wasn't bad enough daggering her in the twenties, her body lies somewhere in the ocean along with Kol.

I watched over that young boy once he left the alley that day. He lived his life so perfectly, became successful, started a family and he really was a warrior right until the end.

My mind hits back into reality as I realise what happened last night, Klaus is here. Before I can think of anything else to do with him I need to get ready for whatever today is going to bring.

I figured I'd make a bet with myself, if I go downstairs to see Elena has done something she shouldn't have, I get drunk on the roof tonight. Probably something like...make it obvious Bonnie is alive, or invite Klaus round for afternoon tea. Who knows with that girl sometimes.

--------------------------------------------

3RD PERSON POV:

Stefan wakes up in his bedroom, when he sits up he can't see Elena anywhere. He rushes downstairs looking for her, "Elena!"

Stefan starts to walk down the hallway, Andie is there, holding a cup of coffee, "Hey."

"Have you seen Elena?" Stefan asks as he continues to walk down the hallway.

"Uh, no." Andie responds.

Damon walks over to Andie and smiles, "Hi, sweetie. Oh, my coffee."

They both kiss, Andie smiles up at Damon, "Good morning."

"Mm, good morning." Damon pulls Andie into an embrace.

Stefan turns to face them both, "Hey, where's Elena?"

Damon shrugs, "I don't know, Stefan. She's your girlfriend." Damon smirks over to Andie, "Mine's right here."

Stefan grabs his phone out of his pocket and starts to dial Elena's number.

"Oh, and how's the shoulder? Got time for a bite? I'm so hungry." Damon says smirking over at Andie.

"Oh, it's really messy. Can you just use a blood bag today? I'm already late for work." Andie says.

Damon frowns and pouts, "No!", they both kiss.

There is no answer when Stefan calls Elena, "Hey, it's me. Where are you? Call me." Stefan says to Elena's voicemail. He hangs up and looks over to Damon and Andie in disgust, "What are you doing? She's not a wind-up toy."

Andie glares over to Stefan, "It's really none of your business, is it, Stefan?"

"Yeah. What she said." Damon says smugly, "Is our darling sister up yet?"

"I don't know." Stefan mumbles.

"I have to go to work." Andie coos, she kisses Damon again.

"Ugh! Bye." Damon coos back as Andie walks out the house.

Stefan notices the basement door is wide open, he rushes over to it and runs downstairs, Damon follows. When they get to the room they had Elijah's body in, he wasn't there.

Damon groans, "No, she didn't. I'm gonna kick Lola's ass if she is involved."

Both brothers vamp speed back upstairs and are standing in the hallway, "Lola! Lola get down here!" Stefan shouts at top volume.

Lola was already half way down the stairs when he brothers shouted her, she looks down at them confused, "What's going on?"

Stefan sighs, "Elena's gone, so is Elijah."

Lola looks at both her brothers slightly amused and laughs to herself.

Stefan looks over to his sister pissed, "What's so funny?"

Lola covers her laughter up with a cough, "Nothing, nothing at all. I just had this bet going on with myself that Elena was going to do something..." Lola starts to laugh again, "I just didn't think it would be this."

"Where would he have taken her?" Damon says to his sister in a demanding tone, thinking she is involved in this.

Lola glares over to Damon knowing exactly what he's getting at, "How the hell would I know?! This is Elena, not Elijah. He was daggered remember, the dagger wouldn't have just magically been pulled out of his chest." Lola shouts over at her brother.

Damon glares over to Lola with a 'Really?' expression on his face, remembering how the dagger did almost magically come out of his chest thanks to the Martin witches.

Lola shrugs her shoulders, "...again."

Damon rolls his eyes at his sister as they all walk into the living room and take a seat as Stefan tries to call Elena again; she answers.

"Where are you? Are you okay?" Stefan says with concern down the phone to Elena.

"Yes, I'm fine."

"Where's Elijah?" Stefan asks.

"He's right here."

Stefan glances at both his siblings, "Where? I'm on my way."

"No, Stefan, Elijah and I need some time alone."

"Listen to me. He can't be trusted he'll use you to get to Klaus." Stefan demands.

Elena pauses for a second, "Elijah is a noble man, Stefan. He lives by a code of honor. I can trust him. He knows that I'd be incredibly stupid to betray him again. By removing the dagger, I have proven myself."

"You can't do this alone."

"It's my decision, Stefan. Please respect it. And make sure that Damon doesn't do anything stupid. I'll be in touch."

The phone line goes dead, Lola looks over to Stefan confused, "Did she just hang up on you?"

Stefan nods, "She did."

Damon shrugs, "She's lost it."

Lola glances over to Damon, "Apology accepted by the way."

"What apology?" Damon says frowning over to his sister confused.

Lola flashes an innocent smile over to Damon, "Oh just the apology I imagined in my head from you considering you thought I had something to do with this."

Damon scoffs, "I never said anything like that!"

Lola glares at Damon, "No your mouth didn't, but your face certainly did."

Damon is just about to argue back but Stefan interrupts not wanting to get in the middle of yet another Lola VS Damon argument, "Both of you just shut up. If anyone can get him to help us kill Klaus, it's her."

Damon scoffs, "Bonnie's the way to kill Klaus, Stefan. He thinks she's dead. We have a chance with her."

Stefan shrugs, "She'll kill herself in the process. Elena's looking for another way."

"Her way's going to get her killed!" Damon says, he stands up from the couch, "So we need to find her and stop her."

At the same time Damon stands up, Stefan does, "No, you need to back off."

Damon frowns at Stefan, "What?!"

Stefan sighs, "Look, I don't like this any more than you do. But we need to trust her. We gotta just let her do her thing."

"Stefan's right, Damon." Lola says as she stands up from the couch and stands besides her brothers, "We need to trust Elena on this one."

Damon glares at both his siblings, "That might be your plan. Mine's better."

Damon starts to leave the room but Stefan grabs his arm, "I said back off."

Lola stands in the middle of both her brothers and scoffs, "Okay, that's enough. Jesus, it's like we're in a twilight movie!"

Damon scoffs and storms out of the living room.

-----------------------------------------------

LOLA POV:

It's been a couple hours since Damon's pathetic little storming out. I haven't seen him like this since 1864, the last time he was in love with someone.

I just keep thinking why I even came back to this stupid town. I was doing perfectly fine before coming back. I didn't have to deal with my brothers fighting over a girl again and I was quite happy running from Klaus, not just sitting here waiting for him to attack.

"Whatcha thinking about?" Damon asks pulling me out of my thoughts.

I look up at him, he's handing me a glass of bourbon, I take the bourbon as I shrug, "Just thinking why I even bothered coming back to this pathetic town."

Damon scoffs, "Well isn't it obvious?"

I look up at Damon confused, I shrug signalling him to finish speaking.

"You missed your big brother of course." Damon says sarcastically.

More like he guilt tripped me into coming back here because he so poetically put he needed my help. I say nothing back to him, I just roll my eyes and finish the rest of my drink.

Oh great, now Andie is here, hasn't she only just left for work? Ugh, I just never have the energy to deal with her and Damon's fake ass relationship.

Stefan walks in shortly after as his phone rings, "Hello?"

"Hey, Stefan. It's Jenna."

"Jenna, hey." Stefan responds as he takes a seat next to me, I start to listen into the call, as does Damon who is across the room.

"Where's Elena? And Jeremy? No one's answering their phones."

"Ah, Elena's not here at the moment. Is, uh, is everything okay?"

"She left me all these weird messages telling me to stay away from Ric. What's going on?"

Stefan looks over to me trying to find the right words to say, "It's really hard to explain over the phone, but, um, she was hoping that you could stay on campus for a little while longer."

"Oh, well that's kinda hard to do from my kitchen."

Stefan looks over to Damon and I stunned, "Wait, you're home?"

"Yeah. What's going on? Where's Elena? I'm supposed to meet Ric at the Grill for lunch, to talk."

I panic and grab the phone off Stefan, "Jenna, listen to me carefully."

"Lola?"

"Yeah, it's me. Look, whatever you do, do not meet Alaric at the Grill. Stefan and I are going to come over right now and explain everything." I hang up the phone and both Stefan and I stand up, we look over to Damon who isn't bothering to move from his exact spot.

Damon shrugs and smiles sarcastically, "Wow, I'd love to lend you a hand, but you wouldn't want me doing anything stupid."

Stefan glares over to Damon, "You seriously going to be like this?"

Damon shrugs again, "You and your girlfriend are calling the shots. I'm just backing off, Stefan."

Stefan scoffs and walks out the room. I glare over to my big brother, "Considering you're the older brother, you really can be the biggest child out of us all." I follow Stefan out of the house and make our way over to see Jenna.

----------------------------------------------

Stefan and I arrive at the Gilbert house. Before we get to the steps leading to the house Stefan stands in front of me stopping me as I walk, "Hey, you sure you're gonna be okay dealing with this?"

I roll my eyes at Stefan, it's sweet he is being the protective brother but now really isn't the time for this, "Stefan it's fine. Worry about me later, right now we need to make sure Jenna is okay."

Stefan responds with a simple nod, we both continue to walk towards the door. Stefan knocks and Jenna lets us both in.

"Hey, Jenna. Thank you so much for not going to the Grill." Stefan says as we both enter the house.

Jenna stays standing by the door looking awkward, "Um, Stefan..."

I look over to Jenna, "No, listen. We can explain."

Jenna looks over my shoulder, I turn to see AlariKlaus standing there looking as smug as ever. Stefan protectively stands in front of both Jenna and I.

"Hi, Stefan, hi Lola. How's it going?" Alaric says with a smug attitude while smirking.

We're all now stood in the kitchen, Jenna is standing on one side of the kitchen, Stefan and I are stood on the opposite side to her. Alaric is stood by the island chopping up food.

"You know, I find chopping...calming." Alaric says as he chops up some food, he looks up at us all and smiles, "The feel of the blade in the hand, maybe."

Jenna is giving us all glaring glances, "I'm still waiting for someone to tell me what the hell's going on."

Alaric looks over to me and smiles smugly, "Well, would you like to tell her, Lola, or should I?"

Jenna looks over to me confused, "Tell me what?"

"Do you believe in vampires, Jenna?" Alaric asks looking over to Jenna, she looks back at him confused and not saying anything, Alaric laughs, "No? Well, who does, right? But believe it or not, they do have a place in our history. And as a history teacher, I find them fascinating."

"Why are we talking about this?" Jenna asks as she starts to get impatient.

"Well, you've been angry with me for keeping secrets, and this is one of my secrets. I'm obsessed with vampires." Alaric says, he sighs and then begins to laugh, "There. I said it." Alaric turns his back to us as he starts cooking on the stove.

Jenna scoffs, "Are you joking?"

"Not at all." Alaric then turns to face us again, looking towards Stefan, "How about you, Stefan? Are you a fan of vampires?"

"In literature. Bram Stoker." Stefan says, he slowly walks towards the island, "It's dense, but I appreciate it."

"Hmm. Did you know that vampires are the oldest creatures of the night?" Alaric says as he smirks over to Stefan, he then turns to face Jenna and shrugs slightly, "Except for werewolves, of course."

"Werewolves." Jenna mumbles, she scoffs, "Werewolves. Now I know you're joking." Jenna starts to walk over to the dining table.

Alaric laughs slightly, "You know, I've read that there's an Aztec curse on both species that keeps werewolves slaves to the Moon and vampires bound by the Sun." He looks over to me and smirks, "Isn't that right, Lola? You know, they say these creatures would do anything to have this curse broken and that they wouldn't care who they had to kill to do it."

Jenna looks at him alarmed, she looks over to me with the same expression, "Lola, what's he talking about?"

I look over to Jenna awkward, trying to find the right words to say, but before I can say anything, Alaric speaks, "Food is ready."

We're all sat around the dining table, I don't even know where to look; this is beyond awkward. Jenna is sat at one end of the table, Stefan is on the opposite end and "Alaric" and I are sat in the middle.

Every time I look up it's either Stefan glaring at Alaric, Alaric aka Klaus smirking over to me being the arrogant prick he always is and then poor Jenna is just looking between us all confused trying to work out what's going on.

"Oh, I know this all sounds so crazy, but...vampires are real." Alaric says to Jenna, he turns to face me and smirks yet again, "Lola can agree, can't you?"

I laugh to myself slightly and look up at him with a sarcastic grin on my face, "I actually have no idea what you're talking about, Ric."

Alaric laughs, "Sure you do." He turns to face Jenna looking smug, "You know Jenna, Lola and I actually met a long time ago, 1887 if I remember correctly."

Jenna scoffs, growing tired of this little performance, "Yeah right, 1887, really?"

"Lola loved playing hard to get, but in the end she fell for me just as much as I fell for her." Alaric looks at me and smiles, he places his hand on top of mine that is on the table, "Isn't that right, love?"

I can see Stefan in the corner of my eye getting more and more irritated at this entire situation. I look over to him and give him my classic older sister look of don't you dare do anything stupid.

I laugh softly as I look down at Alaric's hand on mine, I snatch my own hand out of his hold and glare up at him, "Hm, I see you're still the same old narcissistic ass you always have been, Nik."

As if it wasn't even more possible of Jenna looking even more confused, now I've called Alaric, Nik, she is giving me the same look Damon does when he has to do math, "Wait, Nik? Lola, what's going on?"

"Oh there's just so much you don't know, Jenna. Let's catch Jenna up on everything shall we?" Alaric says, he stands up from his seat and grabs the bottle of wine, "Now, who would care for some more wine?"

"Get out." Jenna snaps.

"Excuse me?" Alaric retorts.

Jenna shakes her head trying to wrap her mind around everything going on, "I don't know what it is you're trying to do or why you're saying these things, but..."

"Jenna..." Alaric says trying to reason.

"I said get out!" Jenna shouts.

Stefan stands up and walks towards Alaric, glaring at him, "You heard her."

Alaric glares back at Stefan, "I'm afraid I don't want to."

Jenna shrugs as she stands up from her seat, "Fine! I'll go."

Alaric picks a knife up from the counter and points it in Jenna's direction in a threatening manner, "You're not going anywhere."

I quickly stand up and stand in front of Jenna, as Stefan grabs Alaric and pushes him against the wall with his vamp speed and presses the knife on Alaric's throat.

"Stefan!" Jenna shouts out in panic.

"Jenna, get out of here now!" Stefan demands as he still holds Alaric up against the wall.

Alaric smirks at Stefan, "You can't kill me, Stefan."

"Watch me!" Stefan snaps as he adds pressure on the knife.

Alaric is struggling in Stefan's hold, "I may not have a witch protecting me today, but if you kill this body, what's to stop me from choosing Jenna as my next one?"

"Jenna, go." Stefan says not looking away from Alaric.

"But you're...you..." Jenna mumbles to herself.

Stefan turns to face us both, his vamp features have appeared, "I said go!" He shouts.

Jenna runs out of the house in panic, I run after her. Just as I run out I can hear Alaric speaking again, "Kill me. Just remind Elena how easy it will be for me to get my revenge if she tries to stop me from breaking this curse."

I run out of the house following Jenna, she is in the middle of the road having a panic attack which is totally understandable.

"Jenna, wait!" I shout out as I walk over to her.

Jenna looks over to me terrified, "What the hell are you people?"

I look over to her panicking, trying to find the right words to say, "If you just let me explain-"

"Tell me what you are!" Jenna shouts interrupting me.

Stefan has now walked out of the house and is stood next to me, I look over to Jenna and sigh, "Well, we're sort of...kind of...vampires." I mumble the last part.

Jenna looks at us both even more terrified and also confused, "What?" She pretty much whispers but we can hear her.

Stefan sighs, "We're vampires, Jenna."

Jenna shakes her head in disbelief, "That's not possible."

I take a few steps towards Jenna but she takes a few steps away from me, "Please just let us explain, come to the boarding house with us."

"I don't want to go anywhere with people like you." Jenna snaps with tears running down her face.

"Hey, Jenna. Look, it's me." I say softly as I step closer to her, Jenna stays in her same spot, not making eye contact with me. I gently place my hand on her shoulder, she looks up at me still terrified, "It's still me. It's still Lola who gets drunk on tequila with you, just trust me. Please."

Jenna hesitates at first but agrees to come with Stefan and I and head back to the boarding house.

----------------------------------------------------

Jenna is sat in the library, I've got to make her a drink. As I walk back towards the library, Stefan stops me, "Want me to go in there with you?"

I smile weakly up at Stefan, "No, it's fine. I'll talk to her."

I walk back into the library, Jenna is sat down looking deadpanned, the odd stray tear still falling down her face. I walk up to her and she looks up at me not changing her expression, I hand her a mug of coffee, she takes it and takes a sip.

"Jenna, I'm so sorry. I wanted to tell you, but...it was just for your own safety that you didn't know." I say as I crouch down in front of her.

Jenna looks at me scared, "Are you going to hurt me?"

I look at her shocked that she would think that, but also not surprised she would think that, I mean she has just found out I'm a vampire so it's kinda understandable. "What?! No! No, I'm not going to hurt you. You're my friend." I plead as I take a seat next to her on the couch.

"How old are you?" Jenna asks as she looks down at the mug of coffee.

"Uh, I'm 167 years old." I say, Jenna looks at me shocked, I laugh it off, "I know, I don't look it, I can give you the name of a great moisturiser."

Jenna laughs slightly but then starts to look panic-striken, "How is this even possible?"

I sigh not even knowing how to start explaining all of this, "Well, that's a long story."

Before I can explain anything else, I can hear Elena walk into the house, "Elena's here. I'll give you both some space."

As I walk out of the room, I meet Elena, she smiles sympathetically at me, "I know everything. I know that you've knew everything too."

I look at her panicking, "Elena, if you just let me explain-"

Elena puts her hands up to signal me to stop speaking, and she pulls me into a hug, "I get why you did what you did. I'm not mad at you."

Elena pulls away from the hug, giving me one last smile and she then heads into the library to speak to Jenna.

Stefan and I have been waiting in the hallway, anxiously waiting to see what's happened between Elena and Jenna. Elena eventually walks out of the library and closes the door behind her.

Stefan walks over to Elena, "Is she gonna be okay?"

"She's in shock. I tried to tell her as much as I could, but I barely scratched the surface." Elena says looking distressed.

Stefan sighs, "I'm so sorry, Elena. I hate this."

Elena slightly smiles up at Stefan, "It's not your fault, Stefan." Stefan scoffs at Elena's comment, she looks over his shoulder at me, "It's not your fault either, Lola. It's mine. Anyway...I have to go back to Elijah." Elena starts to walk towards the door.

Stefan stops Elena in her pace and gently grabs onto her arm, "Wait, what? No, no!"

Elena sighs, "Stefan, I promised him that I would return. I can't break that promise."

Stefan sighs trying to think of what to say but in the end he just nods in agreement.

Elena smiles up at him, "I'll be okay."

Elena continues to walk towards the front door, Damon and Andie both appear and are walking towards Elena.

Damon is glaring over at Elena, "Where do you think you're going?"

"Back to Elijah." Elena replies bluntly.

Damon vamp speeds closer to Elena, still glaring at her, "No."

Elena sighs as she tries to walk away from him, "Get out of my way, Dam..."

Elena stops speaking when Damon grabs her by her arms, "If you so much as try and take a step out of this house..."

"Damon, easy." Andie says softly, standing behind Damon.

"Stay out of this, Andie." Damon snaps as he continues to glare down at Elena.

"Let her go." Stefan says in a stern tone.

Damon scoffs, not breaking his eye contact from Elena, "Are you kidding me? We just got her back."

Stefan grabs Damon's arm, "You heard me. I said let her go."

Damon looks down at Stefan's hand on his arm, he then looks up at Stefan and glares at him, "That's twice today you've stood in my way. I wouldn't try a third." Damon threatens.

Elena leaves the boarding house and goes back to speak to Elijah. Elena knows that I know everything, I need to tell my brothers myself before Elena says anything. She wouldn't be saying it out of spite, well I hope she wouldn't. But maybe they won't get as mad if I say it to them myself? Oh who am I kidding, they're going to be pissed either way.

I head into the living room and pour myself a glass of bourbon, finishing it within seconds trying to psych myself up into telling Stefan and Damon what I know.

Before I can even start psyching myself up, Stefan walks in, "Hey, what did Elena mean by it's not your fault?"

Here we go. I close my eyes as I take a deep breath, "Look, I didn't want it to happen like this but I need to speak to you both." I turn to face Stefan, "There's some things I haven't told you."

Damon walks in, "What haven't you told us?"

I don't think I've been this anxious speaking to my brothers in decades, "Things about the originals. Uh, Elijah and Klaus...they're brothers."

Stefan looks over to me confused, "Brothers?"

I don't say anything but nod as a response. Stefan sighs, "Why didn't you tell us this?"

I look over to Damon who I can tell is trying his hardest to read my mind to find out what I'm about to say, I frown and look at them both awkward, trying to get my words out, "Well, there's more. The curse, the sun and the moon curse, it's fake."

Damon looks over at me with a raised brow, he takes a few steps towards me, "What do you mean fake?"

"It's a cover up for the real curse." I explain, "A curse that is just placed on Klaus. It stops him from being his true self."

Damon scoffs as he grows impatient, "Can you explain all of this in english instead of riddles please?"

I have this horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach, unable to speak. Both brothers looking at me to continue on what I was going to say, either way they're both going to hate me.

I take a deep breath as I close my eyes, unable to look at them, "Klaus is a vampire...but he is also a werewolf; he's both." I open my eyes to see both brothers both looking at me dumbfounded, I sigh before I continue, "A hybrid. A curse was put on him to mask his werewolf side and it's been like that for a thousand years, this is the curse he wants to break."

I can see the hate and betrayal fill Damon's eyes as he glares at me, he starts to storm towards me, "And you're just telling us this now?"

As Damon is about to walk past Stefan, Stefan reaches his arm out, causing Damon to stop walking towards me. Damon glares over at Stefan, but there is no emotion shown from Stefan, "Damon, back off."

Damon scoffs, "Don't start with me, Stefan! Yet again, our sister has lied to us."

My eyes are full of tears ready to escape, I feel like I have a lump in my throat that won't go, "I had only just found out about the real curse a couple weeks ago, that night at the Lockwood's tea party. We were trying to make sure that no curse was going to get broken so I didn't think it really mattered to say which curse it was."

Damon's glare leaves his face and he look at me emotionless, he sighs as he turns his back to me, "I can't even look at you."

I rush to stand in front of him and put my hands against his chest as I plead, "Damon, please! I'm sorry!"

Damon swats my hands off him and starts let out a scornful laugh, "I totally get why you're here now. I was right all along, you were just here to get information to feed back to your pathetic little second hand family."

Ouch. I can't say I didn't deserve that though. I look up at Damon, my eyes filled with sadness as the tears stream down my face, "It's not like that! Do you really think I'd be helping with plans that involve killing Klaus if I was just here for information?!"

Damon sighs as he shakes his head, "I don't know, Lola." He practically whispers, "I feel like I don't even know you anymore."

I open my mouth to respond as he walks out the room, but his words strike me silent. I look over to Stefan with pleading eyes, "Stefan..."

Stefan's face is showing nothing but hurt, he says nothing but sighs heavily and runs a hand through his hair. He opens his mouth to speak but then clamps it shut again and follows Damon out of the room.

I'm left alone in the room, my knees weaken and I collapse onto the couch. I bury my face into my hands as I sob. I've pretty much just ruined my relationship with my brothers and for what? Did I do this to protect my brothers, or did I do this to protect Klaus?

All these years of hating him and yet there is always something in me that wants to protect him.

----------------------------------------------

It's been a hot minute since Damon has pretty much disowned me. I've made my way through most of the bourbon in the living room with a mixture of tears, keeping it classy.

I get snapped out of feeling sorry for myself when I hear the front door open. I quickly wipe away the tears from my face as I look over to the door and see Elena and Elijah walking in. They both look at me concerned, my red puffy eyes must look real sexy right now.

I smile as I walk over to them, "Hey."

Elena looks at me worried, "What's happened?"

I laugh her concern off and shrug, "Nothing to worry about, Damon has just told me how he truly feels about me."

"So I assume that they know?" Elijah asks softly.

My smile vanishes as I nod in response, trying to hold back yet more tears. Before anything else can be said, we can all hear banging and smashing from the other room. Pretty obvious that my dumbass brothers are fighting, I wonder why...oh yeah Elena.

We all rush in to see Stefan and Damon fighting, both of them grabbing the other as though they are wrestling like they used to as kids for god sake.

"Stop!" Elena shouts at them both, they both break apart.

They look up at us all, Damons eyes fall upon Elijah standing between Elena and I, he scoffs, "Now you've invited him in?"

Elena takes a few steps forward, "Elijah and I have renewed the terms of our deal."

"Really?" Damon retorts, this is the worst I've seen his shitty attitude since I came back here.

"The two of you will come to no harm at my hands." Elijah speaks up.

Damon's glare on Elijah now turns to me, "And would about her?" Wow, he isn't going to even say my name? Okay then, that hurt. I can't even look at either of my brothers right now.

"If the 'her' you are referring to is your sister, no. No harm was every going to come to Charlotte, she means too much to my family and I." Elijah says, he looks over to me and softly smiles which I return, he glares over to Damon, "Not sure I can say you feel the same. Charlotte will not come to any harm, I will not allow it." Elijah steps closer to them both, "I only ask for one thing in return."

Damon scoffs, "What?"

"An apology."

Stefan raises his brows at Elijah and Damon looks at him agitated, "A what?"

Stefan steps closer to Elijah and sighs, "I'm sorry for the part that I played in your death. I was protecting Elena. I will always protect Elena."

Elijah nods, "I understand."

"I also just want to say that no matter what happens, I'll always protect Lola too, forever." Stefan says as he smiles up at me.

Stefan's words towards me take me back a bit. Out of both Damon and Stefan I would have expected Stefan to be pissed at me more. I let out a sigh of relief and smile softly over to him which he returns back to me.

All eyes now go to Damon. He shakes his head and curls up his nose.

"The sacrifice is going to happen, Damon. Bonnie will be able to kill Klaus without hurting herself and Elijah knows how to save my life. I told you I'd find another way. And I did." Elena says proud of herself, and to tell the truth, I'm also kind of proud of her. For once she wasn't being the little damsel she usually is.

Damon looks over to Elijah with a raised brow, "Is that true?"

"It is." Elijah bluntly responds.

Damon glares over to Elena, "And you're trusting him?"

"I am." Elena says confidently.

Damon glares at us all one by one, "You can all go to hell." He walks out of the library in yet another classic Damon huff.

Stefan sighs as he turns to face us all again, "He's angry with me right now. But he'll come around."

"Perhaps." Elijah says quietly.

---------------------------------------------------

Whether I won the bet I made with myself earlier about Elena or not, I was going to get drunk on the roof either way. So here I am, doing exactly that. It's been a good few years since I've had my classic 'I feel like shit' cocktail, it's nothing fancy, just red wine mixed with blood. But for some reason it always calms me down from whatever mood I'm in.

I've heard too much of Klaus' name today. Talking about him brings up so many memories, amazing memories but also distressing memories, they pretty much outweighs the amazing ones right now.

I know the time is coming, Klaus is going to be back to his normal self soon enough, he's going to try and break the curse but it will result in his death. I know this needs to happen, we need to save Elena and I won't be constantly looking over my shoulder anymore.

Deep down I don't want that to happen though. He always does this, even when he isn't here properly he still manages to pull me right back in. I am just so sick of feeling like this, constantly feeling torn on what to do about that stupid man.

"There you are!" I hear Stefan shouting from down on the ground, he jumps up and sits next to me on the roof, "I thought I'd find you up here."

I say nothing but just give him a hint of a smile at the corner of my mouth. He looks down at my glass and laughs, "Oh, the red wine and blood cocktail has made a return. You must really be feeling crappy. How you doing?"

I laugh back and purse my lips as I look up into the night sky, "Well lets see, Klaus is back, he is here to kill your girlfriend and yet again my brothers think I'm working against you all." I turn to face him and smile, "...how do you think I'm doing?"

Stefan sighs as he puts his arm around me, "Hey, I don't think that. Damon is just mad right now, he doesn't really think that either."

I shrug as I look down at my glass, "I mean I don't blame him for thinking that, I did miss out the part where Klaus and Elijah are in fact brothers and also missed out the tiny detail that the curse Klaus wants to break is not the sun and moon curse...because it's fake."

"I get why you didn't tell us. I mean, I wish you did but I'm not mad about it." Stefan says sincerely. What the hell is happening right now? Stefan isn't angry at me, who's girlfriend is in danger and yet my ass of an older brother is?

I can't help but laugh, "You have more of a right than Damon to be angry at me."

Stefan sighs as he thinks for a second, he looks back at me and raises his brow, "Don't you think we've spent long enough being angry at each other over the years? You're my sister and no matter what happens you will still be my sister."

Great, here we go again. The tears are staring again, I've cried more today than I have in this decade! I look up at my sweet little brother as the tears fall down my face, "I really am sorry Stefan, I was just scared I guess."

Stefan pulls me in closer, I rest my head on his shoulder, "Just promise me you'll come to me about anything and everything from now on, okay?"

I lightly nod. We just sit there for a bit longer, not speaking, just looking out at the night sky. Stefan is probably worrying about Elena, rightfully so. I can't help but think these last few weeks are only the beginning to an even crazier time. Which is most likely going to start with a reunion with the one and only...Niklaus Mikaelson.

{{A/N: For those who have been reading since I first published this story, you may be confused about Lola going to New Orleans in 1887 and not 1886; I've changed the story around so that Lola actually goes to New Orleans a year later than originally written; as it matches up when Rebekah is undaggered.}}
