Chapter Ninety-Six

Elaena and Daenerys were riding on their white stallions into the city of Meereen with their army and friends by their side. Crystal trailed beside them, keeping close to them. It was only yesterday when the young direwolf was learning how to hunt, now she was as big as a small boat. Nymeria and Lady trailed beside their older sister keeping guard.
The city was ecstatic at the arrival of the Dragon queens. The battle had been a success thanks to Grey Worm and Jolothan's tactics.
Eddarion and Drogon flew above them in the sky along with the other dragons, screeching out in harmony making their way towards the Great Pyramid. Sansa and Arya rode behind the entourage gazing around at the city curious, Sandor rode beside them scrunching his nose in disgust at the foul odor around him." Fuckin hells." He mumbled under his breath.
Despite the smell, Meereen truly had its perks and beauties in its own way. Sansa admired the scenery , while Arya kept looking around. That jackal god struck fear in her heart for an unexplainable reason.
" It's so beautiful here." Sansa said, staring up at the Pyramids in awe. " Don't you think?" She asked, turning her to her sister.
"It's okay," Arya mumbled.
"It's much more than okay this place is amazing." The young red wolf gushed. It reminds me of Dorne, but more big and grand. "
" It smells like a shit, Little Bird," Sandor said.
The young she-wolf nodded. " Yeah, I agree with the Dog here, it smells terrible."
Sandor turned to the wolf bitch. " I'm not a dog, little Wolf."
" Of course you are, you were Joffrey's pet." Arya snickered.
" Arya." Sansa scolded, glancing at her sister in disbelief. Think back, she shouldn't have called Sandor "dog"; it was Joffrey's thing, and she loathed to follow his example.
Sandor glared at the girl. " Not anymore." I'm a knight now, your sister's Knight."
Arya let out a sarcastic laugh. " Of course, you are not really much of a surprise. Sansa adores knights lucky for her to finally have found one, a skilled one at that."
Sansa glared at her sister. " What's wrong now?"
" None of your business." The young she-wolf grumbled. Why don't you just worry about your Hound here as you have been doing this entire time?"
" I'm just trying to help Arya," Sansa said. "No need to get so defensive."
Arya turned to her sister. " I don't need your help so just bug off."
. " Look, I know you don't like Sandor, but there's no need to be giving him the side eye all the time." Sansa said.
" He's lucky that's all he's getting." The young she-wolf said, giving a dark look to Sandor. "He deserves far worse for what he did to Mycah."
The Hound shook his head. " Orders are orders, Girl." I wasn't going to lose my head over a boy.
" You didn't have to butcher him like some dog." Arya hissed, tears welling in her eyes.
" I did what I had to do." He said. And I'm not sorry for it."
" Why, youβ." She was about to say until Sansa cut her off.
" Arya, stop it," Sansa growled. "What happened to Mycah was terrible, but The Queen was the one who ordered his death and Sandor was only following orders."
" He murdered him in cold blood." The young she-wolf retorted.
" He had no choice. I know you are not one for politics, but Cersei is his employer. One wrong move and he could lose his post, or even worse, beheaded " Sansa defended.
Arya chuckled. " Just like you hmm, turning against Father and Robb along with the rest of our family for your beloved Joffrey."
Sansa's eyes began to fill with sadness. " I didn't betray anyone," I stood before the iron throne begging on my knees in front of Joffrey, the Queen, and the whole court asking for Father to be spared.
" And you stupidly believed your beloved Joffrey would spare father." Arya scoffed.
"I was young and stupid and I'm sorry for that." Sansa said. If I could go back into the past and fix things, I would, but I can't. I made a mistake, Sister." And it caused Father's, Mother's, and Robb's lives.
Tears began to well in the young red wolf's eyes as she recalled the events that lead up to her father's execution. If only she listened to Elaena and Arya warnings about trusting Joffrey and the Queen, maybe then father would still be alive today.
Sensing her mistress sadness from a few meters away, Lady strolled over towards Sansa and let out a howl staring up at her in concern.
" I'm okay, girl." Sansa mumbled.
Arya turned away from her sister and rode on feeling guilt begin to fill within her. Nymeria walked over towards her mistress, tilting her head up, growling at her softly.
The young she-wolf gazed down at her wolf. " I know.. I'm being a jerk." I'm sorry, girl.
Nymeria let out a howl in agreement gazing at her mistress with a look.
" A lovely girl is full of anger." A voice said beside her.
Arya looked sideways and saw a young brown haired man riding beside her. " What's it to you?" She hissed.
The man tilted his head staring at the young she-wolf as he spoke to her. " A man has upset a girl."
She rolled her eyes. " I'm not upset, just annoyed by this conversation." And, by the way, what's with speaking in third person?
The man stared at her deeply. " Where a man comes from that is the way people speak there.
" And where does a man come from?" Arya asked, imitating his speech pattern.
" A man comes from the free city of Lorath." He replied.
Arya raised her eyebrows in surprise and glanced at the man deeply. " I thought all Ghiscari soldiers were originally slaves." How did you end up a slave if you were born in Lorath?"
" A man was sold by his father when he was a boy." He answered, letting the lies flow directly out of his mouth smoothly.
He couldn't afford to let his cover story slip now he had a job to do. The Many Faced God waited for no one, if he desires death he shall receive it. But, in this case it wasn't death that his god desired rather something else.
She stared at the man in pity. " I'm sorry that happened to you."
He smiled softly at the girl. " No need to be sorry, lovely girl." A man is now free thanks to your sister the Queen. "
" I'm Arya.. by the way " The young she-wolf mumbled.
He nodded. " A man knows."
" And you are?" She inquired, gently.
" This man has the honor to be Jaqen H'ghar."He answered.
The young she-wolf gazed at the man deeply. " Why does a man choose to serve?"
He gazed at the girl deeply. " All men must serve."
Arya stared at him confused. " No, they don't." My sister gave you all a choice to join her or leave. "
" Yes, a Queen is quite generous to her soldiers." He hummed. "A man has chosen to take vows and must follow through with them."
" If you wish to leave you can just tell my sister that." The young she-wolf said. "I'm sure she will let you go and live your life."
He shook his head. " A lovely girl doesn't understand." There is no turning back once you give your life to a cause. Only death may pay for life."
Arya stared at him skeptical at his words unsure what to make of them. She said nothing and rode past him not wanting to conversate with the strange man any longer.

Sometime later, Elaena and Daenerys stood in front of the Great Pyramid in front of their new freed people. Cheers and praises rang out in the crowd from the people for the Dragon Queens happy to finally be freed from their slave masters.
The Unsillled and Ghiscari stood straight and tall next to their Queens. Samara, Daniselle, Naerella, Sansa, Sandor and Arya stood beside Elaena side while Missandei, Ser Barristean and Jorah stood next to Daenerys.
Jolothan, Cadal and Andros along with other soldiers were bringing forward the slave masters who were chained up in shackles.
Elaena and Daenerys stare down at the great Masters debating on what to do with them. Daenerys turned to Jorah and said. " Remind me Ser Jorah, how many children did the great Masters nail to mile posts.
Ser Jorah turned to his Khalessi. " One hundred and sixty three, Khalessi.
" Yes, that was it." Daenerys said, her eyes beginning to darken.
She turned to Greyworm who nodded instantly knowing what his Queen was ordering. Greyworm turned to one of his Unsuilled brother and spoke.
Elaena instantly caught on what Daenerys was about to do and couldn't help but feel it was wrong. " May, I speak freely.
The Dragon Queen turned to her niece. " Of course."
" I know they probably don't deserve any type of mercy for what they have done." The young Ice Dragon said. But, we don't know if they are all guilty of slaughtering those children."
" And, what do you suppose we do?" Daenerys inquired. Let them go, we have to answer justice with injustice, niece."
Elaena nodded. "I agree the great masters should be punished for their crimes. But we don't have any proof that they did what we think they did. I think we should give them all a chance at a fair trial."
" I agree." Ser Barristean said, backing up the young Ice Dragon. This city belongs to you both; all of these people are your subjects. Sometimes it's best to answer injustice with fairness."
" They butchered innocent children." Daenerys defended, still not convinced.
" We don't know if that's true ." Elaena said. I understand your motives for wanting to punish the great Masters for their crimes, but we don't have any evidence of their wrong doings."
Jorah scoffed at the Ice Queen's words not liking how she was going against his Khalessi. " No offense, your Grace... honor has no place in the world. Honor will get you killed as you well know what happened to your father and cousin Robb.
The two Stark's eyes widened in anger as they heard those words escape from the Knight's mouth about their father and brother.
" How dare you." Sansa hissed, glaring at her Bear knight coldly.
" You know you are quite a hypocrite Ser Jorah to judge our family when you are the one who stole slaves to make your wife happy." Arya commented. In the end, she never loved you and ended up marrying another.
Ser Jorah stood there stunned, unsure how to respond back. For the first time, the Knight felt shattered and broken into pieces. " Why, you little." He was about to say, but Daenerys grabbed his arm, calming him down.
Samara smirked at the young she-wolf produly glad that she had finally put the Knight in his place. Fuytuskui would be so proud of how far Arya came with her witts.
" Ser Jorah, I appreciate your advice but you don't have any say in the matter." Elaena said, glancing at him coldly.
The young Ice Dragon turned her gaze on her aunt. " We came to Meereen to help these people, reshape the city into something great. In order to do that, we must have some diplomacy."
Daenerys nodded knowing her niece was right no matter how much she wished to crustify the Masters and show them who was in charge. Having diplomacy was important in ruling a city. " I agree."
The young Dragon queen turned to her commander ordering him to lock all of the Great Masters in the dungeons below the Pyramid for now.
Greyworm stared at his queen confused wondering why she was changing his mind, but didn't question it. He turned to his fellow Unsullied giving them the orders.
Jolotha, Cadal and Andros stared up at their Queen for confirmation if they should follow in the Unsullied footsteps confused on what they were to do.
Elaena turned her gaze to them and spoke . " Lock them up and keep them underneath the Pyramids."
They nodded following her orders and began to lead the Great Masters to the dungeons.
" That was a wise choice, your Grace. " Ser Barristean said, smiling at the two Dragons.
" I think it's a foolish one." Ser Jorah grumbled. "What if they manage to escape and plan a rebellion against us?"
" With what army?" Daenerys said. We have the Unsullied, Ghiscari and Second Sons by our side."
" And the Ghiscari fleet." Elaena added.
" We destroyed most of their allas." Samara spoke up.
" Except for one." Ser Jorah said.
Daenerys's eyes peaked up in curiosity. " And who would that be?"
" Volantis." Ser Jorah replied.
" Some of the slave Masters from Yunkai escaped and fled to Volantis." Ser Barristean said.
" And, how come no one has told us this?" Elaena inquired, gently.
Ser Barristean shook his head. " We didn't want you two to worry about it.
" Volantis has one of the biggest fleets in the world only being second to the Iron Fleet." Sansa said, remembering her lessons from Lady Mellario in Novoros. "You didn't think you should've told them?"
" We have Dragons on our side," Sandor said. We could easily destroy their fleet if we wish it."
" Yes, but only three dragonriders." Elaena mumbled. *If we had more riders than perhaps we could accomplish the task."
" Not to mention, the Dragons are still growing." Samara said.
" Also, Dragons are not invisible." Naerella said.
Daenerys stood there unsure what to say, starting to feel stressed and anxious. The young Dragon queen never knew ruling could be this hard." If she couldn't keep Meereen from falling back into slavery, how in the gods would she take the Iron throne." She wondered.
" Let's just focus on one task at a time." Ser Barristean advised.
Everyone nodded in agreement.
Elaena and Daenerys headed inside the Great Pyramid followed by the rest of the group. For the first time in over thousands of years, there would be a proper court hearing for the slave masters. This time, the people of Meereen had a voice.
Usually, it would take weeks to hold these trials in another ruler's kingdom. But, the Dragon queens were not the types of rulers that liked to wait; they were determined to handle business now rather than later.
A hundred jurors and twelve judges were selected from the city's pool of legal officers, all aware of what was to come. It was quite the task. The detectives were able to gather the jury pool within a few weeks, and soin enough, everyone were gathered at the largest square at the capital.
"This is quite the occasion, is it not?" Sansa remarked, as she found her seat.
"Yes. Have you attended triels in King's Landing?"
"I did, but all of them were for show. Most people who were arraigned were smallfolk. Gathering a hundred jurors isn't worth it, unless you're in Dorne."
I know, thanks to Myrcella.
"This time, it will be worth it, sister. I mean, come on; it's the people against their slavers!"
Sansa imagined herself drinking her tea while watching the trial. It was after all, a historic affair
"All rise for the court!"
Everyone did, and shared looks. Today, one of the most well-known judges, a Lorathi named Galaxaura, would be the chief judge. Twenty-five jurors stood at her life, another twenty-five to her right. The remaining fifty stood a row behind her, and on the last row was a giant set of scales.
"Today, a hundred slave masters will be put on trial, for their crimes of crucifying children. "
Arya gasped. There were many heartless souls ruling Meereen. She listened to Galaxaura's speech, and zoned out for a few moments
"Bring in the accused."
It was time for due penance.
