Chapter 23
"You guys have everything down?" I ask Jax and Mickey.
"She was working in your division and she was contacted by the people you're looking for in the case you're working on," Jax replies and I hear the sound of him checking the rounds in his gun.
"I heard she went after you at your home," Mickey comments.
"You heard right," I answer. "And she better be here and not at one of the other houses," I say muttering the last part though from Nash's laughter I know he heard me. The house location is in a more rural area of Toronto; we're driving through the neighbourhood and approximately every hundred meters we pass by a home it's like the spaces between the houses continue to grow. Nash slows down in front of the address and I check the time, five minutes until twelve. Mickey parks his car behind Nash's and we all get out of the cars walking up to the front door. I leave Nash to check in with the other precincts while I check my gun and fix my bulletproof vest.
"Nash and Mickey, you two take the front. Jax and I will take the back," I tell the three of them. Between the four of us, Nash and I have the most experience for shit like this so it's best we split up like this.
"Alright, be careful you two," Nash tells us though his eyes linger on mine a moment longer, no doubt I know he's more worried for me.
"You guys too, let's go Jax," I tell him as I lead him around the house, our bodies staying close to the siding. I slowly inch forward, my head peeking around the corner to look at the back porch before I hear Nash's voice announcing who he is and a loud banging on the door before it's broken down.
That's our cue to move in. We step around back and the next thing we hear is yelling coming from inside and we watch the backdoor slam open as a person runs out. My lips turn into a feral grin when I see the person who starts running. My legs start pumping as I run in the snow, following her into the forest behind the property.
"Where the fuck do you think you're going Aurora? You really didn't think it was just two people here for you?" I call out and when she hears my voice I can see her body pushing to run faster away from us. Jax is beside me as we run and I watch as she stumbles, foot catching onto something as it slows her down a bit. I don't waste a single second as we close in on her and I throw my body tackling her into the snow. My only miscalculation is that I miss the ridge leading to the lower part of the forest and we roll down the hill, our bodies breaking the branches from the bushes around us until we stop at the bottom of the ground.
I'm disoriented for a moment before I feel a solid punch landing on my face and I shout out at the impact. But I'm quick to follow as I raise my body and headbutt her back hard. I get my own punch in retaliation and I hear the crunch of her nose bone before blood starts gushing down her face. I wipe the blood from my split lip as she yells and scrambles back from me as she reaches into her jacket whipping out a knife.
"Natalia! Is everything okay down there?" Jax shouts from above.
"Yeah, don't come down here, I'll be fine," I yell back to him.
"I didn't kill you last time but this time I'll make sure of it," she snarls.
"You know I can't take you seriously with all that blood dripping down your face," I laugh coldly as she thrusts the knife in my direction. I grab onto her arm holding the knife, the front of her jacket and with all the strength in my body, I throw her over my shoulder. She gasps as her back forcefully hits the ground and I twist her hand dislodging the knife from her grip.
"Let go of me bitch!" she shouts as she struggles to push me back but I forcefully turn her around, my knee on her back as I grab her other arm, pull out a pair of cuffs and the sound of the cuff clicking in place is the only sound we hear besides our heavy breathing. I get off of her, turning her on her back as she glares up at me, the blood from her nose smeared across her face.
"Did you think you would get away from us? You really don't know how to hide your tracks but then again it wouldn't have even mattered since we were going to find you anyways and you have so many things to answer to now," I say as I crouch down in front of her. "By the way, was your friend from the other day hiding with you too." She doesn't say anything as she continues to glare and I take her silence as a yes. My phone starts ringing and I pull it out of my jacket pocket and I'm thankful to see that it didn't break when we fell.
"Natalia, we can't hear anything from down there," Nash says and I move to look at the top of the hill and wave my hand up at Nash showing him okay.
"I have her cuffed but we'll have to take her to the hospital," I tell him as I go back to Aurora.
"What'd you do to her?" he questions as she watches me and I hold my phone between my shoulder and ear as I pull her up to stand.
"I broke her nose and it's bleeding pretty badly," I answer as I start leading her through the trees to the top of the hill. "I didn't really have a choice."
"Alright, as soon as you're up here we'll take her to the hospital," he tells me as we trek through the deep snow, climbing back up. "We got her friend but I don't think he knew what was going on. He cracked so fast and just said he was contacted by her to help her that day at your apartment."
"We'll pass him off to one of the other officers at the precinct to see if his story checks out," I say to him as we reach the top.
"You fucking wrecked her face," Jax comments as he takes over and holds onto Aurora. I hang up the phone and we all start walking back to the house.
"Well, she got one on me first," I say pointing to my cheek before poking it. The spot is already tender and I don't even need a mirror to know it's already changed.
"You'll need stitches too," he adds as he points to my other cheek and it's wet when my fingers touch my face. A tree branch probably got snagged onto my face and now that Jax mentioned it, I'm now noticing the stinging pain on my face.
"Great, just what I needed," I mutter as I wipe my fingers on my pants. We walk back towards the house and we see Nash plus Mickey waiting for us, the other person already in Mickey's car.
"What happened to you?" Nash questions when he sees us.
"We rolled down a hill," I answer as I open the back door and Jax pushes her inside. "We'll meet you guys at the precinct later after we visit the hospital."
"Got it, we'll see you later," he answers as he gets into the other car and we watch Mickey drive them out.
"We definitely need to get you checked out too, let's get out of here," Nash tells me as we get into our car. Nash starts up the car and I look at Aurora through the rearview mirror.
"Get that look off of your face, you knew this was coming," I tell her as Nash pulls out and he hands me a cloth to push pressure on my cheek.
"So how did it feel? You got that satisfaction?" Nash questions quietly as he glances over at me. My eyes flicker back to Aurora's busted face plus knowing I got to cuff her, a grin takes over my face.
"So much better than expected."

"How? Why?" Haruto questions as he walks into my examination room. "Did a knife cut you?"
"No, a branch did," I tell him as he sanitizes his hands before putting on a pair of gloves.
"And what did you do? Fight a tree?" he asks as he moves a tray of surgical tools and stitching tools beside him.
"No, I rolled down a hill and then a branch cut into my face although I didn't realize it until after the fact," I tell him as I turn my cheek towards him.
"Of course you didn't," he chuckles as he starts disinfecting my cheek and I hold back a wince from the antiseptic. "You're definitely going to need stitches, it's too deep for me to just put a gauze over it."
"You do your thing Haruto-sensei," I tell him and I don't even have to look at him to know he's rolling his eyes. It's silent for the next fifteen minutes as Haruto stitches my cheek, my eyes focused on the clock watching the seconds and minute hands go by.
"Alright we're done," he says as he moves back from me. I open the camera to my phone and look at the stitches going down my cheek. An occupational hazard that comes with the job, I didn't think I'd be ever getting stitches on my face. "Let me put a bandage on it for you and then before you leave I'll tell you how to take care of it. You have to go see the other person you guys brought in right?"
"Yeah, I broke her nose," I tell him. "She attacked me at my apartment the other day."
"I heard about that from Julia but the both of you got out of it unscathed right," he says as he places the bandage over my cheek.
"Yeah, but I haven't felt anxiety like that before," I comment as he takes off his gloves and goes to wash his hands.
"It's good you caught her," he tells me as he dries his hands. "Do you need any painkillers? That bruise on your other cheek looks nasty too. "
"No, I'll probably just take one later when I'm home and I'll just go to the nurse's station and ask for a bag of ice," I say to him and he raises his brow before a teasing smirk is on his face.
"When you're home? This is the first that I'm hearing Nash's apartment is now home for you," he says as his smirk widens.
"You know what, I'm not even going to rise to the bait," I tell him as he hands me a sanitizing wipe as I clean the rest off the rest of the blood on my face.
"I don't even have to say anything, the blush on your cheeks speaks for you," he teases while laughing and I roll my eyes.
"I'm going to look for Nash," I say to him as I stand up and throw the wipe away before sanitizing my hands. I walk out of the room as his laughter gets louder and I go straight to the nurse's station.
"Is everything okay?" a nurse asks as she comes to me.
"I just need ice for this," I say as I point to my cheek and she nods her head.
"Alright, give me one second," she says before walking away. I wait a couple of minutes until she comes back and hands me a small bag of ice.
"Thank you," I tell her as my phone starts ringing.
"Are you finished?" Nash questions when I pick up.
"Yeah, where are you?" I ask him.
"On the second floor," he tells me as I go to the staircase opting out of taking the elevator.
"Okay, I'll be there in a minute," I answer as I hang up the phone. I quickly climb up to the second floor before going around until I see Nash standing outside a room.
"Stitches?" he asks as he looks at my face.
"And ice," I reply as I move to stand beside him. He holds his arms open for me and I step into them as he looks down at me. He moves the ice from my face to press a warm kiss on my cheek.
"I hate seeing you get hurt," he murmurs as he pulls back and moves the ice back to where it previously was.
"Trust me, I don't like getting hurt either," I sigh as I rest my forehead on his shoulder. "So what's been happening with Aurora?"
"Since she was excessively bleeding they had to stop it, do an x-ray, and now they're talking to her inside," he answers as he wraps his arm around my waist. "Jason called and said that her friend is cooperating with the investigation so we'll just have to see what they'll charge him with. When Aurora is discharged from here we're taking her back to the station so Jason can question her."
"Though I doubt she'll have anything to say about this case but for anything else she might've done, it's going to be a long investigation," I note and I just know he's nodding his head in agreement.
"In any case, at least we're out of questioning her since not only we've worked with her but in my situation, I hooked up with her before, which I'm still fucking regret," he says and now I'm the one nodding my head in agreement.
"Hopefully the warrant for Lucas' bank records went through and we have to hear from the other teams if they found anything substantial at the other houses for our case," I tell him as I move back to keep a small distance from one another. The door to Aurora's hospital room opens as her doctor steps out.
"This is her prescription, I already spoke to her about keeping her head elevated for the next couple of days but bring her back here in three days so we can align her nose since it is crooked, by this time the swelling should have gone down a bit," the doctor tells us. "She should also continue to ice it and if she notices blood or anything else coming out of her nose, bring her back immediately."
"Got it, we'll be sure to keep an eye on it," Nash answers as he hands me a set of keys. "Uncuff her so she can put on her shirt and jacket and then we can leave." I take it from him and walk into the room looking at a disgruntled Aurora as I toss her the pair of jeans sitting on the chair beside the bed.
"I'm uncuffing you so you can dress so don't try any shit otherwise I'll make sure you're a patient here for the foreseeable future," I say to her as I unlock the cuffs and disdain is written all over her face. I move away from her, keeping her in my peripheral vision as she dresses and the only thing I want to do now at this point is sleep for the next century.

A/N I feel like this is my most complicated story but please bear with me!! It'll be edited after I finish but for now, I hope you all enjoyed the chapter! Be sure to leave your thoughts of the chapter in the comments!!
As promised, this is a general recap of what's happened so far.
- Natalia and Nash were called to a crime scene where they found a dead victim. Natalia later met Jade and Julia.
- The victim died from the use of drugs, one they haven't seen before.
- A task force was set to investigate this, Nash's ex-hookup Aurora (forensics investigator) joined the team.
- Went undercover at a club and got a hold of the drugs. Later arrested the man that was in possession of the drug and the dealer was later found dead.
- Unrelated to the case, Natalia and Nash became temporary guardians to Jade when her mother was found with multiple stab wounds.
- The man that was in possession of the drugs who became Natalia's informant gave information that another informant of her's Lucas Garcia was in possession of the drugs. Went to go investigate and Lucas was arrested but both were shot and survived
- Natalia finds Lucas' computer at his bar, Aurora is contacted to get that computer but fails. Goes into hiding and now we're at the current timeline.
Hopefully this gives a refresher for everyone who's reading, I know I needed it when I was writing ^^
