You sit and stay, I don't obey

β‹†Λ–βΊβ€§β‚Šβ˜½β—―β˜Ύβ‚Šβ€§βΊΛ–β‹†

𝕀𝕋 was daytime in Italy, the sun high and relentless, casting golden light over the ancient streets of Volterra. The car Alice had "rented" was speeding down narrow roads, the engine roaring as they tore through the city. Bella sat in the passenger seat, her anxiety mounting, while Rain sulked silently in the back, her arms crossed and her glare fixed on the passing scenery. Rain was still angryβ€”fuming, reallyβ€”but for now, she had no choice but to help save her sister's idiotic boyfriend. The yelling would come later, when they were all still breathing.

"I'm guessing you didn't exactly rent this car?" Bella asked, her voice tight with nerves.

Alice's foot pressed harder on the gas, eyes fixed on the road ahead. "I figured you wouldn't be opposed to grand theft auto."Β

"Not today," Bella muttered, her mind elsewhere. Alice gave a sharp nod but suddenly went stiff, her eyes clouding over for a brief moment as she had one of her visions. "What? What do you see?" Bella asked, immediately on edge. "They refused him," Alice said, her tone filled with disbelief. Bella's brow furrowed. "So?" Alice's voice tightened as the vision became clear. "He's going to make a scene. Show himself to the humans."

Bella's eyes widened in horror. "No! When?"

Alice's hands tightened on the wheel. "He's going to wait until noon, when the sun's at its highest."

With that, Alice slammed the pedal to the floor, sending them hurtling through the narrow streets even faster. Bella leaned forward in her seat, her voice frantic. "God, Alice, you have to hurry up!"

"We're close," Alice replied, glancing out the window before nodding toward the skyline. "There's Volterra." Rain, sitting in the back, was still fuming but focused now. The thought of Edward causing a spectacle didn't make her feel any more charitable, but this was her problem now. They tore through the streets, dodging pedestrians and vendors, Alice honking furiously as a sea of people in bright red cloaks filled the road. Bella stared out the window, confused. "Why are they all in red?"

"San Marco's Day festival," Rain muttered, looking at the crowd. "They're commemorating the expulsion of vampires from the city." Alice added, her sunglasses shielding her eyes from the glaring sun, "It's the perfect setting. The Volturi will never let him get far enough to reveal himself." Bella groaned, holding her head in her hands. "We have five minutes!"

"I know, Bella, just breathe," Alice said, trying to stay calm as she weaved through the crowd.

But the car came to an abrupt halt as policemen blocked their path. Alice cursed under her breath and cut the engine. Without hesitation, the two sisters flung the doors open and bolted. Rain, however, didn't wait for explanations or apologies. She tore off at a sprint, running at full speed through the narrow streets and dodging startled festival-goers. "Rain!" Bella called after her, but Rain didn't slow down. She was done. Done with the drama, done with the chaos, and done with Edward's suicidal theatrics.

Rain powered through the crowd, bumping into people left and right, but never stopping. She turned corner after corner, weaving through the maze-like streets, her breath steady and her determination fierce. Bella was lagging behind, trying to keep up, but Rain had one goal in mind: tackle the idiot before he could ruin everything. The sound of the clock tower ringing filled the air, signaling noon. Rain's heart skipped a beat. She burst through the last crowd of people and arrived at the square.

There, standing in the fountain, shirtless and glittering in the sunlight like some absurd diamond statue, was Edward.

Without a second thought, Rain launched herself at him, tackling him like a seasoned rugby player. She slammed into him with enough force to knock the wind out of him, sending them both tumbling back into the shadowed side of the square, just as Bella skidded to a stop, breathless and wide-eyed. Edward, dazed and confused, stared up at Rain. She glared down at him, panting, her frustration bubbling over.

"Next time," Rain spoke, "how about you don't make me save your sparkly ass from public humiliation?"Β

With that, Bella dashed over to Edward, her face illuminated with a mix of love and relief. Edward looked up at her, his eyes wide with a blend of awe and disbelief as he took in the sight of her standing before him. He opened his arms, and they embraced tightly, their bodies pressed together as if trying to make up for all the lost time.

"You're here," Edward said, his voice barely a whisper as he held Bella close.

Bella's eyes welled up with tears, her heart aching with the weight of her words. "I'm alive," she replied softly, her voice trembling. "I needed to make you see me once. You had to know that I was alive, that you didn't have to feel guilty about anything. I can let you go now." Edward shook his head gently, his gaze unwavering. "I never acted out of guilt. I just couldn't live in a world where you don't exist."

Rain stood up, feeling the exhaustion that had been building up over the past few days catch up with her. She leaned against the wall, her weariness palpable. Her eyes followed the tender moment between Bella and Edward, seeing them kiss as if to seal their reunion. With a sigh, Rain took a step back, feeling a pang of frustration mixed with relief.

"Sorry to break the moment," Rain said, her voice carrying a note of impatience, "but we got the sparkle vampire, and I would really like to go home now."

Just then, the sound of a door creaking open drew their attention. Two vampires emerged, one tall and one shorter, the latter holding a red coat. Edward immediately placed himself in front of Bella, a protective stance that made Rain's irritation grow.

"I won't be needing your services after all, gentlemen," Edward said firmly.

The tall vampire, with a smooth, commanding voice, responded, "Aro wants to speak with you again."

"No rules were broken," Edward countered, his tone resolute.

The shorter vampire, with dirt-blonde hair and a menacing edge, chimed in, "Nonetheless, we should take this conversation to a more appropriate venue." Edward looked at the two intruders with a steely resolve. "Fine. Bella, why don't you and your sister go and enjoy the rest of the festival?"

But before Bella could react, the tall vampire interjected, "The girl comes with us, and Aro would be surprised to see this one." He gestured toward Rain, who responded with a quiet, animalistic hissβ€”a warning not to push her further. Edward stepped in front of Bella and Rain, his expression darkening. "No. You can go to hell." At that moment, the door swung open again, revealing Alice, her expression one of exasperation and calm determination. "Come on, guys. It's a festival. You wouldn't want to make a scene." Alice positioned herself next to Rain, who was still fuming but appreciative of the backup. The tall vampire's smile widened, but he seemed undeterred. "We wouldn't."

A female vampire, her blonde hair flowing like liquid gold, emerged from the shadows. "Enough," she said sharply, her voice slicing through the tension. Both Alice and Edward averted their gaze respectfully.

"Jane," Edward muttered under his breath, a hint of frustration in his tone.

Jane's piercing eyes swept over them, her gaze calculating. "Aro sent me to see what was taking so long." Without another word, she turned and walked away, her presence commanding immediate obedience. "Just do what she says," Alice muttered to Bella as they followed Jane, her voice carrying a resigned note. Rain trailed behind, her mind racing with frustration and fatigue, ready to endure whatever came next.

After some time walking through the long, cold hallways, the group found themselves standing in front of an elevator. The ride was filled with an awkward silence, only the faint hum of the lift breaking the stillness. When the doors finally opened, they entered a grand lobby room. A woman stood behind her desk and greeted them with a smile, her overly polite demeanor clashing with the tension in the air. Jane remained silent, walking ahead and pushing open two large doors, revealing a grand chamber where three vampires sat on thrones.

Rain's gaze flickered across the room, taking in every detail, but her focus remained locked on the three vampires seated in front of them. Her eyes narrowed, calculating, while the others seemed cautious but composed. The air was thick with authority and danger.

A vampire suddenly approached, his voice slick with condescension as he addressed Jane. "Sister. They send you out to get one, and you bring back two... and a half. Also, a rare one." His eyes lingered on Rain, but she didn't acknowledge him, her expression ice-cold, her posture rigid and dangerous.

"Such a clever girl," the vampire added with a smirk, though Rain's piercing glare was enough to wipe it off his face. She wasn't here for games, and her silence was unsettling.

Jane moved beside her brother as Aro stood up from his throne, his face lighting up with an unsettling, too-wide smile. "What a happy surprise! Bella is alive after all. Isn't that wonderful? I love happy endings," he crooned, moving gracefully toward them. His hands were delicate but predatory, like a spider nearing its web. As he reached Edward, he took his hand and held it close. "They are so rare," Aro added, his smile widening further.

He turned his gaze to Bella, his voice becoming more curious. "Her blood appeals to you so much, it makes me thirsty. How can you stand to be so close to her?" Aro asked, his tone deceptively gentle, though the underlying hunger in his eyes betrayed him.

Edward's jaw tightened. "It's not without difficulty," he said, his voice barely containing his contempt.

Aro chuckled, clearly enjoying the tension. "Yes, I can see that," he mused, letting the words hang in the air before Edward turned to Bella, explaining in a low voice.

"Aro can read every thought I've ever had with one touch," he explained, his frustration mounting. Then, turning back to Aro, he snapped, "And now you know everything. So get on with it."

Aro's expression softened into a curious smile. "You are quite the soul reader yourself, Edward. Though you can't read Bella's thoughts. Fascinating." He released Edward's hand and shifted his gaze toward Bella, stepping closer. Reaching out his hand, he asked, "I would love to see if you are an exception to my gifts as well. Would you do me the honour?"

Bella hesitated, her heart pounding in her chest, but after a brief pause, she placed her hand in his. Aro's eyes narrowed as he attempted to read her thoughts. His smile faltered slightly when he found nothing. "Interesting," he muttered, releasing her hand. "I see nothing."

As he walked back toward his throne, Aro suddenly stopped. His lips curled into a mischievous grin. "I wonder if..." He turned to Jane, his voice brimming with excitement. "Let us see if she's immune to all our powers."

Jane's wicked smile returned as she turned to face Bella. Aro gave a subtle nod and said, "Shall we, Jane?"

Without hesitation, Jane focused her gaze on Bella, but Edward immediately stepped in front of her. "No!" he shouted.

Jane's smile widened, her eyes glinting with malice. "Pain," she whispered.

At that moment, Edward's face contorted in agony, his body writhing under the invisible assault. His knees buckled, and his gasps filled the chamber, but before the torture could continue, a voice cut through the room, cold and commanding.

"Enough. Let him go."

All eyes turned toward Rain. Her expression was no longer one of exhaustionβ€”it was one of terrifying calm. She had moved with lightning speed, and now had her arm locked tightly around the neck of Jane's brother. Her fingers dug into his throat, ready to rip his head from his body.

"Let him go," Rain repeated, her voice low and dripping with venom. "Or I swear I will rip his head off and use it as a vase." Her eyes burned with a deadly promise, and the room seemed to freeze in place. Aro's smile faltered for the first time, a flicker of uncertainty crossing his face. Even Jane's confidence wavered, her eyes narrowing at Rain in a silent but sharp warning. Rain's grip tightened on the vampire's throat, her strength undeniable, her rage barely contained.Β
