17 - Shots

"Minho, move your ass!" I whisper-screamed in the trunk of the car, which appeared to be Bertha. Then I giggled because I thought about a memory I got in the Glade.

"What are you laughing about?" Minho sighed. "My ass is nothing to laugh about!"

"The hell," Frypan muttered from my other side.

"I was thinking about a memory I got in the Glade." I laughed. "Before we got put in the maze, you and I were sneaking around this building and crawling in a tunnel." I paused. "And I got angry at you because you let us get caught."

"How?" Minho crossed his arms sternly.

Oh, god. I tried not to stare but didn't succeed. Can't blame me for missing those biceps! I missed the veins that jumped out when he tensed them, and the way his arms just turned bigger.. yeah.

He let out a cough. "I asked you something, Shebean."

"Yeah, right." I blinked a few times. "You said something like 'I can't control my gas!' So I think you farted."

"I did not do that," Minho replied in full confidence.

"Oh, yes you did." I gave Minho a smile that annoyed him before turning my head to look at the view. The trunk was on the outside of the car, so when Jorge started driving, the wind blew in our faces, leaving a nice feeling. I had never been in a car before, and it was quite exciting for me.

"This is amazing." I stared at the Scorch, which also looked nice, though walking in there for days wasn't. Way too hot, which I considered either was because of the Sun Flares, or because I was walking with a group of good-looking people. "And special."

"Why the hell is this special?" Minho sighed.

"Have you been in a car before?" I raised my eyebrows.

He shook his head. "No."

"Well, then. It's your first time in a car. That's kinda cool, right?"

"Nope." Minho shrugged. "I've been in a helicopter."

I rolled my eyes. "How tough you are."

Soon the car came to a stop, so I looked past it. Multiple other cars blocked our way to an old-looking tunnel.
"Well, I guess we're on foot." Jorge climbed out of his seat.

Frypan opened the trunk and got out, Minho following. Then he turned around and got ready to help me, or whatever he was trying to do by grabbing my waist, but of course, I flinched and took a step back.

Mentally punishing myself, I swallowed. "I can do it," I assured before getting out myself. Minho stood there awkwardly, eyes blank once again.

"What is this?" I later breathed and looked at the broken window of one car.

"A broken glass." Minho coldly replied.

Yeah, I shucked up by not letting him help me, and now I felt guilty. I should've let him help me, it was just Minho! Why couldn't I just touch people normally? Why did it affect me that much?

I walked closer toward the tunnel, inspecting each rusty car next to me. Bullets were printed into some glass and the side of cars. I wanted to keep looking, but suddenly, another bullet hit the glass.

I let out a yelp, freezing for a second. More gunshots went off, hitting things around me. Soon I got to the realization that if I kept standing there I would get shot, so bent down behind a car, next to Newt and Rye, Minho sitting on the other side of Newt.

"Holy-." My eyes widened when I heard more shots as my heart beat at a rapid speed, shocked by the sudden attack.

A hand went on my leg, which I didn't even know was shaking until. Rye gave me a worried look, I just nodded to let him know I was fine.

"Hey, is everyone okay out there?" Thomas shouted from behind another car after the shots stopped for a moment, I hoped.

"We're fine," Frypan responded.

Newt's chest moved up and down from the fast adrenaline. "Anyone know where those bloody shots came from?"

"Guns," Minho said.

"What?" We all turned to the boy, who looked triumphant.

"Most of the time shots come from guns." He explained with twinkling eyes. "You know?"

"Actually, I didn't." Rye sarcastically mumbled. Minho's eyes turned hard toward Rye in just a second, giving him a cold stare.

"Everybody!" Jorge yelled. "Get set to sprint back to the truck! And hold your ears!" He added.

I frowned and thought about it. Would there be a bomb? Yet I didn't have much time to think about one of the many questions I had, because Jorge started counting.

"Ready? One..." He paused. "Two..."

"Drop it."

Crap.

"Now!"
The voice was stern and feminine.. and deep inside, I hoped it was a nice girl I would have a lot of contact with. No offense to Teresa, but she wasn't really someone I could openly talk to, and so wasn't Brenda, though I guessed it was just a case of waiting for Brenda and me to talk more.

"I said drop it!"
If the girl was one of the 'good guys', then I decided to like her. She could command Thomas, who never listened to anyone, and Jorge, who had the same problem as Thomas but just a little more mature.

"On your feet. Let's go."

A body appeared in front of us.
"Let's go! Move!"
Another girl. I couldn't see her face by the bandana covering half of it, but did see she was blonde, like Newt. Oh, and she had a gun.

"I think she's threatening us," Minho whispered in a way I knew wasn't serious.

"Woah, how would you know?" I fake gasped.

"Well, you can see her mood by her hands, you know? Like right now, she has a gun."

"You two, come over here!" The girl raised her voice after everyone except for Minho and I took steps toward her.

"Since when do I let myself get controlled by a girl?" Minho mumbled.

"Since I arrived in the Glade," I answered proudly.

The other girl, who also wore a bandana moved in front of us too. I could see she was dark-skinned and had braids in her hair, but that was it.

Slowly her eyebrows furrowed, focusing on Aris. Then she pulled off her bandana, revealing her breath-taking face. She was beautiful!

"Aris?" She stammered.

Aris' eyes widened a bit. "Oh, my God. Harriet?"

"My God." She rushed over to Aris and hugged him tightly, while I was confused and still admiring the pretty girl.

Newt leaned in. "Jealous much?" He whispered, smirking sly, but small.

"Ah, talk about yourself first." I denied it badly, though I was proud of my comment. Newt was very jealous of Minho, and I knew that.

"What the hell are you doing here?" The blonde also pulled her bandana off, and another beautiful face appeared. A familiar one.

"Sonya." Aris breathed and hugged her too.

"Aris, you're lucky we didn't shoot your dumb ass." One of them, Harriet apparently, commented.

We all, or mostly just the boys, stared at the trio like crazy, wondering how it would be possible. Well, they must've known each other and I was happy enough that they didn't shoot us, so it didn't bother me that much.

"What's happening?" Newt finally questioned, hands still up in the air like everyone else, though at some point mine started to ache so I put them back down.

"We were in the maze together," Aris replied, a small smile planted on his lips.

Harriet whistled with her fingers. "We're clear, guys! Come on out!"

A head appeared from up the mountains, so I assumed that is where they shot from.
"Copy that! We're clear!" A man screamed.

Sonya cupped Aris' face. "You're alive."

Harriet walked over to a man who got closer to us, holding a big gun. "We're taking them to base." She decided.

"Wait, so, how did you guys get here?" Aris frowned but also looked cheerful.

"The Right Arm got us out." Harriet turned her head.

My hands got a bit sweaty in nervousness, but also excitement. Did we finally find the Right Arm?

"The Right Arm?"

"Do you know where they are?"

Harriet chuckled and walked over to a big car.
"Hop in."
