07‣ Welcome To The Family

I walked up the steps leading to my front door. I was so tired and absentminded that I forgot I had to take my keys out of my bag. Just as I reached for it I heard the door unlocking from the inside and it opened to reveal my mother on the other side. She immediately pulled me inside and locked the door again.

"Why are you so late, honey?" She asked, rushing to put the keys back on the key rack. "I told you to be on time today."

I shook my head lightly since I could already feel myself falling asleep, even though I was standing. "I'm sorry, it must have slipped my mind. I stayed at school for a bit to get more work done." That was a lie. I wasn't at school today. I was out with Yoongi and Jin trying to find out more about Whalien 52. But instead we found nothing. The address we went to; it was empty. The only things we found were cobwebs and dirt everywhere. Shredded papers and broken furniture were scattered around the rooms. Since this place was underneath a whole mall, it was huge and there were endless rooms. We looked in every inch of every room for anything relevant but there was nothing. But there were many creepy things down there...

"You forgot?" My mom asked, bringing me back to reality. "I reminded you almost everyday. Come quickly, I need your help in the kitchen," she said, dragging me with her.

Today she was going to let me meet her boyfriend and his son. It was the first boyfriend she ever had after my father passed on and second person she's ever loved in her life like this. For the first time she was moving on from my dad. I guess I was happy for her. Just like me, she wasn't good with socializing so my father was her best and only friend, as well as her lover. When he died, all she had was me and I guess that's what made us so close. And for her to meet someone new, I was proud of her and I couldn't wait to meet this person.

She instructed me on what she needed me to do and basically it was just cleaning and baking the cakes while she did the food. She really was going all out.

While busy in the kitchen we talked about what we thought I should call her boyfriend when I meet him. First names, I thought, were a bit too informal and maybe disrespectful. But then again, calling him by his last name seemed a bit too formal. Although, in the end, we stuck with his last name. Mr Kwon.

After about three hours, we finished all the food and cleaning and we went to get dressed.

I put on a black oversized hoodie with a pair of maroon ripped jeans and black timberland boots. Plain but oh well. It wasn't my date.

Once I was done, I sat on my mom's bed, waiting until my mom was done getting dressed in her bathroom so that I could tell her whether she looked good or not but honestly I thought she looked great in everything but she wouldn't believe me.

Finally she came out, wearing a frown on her face. "I think this one makes me like even fatter," she said.

I gasped. "No, you don't!" I said. "This one looks amazing on you! Please wear this one."

It was a maroon draped blouse with silky frills lightly brushing off the sides of her shoulders, with a pair of black jeans and beautiful high laced maroon high heels. She looked beautiful.

She gave me a questioning look. "Are you sure?" She turned to look in the mirror.

"It's perfect. Look! We even match!" I said, gesturing to my jeans with a surprised look, trying to cheer her up.

She gave me a wide smile through the mirror. "Okay, I'll wear this one then," she said.

She then opened the mirror cabinet and took out her makeup. She started with the eyeliner, applying them gently.

I made a face at her, through the mirror. "I don't know how you can put those things on," I said. "It makes my eyes sting."

She laughed lightly. "You're still a baby, Y/n," she joked. "You'll get used to it one day. But when you do, don't rely on it all the time." She then turned around, looking at me lovingly. "You're absolutely beautiful as you are, Y/n. Makeup or no makeup. You're beautiful," she said, flashing me her sweetest smile. I smiled back at her.

She turned around once again and went on to apply eye shadow onto her eye lids.

"Hey, so, you haven't really told me much about this guys son," I said. "What is he, like five? You guys probably only brought him with so that I could babysit, huh?" I joked.

She burst out laughing. "Y/n-"

She was interrupted by the sound of our doorbell ringing. My mom gasped.

"They're here!" She exclaimed.

"It's okay, you can finish up. I'll get the door," I said. She gave me a warm smile just before I left her room.

Walking into the living room, out of instinct I quickly glanced through the window, pulling back the curtain slightly to see if their car was parked out front. I froze. The car looked strangely familiar yet for some reason I still could not recall where I'd seen it before. My brain stopped working and my heart beat fast. Adrenaline rushing through my veins.

The doorbell rang once again and the thought had left my mind as quickly as it had come. I dropped the curtain piece and proceeded to the door like nothing had happened.

I unlocked the door and opened it, revealing a tall and slender man with black hair slicked back. He wore a black suit and looked devilishly handsome in it. I had to give it to my mom. She did a good job of finding a good looking guy. He was gorgeous. Generally speaking, of course. I'd never have a crush on my mom's boyfriend. I'm just saying... He looks good. But he also looked... strangely familiar. But not in a good way because I could feel a growing pit in my stomach and my chest was tight. But I just shrugged it off. Maybe that pit in my stomach is just my hunger. After all I haven't eaten since breakfast.

"Um..." The man started, standing awkwardly in the doorway and brought me back to reality once again.

Realization hit me that I've been standing there staring at him for almost a minute and blocking the doorway.

"Oh! Sorry," I said, cheeks turning a light pink. I backed up and gestured for him to come in, eyes looking to the ground and my shyness coming back.

He walked in and while looking down, I saw another pair of shoes walking in. Oh, right! The son. But... His feet seemed a little big for a small kid. I looked up, in search for the owner of these brown timberlands which almost completely resembled mine.

Instead of a five year old boy, my eyes were met with a seemingly tall boy and black hair resembling his father's, except his was parted in front, revealing his forehead and was long enough to reach his eyebrows and maybe even longer. His eyes reminded me something of a bunny and when our eyes met he flashed me a bunny tooth smile, his cheeks rising in the process, and I knew for sure he reminded me of a bunny. He was handsome and charming and no doubt he got that from his father and at the same time seemed so childish. I gave a small shy smile back.

"Woah!!" The boy exclaimed, startling me and his father while pointing to my shoes. "You like timberland boots!" He looked back up at me with hopeful and glowing eyes. "We're going to be good friends. I know it," he said, still smiling.

I laughed nervously. "I hope so," I said quietly and then looked back to the boy's father. "H-hi," I started off. Ugh, I'm already stuttering. "I'm Y/n, Y/m/n's (your mom's name's) daughter. It's a pleasure to meet you," I said, bowing slightly. "My mom will be here in a bit. She's just getting ready," I laughed nervously.

"Ah," he said. "I'm-"

"Ji-yong-ah," I heard my mom call out and turning around, I saw my mom walking down the the staircase and it looked like something out of a movie when the beautiful girl, looking ever so beautiful catches the eye of every other person in the room.

((A/N: Yes. Yes, I did just make GD Jungkook's father and your mother's boyfriend. Deal with it. XD))

I noticed that she had finished her makeup and she wore red lipstick that complimented her outfit ever so beautifully. She was so pretty.

She walked to her boyfriend with a huge smile on her face and his thin lips formed a smile making it was obvious he was happy to see her.

She then looked to me. "Y/n, this is Mr Kwon," she said, gesturing to him and he smiled to you.

"Pleased to meet you, Y/n," he said. "This is my son, Jungkook," he gestured to his son and it was now his turn to speak.

"Hi," he said, laughing nervously. "I hope we get to know each other better and be good friends."

I smiled back at him, my smile saying it all.

"I bet we're all starving," my mom said. "Make yourselves comfortable here in the living room. Me and my daughter will just set the table in the dining room."

We headed into the kitchen while they sat in the living room.

"Mom," I started. "That boy looks nothing like all the childish stuff you told me about him. He looks like my age."

She laughed. "Some kids could be in their late teens and still do stupid childish stuff, dear," she said. "You'll love him though," she winked at me.

I just laughed back and proceeded to finish setting the table.

The diner went well. We just ate and tried to get to know each other better. I could tell my mom was enjoying it. I was just super nervous though. I don't even know why. New people just make me nervous I guess.

Once we were done eating, my mother and Mr Kwon went to the living room and decided to continue their conversation there. All I was thinking was, "Nooo! Don't leave. Don't you dare leave me alone with this stranger I'm scared."

She couldn't hear my thoughts unfortunately. To be honest, I was just scared that this sweet boy, Jungkook, would end up like Jin. So nice when others are around, but when we're alone, he's completely different.

"Hey," Jungkook said, interrupting my thoughts. "Y/n, was it?"

I nodded.

"I like that," he said, smiling the cutest smile I've ever seen. "I like your name."

I gave out a small laugh. "Thank you," I said. "Yours is pretty cool too." Inside I was killing myself. Don't I have anything better to say than that? "It reminds me of cookies," I blurted out and all it gained was a confused look from Jungkook. "In a good way of course! I love cookies," I said, trying to make it better but his face never changed and my voice gradually grew softer with every word. "It makes me want to call you Kookie," I said, trying to sound enthusiastic but failed and just ended off with an embarrassed smile, my cheeks getting hotter by the second.

Was I trying too hard?

He burst out laughing and I quickly looked back up at him again. "You're cute," he smiled. "And my nickname actually is Kookie. You can call me that if you like," he said, flashing his cute bunny smile at me again.

He's so cheerful and nothing like Jin. I was so relieved. "Awesome," I said and then remembered something. "Hey, while my mom's not here, do you want to steal some cookies with me?" I asked and he looked at me hesitantly. "I made them so I think it should be fine," I smiled reassuringly. He nodded and followed me into the kitchen.

"Woah~~ So much cake!" He exclaimed, happily. "You guys made all this for us?" He asked.

"Yup," I said. I grabbed a cookie from one of the platters and held it out to Kookie. "A cookie for Kookie?" I said, unsure whether it was even funny or not but Kookie laughed anyway and took the cookie from my hand. I took a cookie for myself as well and ate it.

I felt my stomach churn of all the nervousness I was feeling of tonight which made me want to put down my cookie. But I ate on anyway since it made me feel less awkward. Why was it so scary talking to people? When will I grow up. But so far I was doing a great job of befriending Jungkook.

"I think we have a lot in common," he said. "You like timberlands just like me, you seem to like dark clothes, you like cookies. Not to mention, I have that same hoodie in my closet at home," he said, pointing to the hoodie I was wearing. I'm not surprised to be honest. Sometimes I would buy my clothes from the guy's section in malls since most of the girls clothes were a but too girly and not my style.

"Awesome!" I said.

"We'd make great siblings then, wouldn't we?" He said and caught me off guard. I stared at him blankly.

"What?"

"Well, I mean, if our parents marry, we'll be siblings," he explained and I mentally facepalmed myself. How did I forget that?

"Do you think they really will marry?" I asked.

He shrugged. "I don't know. But I've always wanted a sibling and it would be cool if it was you," he smiled and I smiled back.

"Hey, what happened with your mom, by the way?" I asked.

His eyes turned sad. "I don't know," he said, laughing nervously. "She left when I was round about five years old," he said. "What about you?" He asked, obviously trying to change the subject.

"My father died a few years back," I said.

"Oh.. I'm sorry you had to go through that," he said.

I smiled. "It's okay. I'm fine now I guess," I said. "I'm sorry your mom left you at such a young age. That must've been horrible for you," I said, trying to console him too.

"It's fine. I barely even remember her," he said, emotionlessly. "She didn't care enough about me to stay," he said. "Or take me with..." His voice faded and his last words so soft I barely even heard it but the sadness in his eyes said it all.

There was way more to this boy than the bunny smile he was hiding behind.
