iii. ᴛʜᴇ ʀᴇᴀᴜɴɪᴏɴ
📍BUDAPEST
________________________
(Y/N) COULDN'T BELIEVE herself at this moment. After the mysterious note that was left with the red capsules inside the small suitcase, she only had one thought in mind. She needed to find her. She wanted to know why she had sent that suitcase.
(Y/N) unloaded the train that arrived in the city of Budapest, since she suspected it would be the place where she would be hiding. (Y/N) walked slowly among all the other people who were in the train station, looking around herself in precaution.
(Y/N) walked through the streets of Budapest with a feeling of uncertainty, being back here brought her memories, flashbacks of events she wanted to forget.
(Y/N) continued walking when her eyes spotted a familiar tall apartment building, it still looked in good conditions, but some of the paint was already washing off and the metal doors seemed rusty. This immediately caught her attention and walked inside.
Still having an anxious feeling about the place, (Y/N) decided to take the stairs instead of the elevator, which drained half of the energy inside her body, but she had thousands of bad experiences inside elevators to regret her decision.
(Y/N) slowly stepped out from the stairs when a voice called, "I know you're out there."
The voice made (Y/N)'a blood run cold.
When she was about to respond, a familiar voice called back, "I know you know I'm out here."
"Shit." (Y/N) muttered, since she recognized the voice immediately. She couldn't believe she was here.
The sound of a door shutting close echoed through the silent building, and (Y/N) walked towards the sound came from. (Y/N) would be lying if she wasn't nervous or afraid to see them again.
The thousands of thoughts that ran through her head where shut down when she heard yells, grunts, shrieking, and the shattering of glass.
(Y/N) didn't think twice of running inside the apartment and saw no other than Natasha and Yelena fighting in the room.
Yelena was running at Natasha with a knife in hand, and (Y/N) stepped in front of her, and tried to grab something for protection, which was
a tool that laid on a table.
Yelena realized she wasn't fighting Natasha anymore and recognized (Y/N) in front of her, raising the knife in the air.
"(Y/N)?" Natasha questioned.
"You're late," Yelena growled.
"Shut up." (Y/N) panted.
Yelena tried to stab her once again, but (Y/N) moved back just in time, using her arm to block Yelena's arm from raising the knife again. Yelena didn't give up at that moment, since she backed away slightly to move her arm to make an attempt to slash (Y/N) in the stomach.
(Y/N) jumped back in instinct, but Yelena succeeded in grabbing her arm and flipping her onto her back in the floor, and Natasha took the opportunity to knock Yelena to the ground by kicking her in the back.
Yelena turned her attention back to Natasha and tried to slash her stomach but (Y/N) sneaked behind her back and pulled on her hair harshly and turning her around to face her, wanting to pull Natasha out of danger.
Yelena yelled and pushed (Y/N) against the wall harshly and used her hands to strangle her, making (Y/N) groan in pain and gasp for air when Natasha used this as the chance to pull out the curtain and covering Yelena's face with it, wrapping the fabric around her neck to remove her out of (Y/N).
(Y/N) gasped and coughed as she felt the air coming back to her lungs when she saw how Yelena was trying to wrap the curtain around Natasha's neck too. (Y/N) ran back into the fight and tugged on the fabric to remove it from Natasha's neck when Yelena wrapped a piece of the curtain around her neck too.
Yelena didn't give up and knocked both (Y/N) and Natasha to the ground and pulled on the curtain around their necks to suffocate them, her face turning red when (Y/N) was pulling onto the fabric around her neck too.
Natasha, realizing that they were running out of air, raised her hands in the air in surrender.
"Truce." she gasped.
At this, (Y/N) let go of the fabric along with Yelena, and the three of them gasped for air in the ground. (Y/N) turned around to face Yelena, who was caressing her hands in her neck while gasping.
"You've grown up." (Y/N) told her.
"No shit." Yelena said, standing up from the ground, but (Y/N) swore she could see a glimpse of emotion in her eyes.
(Y/N) sighed and stood up too, helping Natasha to her feet as they walked to the kitchen, where Yelena was fixing herself a drink.
"You had to come to Budapest, didn't you?" Natasha questioned.
"I came here because I thought you two wouldn't." Yelena replied. "But since you're here, what bullet does that?"
She pointed to the wall behind them, which was covered in small holes.
"They're not bullets. Those are arrows." (Y/N) said.
"Ah, right." Yelena said as she took the glass of vodka to her lips.
"If you didn't think I'd come here, why'd you send me this?" Natasha asked and she pulled the exact same stash of red capsules to the table.
"She send you that too?" (Y/N) questioned, taking her stash out of her pocket.
"You brought it back here?" Yelena exclaimed, walking away from the kitchen, (Y/N) and Natasha following behind.
"I'm not here to be your friend, but you need to tell me what that is." Natasha said.
"It's a synthetic gas." Yelena began, walking into a room and grabbing a backpack. "The counteragent to chemical subjugation. The gas immunizes the brain's neuropathways from external manipulation."
"Can you translate that to English?" (Y/N) asked.
"It's an antidote to mind control." Yelena said.
"Real mature." Natasha replied.
"Why don't you two take it to one of your super-scientist friends?" Yelena asked, stashing things into her bag. "They can explain it to you. Tony Stark, maybe?"
Natasha and (Y/N) locked eyes.
"Oh, yeah. We're not really talking right now, so. . ."
"Great. Perfect timing. Where's an Avenger when you need one?" Yelena said.
"I'm not supposed to be here." (Y/N) responded. "Both of us can't. We are on the run."
"Well, what was I supposed to do? You're the only superheroes I know." Yelena excused. "That was the whole reason I sent it to you two."
"I kept checking the news," she continued. "Expecting to see Captain America bringing down the Red Room."
Without another word, Yelena walked out of the room while (Y/N) and Natasha changed clothes, but what Yelena had said made them freeze.
"What?" Natasha asked. "Taking down the Red Room? What are you talking about? It's been gone for years."
"Dreykov's dead. I killed him."
(Y/N) and Natasha followed Yelena to another room as she continued to stuff equipment, guns and other supplies in her backpack.
"You don't actually believe that, do you?" Yelena said.
When both of the girls stayed quiet, she walked in front of them. "You really do believe that."
"Dreykov's dead. It took almost destroying the entire city just to get to him." (Y/N) explained.
"If you're so sure, then tell me what happened?" Yelena said. "Tell me exactly."
"The three of us rigged bombs." Natasha continued.
"Who's the third one?" Yelena asked.
"Clint Barton." (Y/N) cut in. "Killing Dreykov was the final step in our defection to S.H.I.E.L.D."
Yelena shrugged her shoulders. "Simple as that?"
"Yeah, sure. 'Simple'." Natasha said and walked away, the two women following behind. "That's what I'd call imploding a five-story building and then shooting it out with the Hungarian Special Forces."
"It took 10 days in hiding before we could even get out of Budapest." (Y/N) said.
"And you checked the body? Confirmed the kill?"
"There was no body left to check." Natasha said.
"You're forgetting Dreykov's daughter." Yelena said, making Natasha and (Y/N) freeze.
Before Yelena could continue with her sentence, rumbling and footsteps where heard from the floor above, and an explosion bursted a hole in the roof.
