Kit woke up screaming.
She breathed heavy as she held her heart. The same recurring dream dance in her mind, over and over again. Staying in this house wasn't good for her, there was no way it could have been. Not when just two month ago she was at gun point just down the hallway.
It was four, four in the morning. Kit slept a bit longer then she usually did, but not nearly enough. She could stay awake until it was bright enough outside when everyone would wake it. She could go for a walk, she could swim in her pool. There was plenty things Kit could do to keep herself awake, yet she found herself driving to the dojo instead.
No one was there, yet Johnny was dumb enough to keep it unlocked. Kit was angry, angry for not being able to sleep. Angry at the piece of shits who broke into her house, took all her money, and nearly killed her and her parents. She was anger at her father for being a pussy and running, anger at her mother for trying to act as if nothing happened. But most of all, Kit was anger at herself because she knew she couldn't do anything.
Hard punches and kicks were thrown into the punching bag harshly. Kit couldn't even remember when she started doing it, just knowing she couldn't bring herself to stop. She hadn't known who she was picturing more, she didn't know anything. The bell to the dojo ringing behind her hadn't made Kit turn, she was so lost in thought she didn't hear a single thing until a voice rung.
"You're here early." it was Sensei Lawrence, standing in the doorway with a bag. Kit whipped the beads of sweat off her forehead as she breathed heavy, "Jesus, you always sweat that bad?"
Kit shook her head quickly.
"What are you anger at?" the blonde man asked, dropping his bag on the floor and walking over to her, "Who, I think is better."
"A lot of people." Kit said honestly as her sensei got behind the punching bag, yanking on the chain slightly as he held it still, "What are you doing?"
"Go on, hit it." he encouraged her. Kit only stared at him, "Cmon, don't be a pussy."
Kit swung her fist into the punching bag harshly as a huff let her lips.
"Yell out what you're angry about, it'll help." Johnny nodded before seeing her hesitant look, "Cmon, I won't say anything."
Kit stepped back with a heavy breath before she kicked the bag harshly, "My dads a pussy and runs from problems he caused!"
"Yeah!" Johnny encouraged her just as loud.
"My moms a bitch who only cares about what everyone else thinks and puts me on disgusting liquid diets!" Kit hollered out as her knuckles popped when she threw her fist into it before doing it again, "I was robbed!"
"Keep going!" Johnny hollered at her.
"I had a gun to my head and I couldn't do anything!" Kit yelled as loud as she could, her fist and legs hitting the punching bag over and over. She was crying, she didn't know it though, "We have no money and i'm terrified to sleep in my own bed!"
"Hit him!" Johnny yelled at her.
Kit let out a loud yell as she gave a harsh side kick, "I couldn't protect myself!"
Johnny stumbled as the punching bag came back and pushed against him. Kit breathed heavy as she leaned on her knees, heart racing and chest burning. Johnny stepped closer as his hand set on her elbow. Kit looked up at him as her sensei gave a proud expression for the first time, "You can now."
"How?" Kit asked in disbelief.
Johnny smirked as he stared as her a moment, "Because you're Cobra Kai."
"You coming to eighties night?" Tory asked as she joined Kits side when Miguel hurried off to talk to Hawk, "I'm making Miguel pay but I think I can squeeze you a few free fries in."
Kit cracked a smile as she stretched her leg, "I would but i'm pretty busy today. You know, secret agent stuff."
"What secret agent stuff?" Tory asked in disbelief with a small laugh at Kit, reaching for her toes as Kit did the same. Tory took notice of the lack of communication with Kit, "Shit, is it a serious thing?"
"It's just a job interview at this store in the mall." Kit said back with a shrug, hoping Tory wouldn't push her for information. Kit should have know better then to hope for something like that.
"Why do you need a job? Aren't you like, rich as fuck?" Tory snorted as she stared at Kit. The dark girl only avoided her eye and stretched her arms behind her head.
"Just a summer job, my parents think I should be humbled." Kit lied, though it was clear Tory looked alarmed and was well aware she'd been being lied to.
As Sensei Lawrence walked from his office, each student fell in their stance, hands behind their back and standing up straight, "Today, we'll be learning one of the most important lessons a Cobra Kai could ever know."
"Where's Sensei Kreese?" Hawk spoke up from the front row.
"Yeah. Shouldn't we wait for the sensei emeritus before we get going?" Stingray asked as Kit held back a minor laugh, adjusting her feet to grip the floors better.
"Mr.Kreese will no longer we joining us." Sensei Lawrence information the students. Tory and Kit shared a look in the corner of their eye, one slightly disappointed while the other relived, "I made a promise when I became your sensei. To always look out for your best interests. Despite how hard this may be for all of us, he didn't have our best interest at heart."
Torys fingers grazed Kits hand at his words, thinking about how he made her hurt Kit infront of everyone. Kit glanced down at Torys paler hand that grazed hers, feeling her face redden but stayed looking forward.
"John Kreese may have founded Cobra Kai but he no longer represents what this dojo stands for. His Cobra Kai was old and outdated. He refused to move forward. What happens when we do that, Mr. Diaz?" Sensei asked as he glanced toward Miguel quickly.
"You get stuck like cement." Miguel said with an apologetic face.
"Exactly. To be a great fighter, you gotta learn to adapt. This creed on the wall...follow it to the letter, it'll make you strong. It'll make you formidable. It'll also make you an asshole." Johnny spoke as he looked away from the no mercy logo on the wall, staring at each of his students, "Cause thats just black paint on a white wall. But life's not black and white. More often then not, it's gray. And it's in those gray areas where Johnny Lawrence's Cobra Kai sometimes shows mercy."
There was a odd energy in the air as the students glanced around at each other.
"Doesn't mean you can't be badass. That's still a requirement. But you have to learn to think, not just with your gut, or your fist, but to really use," Johnny began as he beat on the side of his head slightly, "This. Which leads me to today's lesson..."
Kit laughed suddenly as Sensei broke a board across his head, "Headbutting. Grab a partner."
"As fun as it may be to get you back, I think i'm gonna work with someone else." Kit said sarcastically with a grin toward Tory, "Doesn't feel right hurting you."
Tory smiled as she touched Kits arm slightly, "Anyone in mind?"
Kit glanced over her shoulder toward Miguel, "Maybe one, you?"
Torys eyes fell to Hawk as she grinned and left Kits side.
Kit walked through the back door in the rolled rink later that night. Tory sent her a text say she could stop by if she wanted to after hours while she cleaned up. Kit realized how dead and boring it looked without the bright lights and just sitting in the darkness in the middle of the Valley.
"Tory." Kit called out as she walked in, only one light on. Torys head popped up from under a table, a grin spreading across her lips when she saw Kit, "What are you doing under there?"
"Cleaning cheese fries." Tory said as she stood up. Kit smiled at her eighties attire, thinking she looked cute, "How'd the job interview go?"
"Pretty good, they said I got the job but I can't work every day like I was hoping." Kit said as she placed her phone on the table, "How was eighties night?"
"Honestly, i'd rather not talk about it." Tory said honestly as Kit nodded understandingly. Tory grinned as she glanced around the rolled rink, "You ever been here?"
"Once, i'm a brutal skater though." Kit said honestly as Tory grinned widely and grabbed her hand quickly.
PLAY SCARY LOVE BY THE NEIGHBOURHOOD FOR THE FULL EFFECT!!
"I'm gonna fall!" Kit announced loudly as she struggled to keep her balance on the skates. Tory laughed and grabbed her hand. Kit nearly brought the two down before Torys hands held her waist tightly.
"You balance through here." Tory said as she ran her hands from Kits stomach to her back, "Try not to think about anything else."
Kit stared into her eyes as her heart raced, "What am I suppose to think about?"
Tory smiled as she held her hand quickly, "Just think about me."
Kit blinked quickly as Tory began skating again, pulling Kit behind her. The Clairmont girl grinned as she rolled on the skates, feeling Tory let her go. Kit laughed loudly as she skated on her own, going fast for a moment.
"You're doing it!" Tory announced as Kit spun around and smiled widely.
"Yeah!" Kit shouted as she pumped her fist into the air. Kit got too distracted by her excitement, falling over her owncfeet and hitting the ground. Tory laughed loudly as she skated over, her own feet tripping her as she fell onto the ground next to Kit.
The pair laughed at theirselves and each other in disbelief, laying on the dirty floor of the rolling rink.
