sanctus medicus
RUKKHA TARGARYEN, dubbed the "flameless dragon", entered the world when everyone expected the roar of a son - a peaceful child amidst the chaotic nature of the Red Keep. Curiously, she had not inherited the purple eyes and silver-golden hair of the typical Targaryen, instead sporting golden hair like ears of wheat at harvest time, and a warm shade of forest green for eyes. Perhaps the Mother, tired of the constant warmongering and bloodshed, sought the help of other gods from the stars, wishing to provide the world some normalcy in a world full of power plays and schemes.
Or was it one of those stellar gods fleeing from a relentless pursuit?
RUKKHA TARGARYEN was raised to be admired - not that she particularly desired it - mostly because she was a peculiar beauty amongst the ladies of the court. As much as Aemma wanted her to become more ladylike on Viserys's behalf, and Daemon had an uncomfortable desire for a warrior niece, Rukkha rejected both paths in pursuit of medicine. This however, left the court even more intrigued; what kind of dragon would hide away in a tower instead of showing their firelight for all of Westeros to see?
RUKKHA TARGARYEN was almost always bleeding in one arm or another, sometimes even her foot, if she was caught running around the rocky coasts of Blackwater Bay. The other nobles then dubbed her "the bloodied princess" - a nickname that at first, sounded like an insult but as the growing dragoness came to realize, was quite clever for its time. That aside, all that mending of her injuries put her in close proximity with the Maesters who were qualified in using the medical plants she loved so much. Rukkha was then known to spend almost an entire afternoon near the Maesters' tower, the palace greenhouse or the library, and even then, so few were able to find her.
Like prey fleeing at the sight of a hunter.
AS SHE GREW, Rukkha built a name for herself as a self-taught healer, always outside the palace walls and venturing into the poorer regions of the capital (the nobles can keep their Maesters), tending to the less fortunate. The smallfolk, whom she instead called her comrades, would often flock to her either for medicine or just to know her better.
But, it was the small children, in a stroke of ingenuity, who came up with the title that would stick with her for the rest of her life - "sanctus medicus", which meant "holy physician" in a long dead tongue. As much as the popular princess wanted so wholeheartedly to accept the title given to her by the people, she had to keep in mind a certain truth about herself; that she was not a goddess.
Because insolent mortals who thought themselves as divine, always paid for their hubris with their lives and bloodlines, especially when the relentless hunter is just across the sea.
