Just when I rushed outside, an explosion made me fall onto the ground. It was so loud it made my ears hurt. The fire after was very big and it made multiple tents burn to the ground. People started screaming and I quickly crawled off of the floor.

I have to find Newt and the others. I immediately thought. I wasn't going to leave them.

More bombs went off and with wide eyes, I looked around.

'Nora! Move!' Someone roughly grabbed my arm and pulled me away, just before a bomb went off right in the place I stood three seconds ago.

I gasped and looked next to me. Newt pulled me with him. Guards dropped out of a helicopter and landed on the ground.

'Newt!' I screamed. 'Wait! Sonya- she- wait, Newt! I need to tell you some-'

'Nora, we gotta move!' Newt interrupted me. 'We'll talk later!'

Guards started shooting people, who fell onto the ground. Panicked I ran after Newt.

Minho, Logan, and Frypan appeared next to us.
'Where's Thomas?' Frypan yelled.

We bend down behind a big box. My eye caught Vince and Harriet firing bullets at guards.

'Vince! Harriet!' Newt pulled me up again and we ran over to the two.

'How can we help?' Minho asked while he tried not to get shot.

'You need to cover us!' Vince yelled, then he looked at Minho. 'Hey! Do you know how to use this thing?' Vince handed Minho a gun.

Harriet pushed a gun into my hands too and I started shooting. I hit a few guards and they fell onto the ground.

'Nice shot!' Logan screamed through the explosions.

'Vince, hurry up!' Newt yelled after a while. 'There's too many of them!'

Newt was right. More guards appeared and they started shooting back at us.

'Look out!' Newt suddenly screamed. A guard had thrown a black thing toward us. Confused I looked at the thing. When it hit the ground, it exploded and gave all of us electric shocks. I let my gun fall and dropped down on the floor. My whole body ached.

We got pushed down on our knees, next to dozens of other people. A guard roughly grabbed my neck and scanned it.

'A10.'

Rat Man appeared and he looked around the crowd. I gave him a dirty glance.

'Where's Thomas?' Rat Man asked.

'Right here.'

I spun my head around and saw Thomas walking towards us. Rat Man grinned when a guard grabbed Thomas and lead him over to Janson.

'Thomas.' Rat Man grabbed Thomas and kneed him in the stomach. Thomas grunted and bent down.

'Hey!' Logan screamed, trying to get out of a guard's tight grip.

'Get him in line.' Janson ordered.

'Why didn't you run?' Minho asked Thomas.

'I'm tired of running.' Thomas replied.

A loud sound got closer to us and I saw it was a Berg. It landed on the floor, making the sand rise.

More guards got out of the Berg and a blonde woman followed. Ava Paige. Thomas was right. She was still alive.

The doctor walked over to us and looked around in the crowd. Ava said something to Rat Man before turning to us again. She motioned for Thomas to get up.

'Hello, Thomas.'

Behind Ava were guards, loading people into the Berg. Suddenly Teresa appeared and stood next to Ava. Ava embraced her joyfully.

'I'm glad you're safe.' She smiled.

'What the hell?' Minho got up and so did I.

'Teresa?' I stammered. Why would Teresa stand next to Ava like that?

'Wait, what's going on?' Newt asked.

'She's with them.' Thomas replied. He didn't seem very happy about it. My stomach dropped.

'Since when?' I asked.

'Teresa's always had an evolved appreciation of the greater good.' Rat Man grinned again. 'Once we restored her memories, it was only a matter of time.'

Anger rose in my chest. Teresa had betrayed us. She had told WICKED we were at the Right Arm. We spend so many days finding it and now she ruined everything.

'I'm sorry.' Teresa had tears in her eyes. I balled my fists, trying to calm myself down, but the fact she betrayed us made me angrier and angrier by the second. All our work was for nothing.
'I had no choice. This is the only way. We have to find a cure.'

Without realizing what I was doing, I rushed over to Teresa and punched her in the face. A guard pulled me away from Teresa.

'Nora!' Newt yelled.

Logan jumped into action and roughly pushed the guard off me. Quickly he pulled me back to the others. Rat Man glanced at me.

'She's right.' Ava said, ignoring what just happened. 'This is all just a means to an end. You used to understand that, Thomas. No matter what you think of me... I am not a monster. I'm a doctor. I swore an oath to find a cure! No matter the cost. I just need more time.'

'More blood.' Mary spoke from behind us.

'Hello, Mary. I hoped we'd meet again. I'm sorry it had to be under these circumstances.' Ava replied very calmly.

'I'm sorry about a lot of things, too. But not this. At least my conscience is clear.' Mary answered bravely.

'So is mine.'

Suddenly a gunshot went off. I flinched and closed my eyes for a slight second.

'Mary? Mary?' Vince ran over to Mary, who fell to the ground. My breathing hitched when I realized what happened. Rat Man had shot Mary.

'Mary!' Vince screamed. 'Mary! Mary!' He shook her lifeless body. Vince kept screaming until a guard grabbed him.

'Come on, Janson. Load them up. Let's go. All these people. Get rid of them.' Ava ordered. Aris and Sonya got grabbed by a guard too.

When a guard wanted to push Thomas, he grabbed something out of his pocket.
'Get back!' He yelled. 'Everyone, stand back!'

He had a bomb in his hands.

'Thomas, put it down.' Rat Man ordered.

'Let 'em all go!' Thomas ordered, pointing the bomb and Ava, Teresa, and Rat Man.

'You know I can't do that!' Ava shouted.

'Thomas, please stop.' Teresa cried. 'I made a deal with them. They promised we'd be safe. All of us.'

'And I'm supposed to trust you now?' Thomas snapped. He was right. I was never going to trust Teresa ever again. This was exactly why I had issues with trusting people.

'It's true. It was her only condition.' Ava defended Teresa.

'Shut up!'

'Everything can go back to the way it was. Thomas... do you really want all of them to die?' Ava questioned, slowly walking closer to Thomas.

'Listen to her, Thomas. Think about what you're doing.' Rat Man said.

Minho and Frypan walked over to Thomas. I didn't hesitate to follow them and soon Logan and Newt did too. 'We're with you, Thomas.' Minho quietly said.

'No.' Teresa cried. 'Don't.'

'Do it, Thomas.' I whispered.

'We're ready.'

'We're not going back there.' Thomas looked at Ava.

'Thomas?'

'It's the only way.' Thomas held the bomb in front of him.

'Thomas!' Ava screamed.

Suddenly the approaching of a vehicle interrupted us. It bumped into a helicopter, which made pieces fly into the air, almost hitting us.

We bend down and I noticed Ava and Rat Man running away.

'Come on. Come on!'

'Get her out of here!'

We got up again. Thomas still held the gun. A guard pointed a gun at him.

'Freeze! Drop it, kid!'

Thomas threw the bomb toward the guards.

'Run! Get down!' Thomas yelled.

I jumped onto the floor and closed my eyes. The explosion made the floor shake and it hurt my ears again.

Vince ran over to the same gun we stood earlier. He got on top of the vehicle and started shooting with the giant gun. Dozens of shots at the same time went off. The guards fell to the ground.

I saw a gun lying on the ground and ran over to it. Quickly I grabbed it and started shooting. Minho appeared next to me, with a gun in his hands too.

'Get outta here!' I screamed at the others. Me and Minho let them run past us.

'Come on, Thomas! Go!' Minho yelled at the boy. He ran past us too.

'Minho, Nora, come on!' Newt screamed at us.

I kept shouting at the guard who neared us. After shooting at least three, I was out of bullets.

'Minho! I'm out!' I screamed. Minho was out of bullets too.

In a panic, I wanted to run over to the others, but more guards appeared in front of me and Minho.

'Minho!' I screamed. Two guards shot at us and hit us right in the stomach. Shocks of electricity made me fall onto the ground. My body ached, but also felt numb. I couldn't move except for the shocks.

'Nora!' Newt screamed. The others started shouting for me and Minho too.

'Minho!' Thomas got off of the ground and started running toward us. Newt didn't hesitate to follow.

'Thomas, no!' Jorge grabbed the boy before he could reach us.

In pain, I felt someone grab my shoulder and drag me away.

'Nora!' Newt screamed. He started running towards me too, but Vince grabbed his arm and pulled him back. Two guards kept dragging me and I caught a glimpse of Minho being dragged too.

I got dragged into the Berg, still not able to move. My body was still numb. The guards pushed me down on the floor and there I lay, half unconscious.

Then the Berg rose with me and Minho in it.
