somewhere in the air, not on earth but also not in space yet, evi found herself next to the boy in the pyjama.

"hey" she called, the air getting thinner

"oh, h-hey" he answered

they simultaneously tried to climb the ship, but at the speed it was moving, it was harder than they had expected.

"pete, maximoff, you gotta let go. i'm gonna catch you" stark suddenly spoke

"but you said save the wizard!"

"yeah and 'look after the boy'"

"i can't breathe" he took of his mask and evi had been right, it was indeed a boy, but there wasn't really time to think about that now

"me neither" she croaked

"we're too high up, you're running out of air"

"yeah that makes sense" he couldn't hold himself up anymore, and suddenly fell down beside her

"no" evi screamed, but she wasn't fast enough, her eyes growing tired as well, considering the air her head was lacking, her powers glitched, she was only able to hold on because of them, but the moment she fell unconscious, she was definitely dead.

that was her last thought before she lost consciousness.

"i was gonna go home"

"i don't wanna hear it"

"but it was such a long way down and i just though about you on the way and kinda stuck to the side of the ship... and this suit is ridiculously intuitive, by the way, so if anything, it's kinda your fault that i'm here"

"what did you just say?"

"i take that back, and- and now i'm here in space, and- oh my god is she dead, or dead again?!"

evi awoke from voices beside her, they were fighting. she sat up slowly. the boy and stark stood in front of each other, next to stark and evi was strange's cape? who seemed to follow everything that was said and also react properly.

"oh hey, you're awake" said stark, bending down to her level concerned "you couldn't breathe for a few minutes, are you okay?"

"i'm fine" evi stood up with the boys help, who had held his hand towards her.

"i'm peter parker by the way, and obviously i'm spider-man"

"evi maximoff, but i guess you already knew that" peters cheeks turned red at that "what's a spider-man though? you're superhero name? never heard of it before"

"oh ye-yeah i um, i got bitten by a radioactive spider and the rest is history, i'm not like a super big superhero but i like to make my self useful"

"i presume the whole spider-man thing was after my time then?"

"ye-yeah" peters eyes turned big "i'm sorry of course you've never heard of me, because you were dead and all" his voice got higher towards the end of the sentence

stark pinched his noice in annoyance. "going back to what we were just discussing on, i didn't want you to be here, listen, this isn't coney island, this isn't a field trip, this is a one- way ticket.. you hear me? don't pretend you thought this through"

"no i did think this through"

"you could not have possibly thought this through"

"you can't be a friendly neighbourhood spider-man if there's no neighbourhood... okay that didn't really make sense, but you know what i'm trying to say"

stark shook his head while evina stepped a few meters forward.

"and also: what do you think you're doing huh? getting all flustered and flirty with- with her?"

"what no! i'm not"

"where do you even know her from? she was on the team for like two seconds"

evi just tried to overhear that whole conversation.

"we talked about her in school" peter explained "about the strucker experiments, about her and her siblings, i did a report on her once"

"oh you did a report on her? how cute" stark said sarcastically. "stay away from her, you hear me? she's still the enemy"

evi couldn't overhear that part of the conversation.

"excuse me?" she said, turning around again "you think, after i died for your cause, that i'm still the enemy?!"

"well, yeah" stark answered "you'd still like to kill me"

"yeah because i lost everything thanks to you" she sighed "but you don't realise that i left that behind me a long time ago?"

"you never said you did" stark shrugged

tears welled in her eyes. tony felt his heart hurt a little when he looked at her. "what else do i have to do to prove it to you? i tried to be better, we all did and in the end it was for nothing"

"maximoff-" stark tried to reason, but she had already stepped away from him

in the time they had known each other, evi and stark never got along, they basically hated each other and would make that known any chance they got, but through all the insults and mean remarks they threw at each other, tony had never seen evina upset once, she was always annoyed at him but never hurt

tony stark had never thought that he'd have the power to actually hurt evina maximoff.

he always thought she wouldn't care what he thought of her, but apparently she did. it seemed important to her that he knew that she tried to be good, and she definitely proved to be before.

maybe they weren't so different after all. tony had lost his parents too, and while he would never really understand how that had felt for evi, he could at least understand where she was coming from with all that anger towards him, he hadn't felt any different about bucky either.

he also understood how traumatised she would be over the last events, he had nearly died and found that quiet traumatic and she, she did actually die and missed all this time...

for tony stark the battle of sokovia was three years ago, for evina maximoff it happened just mere seconds ago and then she came back and was immediately thrown into another fight again?!

that didn't seem fair. tony did feel a lot of sympathy for her, and she had already proved her good intentions again when she came to find him and warn them of the approaching danger in form of thanos, and even staying to fight.

not only that, but she also went after his boy, after he had asked her to help him, she could've died there and then, she could've even decided not to follow his request and run off to search for her sister instead, but she didn't do that, she stayed.

and that was why evi maximoff did not deserve to be called the enemy anymore, she probably never did

"i think you really hurt her" peter said pointing towards the girl, who was still sobbing silently

"yeah, i think i did" peter was surprised how sincere tony was, but he looked truly sorry

"hey guys" sniffled evi, waving them in her direction.

tony decided to fix their fight later and focus on the problem at hand right now.

"we've got a situation down there" said evi gesturing to the alien and the captivated doctor strange

"you could say that" peter slowly nodded, squatting down beside evi, the cape peering over his shoulder

"what's your plan?" asked stark "go!"

"okay, okay.. uh" peter stood up suddenly, evi following, while the cape shrieked back. "okay, did you ever see this really old movie, aliens?"
