𝐗.
It is Friday night and Barry is surrounded by his friends. Leaning against the bar Barry waited for his whiskey. Knocking back the whiskey he waited for the buzz to kick in but nothing happened.
"I have a problem!"
"Yeah, we all do when guys like him exist," Cisco said. Barry, Caitlin, and Sophia followed his gaze over towards Eddie and Iris playing darts.
"That man is fine," Sophia said dreamily.
Caitlin sighed dreamily. "Yeah.. he's so hot." Then her head whipped back to meet Barry. "I mean genetically speaking. Because I'm a geneticist, of course." her face fell. "Oh my gosh. I sound like Felicity." She said feeling embarrassed.
"Good cover-up, Snow," Sophia said laughing. "You jelly, Bear?" She asks her brother.
"I'm not jealous of Eddie. You're already mine, Cait." Barry said smirking.
"Yes, I am," Caitlin said and kissed him.
"Seriously, though. I can't feel anything," Barry said and drinks some shots of vodka at super speed.
"Yeah, that's what's supposed to happen after you drink that much," Cisco told him with a raised eyebrow. Caitlin and Sophia giggled.
"No. Alcohol is not affecting me. I feel nothing."
Caitlin's eyes light up like a candle and she started to grin. "It's your hypo-metabolism." She bounced a little with excitement, before grabbing her purse. "I need a sample."
"You carry a blood sampling kit in your purse?" Sophia asked.
"You have your hobbies. I have mine." She then took her boyfriend's blood and put it in a small machine.
Cisco came back with another round of shots and they all drank. "Still nothing?"
Barry shakes his head. "Guys, I can't get drunk. I'm only 25 and my drinking days are already over." He frowned.
~ Much Later ~
Barry stormed into S.T.A.R. Labs determined to find all he could about this new metahuman who has been blowing things up in his city. He had already relayed all he knew so far to his girlfriend about the new metahuman and its possible superhuman capabilities in making things blow up when he called her earlier in the morning due to a callout on the explosion case related to this metahuman they were now searching for. He was returning from suspiciously getting kicked off the case by military officers, Barry walked into the cortex annoyed.
"CCPD has been ordered off the case." He remarked.
"Who has the power to do that?" Caitlin questioned.
"The army. It's some General named-"
"General Wade Eling." Dr. Wells finished as he wheeled into the room from behind them.
"He seized all the evidence, but I managed to swipe this folder." Barry unfolded his arms and handed the manila folder to his sister who began examining its contents.
"The DA file number is all you have on our metahuman?" Sophia looked up at Barry who shook his head in frustration.
"Well, lucky enough for us the DA finally joined the millennium and digitalized all their documents." Sophia swiveled himself around back to the computers where she began searching for further information to help them.
"Her name is Bette San Souci. An EOD grade specialist for the army." She said.
"EOD?" Caitlin asked.
"Bombs," Sophia explained.
"Is there an address?" Barry leaned over her shoulder looking for a point of contact.
~ Moments Later ~
"Bette San Souci?"
"I need you to come with me-" Barry said and reached out to her.
"Don't touch me!" Bette said and pushed him away.
Looking down he sees his suit's emblem start glowing a deep shade of purple.
"Get whatever you're wearing off NOW!" She ordered.
KA-BOOM!
"Barry? Barry, can you hear me?" Caitlin asks gripping her desk for support and static echoing throughout the room. Barry flashes in seconds later and puts on a S.T.A.R. Labs sweatshirt.
"Uh..." Caitlin said drooling over her boyfriend's body.
"Don't ask," Barry grumbled, walking over to the desk.
"I'm gonna ask," Cisco said. "Where's my super suit?"
Sophia laughs getting the reference.
"Gone."
"What do you mean it's gone?" Cisco asked dangerously. "What did you do to my super suit?"
"It blew up dude. It went... KA-BOOM!"
"My suit..." Cisco stopped, confusion written all over his face. "Went... Kaboom?"
"Don't you have 3 other super suits or something?" Sophia asked him with a smirk.
Cisco hopped on his computer. "I have two but that's not the point when I find this girl I'm gonna send her ass into the pipeline. Nobody blows up my super suit and gets away with it." He said determinedly.
"She didn't want to hurt me and she also gave me a chance to get away,"
Barry argues.
"Okay, get her to S.T.A.R. Labs. So, we can see what she can do." Caitlin said.
Harrison Wells then handed Bette a pair of gloves to prevent her from blowing anything else up, as they talked to her about the different metahumans.
"So, there are others like me?" Bette asked in amazement.
"There have been a few," Caitlin told her.
Cisco leads Bette to a table of objects and explained how she would turn each of them into bombs and throw them.
Bette picked up a frisbee and tossed it into the air. It explodes a few seconds later. "You have nearly as much kaboom as a Plastique!" Cisco commented, looking down at his tablet. "Wait, that's it! Plastique! Ha, first try."
Caitlin bit her lip. "Unfortunately, the shrapnel in your body from General Elling has merged with you at a cellular level."
Bette looked at the ground, and Dr. Wells spoke up. "The technology required to un-splice your DNA... it hasn't been invented yet."
Tears filled Bette's eyes, but she nodded. "Bette..." Barry started.
She shook her head. "It's okay. I-I... just need a minute." She walked out of the room. "Don't worry. I think I can still cry without blowing shit up."
She strode out of the room, and Barry turned to go after her, but Caitlin stopped him. "I got it, Babe."
"Hey, Bette?" Caitlin slid down the wall beside where she was crouched, crying into her arms.
She looked up. "What do you want?"
"I just wanted to make sure you're okay," Caitlin said.
"I'm peachy!" Bette snapped and then her gaze softened. "I'm sorry... It just hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows."
"I understand but there is still a chance for you to survive. We will do everything in our power for you to survive this." Caitlin takes her hand and squeezes it gently. Bette smiles slightly.
"Are you scared... to die?" Caitlin asked.
"No. I know I'm going to die soon... I just wish I had done more with my life. But at least I'll go out with a bang."
They hugged each other. "I'll stay here for a little while longer. Thank you, Caitlin." Bette said.
"You're welcome."
~ Much Later ~
Bette was dead. She made a sacrifice
taking a bullet that saved Barry. He was now more concerned about Eling and the problems they now faced with him trying to capture him. He thought about how they will now have to keep a close eye on Eling and like Dr. Wells warned... He was someone they didn't want as an enemy.
"You gonna be okay?" Caitlin asked.
"Yeah."
Caitlin tried for a smile. "You can run on water. It puts you in a pretty interesting company." Barry laughed a little. Caitlin wrapped her arms around his shoulders and hugged him. "You know, when I was out there talking to Bette... she told me that she wasn't scared. She was okay with this."
"She might have been. I'm not."
"I know," Caitlin murmured. She let go of him, and ever so gently, pressed her lips to his shivering in delight.
"You ready?"
"Yeah, let's go home," Barry said and they walked out of S.T.A.R Labs hand in hand.
~ Caitlin and Barry's Apartment ~
"Come. I've got something for you."
Caitlin said going into the kitchen
appearing back with a glass of clear liquid and in her other hand, she held a glass of vodka.
"What's this?"
"I thought we'd have a toast," Caitlin said.
"It doesn't' work on me remember." Barry sighed wishing he could enjoy the buzz of a good drink.
"Barry Allen you of all people should know nothing is impossible." She said coyly.
"I distilled a highly fermented potent suspension. Basically 500% proof. I figured if anyone could use a drink tonight it was you..." Barry followed suit as Caitlin raised her glass into the air before continuing.
"So, here's to Bette!"
"To Bette!"
"You buzzed?" Caitlin asked eagerly bouncing on her toes as she waited for an answer.
"Yeah, I am for sure. Woah that's some pretty good stuff." Barry slurred.
"And... It's gone," he muttered.
"Work in progress." she shrugged.
