Chapter 35: Cutting It Close
I wake up bright and early the next morning, my face dirty and hair knotted. I decide to take a trip to the lake to wash up. If the lake wasn't frozen.
When I get up, I feel something by my foot.
A silver parachute! Inside was a small pack of beef jerky and crackers along with a small plastic water bottle.
I immediately rip open the crackers and jerky and shove a cracker in my mouth, delicious feeling spreading through my body. I keep the rest safe though, because I can eat it when I don't have potatoes and a fire. So I make one and roast a potato, gobbling it up.
I then sling my bag over my shoulders and grip my burlap sack and start walking west.
After 2 hours of walking, I find a frozen river. Great.
But then I crack the ice with my axe and jump in.
Sure, its cold, but I feel like mud. I need to refresh myself. I wet my hair, face, arms, legs, scrubbing my fingernails. After a long 5 minutes, it was too cold so I came out and sat until I dried. Suddenly, I was almost completely dry when a boy approaches.
He's the District 9 boy.
I slowly approach from behind with my axe, but he whips around and swings aimlessly with a sword. The boy has light red hair and freckles and is probably a year or two older than me. He brings the sword down, causing a small burst of pain in my shin before I can jump back. I throw my axe, full force, at his chest. Surely, it buries itself in his chest as he collapses. I pull the axe out of his body and back off as the hovercraft flies in and retrieves his body.
Including me, it is now the top 5.
Suddenly, I hear a cannon and a familiar scream.
MAX!
