13) Unreplied Texts

Kylie stuffed her face with one brown chocolate after the other. So far, the night wasn't going that great.

Kyle still had to reply to his unopened texts and Kylie's stomach was cramping so bad that she just wanted to roll into a ball and cry.

She sighed as she tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear. She'd curled her hair so that it fell in curtains of waves down her shoulders. Her tailed baby blue dress with it's off shoulder neckline fit her perfectly and made her look even more angelic than she already was.

All for nothing.

She thought before reminding herself that she dressed for no one but herself. That didn't make her stop missing Kyle's presence though.

Taking time to pick her next chocolate as she leaned against the dessert table, Kylie heard a voice speak up near her.

"Date bailed on you too?"

Covering her mouth as she swallowed her chocolate, Kylie turned behind to see a girl in a wine red dress standing next to her.

"Kyle's just late." She said as Niymath smiled sadly in reply. "What about you?"

"My friends bailed on me." The 16 year old said as she walked upto Kylie and propped her elbows on the long table and leaned back, her floor length dress rising up a bit to reveal a pair of deep, cream coloured heels. The same colour as the hijab gracefully wrapped around her head.

Layla Mahamood was, caring to say the least, a trait she and Kylie shared together, and the two girls shared at least half their classes together. In 9th grade, the two of them had been partners for a camping trip. Alexa had been sick during the week so she wasn't able to come hence Kylie had picked Layla. She still remembered both of them narrating horror stories under their tent and holding their breathe everytime a twig snapped before bursting out laughing.

"We were supposed to hang out together but they just disappeared." The fair skinned Sri Lankan yawned as she fiddled with the band around her waist, her long flared sleeves brushing past her hip.

She looked gorgeous. As always.

"Do your parents know yet?" Kylie asked before hurriedly adding. "Nevermind you don't need to tell me-"

"Nah nah it's fine." Layla said as she waved a hand lazily as she stood up straight. "They don't." She said as her dark eyes stared straight at Kylie. They were almost black if you didn't look carefully enough.

"You're the only one that knows I'm Pan." She said with a forced laugh.

Damn that 9th grade confession felt like ages ago.

"Hey you know that I'll support you no matter what." Kylie smiled, her dimples popping out of the corners of her mouth as her green eyes brightened.

"Like can't she honestly show some skin?"

Turning her head towards a group of boys near them, Layla flashed them a pursed lipped smile. "Make all the remarks you want, one day they'll just blow up in your face."

Rolling her eyes as she turned back to face Kylie she grabbed a few chocolates from the ball besides Kylie before taking a few steps forward. "I'm just gonna roam around outside. You wanna come?"

Ryan sat with Anther sulking and shooting a few glares at people who stared at them for too long. But otherwise, Ryan just depressingly stared at Alexa.

"What's wrong with me?" He asked, turning to face Anther. "She comes here looking all amazing, and then she doesn't even dance."

Anther sighed in reply when he had no other words to say. And mind you, this had been going for a pretty long while. "At least yours isn't just staring at her phone cuz she isn’t allowed to be with you.

"Teenage life sucks," Ryan exhaled, nputting his attention back on Alexa.

"Oh Crap!" He screamed suddenly-getting even weirder stares from people- the moment the fast paced song people were jumping to, finished.

"What?" Asked Anther lazily while he watched Cathy raise her head from her phone to make eye contact with him. Her dark eyes freezing up when they met his before she came back to her senses and smiled sadly at Anther before putting her head back down.

If she was going to have to avoid every single person she cared about, Cathy really didn’t want to stay here. But she didn't want to go back home too. Muttering curses under her breath, she went back to staring at the unopened texts she’d sent her dad.

"Oi! Oi! That jerk just pulled Alexa to the dance floor." Ryan hissed as he slapped Anther's arm repeatedly.

Ryan, several people like Alexa, and all of them are considered jerks from your piont of view." Anther looked away from Cathy and turned his head towards Ryan. Who, by the looks of it, looked ready to tear whoever jerk was, apart. Anther turned his direction of view to what Ryan was looking at.

Julian Santiago ; Tall and dark haired with matching eyes and skin, a charming smile and glasses girls found highly cute, the 17 year old football captain was literally perfect ; sports, studies, girls, you name it and he knew exactly how to do it right. It was common knowledge that from all the admirers that Alexa had turned down, Julian and Ryan were the most persistent. And the fact that Hispanic teen and Alexa were on the same football team, didn't sit well with Ryan.

Anther saw Ryan stand up from the corner of his eye and in no time, he was fast walking in the direction of Alexa.

Anther groaned as he stood up. Why couldn't he have just stayed home slept. "Ryan-" he said placing his hand on the baseball player's shoulder. Ryan shrugged it off.

"Ryan think straight." Anther said as he grabbed Ryan's arm before dragging him to a corner.

"Anther let me go," said Ryan helplessly fighting at Anther's grip as he stared at his friend.

"So you can go and break your relationship apart?" Snapped Anther. "How about we just stay here and watch. And if... if things go out of hand, we'll stop it."

Ryan laughed sarcastically. "Once it's already happened?"

"What's the worst that could happen?!"

"They could kiss!" Said Ryan throwing his free hand up.

"For shit's sake Ry, life's not all about kissing random people!" Anther snapped. Letting go of Ryan's hand, he sighed before continuing. "Besides, I doubt Alexa would let that happen."

"But that doesn't stop me from doubting Julian."

"But-"

After about at least 5 minutes of debating and Anther nearly literally slapping some sense into Ryan, the two boys came to agreement to hide under the drink table and watch Alexa.

The two of them ever so casually walked up to the white clothed table and stood near it. Ryan raised the tablecloth a few inches off the ground, glanced side to side before sneaking under. Looking around once more to make sure no one was going to see them, Anther ended up making eye contact with a senior that stared at them with amusement. Grinning when she noticed Anther staring at her, she winked at him and held up her thumb before turning around and distracting the girls surrounding her.

"Clear?" Ryan asked once Anther had crawled under.

"Other than the fact that I'm pretty sure Jessica Chan thinks we're gay, nothing's to worry about."

"Wait what?!"

"Nothing."

Ryan grunted in response before rolling onto his side, raising the cloth up and peeling his eyes at Alexa's not to far away figure.

"Keep that up and your eyeballs are going to pop." Muttered Anther rolling onto his stomach and placing his chin in his palms. "You'll get a better view from here."

Ryan sighed and rolled onto his stomach as his blonde head brushed the top of the table, tiny balls of dust setting on top. "Couldn't you have said that before?" He mumbled.

"I don't know to dance and I don't like dancing." He heard Alexa saying in a bored voice.

"Then I'll teach you," said Julian horribly concealing his smirk while placing his hands on Alexa's waist.

"Now just sway," said the boy as he guided Alexa. "And-" he took Alexa's hands "-put your hands around my neck." He looped Alexa's hands around his neck and pressed his forehead to her's.

Ryan pulled Anther's hand.

"Oi! Oi! Ryan cut it out," said Anther trying to pull his hand away from Ryan's grip. "Shit Ryan it's red!" Hissed Anther rubbing his hand.

Ryan watched as Alexa pulled away from Julian. He let out a low yelp of victory. "I told you," he said beaming at Anther from under the table. "She loves me not that good for nothing scumbag."

Anther glared at Ryan before his thoughts shifted to Cathy. "But she doesn't," he muttered.

Ryan ignored Anther and fixed his attention on Alexa.

"I don't think this is the right dance for a song like this." She said with an apologetic smile. "And I told you, I don't dance," and with that Alexa turned and walked towards their table.

Anther nudged Ryan in the ribs. "Ouch! what was that for?" Hissed Ryan.

"This is your chance," said Anther nodding his head towards Alexa- or more towards her feet.- "Sneak out from the other side of the table and go ask her."

"She's gonna refuse."

"Not to dance, just for a walk." Said Anther in a 'duh' tone.

Ryan considered the thought and then smacked Anther on the shoulders.

"I wish I could help sort your problems man, but unfortunately I'm not a love guru like you so bye," said Ryan before turning onto his knees and crawling out of the side of the table.

Anther rolled his eyes at Ryan's comment before poking his head out of the corner to watch his smoothen the wrinkles on his tux and walk up to Alexa with a grin on his face; clearly not noticing the puddle of drink in front of him. But before Anther could shout a warning, Ryan stepped into the puddle, his shoe went up and his lower lower body arched back before he fell backwards.

The music stopped.

Seriously!?

Each and every head turned towards Ryan while he lay there on the ground with a tomato red face.

And then the whispers began, soon following snickers than erupted into laughter.

Anther was right about to get out from under the table but stopped when he heard Alexa yelling.

"What are you looking at!?" She screamed as she grabbed Ryan's hand and pulled him off the ground in one swift move without taking her eyes off the crowd.

Damn that girl was strong.

"Have y'all never a guy fall before!?" She yelled taking a step towards a few girls who backed away in fear. Alexa turned towards Ryan, grabbed his hand. "Idiots." She muttered audibly before pulling Ryan away.

Ryan turned his head behind and gave Anther a thankful smile before being dragged way by Alexa.

Anther smiled and leaned his head against one of the table's legs before hurriedly crawling away screaming because of a cockroach.

"Need some help there?"

Panting as he stood up, Anther felt his mouth lift into a smile as he saw Cathy staring back at him. The tiny freckles dotting the bridge of her nose seemed even more clear under the bright light.

But then the lights dimmed again and the first few notes of a slow song started playing.

"Would you be ever so generous to honor me with this dance?" Cathy laughed as she did a slight curtsy.

"Why wouldn't I my lady," Anther began but ended up laughing towards the end as the both of them skidded towards the dance floor.

The first few words of Perfect by Ed Sheeran filled the gym as Anther placed his hands around Cathy's waist, the brown haired girl repeated his actions except she looped her's around his neck.

"Aren't you not supposed to hang out with us?" Anther asked as he stepped back and twirled Cathy around.

"Yup." Cathy answered as she came forward and brought both of their palms together. "But we're anyway probably gonna die pretty soon. So I just decided to do what makes me happy. Like honestly, I'm just sick of being sad."

Anther smiled in reply. " I heard about Zach. And I'm sorry I wasn't there."

"Oh please Anther, I've got two arms incase you didn't notice."

Anther rolled his eyes playfully in reply. "Of course. You're a damn demon hunter. Zach's no match for you...You look gorgeous by the way," he added, turning away at the end of the sentence.

Cathy chuckled at his red cheeks. "Thank you! And u don't look bad yourself."

The two danced for couple more songs, cracking up jokes and wondering how Kylie and Ryan's looks were so similar despite them supposing to look as alike as normal siblings.

Anther exhaled as he placed his forehead on Cathy's during the beginning of the third song. "I wish we could just stay like this forever."

"Me too," Cathy exhaled. She closed her eyes for a split second before opening them to see Anther's baby blues looking at her plain brown ones.

"Others see plain old brown eyes but I see galaxies"

She'd seen him write at the back of one of his books once. A book which he'd hurriedly shut when Cathy asked what he was doing.

Anther's hand rose to her cheek and Cathy felt herself leaning into the warmth of his touch. Their faces only an inch apart.

"Kyl..."

Cathy choked on air as she pulled back, repeatedly thumping her chest to make her breathing come back to normal, the gust of cold air that had swept over her not a second ago, had completely gone away, only leaving a whisper of a touch in it's wake.

"Are you okay?"

Cathy coughed as her tongue went dry and she shook her head repeatedly before finally gasping out. "I need to see Kylie."

Fourth, feel proud of me yo, even though this chapter may not be the best, I still completed it.

Also, TYSM FOR READING UPTO HERE!!! I APPRECIATE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF U!

Vote if u want and comment ur theories cuz I'd love to read them.

And that's all for today so I'll see u guys next time:)

Fun fact for today : the scene with Kylie and Layla was actually a scene with Kylie in Zach in the first draft. Along with Zach being Cathy's date for the dance. Also, Kylie was supposed to get together with Zach in the end.
