Emma Jones was a boring girl of seventeen years of age, she passed by with average grades, and she didn't have many friends but she had a good few that stuck by her side through the years. She had a good family that loved her to the best abilities, they were well off and had a nice house.
When Emma was supposed to be studying she played games, watched shows and anime and essentially became a shut-in when she got home and on the weekends when her friends didn't drag her out by force.
She liked her simple life and she didn't expect anything great to come out of it, she didn't think she would win the lotto, become a doctor or do anything meaningful. She was okay with leeching off her parents and working a simple job at the convenience store, she didn't have much ambition compared to her peers or friends. It disappointed her parents a lot but she just didn't care about anything like that.
So when she was coming home from her shift at the store with a new rendition of Red Hood and the Outlaws she had brought from the local comic book store. She thought his character was a little washed over considering he was the main character but she loved seeing his interactions with Arsenal.
Call her a basic girl but Jason Todd and Nightwing were her favourite male characters with Supergirl and Raven being her favourite female characters. Her opinions got a little heated with her best friend who was a Marvel fan so they usually fought over which was better. Emma thought DC had better villains and heroes while Marvel had better plotlines and some good characters like Spiderman and The Scarlet Witch,
She itched to take the comic out of its plastic sleeve but held off to read it in the safety of her room. Until she heard a childish laugh, her eyes sought the grating noise and she saw a little girl that looked like she had just finished school since she was still in her navy uniform. She was playing with what looked like a blow-up beach ball and the wind had knocked it out of her hands and it rolled onto the road. Like all stupid and naรฏve children, she chased after it, ignoring the yell of her mother
It was obvious to anyone that she didn't like children, it amused her parents especially when her cousins came over to her and boasted about their 'beautiful' babies only to be met with a scowl and a scoff from Emma. She found them repulsive and stupid, perhaps deep down it was jealousy that they could see the world through rose-tinted eyes and see nothing of the ugliness, the world on fire that Emma saw.
She swore she would never birth a demon child because she believed people should adopt inside of having a child and then leaving said child on the streets. The thought crept into her mind once or twice, she picked out the name for her child when she was 10 and she would stand by it till she died. It was rather contradicting but Emma Jones was a living contradiction, it kept people on their toes.
Despite her dislike for children, she chased after the kid, crossing the road as she dropped the comic book and pushed the girl out of the way from the incoming traffic. It was a stupid and ambitious move that wouldn't grant her anything but a smile and a sad thank you.
And she regretted it the moment it happened, especially since she hadn't gotten out of the way and the truck bulldozed through her like a piece of paper. All Emma heard was a loud crack then a splat and pain she had never felt before, more painful than stubbing her toe on some furniture, or the time she rolled her ankle after she tripped over literal air.
Then there was nothing after the blinding pain, just silence and darkness. The last two thoughts that crossed Emma's mind were that she never got to say goodbye to her family or see Jason Todd's piece of white hair again.
