Chapter 19. The Country Club

✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧

𝐎𝐍 the soccer field, Rebecca and Ali were in the middle of a friendly match with Daniel. Rebecca passed the ball to Ali, who sent it sailing into the goal. The three exchanged high fives, grinning.

"Hey, not bad." Daniel said to Ali

"Yeah." Ali smiled

"Definitely varsity material," Rebecca added, nudging Ali playfully with her shoulder.

"Hey, you two let me," Ali laughed.

Daniel turned to Ali. "Hey, I was gonna call you about trying that slide Friday night. You up for it?"

"Yeah," she said.

"Yeah? Great. I'll pick you up by about 7:00?" Daniel asked.

"Oh, I'm, uh, having dinner with my parents at their country club," Ali said. "But I'll be done by 9:30. Meet me out front."

"Is that cool?" he asked.

"Yeah," she nodded.

"Hey Johnny. Johnny, over here!" Tommy shouted from across the field. Daniel looked in the direction of the Cobra Kais, then lowered his eyes to the ground.

"What is it, Daniel?" Rebecca asked gently.

"I'm just hearing that little voice again," he replied.

"Yeah. Pretend you're deaf," Ali said with a wink. "Encino Oaks Country Club. 9:30."

"Uh, Friday?" Daniel confirmed.

"Yeah," she said with a smile.

"Bye, Danny," Rebecca said sweetly before walking off with Ali.

As they made their way toward cheer practice, Johnny tried to kick the ball to Dutch, but it accidentally rolled into Ali's path, causing her to trip.

"Hey, way to go, buttertoes," Dutch called out.

Rebecca turned her head—and her eyes immediately locked with Bobby's. A small, swoony smile tugged at her lips as he blew her a kiss.

"Hey, beautiful," Bobby called with a grin.

"Hey, honey," Rebecca replied, her voice soft, eyes sparkling.

"Hi, Ali," Johnny added with a flirtatious tone.

"Hi, Ali," Ali mocked, rolling her eyes. She linked arms with Rebecca, and the two walked off laughing, heading toward the rest of the cheer squad to begin practicing their routine.

Later, during lunch, Rebecca strolled into the courtyard with her tray of food and spotted Bobby already waiting at one of the tables. Her heart did a little flip.

"Hey good looking." Rebecca smiled as she sat down next to her boyfriend

Bobby smiled brightly then pressed a kiss to her lips. "Hey babe, how's your day been?"

Rebecca cracked open her cherry coke, took a sip, and smiled. "It's been long. How about yours?"

"It's been good." Bobby said as he kissed her temple. "So listen, I've been thinking..."

"Are you sure you should be doing that? You might hurt yourself." Rebecca laughed

"Oh very funny." Bobby said as he playfully rolled his eyes and she threw a grape at him which he caught with his mouth. "No, my mom and dad have dying to meet you. So, they invited you to the country club on Friday night."

Rebecca paused. She'd heard plenty from Ali about the country club, and none of it made her feel like she'd belong there. Coming from Reseda, she suddenly felt small.

"The country club?" Rebecca asked, doubt in her voice. "Bobby, I don't belong in that kind of environment. What if your parents don't like me—or don't approve?"

Bobby's smile softened, and he pulled her into a gentle embrace, pressing a kiss to her temple. "Hey... of course you belong there. They'll love you—everyone does. I promise, I won't leave your side. You'll be just fine. And if you want, we'll leave early."

"Oh, that would be incredibly rude, wouldn't it?" Rebecca asked as she ate her grapes

"Not really," Bobby said. "All they do is talk about money, politics—stuff that makes you want to fall asleep. We don't usually go, but Johnny's mom, Laura, invited us this time. We wanted you there too. And if it helps... Ali's going to be there. I know you two are like sisters."

"Honey," Rebecca said with a soft smile, "I'd go with you even if she wasn't going. I'll be there."

Bobby grinned and laced his fingers with hers before leaning in again. "Good," he whispered, kissing her lips with tender affection.

Friday, December 14, 1984

Rebecca stood in front of her bedroom mirror, smoothing the wrinkles from her mother's black velvet dress. It was off-the-shoulder, long-sleeved, and had a slit that revealed one knee. She wasn't used to wearing dresses like this, and it made her feel a little exposed—but at the same time, it made her feel beautiful. Like her mother. Elegant, timeless.

She reached for locket from her mother and clasped it around her neck, her fingers brushing the pendant gently. Matching earrings followed, and then her simple black ballet flats. Her makeup was soft, natural—just enough to highlight her striking emerald eyes. Her hair was pulled back in a half ponytail, a few loose strands curling softly around her face.

She took a slow breath to calm the fluttering in her chest. Tonight, she wasn't just meeting Bobby's parents—she was walking into the Encino Oaks Country Club. A place for the wealthy. The powerful. And the polished.

Rebecca's stomach wasn't the only one that was in knots. Bobby stood on the front porch, dressed in a perfectly pressed suit and tie. His heart was pounding. He checked his watch—five minutes early. Classic. He ran a hand through his hair, trying to settle the nerves. Then, with a breath, he raised his hand and knocked.

Dean answered the door. "Hey Bobby," he greeted, stepping aside. "Please come in."

"Hi, Mr. Winchester. Thank you," Bobby replied, stepping in. His eyes flicked briefly to the photo of Lisa on the mantle. He swallowed.

Dean shut the door and set his beer on the end table. "Rebecca is still getting ready, but in the meantime, would you like something to drink? Water or tea?"

Bobby shook his head politely. "No thank you, I'm alright. But... is it okay if we talk?"

"Sure." Dean gestured to the couch.

Bobby sat down, his hands folded, eyes thoughtful. "Mr. Winchester, I know Rebecca is nervous about tonight, and she said she doesn't belong in that kind of environment, but she does. I want her to meet my parents, and they want to meet her. She's important to me."

Dean glanced at Lisa's photo again, then looked back at Bobby. His voice was steady and kind as he placed a hand on the boy's shoulder. "Hey, I understand. She loves you. And you make her happy."

"I love her. More than anything and anyone," Bobby said softly, with a fierce kind of sincerity. "I'll do anything for her."

Dean smiled at that. "I know. I'll admit—I misjudged you at first. I apologize for that. I hope you can forgive me."

"It's alright, Mr. Winchester," Bobby said with an understanding smile. "I understand."

Just then, Rebecca walked into the room—and Bobby's breath caught.

She was radiant.

The dress, the jewelry, the way she held herself—it all came together in a vision of quiet beauty that made his heart ache a little. She looked like someone out of a dream, and yet all he could see was her. His Rebecca.

"Hey, you two," she said warmly.

Bobby stood, his eyes locked on hers. "H-Hey. You look beautiful, Bec. But you always look beautiful in anything you wear."

Rebecca blushed, her smile lighting up the room. "Thank you, Bobby. You look nice yourself."

"Kiddo, he's right. You really do look beautiful," Dean added as he moved in to hug his daughter.

"Thanks, Daddy," Rebecca said as she wrapped her arms around him tightly.

Dean snapped a couple pictures—ones he knew he'd treasure—then gave Rebecca one last embrace. He shook Bobby's hand firmly, then watched them with a small, proud smile as they headed toward the door.

Then, still holding hands, Bobby led Rebecca out the door. She waved goodbye to her father before slipping into her boyfriend's blue car. Bobby gave Dean a polite wave, then slid into the driver's seat beside her.

They held hands the entire drive to the country club. When her nerves kicked in, Bobby's thumb traced calming circles against her skin, grounding her in the moment. Her breathing slowed. Her focus narrowed to him.

Bobby got out and opened the door for her, and the Valet took Bobby's car to park it. Rebecca stopped in front of the entrance and Bobby wrapped his arm around her. "Remember, we can leave early, if you feel uncomfortable." Bobby said

That sounded like an excellent idea to her, but she's facing the unknown. So, gathering every ounce of courage she possessed, she walked into the country club with her loving boyfriend completely unaware that a certain cobra would wreak havoc later on

The couple entered the country club, their arms entwined, the warmth between them undeniable. Rebecca was in awe. The room glittered with elegance—tables draped in white cloths, silverware catching the light like stars, and people gliding across the dance floor like they were part of an old movie. Despite the grandeur, she couldn't help but feel a pang of self-consciousness. But to Bobby, she wasn't just a part of this world—she lit it up. In his eyes, she was the most beautiful girl in the room.

As they moved deeper into the ballroom, Rebecca noticed familiar faces—Susan and Barbara with their families, both offering warm smiles that calmed her nerves. She glanced around for Ali, but didn't spot her yet. But the comfort she found wasn't just from them. It was Bobby, his hand in hers, never letting go, grounding her in a moment that felt too good to be real.

"Let's go meet my parents," Bobby suggested with a soft smile.

Rebecca's heart fluttered. "Okay," she replied sweetly.

As they approached the table, Bobby's grip on her hand tightened ever so slightly, a reassuring gesture. Rebecca met Bobby's parents—Adaline and Clark—two striking figures with warmth behind their polished appearances. But what struck her most wasn't their wealth or beauty—it was how they looked at Bobby and how they welcomed her with immediate kindness.

"Hi, sweetheart," Adaline smiled, stood up, gave him a hug, and kissed him on the cheek.

"Hey mom." Bobby said as he hugged her back, never letting go of Rebecca's hand

"Hello son," Clark said as he embraced Bobby and Bobby returned the embrace never letting go of Rebecca's hand

"Mom, dad, this is my beautiful and wonderful girlfriend, Rebecca Winchester." Bobby introduced

Rebecca smiled as she extended her hand for a handshake. "Hi Mr. and Mrs. Brown. It's a pleasure meeting the both of you."

Adaline, with her captivating beauty, gently pushed her hand away and pulled Rebecca into a warm, tight motherly embrace. Her personality complemented her looks perfectly. "It's an absolute delight to finally meet the beautiful girl my son has been raving about," Adaline said, pulling away from the hug but keeping her hands on Rebecca's arms. "I'm Adaline, and this is my husband, Clark. You're all Bobby has been talking about nonstop since the beach party."

"Mom. Cut it out." Bobby said looking down embarrassed but Rebecca just chuckled

"It's a pleasure to meet you Rebecca. I'm so glad Bobby has found a good girl like you. Please sit down with us. We would love to get to know you." Clark said as he gave Rebecca a gentle side hug out of respect.

The group settled down at the table and placed their dinner orders. Rebecca and Bobby opted for spaghetti with iced tea, while Adaline and Clark chose steak with wine.

"Rebecca, tell us about yourself." Adaline smiled, sipping her wine.

"Well, I'm a senior in high school. I'm originally from Lebanon, Kansas, but I currently reside in Reseda with my father. We're very close, and my uncle also lives in Reseda. Both of them work as mechanics at the local auto shop." Rebecca said

"And what about your mother?" Clark inquired.

"Oh, she passed away last December," Rebecca said.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, darling," Adaline said, placing a motherly hand on Rebecca's. "I'm sorry as well," Clark added.

After the waiter refilled their drink glasses, Clark inquired, "So, what are your plans after school?"

"I would love to be an Art historian. UCLA has a great program for that. I love everything about art. I love studying it. I love the culture that it brings, the whole human experience, just wrapped up into one. Anger, sadness, love, passion, acceptance, history." Rebecca explained with a sparkle in her eyes, and Adaline was impressed

"You have such an extraordinary goal," Adaline smiled.

"Thank you Mrs. Brown." Rebecca said

"Please, call me Adaline," she said, placing a motherly hand on her shoulder. "And call me Clark," Clark replied with a fatherly smile.

Rebecca couldn't help but smile warmly at the couple. They stood out from the other couples at The Country Club. While they exuded poise and sophistication, there was also a sense of relaxation, authenticity, and down-to-earthness about them.

Rebecca glanced across the room and spotted Ali, looking less than thrilled at the table with Johnny and his parents. Rebecca's brow furrowed. Ali's discomfort was clear.

Thirty minutes had elapsed, and the waltzing music filled the room. Rebecca saw Ali dancing gracefully with her father. Clark rose to his feet and extended his hand to Adaline, who accepted it. They made their way to the dance floor. Bobby stood up and held out his hand to Rebecca, who reciprocated the gesture.

"Beautiful, would you like to dance?" Bobby asked

Rebecca smiled and placed her hand in his, leading him to the dance floor. Once they were there, Bobby wrapped his arm around her lower waist. She rested her hand on his shoulder and interlaced their fingers, swaying gently on the dance floor. Their foreheads touched as they swayed, and Adaline and Clark could see the deep love Bobby felt for her.

Bobby and Rebecca danced happily. To both, time just stood still, as they swayed to the music. Nothing else mattered. He had been thinking about the future a lot. He didn't know what the future held, but all he knew, was he didn't want a future without Rebecca in it.

Across the room, Johnny stood frozen. His chest ached as he watched Bobby and Rebecca move in sync, their foreheads pressed together, their lips brushing between sways. The world fell away around them—but for Johnny, it was caving in.

He clenched his jaw, feeling the sting behind his eyes. The way Bobby held her—like he would never let go. The way she laughed, gently whispered to him, touched his chest like she belonged there. Johnny looked down at the floor, trying to will the burn in his chest to go away. But it didn't. It got worse.

"Trouble with Johnny? You two love birds having problems?" Mr. Mills asked Ali.

Ali rolled her eyes before she replied, "Dad, we're not love birds. Hey what time is it?"

"Well, it's about 9:40." Mr. Mills said as he glanced at his watch.

"Um, I gotta go." Ali said

"You have a date?" Mr. Mills asked Ali. "Not that boy from Reseda." he said disapprovingly

"Yeah, he's from Reseda." Ali said, defending Daniel. "He's a nice guy. It's no big deal."

"Honey you've monopolized the best looking man here long enough." Mrs. Mills said to Ali as she swapped partners so Johnny was dancing with Ali

Bobby held Rebecca close to him. "Wonder how this is gonna go?" he asked quietly

Rebecca chuckled and shook her head, then whispered, "He's never going to stop, is he?"

"I would be the same way with you." Bobby said as he caressed her lower back

"Well you'll never have to find out. I'm not going anywhere." Rebecca smiled.

Bobby's heart soared in his chest. Rebecca rested her forehead on his chin, and he gently kissed it. Then, she laid her head on his chest, simply listening to his heartbeat. He rested his chin on her head as she observed the interaction between her best friend and Johnny.

"Hi." Johnny said to Ali.

Ali rolled her eyes in annoyance and mumbled, "Hi."

"Listen I've been thinking, maybe we can call a truce." Johnny said. "Yeah I'm not at war. Excuse me." Ali said, then tried to walk away.

"Could we please finish the dance?" Johnny asked as he tried to stop Ali from leaving

Ali rolled her eyes in irritation, but she didn't want to cause a scene, so she just continued dancing with Johnny anyway. Johnny didn't want to dance with Ali anymore than she wanted to dance with him. The girl he wanted to dance with, was dancing with his best friend.

You're a loser, and you're a shit head. That's why Rebecca chose Bobby over you. That's also why Ali doesn't want you anymore. You're a no good degenerate and lost cause. Those words of Sid resonated through Johnny's head as he turned his head and saw Bobby and Rebecca dancing happily, and even sharing a kiss. He felt his heart shatter, as he wanted to be the one to make her happy. Ali herself saw it in Johnny's eyes, she had figured it out after they pushed Daniel off a cliff, but she just didn't say anything. She knew, each cobra loved her, in their own special way. But Bobby loved her the most.

Johnny's breathing grew unsteady. His vision tunneled. He barely noticed Ali's discomfort anymore. Didn't even care. Not being able to stand anymore, he glanced over Ali's shoulder, and saw Daniel in the kitchen window. That's when he got an idea. Smirking, he brought Ali close, and forced a kiss on her. Ali pulled away from Johnny, shoved him back and screamed at him. "Don't you ever do that to me again!" Ali yelled as she shoved Johnny in the chest

Rebecca and Bobby broke apart from their own kiss, and glanced at Johnny and Ali, then back to each other. A loud crash came from the kitchen, and the kitchen door was wide open. Daniel and a waiter were sprawled amidst broken dishes and splattered spaghetti.

Bobby, Johnny, and everyone else at The Country Club burst into laughter, except for Rebecca, Ali, Adaline, and Clark. Instead of laughing, they exchanged sympathetic glances. Ali and Daniel locked eyes, and Daniel's expression turned hurt.

Daniel scrambled up and ran out. Ali turned to Johnny who was smiling and triumphant, then punched him in the jaw with her right hand and ran after Daniel.

Rebecca rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Bobby, stop laughing."

"Sorry, Bec." Bobby said

"I'll be back." Rebecca said as she gave her boyfriend a gentle kiss

"All right." Bobby smiled

"You're such an asshole." Rebecca said to Johnny and then slapped him. "You just don't know when to stop do you?"

Outside, the air was cool and quiet, a sharp contrast to the chaos of the country club behind her. Rebecca spotted Ali sitting on a bench beneath the soft glow of a lamppost, her shoulders trembling, her wrist cradled tightly in her hand.

Rebecca sat down beside Ali and gently placed a hand on her shoulder. "Ali, are you okay?"

Ali didn't answer—she just turned and threw her arms around her best friend, burying her face into Rebecca's shoulder as the tears flowed freely. She was genuinely hurt and embarrassed. "Becca, that was so humiliating."

Rebecca held her tightly. "I'm so sorry, hon." She pulled back slightly, concern etched across her face as she looked at Ali's wrist. "Is your wrist all right?"

"It's fine," Ali said quickly, brushing it off even though her hand trembled. "I want to tell Daniel that Johnny kissed me."

"I know." Rebecca said. "Don't worry, you'll get to explain. If it makes you feel any better, I slapped him."

They both laughed quietly, but the pain lingered behind Ali's eyes. Then the smile faded again, and she sighed. "I think I'm gonna catch a cab home. Call me later, okay?"

"Okay." Rebecca embraced her again, holding her close. "Be safe going home."

"I will," Ali replied, embracing the brunette before leaving the country club.

Rebecca shook her head in disbelief, sighed and shook her head, turning back toward the country club. Her heels clicked quietly on the pavement as she re-entered the glow of the ballroom.

Adaline and Clark were waiting by their table, concern etched into both of their expressions.

"Rebecca, are you all right?" Clark asked.

"We saw Ali punch Johnny," Adaline added, her tone more concerned than surprised. "Is she all right as well? Does she need a ride home?"

"I'm alright," Rebecca reassured gently. "And Ali is okay—her wrist is sprained, but she's taking a cab home."

"Bec, are you alright?" Bobby asked, stepping forward, worry on his face.

"I'm fine, hon." Rebecca gave him a soft smile. "But it's getting late. I should probably be getting home."

"Bobby will take you home, honey," Adaline said, drawing her into a hug. "I'm so glad I finally got a chance to meet you. You, your father, and your uncle are welcome any time, my darling. I'd love to show you our art collection."

Rebecca smiled and returned the embrace warmly. "I really enjoyed meeting you both. I'd love that—and I know they would too."

"We mean it," Clark said as he gave her a fatherly hug. "Don't be a stranger."

"I won't," Rebecca chuckled.

As Bobby draped his arm around her, leading her toward the exit, Rebecca looked back at the Brown family one more time, a soft warmth filling her chest.

"Well, I think it went well," Bobby said as the valet brought his car around.

"You mean Johnny and Ali, or meeting your parents?" Rebecca asked, arching a brow.

"Meeting Mom and Dad," he said, grinning.

Rebecca snorted. "Listen, I'm sorry I slapped Johnny, but I couldn't help it. He messed with my best friends again. He said he'd stop."

"Hey, I'm not upset with you, Bec." Bobby opened the car door for her. "If anything, it was funny as hell."

Rebecca folded her arms, smirking as she raised a brow. "Oh really?"

"Really."

"Kiss ass." She leaned in, kissed his lips, and slid into the passenger seat.

"Only for you, babe," he said, closing the door behind her.

After driving around for a little while, talking and listening to the radio, Bobby dropped Rebecca off at home and walked her up to the front door.

"I'm really sorry about tonight beautiful, I wanted it to be perfect." Bobby said as he wrapped his arms around her, and gently rested his forehead against her's.

"Hey, it was perfect, because I was with you." Rebecca reassured

Bobby smiled warmly at her, then leaned in to give her a sizzling kiss. "Good night. I love you."

"Goodnight, honey. I love you too." Rebecca smiled as she rested her hand on her boyfriend's cheek. After pulling away, she walked into the house, closed the door and smiled at him as the door was closing.

Dean was halfway through a late-night action movie, popcorn in his lap and a beer in hand. He looked up as his daughter walked in, flushed and glowing.

"So? How did it go?" Dean said

Rebecca smiled then walked to the couch to sit with her father. "Hey dad. So Bobby's parents are great. They're nothing like the people in Encino." she said

"I thought you liked Mr. and Mrs. Mills?" Dean said. "Are they nice to you when you sleepover at Ali's?"

"I do, and yes they're nice, but they're not as down to earth as Bobby's parents are." Rebecca said. "You'd really like them dad."

"I'd like to meet them." Dean said. "Anything else exciting happen?"

"Well, Daniel was supposed to meet Ali out front at 9:30 for their date to Golf N' Stuff. Well, somehow, he snuck in through the kitchen. Johnny was dancing with Ali and he decided he was going to mess with Daniel by kissing Ali. Dad, she got so pissed off that she clocked him, then I slapped him." Rebecca said

"Remind me not to piss you two off." Dean laughed. "But seriously, are you two all right?"

"I'm fine, Ali's wrist is sprained, but I think it will be okay." Rebecca said

The father and daughter continued their conversation for a while longer until Rebecca grew tired. She walk down the hall to do nightly routine. As she settled into bed, she couldn't help but worry about Ali and Daniel.
