CHAPTER ELEVEN

( LYDIA BLAKE )

TWO: UNUSUAL ACTIONS

"i looked at him as a friend until i realized i loved him"

19th october 1994

lydia loved being at home don't get her wrong, and having her friends with her only made it better but as she lay squashed between sharon and elena in her bed she felt like going back to hogwarts. the two girls on either side were out cold and lydia moved carefully over elena so she'd not wake her. she slipped on a pair of daniel's old jogging bottoms and threw on cedric's quidditch jumper before making her way to the kitchen.

she wasn't surprised when she saw her mother by the kettle making three cups of tea, one for her, her father and the third she didn't know. lydia didn't like tea. the strawberry blonde sat down on one of the dining room chairs before yawning into her hand. her mother turning to her with a smile.

"morning, mon bébé" her mother's french accent spoke out, camille blake was a gorgeous lady no question to it. her face was slim, high cheekbones, bright green eyes, long eyelashes, plump but long lips and a bird like nose. lydia had taken a lot of her mother's features and was nearly a mirror image, everything but her eyes and hair she could thank to her mother.

"morning, momie" lydia greeted back, the french word bringing out the long forgotten accent lydia had. it was rare she actually spoke french and when she started it was like she never wanted to stop, it's why she always enjoyed visiting her cousins and grand-mère so much.

"who's that for?" the teenage girl asked as she nodded towards the third cup of tea on the counter, she questioned where her father was but assumed he still lay in be.

before her mother could answer the back door opened and in entered noah blake and cedric diggory, cedric sweating head to toe with mud clutching to his pyjama pants, her father's as well but not as much.

"ah! my munchkin" noah said happily once seeing his daughter sat at the table, the british man walking up to her before placing a kiss on top of her hair which was a similar colour to his own.

"morning, dad" she said smiling before moving a seat over so cedric could sit in the one she was once sat in, the boy panting heavily making lydia look between her dad and the boy with confused eyes.

"i like this one! he's good at quidditch" noah said to camille before lydia and then smiling at cedric, the man picking up the two tea cups and bringing one to cedric before taking a sip from his own.

"i am the captain of my team" cedric said with a laugh making lydia subconsciously smile to herself at the bonding between the two men. her father was never really keen on any of the boys she had ever been interested in, or girls to be completely honest.

"how'd this happen?" she asked gesturing to their pyjama pants which were covered in mud which was beginning to harden. camille pushing noah away from the counter once realising the mud wold rub onto the white cabinets.

"fell off our brooms once it started raining. it's pouring out there" cedric spoke up as he turnt to lydia with a slight frown, the redheaded girl turning to look at the window only now hearing the heavy raindrops.

"guess we'll stay at home today" lydia spoke up turning to cedric then her parents who bot shared a slightly regretful look.

"i have some last minute meetings today" noah started and then camille "and i have to visit your aunt to help fleur and gabrielle get their things ready" she said apologetically.

"oh, alright.." lydia said quite disappointed before picking her own spirits up "anyway i only see them like three times a year, i can come home to you guys whenever i want" she said referring to her parents before she turnt to smile at them.

that was the thing about lydia she had enough optimism to last her a life time, no one would've ever imagined it to dim away as quick as it did. life was a bitch and it liked to harm people who only deserved happiness, lydia blake soon to be one of those people.

――――

cedric had gone to take a shower eventually, her parents gone, elena in the living room, theo and daniel in daniel's room and sharon still in the bedroom. she had been acting quite odd the day before but wouldn't tell lydia or elena what was wrong.

lydia walked into the living room and found elena sitting in front of the fire clutching a book close to her, the redhead walking up behind her before leaning over the chair and speaking directly into her ear.

"what's that?" lydia's voice scaring elena so much the brunette slammed the book shut and let out a small shriek. lydia pulling back well furrowing her eyebrows in confusion throwing her hands up to show her innocence.

"my merlin! don't ever do that again, you, you,-" she's cut off as lydia smiles and takes a seat next to her and also finishing her sentence.

"witch?" her answer making elena whack her with the book she was holding, lydia laughing well holding a pillow up for defence then grabbing the book out of her hands. "what's this?" she asked as it had no cover on it.

elena looked towards the doors making sure no one was coming but gesturing lydia to come closer "they're all my letters" the girl said confusing lydia on why she'd keep letters in a book. "from draco" the girl clarified.

lydia let out a sound of understanding before nodding her head and then asking another question, confusion only continuing to build inside of her "why do you two write letters?" elena smiled at the girls inquisitiveness to their relationship.

"well it started when we didn't want to be seen together, and now we just do it whenever we're thinking of eachother. i usually get one once a week. i even have some in here he said he'd never let the world see but he wanted me to know he wrote it" she smiled. draco wasn't the nicest person but she didn't mind because he was hers and she understood him.

lydia nodded as she took the girls words in and the way elena's face lit up as she spoke of the slytherin and his letters, they really meant a lot to her obviously.

"you and cedric should try it" elena suggested as she took lydia's hand into her own, the redhead tilting her head with a smile.

"me and cedric aren't together" she told elena which the girl rolled her eyes to as if that didn't matter.

"well it's obvious you like each other, do it. trust me, one day you'll back to them and reminisce on these sorts of days"

elena always had a way with words, she always got her way because she just knew what to say. lydia blake was a sucker for elena cooper's puppy dog eyes and eventually gave in. she didn't know what the hell she'd write or if she'd even give cedric the letter but she'd decide when the time was suitable.

――――

the redhead later found herself laying on cedric's bed, the hufflepuff was pacing in front of her as he tried thinking of what they could do.

"how about we watch a film" the boy suggested remembering seeing a dvd player , lydia shrugged not really paying mind to his words and thinking over elena's words.

"ced?" she spoke up making him stop and nod in her direction, his hair was a mess from how much he'd been running his hands through it and he still looked as handsome as ever.

"will you do something for me?" she asked sincerely, the boy becoming confused and going to sit on the bed with her, pulling her legs into his lap so he could face her.

"anything. i'll do anything for you" he spoke as he put everything he'd ever felt for the girl behind his words.

these would be the closest words she'd ever get to an 'i love you' from the boy. because in a few months her life would be flipped and cedric would be gone and she'd be left with the growing sense of regret and unfulfilled longing.

"write me a letter" her words were nowhere what cedric accepted, a small smile taking over his features before he laughed a bit making lydia frown.

"what?" she asked taking his hands into her own, the boy linking their fingers out of habit.

"i thought you were going to tell me you were dying and you wanted me to bury your body in a meadow or something" the more he spoke the more his own words made him laugh.

"i'd never die on you, and you wouldn't die on me. right?" lydia said honestly as she brought his hands to her lap, the boy having stopped laughing now and giving her a gentle smile.

"we can't promise such things, my love" it was painful to admit but it was the bitter truth. death was the only guaranteed thing in life and what better way to accept it then to relish in it.

"promise me, cedric" she repeated as she brought their hands to her chest, her heart beat still steady but at slight moments he could feel the small jolt it'd give showing how scared she was.

the boy only frowned before pushing himself so he was now sat besides her, his arms finding their way around her pulling her into his chest.

"maybe on another day. for now, let's just live" living. a curse hidden in a pretty dress.

a human life was so delicate and also so easy to take away. no matter the amount of authority or power you held everyone would soon fall victim to it. there was no hope for the cursed, but lydia blake had always nursed a small mad hope.

lydia blake would soon be left on earth all alone as her lover floated to the heavens and maybe that's the biggest tragedy at all. he'd never be able to say his goodbye and that let her believe maybe he'd come back, but eventually she grew up and she changed. it may not have happened overnight  like in the books, it took years. it was painful and slow and a bit brutal. but she changed.
