chapter eleven

The dim, cold moonlight of the early morning sky peeked through her window. Casting white shadows along her tanned, naked frame. A light sheet was placed over her body, struggling to keep her decency.

Dakota stirred slightly, her conscious waking up as the sound of rustling fabric and a zipper was heard in the silent room. She peeked her eyes open, her cheek against the bed as she saw the figure of a man, sitting down on her bed with his back to her as he put on his boots. A groggy voice, "Mhm so we're doing this again?" she questioned.

Bradley turned around at the sound of her voice, putting his weight on his elbow as he leaned over to her, "I figured," He smirked, her nipples slightly noticeable through the thin sheet. "Didn't wanna push the limits of our agreement right?" She hummed in agreement as his fingers traced over her bare shoulder.

"I guess," she said as her eyes focused on the fingers running over the warm skin of her shoulder, "Would be strange if we arrived at base together," He smiled slightly as she brought her small hand up to his, playing with his fingers in her soft palm. Bradley's soft gaze watched the smooth features of her face, the small pout that was on her lips.

"You gonna fight me again Mustang? Because I meant what I said that shit was hot." A toothy grin on her face, "If you piss me off as much as you did then I might. Just don't call me a selfish bitch, Bradshaw." He leaned in, their faces inches apart as he inhaled, his breath fanning over her face, "Dully noted. Yet I make no promises." Their breath lingered, "I forgot how beautiful you look like this,"

Her breath hitched in her throat slightly, a small heat spreading across her lower abdomen.

He leaned in, connecting their lips in a soft, sensual kiss. She hummed into his mouth as her hands went up to cradle his jaw, as his rough palm was placed on her cheek, thumb rubbing soothingly against her skin.

Bradley pulled away, leaning his forehead against her own, watching as her eyelashes fluttered against her cheekbone. "I'll see you later Mustang," He smirked lightly, standing up from her bed, heading for the front door as the sound of her hoarse voice echoed through the house, "As long as you don't piss me off, Rooster!"

-

The aviators were sat in a room with a bright view of the taxiway, F-18s lined up along the side, the distant sound of jet engines lightly rumbling the foundation.

Dakota was sat next to Phoenix once more, Rooster placed behind them as Hangman was across the isle.

"Time is your greatest enemy." Maverick's voice said as he walked up to the front of the room. The warm light of the sun shining on his face. Dakota leaned back against the seat, spreading her legs slightly as her left hand was laced with Phoenix's.

The screen behind Maverick changed to a model of the course, "Phase one of the mission will be a low level ingress attacking in two plane teams." He changed the screen, the image of a canyon appearing behind him. "You'll fly through this narrow canyon to your target. Radar guided surface air missiles defend the area," He turned around, gesturing with his hand as a brief look of worry bestowed across his face, "These SAMS, are lethal." He turned back towards the room full of aviators.

She turned to see Rooster next to her, his hands gripping his thighs. He turned his head to her, seeing as her cheeks turned a tint of pink at the sheer sight of the man that made her legs shake last. A smirk tighter on his lips as he looked back forward, his head down as his gaze settled in his lap.

"Don't tell me you guys, you know, fucked?" Phoenix smooth voice whispered in her ear. She turned her head back to the front, watching Maverick talk about the very important mission information that she should be listening to. She leaned in, "I have nothing to say." A quiet groan fell from her lips as she pinched the bridge of her nose.

"But they were designed to protect the skies above, not the canyon below," "That's because the enemy knows no one is insane enough to try an fly below them," Roosters voice interrupted, as he leaned back in his seat, legs spreading. Maverick turned towards him, a smug look upon his features, "That's exactly what I'm gonna train you to do." Rooster sighed, turning his head to stare out the window, an irritated look on his face. "On the day your altitude will be one hundred feet, maximum."

Dakota inhaled, slightly squeezing Phoenix's hand, as she turned to face her, shocked expressions in both of their faces.

"You exceed this altitude," A beeping noise from the television behind him, "You're dead." Her heartrate increased slightly in her chest, "You're airspeed will be six hundred sixty knots, minimum. Time to target; two and a half minutes."

The screen behind him changed to a satellite picture of the enemy's runway, fifth generation fighters, F-14s, and additional aircraft.

"That's because fifth generation fighters wait at an airbase nearby. And a head to head with these planes in your F-18s, you're dead." Phoenix leaned towards Dakota, whispering lowly, "Well this is one hell of a pep talk," They both stifled their laughter quietly. "That's why you need to get in, hit your target, and be gone before these planes even have a chance at catching you."

The somewhat smiles on the two female's faces dropped slowly, their eyebrows furrowing as they listened to Maverick's summary of the mission, "This makes time your greatest enemy."

Dakota turned her head to once again look at him, the sun behind him creating a perfect silhouette of his sharp profile, as he looked at the Captain with anger on his features, "You'll fly around in your nav system, it simulates the canyon; the faster you navegate this canyon the harder it will be to stay under the radar of these enemy SAMS," A simulation of the canyon changed on the screen behind him, "The tighter the turns, the more intensely the force of gravity on your body multiplies, compressing your lungs, forcing the blood from your brain, impairing your judgement and reaction time,"

She released her hand from Phoenix's placing them along her thighs, rubbing them slightly. A nervous habit she picked up at the academy. "So for today's lesson we're gonna take it easy on you, max ceiling in three hundred feet, time to target: three minutes. Good luck. You are dismissed."

The pilots stood up, as quiet chatter echoed through the room as they made their way toward the locker room, picking up their flight gear. Dakota was walking alongside Bob, someone she had become at least acquaintances with, hearing a lot about him from Phoenix, "Can you believe the outline of this mission?" His soft voice came up behind her, a twinge of country laced in it. "I mean, I've known Mav for a long time, so I trust his judgement for this; if he says we needa fly like this then so be it. Ya know?"

He nodded, "Yeah," She crossed her arms in front of her chest, as they continued their walk to the locker rooms; "And plus, Nat's a good pilot, so no need to stress when you fly with her." A small smile tugged at his lips, "That's true, I was sorta scared the first time I flew with her during the first day," She chuckled a bit, "Completely understandable, she can be like a bull in a china closet at times, but overall she's hella good."

Bob laughed slightly as they parted ways. The cool air of the locker room washing over her as she walked in.

Dakota sighed as she got her helmet and walked out of the building, onto the taxiway where the jets were lined up.

The cruel sun of San Diego was beating down on her, causing small beads of sweat along her nose, having her push her aviators up almost every five seconds.

A rough hand wrapped around her wrist, pulling her into the slightly cooler shade that was provided by the jet, which her back was against. The tall figure of Rooster leaning over her, a sight she loved to see– although she'd never verbally admit it. He placed his knee in between her thighs, a tsk falling from her lips, "Damn Rooster what's up with you and trying to fuck me against an F-18?" Her tone teasing as she looked up at him, wrapping her small hands around his biceps; devilish smiles on both of their faces, "Mhm, although that's something I would love to pursue," He leaned their faces closer together as he pressed his knee against her core, heat blossoming in her lower stomach, "Just wanted to see you all flustered one more time today." Bradley smirked, watching as her hand moved her aviators to the top of her head, a light pink trailing along the apples of her cheeks.

"Well I appreciate the offer, Rooster but–" she cut herself off, as she pushed him slightly away from her body, "We have a trailing sequence to completely for a very dangerous detachment." Dakota firmly stated, the corners of her mouth aching as she held back a toothy grin.

Bradley smiled at her, not even caring if she heard him, "You're so cute when you lie Mustang."
