61. (don't) fear the reaper

I stood beside Finn and Clarke amongst an anxious crowd as we awaited word from Abby. News had gotten out about the impending Grounder war, instantly putting people on edge. I had decided that if Bellamy and Octavia weren't back by tonight, I was going looking for them, Grounder war or not.

The crowd quieted as Abby emerged from the Ark, followed by Jaha. I clenched my teeth at the sight of him. I was well aware that who were were up there was not necessarily who we are down here, but I couldn't shake my distaste for him.

Abby began to speak about the threat of the war, but that no decisions had been made yet. She was quickly interrupted by Jaha who claimed that "just to be safe" we needed to pack and prepare to flee. I ignored every word he said. There was no way I was leaving this camp without Bellamy and Octavia, nor my 47 friends in Mount Weather. I was staying here even if it mean facing the Grounders-again.

I was shaken from my thoughts as Clarke's voice rose above the crowd. I looked over at her as she took a step forward, "If we leave here, what happens to our people in Mount Weather?"

Jaha stared back at Clarke, surprised she had challenged him, "As your mother said, that is a very difficult decision to make." When Clarke didn't press any further, Jaha continued, "But the time has come, for each and every one of us to ask; is this how the story of our people ends?"

My blood was boiling as he continued. He acted like he knew what was best for everyone, but he didn't, he never has and it is unlikely he ever will.

Once Jaha was done his ramble, Abby spoke once again. "No decision has been made. Please report to your station supervisor and gather any emergency supplies."

Abby gave a final nod of her head to signal our dismissal. Everyone began to disperse, nervous mutters still floating around camp.

I rolled my eyes as I turned to Finn, "I'm not leaving without our friends."

Finn shook his head, "This is all my fault."

I looked at him with sad eyes, "Finn-"

"If I hadn't shot all those people we wouldn't be at war, I did this." His eyes were glossy as he looked at me, self hatred basically dripping from his every word.

I was at a loss for words, not knowing what to say to my brother at all. I wanted to tell him that he was wrong, that it wasn't all his fault, but iI couldn't form the words. Luckily, I didn't have to.

"Avery."

I spun around to see Bellamy standing behind me, a worried look on his face. I glared at him as I took a step closer, "Where the hell have you been?" I whispered, anger seeping through.

Bellamy shook his head slightly, dismissing my question, "I need you to come with me. Clarke's on her way too, she just went to get the med kit."

I glanced back at Finn who was watching us curiously, "What's going on? Where's Octavia?"

Bellamy grabbed my hand, "She's in the Drop Ship, now let's-"

"Is she okay?" I questioned, refusing to move until I had at least a bit of an idea of what was going on.

Sighing, Bellamy dropped my hand, "She's fine, will you please just come with me. She needs her best friend."

I looked back at Finn once again who gave me a small nod, "Go." he mouthed. I gave him a sad smile as I turned back to Bellamy, allowing him to lead the way. We met up with Clarke at the front gate before making our way back to the place we had once called home.

We were all silent as we made our way through the forest. The memory of mine and Bellamy's kiss resurfaced in my brain as I watched him march slightly ahead of us, turning around every few minutes to make sure we were okay. I vowed to myself right then and there that I was not going to bring it up unless he did.

As we entered the drop ship, I could hear noises on the upper level. Clarke and I shared a looked of confusion. Bellamy didn't say anything as he led us to the ladder. He climbed up first, Clarke followed after him. I brought up the rear, slowly making my way up, careful not to put too much pressure on my leg. As I reached the top of the ladder, Bellamy stuck out his hand. I looked up at him, our eyes meeting for a brief moment before I took a hold of it.

He pulled me up into the upper level, and the minute he did I wish he hadn't. As I stood up, I almost fell back over as a loud yelled ripped through the air. I stared in shock at Lincoln who was chained off to the side of the room, similar to his position when he was held hostage after Finn was stabbed. He looked nothing like the Lincoln Octavia fell in love with. His eyes were red and wild, he was covered in blood and he was angry-very angry.

My eyes were wide as I looked over to Octavia who was sitting against the far wall, tears in her eyes as she stared straight ahead.

"It's okay," Bellamy whispered softly as I slowly shrunk back from Lincoln who was trying to lunge towards us, loud screams emitting from his mouth. "He's been restrained."

Clarke was just as shocked as I was, "I can't believe we're back here again"

Octavia finally spoke, "Can you help him?"

Another scream came from Lincoln as Clarke shook her head, "I don't know."

I took another step back as Clarke slowly began walking towards Lincoln. Bellamy had side stepped so he was in front of me, essentially blocking my view of Clarke and Lincoln, which quite frankly, I was thankful for.

"I knew Mount Weather was controlling the Reapers," Clarke whispered in shock, "I didn't know they were creating them too."

Bellamy took a step towards her, "If they can do that to Lincoln...then what are they doing to our friends?"

---

Octavia had managed to stand up and currently stood beside me, a flashlight in hand. Her shaky hand pointed the light at Lincoln's face as Clarke tried to determine what she could do.

I reached out and took the light from her, giving her a small smile as I held it up. Bellamy stood on the other side of me, a light in his hand as well.

Lincoln lunged at us once again before he stopped, his body shaking as his eyes seemed to roll back into his head. "He's convulsing." Clarke noted, her eyes scrunched slightly as she tried to figure out why.

"What does that mean?" Octavia asked.

Clarke shook her head as she looked Lincoln over, her eyes stopping on his leg. I followed her gaze with the light, noticing that his leg was bloodied.

"What happened to his leg?"

Octavia was staring at Lincoln's leg with her jaw clenched, "I shot him."

I glanced over at her quickly, wishing I could do something to help her.

Bellamy spoke for the first time since Clarke has begun to examine Lincoln, "He's lost a lot of blood."

Clarke remained silent as she began walking towards Lincoln who lunged and growled at her the closer she got.

I readjusted the light in my hands which were wet with sweat from the nerves. "Be careful." I warned.

Pausing just in front of Lincoln, Clarke turned her head to us slightly, "Can you shine the light on his neck?"

Bellamy and I both directed our lights at Lincoln's neck. He turned his head upon the contact of the light in his eyes, in doing so giving Clarke a better view.

She leaned forward a bit, letting out a small grunt, "Needle marks" she confirmed.

"You think he's being drugged?" Bellamy asked.

"Maybe." Clarke answered.

At that moment, Lincoln managed to break one of the restraints from the wall. He lunged at Clarke, pulling her towards him. Panic surged through me as I dropped my light and rushed forward, as did Octavia and Bellamy.

"Lincoln!" Octavia screamed, trying to pry Clarke from his grasp, only to be thrown against the wall.

Before I even had a chance to be any help at all, Bellamy stepped in front of me, shoving me back hard enough to fall backwards onto my back. "Bellamy!" I snapped in anger as I tried to push myself up in a hurry.

"Just stay back, Avery!" he yelled as he began hitting at the arm Lincoln had Clarke grasped in. Lincoln easily overpowered him, he drove his head into Bellamy's which sent the oldest Blake sibling onto the ground beside me.

Lincoln threw Clarke forward as he removed the remaining restraints from his upper body. The four of us began scrambling back as he tried to rush forward, only being stopped by the chains around his legs. He fell onto his stomach, instantly clawing at us.

Bellamy jumped to his feet, grabbing a hold of the electric prod that the guards from the Ark carried. I pushed myself up as I watched him rush at Lincoln who was back on his feet, trying to free himself from the bottom restraints.

As Bellamy tried to tase Lincoln, the bottom restraint finally came free. I watched in horror as Lincoln-or what used to be Lincoln- slammed Bellamy to the ground and began delivering punches to his face.

"Bellamy!" I screamed as I rushed towards them, trying to use all my body weight to tackle Lincoln off of him.

I had no such luck as Lincoln effortlessly sent me back to the ground. I let out a grunt as pain shot through my leg once again, as well as my forehead which I had smacked off of the metal ground. I was still slightly disoriented as Octavia grabbed a large object before whacking Lincoln across the back of the skull with it. After two hits, he was out cold.

I took this chance to pull myself up, hurrying over to Bellamy and Octavia. All you could hear was our heavy breathing as I knelt beside Bellamy. "Are you okay?" I asked, helping him sit up.

He winced as he gave me a slight nod, "I'm okay." he promised, before reaching out to lightly wipe the blood from the cut on my forehead, "Are you?"

I nodded, as I looked down at Lincoln, "Yeah," I whispered, "I'm fine."
