88. azgeda

The ride was fast but quiet. All of us seemingly on edge for what we could potentially find in sector 8.

The only time someone spoke was when Monty yelled out how close we were getting, his eyes trained on the tracking device in his hand.

By the time we arrived, my heart was pounding in my chest. I was terrified that this was all a set up, and we were all walking into our death.

"Relax." Bellamy whispered, placing his hand over mine as the rover came to a stop.

I looked up to him with a tight smile, giving him a small nod as I picked up my gun, following everyone out of the vehicle.

As soon as my feet hit the ground, Bellamy and Octavia were discussing the fact that we were currently on the border of Ice Nation, and that their territories stretched for miles, hence why there was no ice present.

"Good thing we only have to go 200 metres." Monty explained, his eyes locked on the tracking device as he began marching forward.

Bellamy stuck his arm out, causing Monty to stop, "Slow down." he instructed, his eyes scanning the forest. "Remember, rules of engagement are non-lethal force." He adjusted the gun in his hand, his eyes falling to me for a moment.

Bellamy hated me coming along to these things. I knew it made him nervous, but I also knew I was more than capable of handling myself.

"Tight formation on my command. Raven, you stay in the rover." he ordered, turning to look at Raven who had just joined us.

She let out an airy laugh, "Yeah, right."

Octavia sided with Raven, "We need every gun we've got."

I gave Bellamy a look, signalling that I agreed with the other two girls. We had no idea what was about to come out of that forest and we needed to be prepared.

"They're coming." Monty announced, "120 metres"

My heart rate sped up as I stared out into the woods, my hands beginning to sweat as I gripped the gun.

"110."

Monty attempted to take another step forward, but Bellamy pulled him back once again. This time he rose his gun, pointing into the forest as voices filled the air.

Monty shot him a look, "They're our people. What are you doing?" he snapped.

Bellamy looked over at him, "We hope they're our people."

We all took this as our cue to get into position. Octavia unsheathed her sword while the rest of us held up our guns, spreading out.

"On my command." Bellamy ordered.

I stood on the right side of Bellamy, Miller to my other side, as I pointed my gun toward the entrance of the woods. Not even a minute passed when people came into view. However they weren't our people. They were perched on white horses, speaking a language unlike ours.

You could almost hear the anxiety that coursed through all of us at that moment.

"Ice Nation?" Bellamy whispered, his gun still raised.

Octavia nodded as she clenched her jaw, "Yes. White war paint." She then proceeded  to re-sheathed her sword as she raised her arms in the air as surrender, "Stay calm." she instructed our group as she took a small step forward.

I kept my gun raised, ensuring none of them tried anything as they came to a stop in front of us.

One of them men on the horses bit out something in their language, his voice harsh and angry.

"Skaikru!" Octavia replied, leading me to believe he had asked who were were. She then said something else which caused them to mutter amongst themselves.

Octavia didn't turn around as she spoke to us, "They think we're looking for Wanheda."

Bellamy was the first to express our confusion, "Who's that."

"I don't know." she muttered, her voice coming through clenched teeth as one of the Ice Nation men dismounted his horse, making his way toward us.

Bellamy looked at me briefly, "Stay close." he instructed.

I nodded, taking a small step closer to him, my eyes not leaving the Azgeda member.

Monty pulled our eyes to something on the man's belt, "The light." he announced, "That's the beacon."

None of us were willing to make a move, too afraid of the outcome. Well, that is except for Jasper.

He was the only one of us unarmed, none of us trusting him enough to let him have a weapon, so when he began walking forward my heart dropped.

"Get back here!" Bellamy snapped, anger seeping through his words.

Jasper ignored him, continuing to make his way toward the Ice Nation.

"Jasper!" I snapped, sounding like I was scolding a child, quite frankly I was at this point, "Stop!" I ordered, but to no avail. The others in the group relayed similar messages.

Octavia tried to reach out and grab him as he sauntered by her, "Jasper!" she snapped as he pulled out of her grasp.

"It's okay," he muttered, "I've got this."

My heart was in my throat as he got closer. He may not have been armed but he was a threat to them nonetheless.

Fear was present in Bellamy's voice as he spoke to Octavia, "Tell them we observe the Commander's truce. Do it now." He pleaded.

Octavia rushed out the sentence, clearly as worried as the rest of us.

Jasper stopped in front of the man, not even hesitating for a moment as he reached out and grabbed the beacon, "This belongs to us." he mumbled before turning back towards us.

My eyes were wide as the Ice Nation man grabbed Jasper before he could even take two steps, instantly pulling a knife and placing it to Jasper's throat.

All of our guns went up in a millisecond, pointed right at the Ice Nation.

The man yelled something in their language as the rest of his people pointed their arrows at us.

"Let him go!" Bellamy yelled in trigedasleng.

"We can help each other!" Octavia yelled, trying to diffuse the situation.

However, Jasper being Jasper, just had to make things difficult on the rest of us. As we all scrambled to save him, he had the nerve to let out a small laugh.

All of us paused, lowering our guns slightly. The Azgeda man looked down at Jasper, gritting out something I couldn't understand. I understood what he did next however. In once quick movement he ran the blade across Jasper's neck, drawing blood.

That was all it took for the rest of us to start firing. Bellamy shot the man holding Jasper, causing him to fall backwards, meanwhile Raven and I took care of the other two men on the horses.

"Hold your fire!" Bellamy screamed, causing all of us to stop instantly. Our eyes ablaze with adrenaline.

In a split second, the man who had been holding Jasper began to push himself off the ground, a blade in hand.

"Jasper, get down!" Octavia yelled, which caused Jasper to duck. The minute he was out of the way, Octavia flung her sword into the man's chest.

There was no time to relax as Kane's voice came through the radio, calling for Bellamy. I let out a breath as I rushed to Jasper, Octavia right beside me.

"I had him." Jasper grunted, holding his hand over the wound on his neck.

I glared at him as I wrapped my arm around him, Octavia grabbing her sword before doing the same on his other side.

"What the hell were you thinking?" Miller snapped.

Jasper voice was becoming slurred as he spoke, "I got the beacon didn't I?"

Monty looked at the device in his hands, "Yeah, but where did they get it?"

Octavia and I approached the Rover, Jasper in tow.

"He needs to get to medical." I stated as Bellamy explained what had just happened to Kane over the radio.

"Stay still." I snapped at Jasper as I pressed a bandage to his neck from the medical kit that Miller had grabbed.

Bellamy stomped over to us, clearly overwhelmed with what was going on. I hadn't really been paying attention, but I heard something about Kane wanting Bellamy to meet him at Sector 4. I had no idea what he was doing out there, but I had no time to worry about that.

"Get him home!" Bellamy yelled, as he rounded our side of the rover.

Jasper's head bobbed as he continued to lose blood, his eyes beginning to drop, "I'm fine, thanks for asking." he mumbled.

I shot him a look as I continued to wrap a bandage around his neck, securing the wound.

Bellamy ignored Jasper, instead looking to Miller, "Miller, grab one of their horses. Raven since you can't ride you're on the back." He then looked to me, contemplating the order he was about to give me.

"I can ride on my own." I assured, already making my way to one of the white animals.

Bellamy nodded, his face full of uncertainty as he looked to Monty, "Monty, you're with me."

We all jumped into action. I helped Jasper onto the back of Octavia's horse before mounting my own. "Okay," I called, looking to the rest of my friends, "Let's go."
