CHAPTER TEN

(act ii)

REPEATING HISTORY

'family ties / you're undead to me

"Disregard for the past will never do us any good. Without it we cannot know truly who we are." ~ Syd Moore

I was getting reading to meet Bonnie and Tyler at the grill. The founder's party was later tonight, and everything would start to move on quickly. I was putting on mascara when my phone rang.

I walked over to it, picked it up, and read the caller ID. Enzo.

A smile found its way to my face, and I clicked the accept button. His hot British accent rang through my ears.

"Good morning, darling. How are you this fine morning" he asked

"Good morning, my love. All is well in Mystic Falls. I'm good, but I miss you," I told him.

He sighed and said, "I know. I also miss you, but you'll be here soon."

I laughed lowly and replied, "Yes, I will be. Jeremy and Bonnie will be coming as well. I hope that isn't an issue. I thought it's been long enough. You guys need to meet each other."

He hummed while replying softly, "I know I've prolonged it as long as I can, haven't I? That's fine. I want to meet your best friend and your other boyfriend, and they sound lovely."

I moved around as I spoke to him and finished getting ready. I smiled at his response. "We will be there tomorrow sometime. I'm going to teleport us, and it will be faster. I need to be back soon, though, and we won't be able to stay long." I told him.

"That's fine because I might come back with you guys. I've had my fill of traveling, and I don't like that there's drama, and I'm not there to keep you safe." He said with a grumble.

I chuckled at him and told him, "That sounds amazing. I can finally get a new house. I've wanted to move Liz out of this old, memory-ridden place for a while. We'll obviously have our own house."

I put him on speaker, so I could put my shoes on. "I would love to move in with your love. If that's what you're asking," I heard him say.

I laughed again and smiled as I said, "Yes, that's what I'm asking. I want to finally move and have my own space. I also want you to live with me, and it's weird without you."

His deep chuckle ran down my spine as it met my ears. "I know it's been lonely without my savior. God, you make me want to be human. We could have a life together, where we grow old and gray together. Watch our grandkids run around. Watch the sunsets together on that wrap-around porch you want so much." He tells me, and I can't help my imagination run wild.

"I'm sorry," I tell him softly. "You know we can't have a normal human life. I wish I could give you that. You deserve the world; I'm sorry I can't give you that. I'll keep trying and find a way where you and others can be happy."

He sighs softly and says, "No, darling, I'm already happy just being with you. I need nothing else besides you, my angel, my savior. We'll figure something out, and I'm okay with waiting. I've waited decades for happiness. I can wait for a hundred more if you're by my side. You've given me freedom, happiness, and love, and that's all I ever wanted"

I nod even if he can't see me, and I tear up. "God, I love you so fucking much. I'll keep trying, my love. We'll have it all this time." I tell him with a determined look in my eye.

"I know you will. You're a fighter, and you're driven. I'll see you tomorrow, darling. I gotta get the place ready for you and the others. I love you, angel." He tells me.

I nod, and my smile drops, but my voice doesn't stary, "Of course, darling. I'm looking forward to being in your arms. I love you."

He ends the call, and my façade drops, and I finally let myself cry. Cry for the unfairness of this world. The injustice everyone dealt with. Everything they sacrificed for a selfish doppelganger. I cry for the unnecessary deaths. I cry because my father figure is gone. I cry because Enzo will never be human. I cry because Jeremy never got to be happy and have a family. I cry because Bonnie never got what she deserved. I cry for what Caroline faced alone; no one noticed or cared. I cry because Alisha is not here, telling me what I should do. I cry... because I'm alone.

Timeskip ~ Mystic Grill

Bonnie and I walked into the Grill hand in hand. We walked past the Lockwood's eating and talking about the football season. Victoria kept trying to flirt with Tyler, but he ignored her.

We sat in our usual spot and talked about the founder's party.

"Elena is going with Stefan, so I don't want to go alone. Are we going together, or are you taking Jeremey?" Bonnie asked me.

I hummed, looking at the menu. I looked at Bonnie and told her, "Whatever you prefer. I can take Jer, and you can take Tyler, or we can go together. I'm not picky."

She smiled and nodded. "I might go with Tyler then. You go with Jeremy, and we can all go together. How's that."

I smiled and told her, "It's perfect, darling."

Victoria came up to us and grabbed her notepad. "What can I get you guys?" she asked with a fake smile.

"We'll just get a plate of fries. Two cokes, please. Anything else, darling?" I told her.

Bonnie looked up and nodded and told her, "I'll get a chicken salad also. Thanks"

She nodded when she finished writing and walked off to get our meals.

Bonnie turned to me and said, "I'm going to Elena's to get ready. Do you want to come? It will be fun."

"I prefer not to be gracing Elena with my presence. But I might as well as come." I told her, nodding my head.

"She's going with Stefan," she told me.

I frowned and said, "She sure does fast work."

Bonnie choked on a laugh and nodded.

"Are you okay? How have you been since Tanner?" I seriously asked her.

She sighed and responded, "I'm okay. It was just scary. Divination is seriously no joke, and I've never predicted a death before."

I nodded solemnly and told her, "Divination is not to be taken easily. Like Gloria said. Death is complicated to predict, and you can never change it, no matter how hard you try. Death always comes for you in the end, and it's his job."

She nodded sadly, and we sat silently, waiting for our food. Victoria quickly comes over with our food and drinks. We thank her and dig in. I was dipping my fries in sauce and drinking my coke while Bonnie was nibbling at her salad like a cute bunny.

She had a lightbulb moment and asked, "How are you? I never asked. I'm sorry."

"It's alright. I'm fine. Enzo called me today, and I informed him of our arrival." I told her, patting her hand.

"That's good. Are we still leaving tomorrow? I've packed my bag. It's only a couple of days, right?" she asked in rapid order.

"Yes and yes. I'll pick you up tomorrow and well go. We'll spend Halloween there too, so it should be interesting." I told her softly with an excited smile

"You really miss him, huh?" she asked me.

I sipped my coke and replied, "Of course. He's like my other half. It's weird without him"

She nods softly. "I wish I had what you had"

"You will. All will happen in good time. Who knows, maybe you'll fall in love with a suit-wearing vampire," I tell her softly with a mischievous grin on my face.

She looks up at me quickly and asks, "What! What did you see? Tell me!"

I shake my head and innocently eat our fries. She deflates at my behavior and pouts, "You never tell me anything."

"I gave you a once-in-a-lifetime pass on anything, and you asked about Elena. It's not my fault your too nice," I tell her

"I know. I know. I need to be selfish, but Elena's been my best friend since childhood," she tells me firmly.

Her response makes me sigh. "You do, Bonnie. You deserve everything. You need to stop being so nice. You have so much power. You should be selfish once in a while. I just want the best for you," I tell her softly, looking into her glistening eyes.

She nods, holding my hand. "Thank you. You always cheer me up."

I send her a gentle smile.

Timeskip ~ Gilbert Residence

Bonnie and I were sitting next to each other. I watched Elena walk about the kitchen, and Bonnie looked through her bag of cosmetics. They were discussing nail polish colors.

Bonnie was examining two different bottles "Delicate flower or naughty vixen," she asked, looking at me.

"Tough call. Can we mix them?" Elena asked

I just shook my head in disgust. "Why would you mix colors."

Bonnie laughed while Elena huffed at my response.

Bonnie said, "Look at you, getting all pretty for your date. You seem happy-ish."

"I am...ish. Tonight's going to be a good night."

"Why don't we just go get our nails done professionally? I get mine done nearly weekly. I could take you, Bon," I tell her, ignoring Elena.

Bonnie laughs and nods, hugging me. It's the least I could do with Tanner's death on her mind.

While Bonnie and Elena were doing their makeup, I curled Bonnie's hair. Then Elena's phone rang, so she walked over to it and picked it up. "Hello? Hi, Mrs. Lockwood. What do you mean? It is? Are you sure? 'Cause I saw it. Let me check. Mm-hmm. I will find it and bring it. Okay. Bye." She told Mrs. Lockwood.

Bonnie looked worried and asked, "What's wrong?"

Elena ignores her, walks into Jeremy's room, and I walk in after her. He was sitting at his desk with his headphones on. He looked cute then Elena slapped his headphones off. I was annoyed, and Jeremy was confused. He noticed me and smiled, and I gave him one back. Elena scoffed and asked him, "The pocket watch. Where is it?"

Jeremy rolls his eyes and asks, "What watch?"

Elena crossed her arms over her chest and said, "The one you stole from mom's box. Look, Mrs. Lockwood just called me, freaking out. It was on the list, Jeremy. And she can't find it, and she thinks she's the one who lost it."

"Maybe she did," Jeremy shrugged.

"Don't even play that card. Jeremy, you took it. If I go online, am I going to find it on eBay? Is that how you pay for your pot?" Elena asked him with her annoying voice.

Jeremey gets annoyed at her nagging and says, "Screw you." He gets up, grabs the pocket watch from his hiding place, and walks over to her. "I would never sell this, okay?" he tells her angrily.

Elena raises her eyebrow and asks, "Then why did you take it?"

"Because it's supposed to be mine. Dad said it goes to the firstborn son, and his father gave it to him, and now what?" Jeremy tells her animatedly but slaps it into Elena's awaiting hand.

Jeremy sits down, and she says, "And he was going to give it to you."

Jeremy says, "Yeah, he was" he puts his headphones on.

Elena turns to him and says, "Look, Jeremy, it's still yours, okay? Mom promised Mrs. Lockwood. What do you want me to do?"

Jeremy, over her shit, says, "Just take it and get out."

Elena leaves, and I stay. I walk over to him and rub his shoulders, making him lean into my touch. I take his headphones off and turn him around to face me. He sighs while looking up at me, and I place my hands on his cheeks, and I lean in and kiss him.

I pull back and tell him, "I'm sorry; I know it meant a lot to you. Do you need any help getting ready tonight?"

He nods and looks at me gently, and kisses me. "Yeah, I'm not sure what to wear."

I chuckle and look through his closet and pick one of the suits' I brought him earlier this year for a similar occasion. I turn around and place it on the bed.

Elijah would be proud.

"I've got to finish getting ready. I'll see you in a bit. I'm taking you and Bonnie, and she's going with Tyler." I tell him.

He nods and, with a laugh, says, "Okay, I'll see you soon. I can't wait to see you in a dress."

I walk out laughing softly. Bonnie and I finish getting ready.

Timeskip ~ Lockwood Residence ~ The Founder's Party

Jeremy and I were walking hand in hand into the party. Jeremy spun me around as we made it to the door, making me giggle. He turned me into his arms, and I wrapped my arms around his shoulder and ran my hands up his neck, making him shiver.

"Have I told you how amazing you look? Because you look gorgeous." He tells me, making me smile.

"Once or twice," I respond, making him chuckle.

Bonnie and Tyler were behind us, and we all walked in, laughing at something Tyler said.

We were walking around, and I saw Liz, so I dragged Jer to see her.

"Mother, I haven't seen you for a while. How are you?" I asked her softly, wrapping my arms around her.

She's always working, so I never really see her. I didn't fuss about her working; I knew she loved her job. She was doing it to make me a happy future, her words. She didn't need to since I still have so much money from the daylight ring business Bonnie and I did in our earlier years. But she loved being a sheriff. It gave her purpose. We went in for a check-up last year, so we caught her cancer early, and she was in chemo for a bit. She was much healthier than canon because I cared for her since she didn't do it herself. I made her lunch and dinner and made sure she took her meds. Sure I was acting like the parent, but It was the least I could do. I did take over her child's body.

She shook me out of my daze when she replied, "I've been working a lot, honey. I'm good, just busy with all the deaths."

I nodded, squeezed Jeremy's hand, and said, "That makes sense. If you ever need help, I'm here."

She smiled and turned to Jeremy and hugged him also. "How are you, Jer? I haven't seen you around the house lately. How's Jenna?" She asked him,

Jeremy hugged her back and let her go before answering her. "Yeah, I'm good. Care's been helping. Jenna's trying her best, but I think it's getting to her. With uni and taking Care of us, it's a lot." He said with a sad smile.

Liz nodded and patted his back in comfort. "It's hard taking Care of kids. I'm lucky I have Caroline, and she's been the best kid."

I smiled at the comment, and Jeremy chuckled. "She is one of a kind," he said, looking at me.

Timeskip ~ Later tonight

Jeremy and I watched the tennis match between Logan and Jenna. We laughed when she walked away from him. We fist-bumped.

We walked over to Elena and Stefan, who was next to Damon and Tiki. They were reading the first registry, and Tiki dragged Stefan away to the dance floor.

"The Battle of Willow Creek. Confederate soldiers fired on a church with civilians inside." I said, announcing Jeremy and I's presence,

Elena turned around quickly, looking annoyed. I just smiled at her, and Damon rolled his eyes.

"Yes, but They weren't there by accident. They were believed to be union sympathizers. Some of the founders on the confederacy side wanted them rounded up and burned alive. Stefan and Damon had someone they loved very much in that church. And when they went to rescue them, they were shot. Murdered in cold blood," Damon said, melancholy, nodding at me.

"Who was in the church that they wanted to save?" Elena asked curiously.

I stepped up behind her and told her, "A woman, I presume. Doesn't it always come down to the love of a woman?"

She stared at Damon, emotions sizzling in her eyes. She told him, ignoring us, "Look, I'm sorry that you and Stefan have this thing between you, but I can't get in the middle of it, Damon. I just...I hope you two can work it out."

"Dearie, you're already in the middle of it. Just like the other one." I told her, scoffing. Jeremy and I walked away before she could say something.

____________________________

I was walking around looking for the champagne. I saw a butler, walked over, grabbed a flute, and sipped. I turned around and saw Zach, and I walked up to him, sipping.

"Hello, Zach Salvatore." I said.

Zach turned around, looked surprised, and said, "Caroline Forbes, right? Little too young to be drinking champagne, huh?"

"Yes, I'm Caroline. I'm older than I look, Zach." I told him mockingly.

He chuckled and asked, "What can I do for you?"

I dragged my finger up his chest to his neck, making him shiver, and I squeezed his neck quickly. He groaned, about to say something, but I interrupted him before he could. "Shh, dearie. You need to leave. Leave mystic falls. The Salvatore brothers aren't going to protect you. Damon will kill you soon. It's better if you leave and now." I tell him and drop my hand from his neck, making him cough. I turn around and leave.

Later I found Damon and Tiki searching through the collection of antiques. He's looking for Emily's crystal.

A search in vain.

"You're not supposed to touch, Damon," I said coldly, dragging my finger across a wooden table. I pull it up and rub my fingers together, sneering at the dust.

Damon and Tiki are surprised at my presence, and Damon replies, "I'm looking for something that was mine. A significant crystal."

I hummed, "A crystal that isn't actually yours, though. How does a Salvatore get a Bennet talisman in their grubby hands? I do wonder," I tell him.

He rolls his eyes. "It's mine, but where is it" he angrily says, seeing it's not where he put it years ago.

I laugh coldly. "Well, I moved it because it's not yours, and it's Bennett property. Sorry not sorry," I tell him, and I turn to walk away. But he tries to vamp speed at me, making me sigh, and I snap my fingers together and smile at the sound of a broken neck. Tiki screams, but I just roll my eyes and make my hand making her fall asleep and crumble to the floor.

I walk away.

I find the living room, and Bonnie stands at the doorway watching Mrs. Lockwood being a bitch. "Look around. What's missing? The flames, the candles. Why aren't they lit? There are matches in the kitchen."

Bonnie and I say in sync, "Bitch" we look at each other and laugh.

Bonnie looks at the candle, and it lights up. She turns away from the candle, looking at me, and I raise an eyebrow. Making her shrug, but I point my finger behind her. She seems confused, turns back around, sees all the candles lit up, and giggles. She runs into my arms, and I hug her.

Stefan spiked Tiki's glass with vervain, and Damon drank from her, incapacitating him. Stefan locks Damon up – Everything happens like canon regarding Damon and Stefan, besides the fact that Zach packed his shit and left.

Timeskip ~ The Next Day ~ The Gilbert Residence

I was getting ready for the day and brushing my teeth in the bathroom. Then Elena opened the door and looked confused, and I said, "I'm almost done, dearie."

She nodded and said, "Take your time."

She closed the door, and I finished and rinsed my mouth out. I go into Jer's room and stare at him. He's leaning against the headboard and resting on one arm propped behind his head and shirtless. I jump on him and laugh. "Elena saw me."

He chuckles, rolls me over so he's on top of me, and says, "She already knows. It's not that big of a deal."

I scoff and say, "I'm not worried, but I need to talk about it. I've been ignoring Elena's advances."

"She hasn't asked me about it. It's funny how you hate her," Jer says, kissing my neck.

"I'm sorry, I know she's your cousin, but I can't help it," I tell him, groaning.

"She's my sister, okay? It's weird when you call her my cousin even if she is," he tells me, nipping at my skin and making me yelp. He chuckles at my response.

Yes, I told him a couple of years ago Elena is adopted

"Are you ready to leave today?" I ask him.

Jeremy stops and looks at me. "Yeah, I am. I'm kinda worried. What if he doesn't like me? What if he kills me? Are you sure he's okay with me coming?" He asks worriedly.

I laughed at him and pushed some hair out of his face softly. I say, "Everything will be fine. Don't worry, baby. He won't kill you; he's excited to see you. He likes you, okay."

He sighs but nods, asking, "Okay, okay. I'm pretty excited for him too. I've never left Mystic Falls; this will be so cool. Bonnie's coming, right?"

I chuckle at his cuteness. "Yes, Bonnie is coming. It will be fine. We'll spend Halloween there. How exciting"

He smiles at me and nods.

Elena stomps into the kitchen and finds Jenna. She whisper-yells, "Jenna! Are you aware of what's going on upstairs?"

Jenna sips her mug of coffee, nodding, "Uh-huh."

Elena says, "And you have no objection?"

Jenna laughs. "He could be craftier about it, at least try to sneak her in and out. I don't mind their dating, and this isn't new. Oh, and just so you know, I won't be home for dinner."

Timeskip ~ Sexy Suds Car Wash

We had finished setting up the car wash fundraiser, and the sun shone.

It's a good day.

That was until Elena came over to me. Cue eye roll. She was still in her clothes while everyone, including me, was in bikinis since we were washing cars.

Before she could say anything, I told her, "Elena, dearie. Why are you still in your clothes? Also, remember we are not running a charity, so don't do freebies, pay later or offer discounts, okay? This is going towards an important cause, and you best remember that."

Elena responded, "I'll change. Of course."

Stefan walked up to us and greeted us. "Hello, Stefan. You realize the event is called sexy suds, and you'll be washing cars." With that, I walked away, flicking my hair.

But I heard some of their conservation. Elena asked Stefan, "Did we just get schooled?"

Stefan responded, "And judged, yeah."

I was too far away to hear anything else, not as I cared.

I walked over to Bonnie and the Mundane, who was staring at Stefan and Elena. Bonnie said, "Tiki. This one's yours," pointing at a red car.

Tiki scoffs, "Why do I always get the homely ones? Just to be clear, your car's a P.O.S. We can wash it, but it's still a P.O.S."

I narrowed my eyes and told her, "Tiki, watch your tone. Don't be such a bitch"

Tiki's confidence deflated, and she nodded her head meekly and cleaned the car.

____________________________

Timeskip ~ 30 minutes

I was cleaning a car with Bonnie when I noticed Tiki was walking off in a daze.

He's probably using her like he used cannon Caroline.

Elena was talking to the old man from the Grill who saw Stefan when he was a child. Elena begins connecting the dots.

Timeskip ~ Later that Day

I grabbed the last things I needed to pack at my house when my phone rang. It was Bonnie, and she was letting me know she was ready. We were all heading to NOLA for a few days to see Enzo and get away.

Tiki freed Damon earlier today, and he didn't kill Zach since he left earlier. Elena had also figured out Stefan's status as a vampire and was slowly freaking out. Vicki was on her way to becoming a vampire.

Everything was slowly coming together.
