The boutique was alive with soft music, the hum of quiet conversation, and the occasional rustling of fabric as customers browsed the racks. Arizona had never been the type to enjoy shopping-too many choices, too much effort-but with graduation in just two days, she had no choice but to find something decent to wear.

Her mom had already made it painfully clear that jeans and a T-shirt weren't going to cut it.

"You're not walking across that stage looking like you just rolled out of bed, Arizona," her mom had said with a pointed look.

So here she was, flipping through dresses, mildly irritated and bored out of her mind, while her best friend, Dylan, sat dramatically slouched in a plush chair near the fitting rooms, scrolling on his phone.

"This is actual torture," Dylan groaned, tossing his head back. "Why did I let you drag me here?"

Arizona smirked as she pulled a light blue dress from the rack, holding it up in front of her. "Because you love me."

Dylan exhaled dramatically, locking his phone and leaning forward. "Yeah, yeah. Unfortunately."

She grinned, turning the dress in her hands. It was simple but elegant, fitted at the top with a flowy skirt that hit just above the knees. It wasn't overly fancy, but it wasn't something she'd normally wear either.

"What about this one?" she asked, holding it up for Dylan to see.

Dylan glanced up, his usual look of bored annoyance quickly shifting into something else. His eyebrows lifted slightly, and he actually sat up straighter.

"Oh, damn," he muttered.

Arizona narrowed her eyes. "What?"

Dylan smirked. "You actually look good."

She rolled her eyes, but a small smirk tugged at her lips. "Shocking, I know."

Dylan nodded. "Yeah. I almost didn't recognize you."

Arizona lightly smacked his arm with the dress, shaking her head as she turned back toward the fitting room. "You're such an ass."

"You love me," Dylan shot back, mirroring her earlier words.

She didn't respond-just shot him a smirk before disappearing behind the dressing room curtain.

-

A few minutes later, Arizona stepped out in the dress, smoothing her hands down the fabric.

Dylan looked her up and down, nodding in approval. "Alright, alright. I'll admit it-you actually clean up nice."

"Thanks, I guess," she said, turning slightly in the mirror.

Dylan leaned back again, stretching his arms over the back of the chair. "So," he started, "are you excited?"

Arizona raised a brow, meeting his eyes in the mirror. "For graduation?"

Dylan shook his head. "No. For Okinawa."

At that, Arizona paused, the question settling over her.

Okinawa.

In just one month, she and Sam were leaving-for an entire year. It wasn't just a short trip or a vacation. It was a full-on new chapter.

She exhaled, tilting her head slightly. "Yeah, I guess. It'll be... different."

Dylan scoffed. "Understatement of the year."

Arizona turned to face him, crossing her arms. "What? You don't think I can handle it?"

Dylan gave her a flat look. "Please. You could handle anything. That's not what I'm worried about."

There was a weight behind his words-one that made Arizona's chest tighten.

"You're worried?" she asked, her voice quieter than before.

Dylan shrugged, looking down at his hands. "I mean... yeah. You and Sam are leaving for a whole year. What am I supposed to do while you guys are off training with karate masters and having the time of your lives?"

Arizona smirked, trying to lighten the mood. "Cry yourself to sleep, probably."

Dylan didn't even blink. "Obviously."

That actually made her laugh. "Okay, drama queen." She nudged his leg with her foot. "You'll be fine. You've got Eli and Demetri. And Sam's only gone for a year, not forever."

Dylan sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Yeah, yeah. I know. It's just... weird, you know?"

Arizona's smirk faded slightly.

Yeah. She knew.

Leaving for a year meant leaving behind everything. Her friends. Her family. Miguel. Dylan.

She was excited-so, so excited. But there was a part of her, buried deep down, that was terrified.

Dylan must've seen something shift in her expression, because he nudged her lightly. "Hey. It's gonna be good for you."

Arizona nodded, swallowing down the sudden lump in her throat. "Yeah. I know."

Dylan forced a smirk. "And, you know, I'll send you a bunch of really annoying texts while you're gone."

Arizona grinned. "I'd expect nothing less."

Dylan chuckled, then nudged her again. "Now, hurry up and buy the damn dress so we can get out of here."

Arizona rolled her eyes but smiled, heading for the register.

Arizona pushed open the door to her apartment, kicking it shut behind her as she dropped her bag onto the floor. She was exhausted from shopping all day with Dylan, and all she wanted to do was flop onto her bed and scroll mindlessly on her phone for the rest of the night.

But as she stepped into the living room, her exhaustion was immediately replaced with confusion.

Sitting on the couch, totally at home, was Miguel-controller in hand, eyes glued to the TV screen. Next to him was Diego, her little brother, who was concentrating hard as he button-mashed his way through some kind of fighting game.

Arizona blinked, caught completely off guard.

"Uh... what the hell are you doing here?" she asked, crossing her arms.

Miguel paused the game and turned, a boyish grin spreading across his face. "Hey, babe."

Diego looked up, barely acknowledging her. "Oh, hey, Arizona," he muttered before immediately focusing back on the game.

Arizona's brows furrowed. Miguel dropping by unannounced wasn't weird-he'd done it plenty of times before. But something about tonight felt... off.

"You okay?" she asked, eyeing him carefully.

Miguel's grin didn't falter, but there was something in his eyes-like he was holding something back.

"Yeah," he said quickly. Too quickly.

Arizona gave him a look. "Uh-huh. That wasn't convincing at all."

Miguel laughed, rubbing the back of his neck. "I swear I'm fine." Then he glanced at Diego, who was still furiously mashing buttons, and tilted his head toward the hallway. "Can we talk? Alone?"

Arizona's stomach tightened.

Oh, god. Was he breaking up with her?

No, no, that didn't make sense. Miguel wasn't acting sad or weirdly distant. If anything, he looked like he was about to explode with excitement.

Still, the uneasiness didn't leave her.

"Diego, go to your room," Arizona said, still watching Miguel.

Diego groaned loudly, flopping back against the couch. "Why? I was winning!"

Miguel snorted. "Dude, you were literally losing."

Diego glared at him, offended. "Yeah, well-it was a comeback in progress!"

Arizona rolled her eyes. "Just go, Diego."

With a dramatic sigh, Diego paused the game and grabbed his controller. "Fine. But if I hear any kissing noises, I'm coming back out here to throw up on the floor."

Miguel laughed as Diego stomped off down the hallway.

Arizona, however, was too focused on Miguel to laugh. She crossed her arms. "Alright, spill. What's going on?"

Miguel's grin widened as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper. He handed it to her, watching her expectantly.

Arizona hesitated for a second before unfolding it. Her eyes scanned the words, and immediately, they widened.

"Miguel, this is-" She gasped, looking up at him. "You got valedictorian?!"

Miguel nodded, beaming. "Yeah. Just found out today."

Arizona couldn't even find the words. Valedictorian. Out of everyone in their entire class-Miguel had come out on top.

She had never been the sentimental, mushy-gushy type, but she was so damn proud that she actually felt her eyes sting.

Without thinking, she lunged forward and kissed him-hard.

Miguel laughed against her lips, wrapping his arms around her as he stumbled back slightly from the force of it.

"I'm so proud of you," she murmured, grinning as she pulled back just enough to see his face.

Miguel brushed a strand of hair from her cheek, his brown eyes soft as he gazed at her. "Thanks, babe."

Arizona shook her head, still in awe. "I can't believe I'm dating a valedictorian. My parents are gonna rub this in my face forever."

Miguel laughed, leaning in to kiss her again.

But before their lips could touch, they heard it-

A loud, exaggerated gagging noise from the hallway.

Arizona froze, eyes snapping open. Miguel sighed, resting his forehead against hers. "I forgot he was still here."

Arizona whipped around to see Diego peeking out from behind the wall, his face twisted in disgust.

"Ugh, gross," Diego complained, shaking his head dramatically. "You guys are so nasty."

Arizona narrowed her eyes. "Were you eavesdropping?!"

Diego grinned mischievously. "Nooo..."

Miguel smirked, backing away slightly. "I'll just... move out of the way now."

Before Arizona could react, Diego took off running.

"You little-" Arizona bolted after him, chasing him through the apartment.

Diego was fast, dodging furniture like a pro, but Arizona was faster.

"I'm telling Mom!" Diego yelled between laughs as he sprinted into his room.

Arizona slammed against the door, pounding on it. "You better hope I don't get in there, Diego!"

Miguel, now leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, just watched in amusement.

Arizona turned to look at him, glaring playfully. "You think this is funny?"

Miguel chuckled, walking over and wrapping his arms around her again. "A little."

Arizona huffed, but her lips betrayed her by tugging into a smirk.

"Whatever, valedictorian," she muttered, pulling him back in for another kiss.

The morning light streamed through Arizona's bedroom window, casting a warm, golden glow over the soft blue dress laid out on her bed. It was graduation day. The culmination of years of struggle, heartbreak, and perseverance. She exhaled slowly, running her fingers over the fabric, feeling its smooth texture beneath her fingertips. It was a simple yet beautiful dress, one she had chosen just days ago while shopping with Dylan. Light pastel blue, soft and flowing, with delicate straps that rested gently on her shoulders. It made her feel... hopeful. Like she was stepping into something new, something better.

With careful movements, she slipped the dress over her head, adjusting it until it fit just right. She turned toward the mirror, smoothing out the material as she took in her reflection. It was surreal. Standing there in that dress, looking back at herself, she saw someone different from the girl she had been a few years ago. She had been broken, lost, drowning in things she couldn't control. But now? Now she was standing tall, about to walk across that stage with her head held high.

Her graduation gown hung on the back of her desk chair, its crisp black fabric almost daunting in its significance. She picked it up, slipping her arms through the wide sleeves, fastening it at the front. The golden trim shimmered slightly in the morning light, a reminder that she had made it. She had fought for this moment, and she had won.

Just as she was fastening her cap in place, a gentle knock came at the door. Before she could answer, it creaked open, and her mother, Daniela, stepped inside.

Arizona turned, immediately noticing the way Daniela's eyes softened as they landed on her. There was something different about her mom now-something lighter, steadier. Her once weary face held a quiet confidence, a kind of peace Arizona hadn't seen in years.

Daniela took a slow step forward, then another, as if she wasn't sure whether she was allowed to step into this moment. Her lips parted, her voice soft but filled with emotion. "Wow," she whispered, her eyes shining. "You look beautiful, sweetheart."

Arizona felt a lump rise in her throat at the words. It had been a long time since her mom had looked at her like this. Like she was proud.

"Thanks, Mom," Arizona said, smiling softly.

Daniela exhaled, glancing down for a moment before looking back up. "I wanted to talk to you before we left," she admitted, folding her hands together. "I just... I need to tell you how proud I am of you, Arizona. You've come so far, and I know it wasn't easy."

Arizona felt her breath hitch slightly. She had spent so many years waiting for her mother to truly see her, to acknowledge everything she had been through. And now, here she was, standing before her, saying the very words Arizona had longed to hear.

"I also need to say I'm sorry," Daniela continued, her voice thick with emotion. "For all the times I wasn't there when you needed me. For disappearing into my own struggles when you were just trying to survive yours. I let you down, and I will always regret that."

Arizona swallowed hard, her chest tightening. The memories of the nights she had spent alone, the times she had begged for her mother's presence only to be met with absence, all came rushing back. But at the same time, standing here now, looking at the woman before her-the woman who had fought her own demons to get to this place-Arizona knew she didn't want to hold onto the pain anymore.

"Mom..." she started, her voice trembling. "I won't lie and say it didn't hurt. Because it did. A lot." She took a breath, willing herself to stay steady. "But I also know that you've been trying. And that means everything to me."

Daniela's eyes shimmered with unshed tears as she took another step forward, hesitating only for a moment before reaching out. Arizona didn't hesitate-she stepped into her mother's arms, wrapping her tightly in an embrace. Daniela's arms held her close, warm and solid, and for the first time in a long time, Arizona felt like maybe-just maybe-things could be okay between them.

They stayed like that for a long moment, neither one speaking, just holding onto each other.

Finally, Daniela pulled back, tucking a strand of Arizona's hair behind her ear like she used to when Arizona was little. "I know I can't change the past," she said, her voice thick with emotion. "But I promise you, I am here now. And I'm not going anywhere."

Arizona felt the sting of tears behind her eyes but blinked them away, nodding as she squeezed her mom's hand. "That's all I ever wanted."

Daniela smiled, pressing a soft kiss to her daughter's forehead. "Come on," she said with a small laugh. "Let's get you to graduation. You've got a whole future ahead of you."

Arizona smiled back, and for the first time in a long time, it felt real. With a deep breath, she grabbed her cap and tassel, giving herself one last look in the mirror.

This was it. A new chapter. And for the first time, she wasn't scared.

She was ready.

The warm afternoon sun bathed the outdoor stadium in a golden glow, a soft breeze rustling through the banners that read "Class of 2020 - Congratulations, Graduates!" The rows of students in sleek black caps and gowns stretched across the field, their murmurs filling the air with a mix of nervous excitement and anticipation. Arizona sat in the front row, her hands folded in her lap, heart pounding against her ribs as she waited for her name to be called.

She could hear the crowd shifting behind her-the laughter, the cheers, the occasional honking of air horns. Somewhere in that sea of faces were her people. Her family. Her mom, Daniela, sitting beside Arizona's grandma, Alba, probably clutching a tissue already. Diego, her little brother, who was likely fidgeting in his seat, impatiently waiting for this whole thing to be over. And then there was Miguel's family-Carmen, his grandmother Yaya, his stepdad Johnny, and, of course, Laura, his baby sister. Arizona imagined Johnny trying to balance her in his arms while pretending not to be emotional about all of this.

A voice crackled through the speakers, pulling her from her thoughts.

"Arizona Alvarez."

A loud cheer erupted from the audience, and Arizona felt her breath catch as she rose from her seat. She kept her posture tall, her head high, exuding confidence even as her stomach twisted with nerves. This was it. She had made it.

Stepping onto the stage, she shook hands with the principal, who handed her the diploma with a firm nod. As she held the crisp paper in her hands, a wave of emotions hit her all at once-relief, pride, disbelief. It was surreal.

Turning toward the crowd, she brought her fingers to her lips and blew a kiss toward her family. Daniela wiped at her eyes, Alba clapped proudly, and Diego waved both arms over his head, grinning. Arizona turned slightly, catching Carmen's soft smile, Yaya's proud gaze, Johnny's approving nod, and little Laura clapping her tiny hands, giggling in her stepdad's arms.

Arizona gave them a small wave before stepping off the stage and returning to her seat. She could finally breathe.

One by one, the names continued.

"Demetri Alexopolous."

Arizona turned her head as Demetri strode onto the stage, adjusting his glasses as he accepted his diploma. From somewhere in the crowd, a loud, "THAT'S MY BOY!" echoed-undoubtedly from Eli. Arizona couldn't help but smile.

"Miguel Diaz."

The crowd roared louder than before. Arizona's heart swelled with pride as she watched Miguel step onto the stage, shaking hands before receiving his diploma. He was grinning, that radiant, dimpled smile of his, and when he turned to look at her before walking off the stage, Arizona blew him a teasing kiss. He winked in response.

"Robby Keene."

Robby walked up with his usual effortless cool, his shoulders squared as he grabbed his diploma. There were cheers, but Arizona could tell he wasn't the type to revel in the attention. He simply nodded, then walked back to his seat without much of a fuss.

"Samantha LaRusso."

Sam's parents, Amanda and Daniel, cheered proudly from the crowd as she stepped onto the stage, her curls bouncing with every step. She beamed as she accepted her diploma, then sent Arizona a knowing smile before returning to her seat.

"Eli Moskowitz."

The moment Eli's name was called, the stadium practically shook from the amount of noise. Hawk had built quite the reputation, and his fan club-Moon, Demetri, and even some underclassmen-made sure everyone knew it. Arizona smirked as Eli fist-bumped the principal before strutting off the stage like he had just won a championship.

"Tory Nichols."

Tory walked onto the stage, her expression unreadable. There was applause, but it wasn't as loud as some of the others. Still, Arizona could tell that, despite everything, this moment meant a lot to her.

"Dylan Smith."

Dylan shot Arizona a thumbs-up as he walked past her to the stage. She returned it with a grin.

"Moon Taylor."

Moon practically glided onto the stage, her natural grace making the entire moment seem almost ethereal.

"Yasmine Voila."

Yasmine flicked her hair back as she confidently walked across the stage, waving like she was royalty. Arizona rolled her eyes but couldn't help smirking.

Then, finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for.

"And now, our valedictorian, Miguel Diaz, will give his speech."

The crowd erupted once more as Miguel stood and walked back up the stage, unfolding a piece of paper in his hands. He adjusted the microphone, clearing his throat before speaking.

"When I first moved here, I was the new kid. I was bullied, I had no confidence, and I didn't know where I fit in. But then, I met someone who changed my life-my stepdad, Johnny Lawrence. He introduced me to karate, and for the first time, I felt like I had something that was mine. Something that made me strong."

Miguel scanned the audience, his eyes finding Johnny, who gave him a small nod of approval.

"But I won't lie and say I didn't lose myself along the way. I did. I got caught up in winning, in proving myself. And for a while, I thought I had lost everything-including the one person who had always been there for me."

Arizona's breath hitched as Miguel's gaze landed on her.

"Arizona Alvarez."

Whispers rippled through the graduates as Miguel continued.

"We went through a lot together. We lost each other for a while. But we always found our way back. And standing here today, I know that no matter where life takes us, she'll always be the one for me."

Arizona felt her heart swell, warmth spreading through her chest.

Miguel then looked back at Johnny.

"When I got hurt, I thought my life was over. I thought I'd never walk again, never do karate again. But Johnny never gave up on me. He pushed me, he fought for me, and because of him, I got back on my feet."

He took a breath, then turned slightly, looking at Robby.

"And to Robby Keene... I know we didn't start off as friends. Hell, we weren't even close to being friends. But somehow, we became brothers. And I'm glad we don't hate each other anymore."

Robby smirked slightly, nodding in silent agreement.

Finally, Miguel's gaze softened as he found Arizona again.

"Arizona, I love you. And I can't wait to be with you for the rest of our lives."

Arizona's breath caught in her throat, her chest tightening as Miguel's words settled deep inside her. She bit her lip, a smile threatening to break free as the entire crowd reacted-cheers, gasps, and laughter filling the air.

Miguel's eyes sparkled with emotion as he turned back to the microphone.

"And finally, to the most important new addition to my family-Laura Lawrence, my baby sister. I love you, and I will always be there for you."

The crowd erupted into applause as Miguel folded his speech and stepped back, his dimples on full display.

The principal returned to the mic, beaming.

"Graduates, you may now toss your caps!"

The air filled with the flurry of black caps soaring into the sky, cheers and laughter echoing throughout the stadium. Arizona turned to Miguel, throwing her arms around his neck, pulling him in for a deep, celebratory kiss.

She had never been prouder.

The moment the ceremony ended, the graduates spilled onto the open field, weaving through the sea of proud parents, siblings, and friends. Laughter, cheers, and excited chatter filled the warm afternoon air as everyone searched for their loved ones.

Arizona barely had time to process everything that had just happened. The diploma clutched in her hand, the weight of Miguel's words in his speech still lingering in her chest, the caps that had just rained down from the sky-it all felt surreal.

Then, she spotted them.

Her mom, Daniela, her grandma, Alba, and Diego were standing a few feet away, searching for her in the crowd. Without thinking, Arizona rushed toward them.

"Mija!" Daniela cried, her arms open wide.

Arizona practically launched herself into her mother's embrace, squeezing her tight. She felt her mom's body shake slightly, heard the quiet sniffles in her ear. Arizona clung to her, savoring the warmth, the love, the pride radiating from her mother.

"I'm so proud of you," Daniela whispered, pulling back just enough to cup Arizona's face in her hands. Her eyes shimmered with emotion. "You've come so far, and I know your dad-" She hesitated for a second, then took a breath. "He would've been proud, too."

Arizona swallowed the lump in her throat and nodded. "I know."

Then, a second pair of arms wrapped around her from the side, and she turned to find Diego grinning up at her.

"You did it, Ari!" he said, squeezing her waist tightly. "I told you you'd be the coolest graduate here."

Arizona laughed, ruffling his hair. "Obviously."

Grandma Alba, always composed, dabbed at her eyes with a handkerchief before pulling Arizona into a hug. "You are the first Alvarez girl to wear that gown. Your abuelo would be smiling from the heavens right now."

Arizona felt a deep warmth in her chest at that, holding onto her grandmother a little longer.

The moment was perfect. But then-

"Ari!"

She turned at the sound of her name just as Miguel, Robby, Johnny, and Carmen approached. Miguel's eyes were locked on her, his expression unreadable yet filled with something intense, something deep. Robby trailed beside him, hands stuffed in his pockets, while Johnny and Carmen stood just behind them, both smiling knowingly.

Arizona furrowed her brows in confusion.

Before she could question anything, Dylan suddenly appeared from the side, walking toward them with Sam beside him, their hands clasped tightly together. Sam's face was practically glowing with excitement, her grip on Dylan's hand visibly firm as she looked between Miguel and Arizona.

"Okay, what is going on?" Arizona asked, glancing around at all of them. "Why are you all walking over like you're part of some intervention?"

There was a beat of silence. Then Miguel exhaled and grabbed Arizona's hand.

"Come with me," he murmured, gently tugging her away from the group.

Arizona allowed him to pull her aside, her pulse picking up speed. She glanced over her shoulder to see Sam practically bouncing on her heels, Carmen wiping at her eyes, and Johnny giving Miguel a firm nod. Diego was watching with curious interest, whispering something to Daniela.

Miguel stopped once they were a good distance away, just out of earshot from everyone else. He turned to face her fully, his hands now holding hers.

"Arizona," he began, his voice softer now. "I meant everything I said in my speech. Every single word."

Arizona blinked, her heart thudding.

"I don't care that you're going to Okinawa for a year," he continued, his grip on her hands tightening slightly. "I don't care how many miles are between us, or how long we have to be apart. I know people always say long-distance is hard, that it never works out-but that's not us. We always find our way back to each other."

Arizona swallowed, her breath hitching. "Miguel..."

"I love you," he said, his voice firm, unwavering. "I've loved you since the first time I saw you. And I want to be with you forever, no matter where life takes us."

Arizona felt like the air had been sucked from her lungs. The world around them faded, the distant cheers and chatter of graduates becoming nothing more than background noise.

Then Miguel slowly let go of one of her hands and-

Arizona gasped.

Because he was lowering himself onto one knee.

Right there, in the middle of their graduation.

Her entire body froze, her heart practically slamming against her ribs as Miguel pulled out a small velvet box from his pocket. He opened it, revealing a simple yet stunning ring-a silver band with a small but dazzling diamond.

"I know we're young, and I know we still have so much ahead of us," Miguel said, looking up at her with those deep brown eyes that had always made her weak in the knees. "But I don't need to wait years to know that you're the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. So... Arizona Alvarez, will you marry me?"

Arizona's breath caught in her throat, her hands flying to her mouth as tears stung at her eyes. The overwhelming rush of emotions-shock, joy, love-hit her all at once.

She could feel everyone's eyes on them.

The silence stretched for a moment. And then-

"Yes," she whispered, her voice trembling. Then, louder, stronger-"Yes! Miguel, yes!"

A collective cheer erupted from the crowd behind them as Miguel's face broke into the biggest, happiest grin she had ever seen. He quickly slipped the ring onto her finger before standing, and the second he was upright, Arizona threw her arms around his neck, pulling him into the most passionate kiss of her life.

The world melted away.

It was just the two of them, wrapped in each other, breathing each other in, feeling every ounce of love they had for one another in that moment.

When they finally broke apart, Miguel leaned his forehead against hers, his hands still holding onto her waist.

"You're stuck with me now," he murmured, smirking.

Arizona laughed, her eyes still glistening. "That was never in question."

Behind them, Sam let out an excited squeal, practically bouncing in place. Carmen and Daniela were both crying, Johnny had a proud smirk on his face, and Robby... Robby was shaking his head with a smirk, clearly amused.

And Diego-Arizona's little brother, the menace-crossed his arms and said, loud enough for everyone to hear, "Does this mean I get to be the best man?"

Everyone burst into laughter. Arizona turned, narrowing her eyes playfully. "No, it means I get to chase you again."

Diego took one look at the way she cracked her knuckles and bolted.

Arizona groaned before breaking into a sprint after him, her graduation gown billowing behind her, the ring on her finger glinting in the sunlight.

And for the first time in a long time, everything felt perfect.
