Chapter Ten

Kristopher

I was finding it hard to sleep, I was finding it hard to do anything.

Anytime I shut my eyes I see Camille.

Camille had done nothing wrong to me. It wouldn't have killed me to pick her calls, maybe she would have still been alive. Maybe the child would have still been alive.

I wasn't positive it was my child but there was a possibility. I dug my face into my palm and groaned in frustration.

My child.

****

I lay on the bed with both my hands behind my head and my legs crossed. I couldn't get Camille out of my head. I was thinking of all the possible ways I could prevent her death but I couldn't turn back the hands of time instead I was left in regret.

Regret.

I hated that feeling, I hated it so much. It was the worst feeling someone could have. Knowing they could prevent something but didn't.

I shut my eyes slowly and a picture of the bloody Camille flashed into my head.

I immediately sat up, my breath came in small pants. I couldn't continue staying up here filling like shit. I needed a drink, something cold.

I left the room going down the stairs, maybe I could drown myself in gin or something.

I pulled a canned vodka from the refrigerator and took a gulp. It somehow refreshed me, being chilled and still burning down my throat.

I leaned back on the wall and sighed. I had been so stressed of late. My eyes shut as I sighed again.

Still leaning on the wall I began to hear distant voices. My eyes shut open as I groaned walking towards the sitting room. No one could break into the house. Simone made that impossible.

I rubbed down my face in frustration as another groan escaped my lips as I stared at Micah.

I had forgotten all about her, I thought she'd have gone home by now. She sat on my sofa, cuddled up watching a movie on my Television.

"What are you still doing here?" I
groaned out with folded arms. " The storm stopped almost an hour ago."

Micah who seemed startled by my voice turned slowly.

" It's so late at night, I can't go back now." She laughed nervously.

"That's not my problem." I shrugged at her.

Her nervous smile immediately turned into a frown.
" I'll be gone first thing in the morning." She assured but I shook my head.

"So, why are you watching a movie instead of being asleep?"

It was her turn groan. " There must be a router here. There's free wifi everywhere. I got the Netflix app on my phone and connected it to your TV. This is a once in a lifetime thing."

I glanced at the television still playing and then her. "Action?" My brows rose.

"Yeah." She shrugged. "You don't like action?"

I hated watching movies, it was a waste of time and braincells, I'd rather read a book. Besides I never had time for movies.

"Girls don't like Action."

She frowned at my assumption.
"I do and I'm a lady."

"Are you?" I scoffed sizing her top to bottom.

She smirked a little and leaned closer pressing her hand to the right side of my chest. "Want me to show you?"

My eyes widened slightly as I stared down at her hand and then her face which was way to close to mine. Micah could be this courageous? Of course she could, she was the same girl who had bet her family's life time savings and more on a bet I know she couldn't win.

My full attention is brought back to her as she erupts in laughter, occasionally snorting too.

"You should have seen your face. Priceless." She says in the midst of laughter.

I scoff, removing her hand from my chest.

"You are disgusting." I scrunch my nose as I hear her snort.

"My point is," her laughter dies down. "Don't stereotype girls based on what you've heard. Different people like different things."

"Now," she climbs back into the sofa as I give her a dirty look for stepping on my sofa.

"You need to watch this movie it's awesome. I've gone 34 mins into it but since it's so awesome, I can turn it back to the beginning." She offers as I scoff.

Watching a movie with her annoying ass? I don't even like movies. But it's either this or I go back upstairs, drowning myself in regret. As much as I'd love to be alone, not today.

I groaned giving up as I made my way to a cupboard where I had kept spare blankets.

People usually cover themselves with blankets while watching movies, right?.

Micah's eyes lit up as she saw me approach with the blankets but immediately dropped in disappointment as she saw me sit at a side of the sofa and only cover myself.

"What? Did you expect me to give you." I mocked as a chuckle escaped my lips.

" You should learn not to get your hopes up when with me. You're lucky I let you sit on the sofa not the rug."

Micah turned away from me rolling her eyes as she backwards the movie.

She mumbled something inaudible as the movie began from the beginning.

"What was that?" She twitched her lips and shook her head.

"Nothing"

I chewed my inner gum as my gaze never left her.

"You know what? I'm not feeling so generous anymore. Get down from the-"

" I don't need you to tell me I'm already getting off." She hissed and sat on the rug.

A few minutes passed.

"What's the name of the movie and what's it about?" I broke the silence as she sighed loudly.

"Extraction. It's basically a black market mercenary who is hired to rescue the kidnapped  son of a crime lord." She explained without any serious emotion and turned to me with a fake smile.

" Is that good enough?" She deadpanned.

"Not even close." I scoffed and continued to watch the movie.
