Blood.
The stench of blood filled the whole room, a room that was bare of any furniture except the chair a bloodied man was tied to and the chair his tormenter sat on.
Blood covered nearly every inch of the prisoner’s body, he was unrecognizable, and in a condition that was far too scary for a normal person. Even for people used to bloodshed, the sight was far from normal. His tears trickled down his cheeks along with blood as he screamed in pain. The man sitting in front of him was covered head to toe. He was wearing a loose black suit, a rather odd hat rested on his head, and his caramel blonde hair peeked out from the sides. Most of his face and neck were covered with a huge black cloth, though his sapphire blue eyes were definitely scaring him.
The man was far too relaxed, as if it was a daily job.
“Are you going to answer me or not?” the blue eyed man asked, his voice deep, but in an unusual manner.
“I- I won't tell you anything,” he spat, coughing out blood due to the trouble it took him to speak.
“Alright.” The blue eyed man got up and walked towards him. He grabbed a rusted knife and started cutting the wounded man’s hair. Using a knife to cut hair was unusual, for it was a torture method. Without any warning, he peeled off the front of the man’s scalp, causing him to let out a splitting scream.
“Did you or did you not make a deal with Alessandro Lorenzo?” the man in the loose suit asked again.
“Yes.”
“Were the higher ups of the Grasso mafia aware of this attack?”
“Y-yes.” As soon as the word left the man’s mouth, he was shot in the forehead. The man with caramel blonde hair removed his mask. He was not a man after all.
“Consigliere, will you tell me now why you always hide yourself in front of enemies?” Luca approached her after telling the other soldiers to dispose off the body.
“Because they believe that the Consigliere of the Lorenzo’s is a man, and I let them believe it.” Seung shrugged, as if it was the most obvious thing.
“Why?” Luca dared to ask another question.
“I’m not answerable to you for anything I do, Luca,” she said with the hint of a warning.
Without another word, the two went towards her car and Luca drove her to the mansion. It was clear as day now, Alessandro planned to kill his father so that he could overtake the Lorenzo mafia. And he made a member of the Grasso mafia be the attacker to clear any suspicions off his name. She wasn't letting that happen so easily. Ottavio had helped her in every way possible, and she was going to return every ounce of it.
Nodding at the salutes of the soldiers, she continued walking inside the mansion. She had a plan and it was going to be executed that day itself. She couldn't do anything to Alessandro, as desperately as she wanted to strangle and drown him in his own blood, she couldn't. She had promised Ottavio that she’d spare his son’s disgraceful acts.
But she could teach the Grasso mafia a lesson. A good lesson to not mess with the Lorenzos. She marched towards Felix’s room to discuss the plan with him. But the sight in front of her eyes was disgusting. She wanted to talk, not watch a live porn show with her fellow mafioso’s ass in the air. She closed her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose before clearing her throat.
“Felix, we’re attacking the Grassos,” she said while swallowing the second hand embarrassment.
“What, when, why?” Felix asked as he pulled the covers over himself and the girl. He wasn't embarrassed.
“We’re doing it today, nine p.m.”
“As a matter of fact, he’s doing me today,” the girl spoke up, in a voice that was far too exhausted. With the audacity she had, Seung wondered if Felix had got himself a girlfriend while she wasn't there.
“Well, make sure he’s done ya by nine. Six hours is definitely enough, ain't it?” Seung scrunched her nose in disgust and went out, closing the door behind her. Before the pair could continue, she barged in again.
“Oh and Felix, next time, make sure to close the door. It won't always be me,” she said while her eyes roamed everywhere except the guy. “It’d be a disgrace to die while being inside someone, eh?” Without waiting for a response, she slammed the door shut and walked away.
“Crazy, that woman.” Felix shook his head before throwing off the covers.
Seung was out in the garden of the mansion. There were still three hours left for Christopher to return. And six hours left for a huge bloody attack on their most pressing enemy. Six hours left till she was drenched in blood again.
At least it was the enemy's blood now.
There was a light tap on her shoulder. It didn't feel like a hand. Indeed, it wasn't a hand, but a mug of coffee. She turned around to see another Capo of the Lorenzos. Han Jisung. He was a friend too. But no one was as good a friend as Chris.
“What are you thinking about?” Han asked, forwarding the coffee mug to her. The flower stem in her hands joined the picked petals at her feet.
“We will attack the Grasso mafia in six hours, I'm planning how.” Seung was so casual in the way she said it that someone would really believe the conversation to be about shopping.
“Interesting, what role do I play?” Han was always on point with his questions, his attacks and his thoughts. He was the perfect person to fulfill the job she wanted.
“I want you to do something for me,” Eleanora said as she clinked her mug against Han's. She knew he'll not disappoint her.
“Anything, il mio consigliere.” (my consigliere) The fisted hand at his chest showed that he meant those words.
☘︎☯︎☘︎
Three hours had passed and Christopher was standing in front of her, her doppelganger was safe in the MW hotel of Messina.
“Chris, you don't know what all I witnessed while you were gone. I need you here to stay sane.” She joked and sat down on a chair in her room. Christopher mimicked her actions.
“Ella, what did you witness? And what are gonna go to the Grassos?” He was also concentrating on work. Everyone except Felix was. She will ensure that Felix has some extra work because of the traumatic sight he gave her.
“Well, Felix gave me a live porn show back in his room. I went to inform him about this mission, looks like he already has one.” She shrugged it off and picked up a pen that was lying on the table to spin it.
“Well, Gina is his girlfriend. She probably didn't care about you walking in,” he said while laughing as he imagined that scene.
“I see.” That wasn't the only thing she saw. The spinning of the pen abruptly stopped. She threw it on the ground and crushed it under her feet.
“What happened?” Christopher stood up to check up on her, examining her hands and face to see any injury, as if there was an invisible attack he couldn't save her from.
“This was a spy cam, not a pen. Pretty obvious because it was lying in my room out of nowhere.” She got up from her chair and scanned the room, with feet, hands and eyes, all her senses on alert.
“Chris, is Gina trustworthy? How did Felix meet her?” she asked, still checking the room for anything that could possibly be hidden in plain sight.
“She's Gina Bianchi, works in a local restaurant here. Felix met her there, and kept visiting that restaurant all the time. He must have fallen in love because he went there so often.”
“I want the restaurant’s name, the owner's name, Gina's whole information and everything she knows about us. Not now though, our focus for today is the Grasso mafia, their audacity has increased, so we'll show them their place.” There was an unsettled rage in her eyes, the thirst for revenge brimming up the surface.
“Everything will be done as you say. I'll give you all the information. When do we attack the Grassos?” Chris asked, his eyes observing the surroundings for anything suspicious. A spy cam was there in Eleonora's room, and they didn't know who planted it. They needed to be careful.
“It's seven right now, two hours left to leave our mansion. I had asked the soldiers to prepare arms. Han has already left for a special motive. We just need to attack their mansion, the rest will happen itself.” Seung smirked, and Chris knew something was up. But he also knew better than to ask her about secretive aims. She hated that.
“Hope Felix's current mission has finished by then.” The two laughed at that. But Chris knew one thing for sure : Eleonora suspected Gina of being a spy.
It was quarter past eight now. They had to leave the mansion on time. Any delay in their attack meant Han would be in danger, and she never planned missions where her allies were endangered.
“Felix, you motherfucker, come out!” Eleonora shouted from outside the door to his room. She had had enough.
“Coming!” A masculine moan sounded from inside.
“I swear if you don't arrive outside within five minutes, I'll finish your life before you finish,” Eleonora said in a warning. And before any answer could come, Christopher started banging on the door.
“Y'all are so impatient.” Felix opened the door and groaned, ruffling his hands through his hair. He was shirtless, but at least his ass wasn't on display like earlier.
“Brother, I gave you more than five hours to fuck this horny girl, and that's still impatient? Who does it for so long?” Eleonora glared at him like she would shoot him right then. But the anger was really on Gina, it was like she was trying to distract Felix from the mission.
“Well, yeah.” Chris punched the shirtless man so hard he almost stumbled.
“Now, get your clothes on, weapons on and follow us.” The consigliere's command had him working quickly. But she noticed how he stumbled a little while walking.
“I don't care if you can't walk properly. Your fault anyway.”
She didn't have time to care about Gina, but she had to. If Felix's new girlfriend really was a spy, their attack would be doomed. But Seung always had a plan.
“Luca,” she called out to her personal bodyguard.
"Sì, consigliere?” (Yes, consigliere?)
“I know you want to assist me on the mission, but I have an important task for you, one I can't trust anyone else with.” The glances they exchanged showed her that Luca was ready.
“Lock Gina in this room after Felix comes out. Keep an eye on her, she shouldn't escape.” She gave him a look that told him not to ask for the reason. “No matter what.”
The soldiers were ready, Christopher and Felix were ready. She had received Han's message too. It was time for revenge. The Grassos would pay for what they did to
Ottavio.
They had to drive all the way across Calabria to reach the Grasso mansion. It was opposite the side of the Lorenzo mansion. They couldn't get caught either, so the route was riskier. But nothing ever stopped the Lorenzos.
The cars stopped at a safe distance from the mansion. Now was the time to go over the plans once again. No room for mistakes, Eleonora hated them.
“Everyone, listen up!” she said in a slightly loud voice, but not enough to alert the guards of the Grassos. Every man's hand fisted over his chest, all listening to every word she spoke.
“The Grassos dared to attack our Godfather, and we are here for revenge. And our revenge will be their doom. We don't spare anything for them, we'll destroy their very existence. When the sun shines tomorrow, the Grasso mafia will cease to exist.”
Just like a perfect leader should, she always motivated her men before any missions. This mission in particular got a bit personal to her.
“Felix, you'll take Eduard and a group of our men and attack the mansion from the East. On the east, they have their emergency weaponry and you'll destroy it. Any soldiers of the Grassos that attack you must lay dead. Am I clear?” Her words registered in everyone's heads. They knew the plan already, this was just a final move on it. Felix, Eduard and the group of soldiers with them all bent on one knee, fists on the left side of their chest and head bowed down in the direction of Eleonora. She did a slight bow in return.
“Christopher, you'll take a larger group and attack their west. In the West, they have their main training area and arms supply. If possible, destroy their arms, if not, hold back the men and kill them.” Christopher and his group of soldiers did the same as Felix's.
“And all of you will follow me to the back of the mansion where we'll intrude their living space and enter inside. We have to make the least commotion possible. Our presence should only be known when the fight ensues with these two groups. Everyone clear?” The woman stood in the centre of them all. All the men bowed to her and were ready to follow every command she gave.
“Now, we attack.”
Those hundreds of men took their positions at the East, West and back of the mansion. They all knew when to start attacking so that every side was covered. Attacking from the front was stupid. The Grassos were also powerful, in their home, the Lorenzos could have ended up dead had they been stupid enough to attack the front. Eleonora was supposed to attack first. Since her attack was quiet, the Grassos won't be alerted. But as soon as Christopher and Felix would attack, war would ensue.
“Tony, we need to be as quiet as possible. We'll only kill a handful of men and replace them,” Eleonora whispered to the closest soldier as the group of fifty men followed her. There were about thirty guards upfront. Many would be hidden.
Tony nodded and passed on the message to the other men. The Lorenzos had no issues with arms. They had different types of guns, extra bullets, bombs, knives and even nunchucks. The only problem was attacking a strong enemy in their own territory. But everyone trusted Eleonora’s plan, and that made her determined to succeed.
She moved forward, steps as quiet as ever. The men followed. She shot the two guards that were standing a bit far from the others. Two of her men went to replace them quickly, no commotion caused. The Lorenzos then scattered around and shot the guards all at once. Before the guards inside could come out, they went to replace them. The clothes were no trouble as everyone had already worn the clothes of the Grasso members. And just like that, the back of the mansion was clear for them to
infiltrate.
Christopher was one hell of a leader. He had about four hundred and fifty men with him and destroyed the West of Grasso's mansion. He and his men killed every single person who stood against them, no matter the number. The main arms supply was burnt down and so, their enemy would have to resort to the emergency supply. Well, Felix was already there.
The emergency weaponry was being ‘guarded’ by Felix's men. A few hundred of the Lorenzos against countless Grassos. But the Lorenzos had two things the Grassos lacked : better and more weapons, and better trained men.
“You thought you could get away with trying to kill our Godfather?” Felix spewed with hatred as he fought against who he assumed to be one of Grasso's capos. The man did put up quite a fight, but Felix finally unarmed him of the gun he had and shot his head. Dead at once.
What looked like victory soon turned out of their favour. Felix didn't kill a capo, he killed the Underboss. Marcus Grasso, the son of Emilio Grasso, was dead. Oh, the war turned worse. All of a sudden, there were corpses of the Lorenzos behind Felix. He panicked, neither Christopher nor Eleonora would be aware of it yet. He lost many of his men and was obviously on the weaker side.
He still tried to put up a fight, but even the better weapons couldn't help him against what looked like twenty armed men. Felix was taken prisoner.
Forcefully walking inside the house of his enemy wasn't the best experience for him. The blonde tried to find a way put, but he knew that a wrong move could cost the lives of more men. Perhaps, Christopher and Eleonora backed out. It was better that he died alone than if all of them died. He was pushed on his knees on the floor in the living room. It was smaller than the one back at the Lorenzo mansion. In front of him, Emilio Grasso sat on a cushioned chair in rage.
“How dare you lowly Lorenzo kill my son!?” His voice was far from pleasant and his hands were worse when Felix felt them on his collar. He just snickered.
“Should have trained him better,” the prisoner said, his freckles more noticeable with his smirk.
“I'll kill you!” Emilio gripped Felix's neck and choked him. Felix pulled out the knife from inside his boot and stabbed
Emilio's abdomen. But before the Grassos could do anything else, every man in the room except the four capos and Emilio dropped dead. It took them some time to absorb the shock and that was enough for Felix to get to a safe distance.
“Good to see that old age hasn't drowned your rage, Emilio,” the only girl in the room said.
“Who are you?” Emilio asked, his brow raised in confusion. They had never ‘seen’ her before.
“The consigliere of the mafia whose boss you dared to attack.” Everyone's jaw dropped. Even the Lorenzos were shocked because that was the first time she ever revealed her identity.
“But you're a woman.”
“Obviously.”
Somehow, Felix was caught again by the five men since he was the closest. Emilio assumed that he was important since everyone came out of their hideouts for him. But Seung always had a plan. Always.
After all, she didn't send Han out way earlier than the others for nothing.
“I have your man here and you're smiling. Are you a psychopath?” Emilio spat, holding a knife at Felix's throat while two of them pointed their guns at him. Two capos had their guns pinned at Christopher and Eleonora, none of whom were bothered. Their backup was available now, the Grassos had regained some strength. They could put up a fight and probably win. They still outnumbered the Lorenzos.
“Maybe. Maybe not.” She laughed and stood there relaxed, as if there were no guns.
“I'll kill all of you for killing my son, for attacking us,” Emilio said in what he assumed was a threatening voice.
“Well, if I die here today, you'll never know where your wife and daughters are,” Eleonora said, taking a step forward.
“What?” His grip on the knife tightened, drawing blood from Felix's neck.
“One of our man's life sure isn't more important to you than your whole mafia and family.” She stepped in front of Emilio, snatching the knife that rested on the capo's neck. Her men had counter pointed their guns at the Grassos. It was an even fight. Well, not now.
“If you want to stay alive, and your mafia to see tomorrow, beg for an apology. Maybe then, I'll tell you your family’s whereabouts and spare your hideouts and weaponries,” Eleonora warned.
“What the fuck are you talking about?” Emilio cursed, pushing the knife more onto Felix's throat.
Eleonora brought up her phone and video called someone.
“Han, how're the other Grassos doing?” she asked and moved the screen towards Emilio. The mafia boss let out a gasp.
“You bitch!” He didn't find any other words to speak when he saw his wife and two daughters held hostage by the Lorenzos. But where they were was most important. Instead of the hideout, they were at a weaponry of the Grassos.
“You leave Felix alone, and I spare their lives and your mafia. Simple.”
The knife was no longer on his throat as Emilio backed out. The fear all over his face satisfied her. But there was
more.
“Now leave them.” Emilio's voice was hoarse, an edge away from crying. His wife always feared those weapons.
“Bow down to him first, and apologize for whatever you said.” She pointed at Felix. Though hesitant and humiliated, Emilio did as she commanded.
“Good boy.” She ruffled his hair, like one would do to their dog. The shame and rage on his face was pretty evident. He was about to get up when she pushed him down again, at her feet this time. “Rub your nose to the ground and apologize for attacking Godfather Ottavio. Only then will I spare the Grassos.”
Emilio's men were about to shoot her, when he signalled them not to. His honour wasn't as important as the mafia. He could avenge his humiliation later. After all, if he and his mafia were all dead, there would be no honour to avenge. So he rubbed his nose at the ground near her feet, repeating the word ‘sorry’.
“All of you, follow your boss,” she ordered the other Grassos in the room. None listened, but at Emilio's signal, they all did it. Her mission was half fulfilled now. She wasn't supposed to only kill them, she wanted to humiliate them to the point that they could no longer even call themselves mafiosos.
“I did whatever you asked of me, now spare my kids and wife. And our hideouts and weaponries.” Emilio's face was red, from anger or shame, none could tell.
“Ah well, okay.” She smirked at the call, and Han got her signal. He walked away from the Grassos he held hostage and out of the weaponry. And the next thing on the phone screen was a blast. Fire licked what was once the Grassos proudest weaponry.
“You liar!” Emilio lunged at her, but she kicked him in the chest. She ordered her men to kill every single Grasso remaining while she handled the boss.
“You shouldn't have trusted me.” She smiled before stabbing him in his abdomen, above the spot where Felix previously had. He was old too, so his agility was no match for hers. She stabbed him multiple times, not giving him any chance to get up until he was dead. To ensure victory, she shot him in the head twice. No chances of survival now.
Well, there won't be any for anyone. Just like every hideout, every weaponry that Han burnt, the Grasso's luxurious mansion would too.
“Don't waste time on them, oil's already on the walls, just light it up.” She ran out of the hall and through the corridors as her men followed her, along with the remaining Grassos. They had no for survival, but they still tried their best at a final chance for revenge.
After her men were out, she took the gold lighter out of her jacket's pocket and lit it, staring at the little flame that took no time to turn into a burning piece of land as she threw it at the mansion's gardens. The Grassos who had followed them were shot and thrown into the burning gardens. They all stood and watched as the last sign of the Grasso's existence turned to ashes.
“How many casualties?” she asked Christopher.
“I guess about five hundred. After Felix was caught, a lot of our men were killed.”
“There must be roughly double of this from Han's side. He did the most work.” She sighed, war never brought happiness to anyone, even the one who won.
“About fifteen hundred of ours lost to perish our enemy completely. When we get back, I want every single deceased person's name to be on the memoir. Without them, we were a lost cause.”
Everyone who heard her was moved. They didn't follow her word out of fear, it was out of respect. They did fear her, but it was because they knew everything she was capable of. The respect came from her giving everyone the same. They knew she didn't believe them as inferiors. And for such a leader, they could lay their lives on line like their lost allies.
“We did it, my brave comrades. The ones who tried to harm our Godfather no longer exist. There's no tomorrow for the Grassos!”
The flames were bright as ever, getting more fatal as everything turned to black and ash. The Lorenzos stared at it, their fists on the left sides of their chests, heads bowed towards their consigliere, the woman who avenged their Godfather.
