Chapter 3
In hindsight, what I did when I first saw him probably wasn't the best idea, but I guess it helping me to understand the situation I was in.
Without even thinking, I ran for the guy in front of me, ready to tackle him to the ground. People might think that was a stupid thing to do to a full grown man but, I was sure it would work. After all, I was pretty strong - I'd fought of more bullies than you could imagine at school. But as I ran to tackle my stalker, I passed right through him. I could only look in shock as my arms went to wrap around his torso but instead went right through him, causing me to fall face first on the ground. I couldn't even put my arms out in front of me before I was lying there, red blood trickling down from my nose. I sat there in shock for a second, unable to believe what had just happened. I'd heard stories about ghosts, but I'd never been one to believe them.
My mind seemed to turn in a hundred different ways every second, thinking of endless possibilities, ways to explain what was happening. But I couldn't think of anything - Not. One. Thing. The only thing that finally cut through my muddled thoughts was a soft chuckle behind me.
In a second I was up on my feet, facing my stalker once again. Now, I could see him quite clearly. He had striking blue eyes and messy black hair. He looked to be around his late twenties but then again, I'd never been good at judging peoples ages. All I knew was that I wanted to punch him in the face to get rid of that smug grin of his.
"Who are you?" I demanded. "And why have you been following me?"
He sighed, pointing to my arm back and ready to throw a punch. "I wouldn't do that if I were you, as you can see, it doesn't work very well."
I grinded my teeth against each other. This guy was really getting to me. "Than answer my question before I try!"
He rolled his eyes, obviously not taking me serious only being a 14-year-old. "I'm a hologram right now, okay? I'm not actually here but instead somewhere else doing this exact same stuff."
I frowned, "But . . . thats impossible."
"No its not, but thats not what we need to be talking about right now. And in answer to your questions, who I am is a very long story that I'll get into shortly and why I've been following you? Well, I guess thats also part of that long story - and its not for the reason your thinking, I'm not a creep like that."
I raised my eyebrow. "You sure? You seem pretty creepy to me - I mean, you are a hologram right now."
He groaned. "Look Macy, do you want to learn about your life or not? I know who your parents were, I know why they were killed. And most of all - I know why your different from everyone else and its not a bad thing either. You are who some people desperately want to be, who some people even kill to try and be like."
My brain slowly put the pieces together one by one. "So your saying that my parents were killed because of who they were - and someone was trying to be them from killing them? Wow, your really specific with what you say, aren't you?"
"Call me Orion," He told me. "And yeah, basically. But . . . There's a lot you don't know. There's a lot the entire world doesn't know."
I waited for a few seconds but he didn't say anything. "Well?" I asked. "You gonna continue? You gotta tell me after you say that - you can't just leave me hanging."
Orion sighed again. "Well, if I do tell you, you have to promise to me now that you won't tell anyone else about this, no matter how important you think it is. Trust me - NO ONE is allowed to know."
I hesitated, not sure if I wanted to go on with this. If I kept a secret, would that be the wrong thing to do? Especially since no one knew about it. Maybe if people did know, it would change our lives for the better? How was I to know that I would be doing the right thing?
"Do you promise?" Orion promised.
And in that moment I knew I had to. I needed to know more about my parents, more about why they were killed. And if this was the only way, then so be it.
"I promise."
